The High-Jinx Log: Celebrations of My Reincarnations

Can I just slap some bands and kettlebells on a straight bar?

I don't see why not. Or get a piece of 1"-1.5" schedule 40 PVC. I originally dangled plates off of chains on a straight bar. That was pretty hard, but the wobbly bar makes it much harder.

Five years ago, I had bilateral labral repairs and bilateral clavicular excision........I can't imagine the RC repair will take nearly as long to recover

Those are commonly referred to as Mumford procedures - I've had them on both sides as well. They are really pretty benign procedures - they only take off about a 1/4 inch of the clavicle and the ligaments attached to it. It's basically a room making procedure for the infra tendon to slide under the acromion a little easier. I've never had any problems w mine.

As for the RC repair, you're correct they don't take long to heal - not nearly as much as a labral repair. I was turned loose to train ~4 months post surgery...

Thanks for sharing insights, bud. And correct re open mumfords (i believe that procedure can also be done arthro, and I've found many people are not familiar with that vernacular, fwiw) though I had full SLAP repairs, along with RC debridement with mine. My shoulders were badly separated from repeated dislocations, many from my earlier years as a high school wrestler. This resolved my intractable bilateral shoulder impingement. My elbow surgeries (the medial epicondylectomies) last year were far harder to recover from than my shoulder surgeries.

Yeah they can do them w a scope, the one I had on the left was scoped. The right was open...
Yeah, i edited my post, to thank you and shed light on that as well. When done arthro, I think it's just called distal clavicular excision, as it's not a mini-open procedure. It actually results in a faux A/C joint. So pleased I had that procedure.

This site update is really buggy! Having a hard time completing posts. Or maybe it's unique to my iPad.

The bamboo bar benching was really tough on the stabilizers. Not painful, but damn does it work them. Louie Simmons was saying the only way he can do upright rows without pain was using the bamboo bar. It could possibly accelerate the rehabilitation process, if you start very light and work your way up. This is me with about 130lbs:

So as you can see, it's challenging.
Ouch, dude. You gotta work on that, lol. I wonder how you'd do now. That might have been from being unaccustomed to benching raw (right? I believe you were benching in gear before that?)

Definitely could have been it, I hadn't even thought of that reason. I just thought it was really hard. I've wanted to use it when I've been to the gym these past few weeks, but I just haven't.

I also think Lamonster gave me the highest damn handoff possible because he wanted to see me wiggle.

A high handoff when I was testing my 1rep max is what messed my labrum in the first place =\ ****ing people.
The weight just bounced when my P/L coach let go.

Handoff, yeah, sure.

Where did you guys pick up this euphemism? ;)

Liftoff is already taken by NASA :P haha

Yeah, and happy ending (TM) was taken by them damn Orientals. ;) (Note: I have a rug, as well as an Asian missus, so I can say this.)

Good one, GP.

3 days off, partly bc of shoulder issues, partly bc of press of business.

Weight: 161 lbs. I don't know how I dropped this low, but that's what the scale read this morning. Down around 14 lbs in 3 months.

And the abs are popping. I don't have the conventional six pack, as my abs are not entirely symmetrical, and they are quite protrusive.

Yesterday at my physical, my doc kept on asking, "so when's the last time you lifted?," after I told him I've lost a bunch of weight over last 12 weeks or so. And then he checked my gut and was like, "Holy shyte. Hypertrophic abs," lol.

A small concession seeing as how he had just poked my prostate. My right testicle hurt until late last night. How that can be pleasurable for anyone, I have no idea. Anyhow, he said it felt good, lol -- no polyps, enlargement, or some kind of slope or something (that is a bad sign).

Here they are, in my dirty bathroom mirror, lol:

I dunno know if I am looking to destroy them given the current state of jinx nation, but I will check it out. Thanks bubba.Looking forward to putting a couple wheels on the bar for squats. I didn't have one bit of DOMS, or even any meaningful ache, after my last sesh, which bodes well for this next go around. Would like to be doing 225 for sets of 20, a short-term goal, which I think is realistic. Thanks boss.

Sushi! I'm a little jealous.
Taking off now. The missus tapped out, so it's just me and my buddy. This place has the.best.escolar.ever. Yummy, buttery poops on the way ... I will be thinking about herderdude as I expel.

We have the same phone I think, but your's is so much better than mine...
Smoker giving you grammar lessons again, boy?

The next time I actually throw down a log, I'm going to throw a USFL touchdown dance party in the bathroom, I don't care if I'm home, Columbus, halfway, whatever.

Return of the Sqwatz, Part Deux:

Squats
45 x 10
95 x 8
135 x 8
185 x 8
205 x 8
225 x 6 (blowing out a little rust here, but not bad, a lil more)
245 x 4
225 x 6
Notes: Felt pretty good. No recovery issues from first squat day, one week ago, as I usually confront after significant squat hiatus. Plan is to keep lighter and go for higher reps at 225 lbs or so. But first I will build back some foundational strength, with reps as low as doubles and triples in the coming weeks.

Calf Sled
+180 x (20, 18, 15)

Kneeling Cable Pulleys
3 x 15

Nice squat session brother! Looks like your weight is coming up quick. Very nice.

I'm liking this squatting version of Jinxie

Yeah, damn peer pressure and all that. Soon enough I will be be competing in masters tournaments, in the fly weight division, lol.

I am down to 161 lbs. Really not sure how this happened, that is that I keep on losing weight at this rate, without doing much of anything other than eating clean and moderate portions. In any event, it doesn't seem to be doing much to my strength. Then again, I haven't been doing conventional bench pressing and haven't been able to press at all. Anyhow, I just got blood work, and all looks good, so I don't think i am going to die just yet, from all the whoring or otherwise.

Thanks guys!

With your clean eating and portion moderation, do you know what the caloric difference is in your daily consumption? I ask because I would assume that that is the major contributing factor in your recent loss of weight. It's quite possible that you need to fill in the gaps that are left when dropping certain foods.

Good point, and something I've considered. I would say between cleaner bfast and lunch, I've dropped about 400 calories per day, and 200-400 from more measured late night grazing. So that's substantial (enough for .2-.25 lbs of weight loss per day), but I've lost around 14 lbs in 12 weeks, and the weight has continued to drop at a similar pace. Usually, when I am cutting, I hit walls that take awhile to break through, regardless of caloric deficit. Naturally, the metabolism acclimates and slows down, to some extent. That hasn't really been the case this time, so it seems.

In any event, I am not complaining. While I have found that my strength suffers from this sort of weight loss, the benefits (most notably, less pain and ulnar nerve impairment) are such that I don't give a rat's ass. That is, until I do again, lol. But seriously, I plan to stay between current weight and 168 lbs for foreseeable future.

Could you draw me a map for where you left those 14 pounds? I may need some more insulation for the winter.

Rub your legs together. That should strike up a fire.

Leave my fat alone.

Been inundated with work. And then there is the pain of holiday shopping and a torn rotator cuff. Haven't been to the gym since Monday. Hope to get there today or tomorrow. First I need to see the doctor though, at least before working upper body.

I got the MRI film and report re left shoulder this morning. Film shows significant partial tears of the left supraspinatus, at undersurface and interstitial. Almost positive it will require surgery. Plus it hurts like hell. I also have a SLAP lesion and some labral fraying, and some stuff is going on with my biceps, but it's hard to figure out bc I have had multiple tenodesis procedures. Long story short, this looks a lot more complicated than I expected. I am astonished that I have been able to accomplish what I have at the gym the last 3 months. Tougher than I thought, perhaps. Nah, still a pu$$y, but one who squats (light) again, at least, lol.

Hoping doctor will fit me in today, to review film with me, and give me some trigger point injections.

Happy holidays to all.

Damn that sucks dude, sorry to hear. I hope you have as fast of a recovery as you can

Thanks ma man. Of course it's much easier to handle given all my previous surgery experience as well as bc I don't compete. Just a minor setback in the grand scheme of things.

Plus surgery and PT always makes me hungrier! New people for an over-the-hill man to impress, lol.

Get yourself a Buffalo or Safety Squat bar so you can still squat!

Good idea. Only thing is I can't store shyte at my gym. Maybe i will look for another gym that has this, and join on a month to month basis while I am rehabbing. I definitely will be pumping up the jam on the legs. I will try to make you and Toro proud. ;)

Happy holidays Jinxie! Down but not out.

Likewise GoKix. Definitely not even close to being out. :)

Still fervently awaiting my treasure map. ;)

sounds similar to my third on the right, odds of a good comeback are high.

good luck...

Thanks man. Given what I can do with it right now, injured, I am optimistic.

Yeah, for me, this will be third on the left, not including the 2 biceps tenodesis on that side, or the 3 on the elbow, lol.

Determined, we are.

If you can imagine it, it's paved in yellow bricks and crossed barbells mark the spot.

LOL, such a tease. ;) I have a creative and vivid imagination, lol. With bricks and barbells and a rack(s), I could construct something quite divine.
