Slicin' and Dicin'

Dog walk was shorter today simply cause I was exhausted and hit snooze . Thursdays for the past decade+ have always seemed like the hardest day of the week, far harder for some reason than a Friday afternoon in the gym.

But I knew Lzzy would be out there waiting. Sure enough I open the slider to the back door to let her and Ax go outside at 4:45 this morning. He runs out to piss, she runs to the front door and sits hopefully that I'll take her for a walk. This is a great routine because now I feel obligated to give her that time. So it's win/win for us both.

Notes
Idk if it's the cut, because it doesn't feel that extreme, but lately just been exhausted / burnout a bit. I think it's more a combo of work / life balance etc. I knew I'd go in today and get my session in but on my way I pounded my pump addict preWO and I had poured leftover pineapple juice in it from a can of pineapples I had earlier. Between Black Label coming on as I pulled into the gym and the sugar hitting I suddenly was ready to tear $hit up.

Maybe that's a sign that this sugar diet isn't maintaining levels well enough for me. Next week I'm thinking of switching up to a more balanced plan, going old school with my daily salad prep etc. I'm still leaning up but the wear and tear on my energy level and extreme famine by dinner time is not balanced enough.

man I was a bipolar shitshow yesterday. went hard, wrapped up the cardio then suddenly out of nowhere the spicegirls popped into my play list in my car on the way home. the sun was shining and I couldn't help but start laughing so I just blasted that ****, and the Tiffany song that came on afterwards 😂 😂

we got our first real good rain last night in many months. first time I've seen puddles probably since april or may. My wife rallied last night and in a very unusual for us moment we went out for Mexican at <gasp> 7pm! The TV never turned on, we sat in the living room talking work and politics, watching the fish, then headed on a date, then came back, fed the dogs and off to bed. I like TV, I really enjoy good shows and good writing, I don't feel bad about watching TV when I can at all, especially good cinema and I'm even finding a desire to go to the movie theaters again (just hard to find good movies) but nights like last night where you have a fullfilling evening, the TV never comes on, and you end up the right amount of tired at the right time to get 7-8hrs of sleep are just life bonuses.

but despite that I woke up a little late so the pup and I only walked about 1500 steps this morning so I could get back to the house in time to towel her off and jump in the shower for work. I dont' think rainy walks are going to be an issue for she and I since she's so damn small, even for a cattle dog she's only about 25lbs now and I don't see her getting a lot lot larger.

Sounds like a pretty smart pup. Going to school, and already knows how to go to the door for a walk….that’s cool though, my wife is a Dog Trainer and it sounds like you are doing it right. Steady walks and training makes for a happy dog and owners.😎👍

Notes
Sorta took today easy, my boy wanted to squat so after I benched I watched / helped him, he took squats to sets at 315 in between me hitting incline DB.

He hasn't really lifted much this summer (typical 16yr old) and he was telling me he wants to get back into a solid routine so he can hit the ground running. Iots of distractions when you're 16 and I'll only "force" things so much, because at some point he needs to earn it himself. I can warn him of the perils of letting opportunity pass him by but you also have to live and learn.

Today's session was good for him cause he held on a bit, benched 225, squats were fire, but both were lower than he expected and his eyes were opened up a bit. He admitted to his laziness

I think the walks have been good for she and I both, getting in a good 3k+ steps before we start the day, especially with her being a heeler/border collie mix that extra exercise is probably more important for her than most dogs I've had. My previous cattle dog was not a morning girl, she did not like to be bothered early in the morning, lol. This one either hears me get up to pee, or she hears the coffee maker going off on its timer, and she's ready to go, lol.

We did puppy school in the spring, went ahead and went straight into the next class "teen manners" and I've been talking to the instructor about getting her into some beginning agility next. I really wanted to do agility with my last cattle dog and we toyed with it a bit before she died so I'm hoping to hit the ground running and dive right into with this pup.

Oh yeah, any herding or cattle dog needs plenty of exercise, and stimulation for their brain, because they are so smart and want to work and please you. Agility would be perfect for her, and it’s actually fun getting out there with your dog and actually competing in an athletic event. But even if you didn’t enter her in anything, the agility course gets really fun when your dog starts to get good, and it’s great stimulating exercise for her, and decent cardio for you after you’ve run around the agility course for an hour. Oh, and I don’t know if your trainer teaches frisbee catching, but that is a blast in an open field. I actually throw the frisbee with my 120 lbs female Akita, and it’s really crazy how high that big dog can jump to catch a frisbee.😎👍

Wife and I were talking about stuff and I told her my gym routine so far today. She said "far more motivated than I am!". it was very complimentary, but I don't feel like that's what this is. It's 99% discipline. I'm honestly not certain what drives me.

I know if I were to win the lottery all the sudden and retire young I'd still be hitting the gym normal like I do now, but I'd sleep in, have a good breakfast, meander down and gym rat and enjoy it. whatever I'm doing now is burning the candle at both ends and I'm not really sure what the drive is. of course I want to lean up, but I'm not planning to compete. I'm not exactly chasing any PRs at the moment.

the gym has become such a part of my life that when my wife and I go out I often have no idea what to wear because I only really have gym clothes and office work clothes. so its like a pair of jeans plus the best smelling gym shirt? LOL
You have a passion for chasing goals my boy! Right now you have a goal of leaning down closer to your previous level to be able to understand what you have truly built. I honestly think it is this curiousity, and no knowing how much you have actually built that is motivating this. That, and lets be honest aesthetics are just as good of a reason to do what we do as strength is.

Yeah, if I won the lottery I would still lift, but would be able to tailor my life around recovery, and good healthy foods. I would definitely have someone cooking my meals for me.
Interesting thought on body dysmorphia, which isn't something I give much thought to because generally speaking I'm overly confident to the point of arrogance in many aspects of life. I know my short comings and they don't bother me because I live under a state of mind that if the juice is worth the squeeze, there's nothing I can't do.

But I see this guy in the gym who looks bigger than me and I had a moment of humility. Sometimes you realize that no matter what you do for how long, there is always going to be someone bigger, stronger, faster. but you go anyways.

later in the session we were both on cable machines next to each other and I saw us side by side in the mirror and realized I was bigger than him. 😂 😂

it took me two days to realize that everyone looks bigger than me, to me. I'm like chronically 9 years old lol. Is that dysmorphia? 😂😂
Yeah, I used to ask the wife, am I as big as that guy, or something and she would look at me like I am insane. Then be like you outweigh that guy by 20lbs! Its like right now I see myself as small. Somewhere in the 200-205 range, visible abs when flexed, and 5'7 and a tiny bit of change. I remember when this was the goal, and now it is the man I have gotten a lot smaller area. However, recently I have been able to notice a little more, or just know on a deeper level that I am just a big muscular dude for being 5'7. Just yesterday after not lifting all week, and eating poorly I saw my arms and shoulders in a mirror on the way home and was like, Dayum! I 've still got it! Those moments where you catch a genuine glimpse of what others see when they look at you are amazing. However for the most part, I see myself every day, and I don't look that big to me.

So our GSD is a big doofus, but he's finally getting to where he can run down and catch the frisbee when I chuck it as far as I can. what I used to do is launch a tennis ball as far as possible, Roxy would run it down and do some acrobatic trick to catch it in mid air, while I'm throwing the frisbee the other way and Ax would run that down. after about 10 throws they both start showing some tiredness so I'd usually aim for 5-10 more to make sure they were good and worn out.

Lzzy is starting to get it. she can't quite catch the ball in the air yet, but she's getting competitive and starting to out run 'big brother' rather than letting him beat her to the toy... its actually a lot of fun for me to go out there and be able to just chuck frisbees and tennis balls as far as I can and let the dogs run them down, its sorta like playing catch but nobody is throwing it back at me, lol.

its so true 😂
I did catch my abs in the reflection of my car today because I hit the driving range at lunch. I have a little boys golf trip coming up (my first ever, I have reservations about it) so I figured I'd start getting practice in, but man I was a sweaty mess. changing back into my work shirt in the parking lot I was like well, I can see my abs but they look a bit plumpy and soft still lol. I almost got into a fight with my wife a few months ago when I was thinking of not going to a work thing she had, some low key bbq after hours and she said "well I wanted to show off my big buff husband". I thought for sure she was making fun of me but as it turned out she actually meant it I think, lol 😂😂

she's really quiet when it comes to communicating the things I need to hear. ("need". not really, I have a big enough head, but she's the only person I need to hear them from if I need to hear it at all). She told me one time last winter that her friend and her both decided on their own that words of affirmation are something theyre both really bad at. so I'm picking up on my wife's hints a little better knowing that those are a big step for her. like when she calls me muscles. of course, dad did that to get me to do chores at the Church when I was a kid "hey muscles, we need your help", haha. But when a couple we knew from the club saw us at dinner one night the gal comes over and poked my triceps through my hoodie and says what on earth is this?! what kinda steroids are you on?! lol. I know those little moments actually make my wife more proud than jealous in those situations.

Notes
Actually planned on throwing down a better lower/squats day today but somewhere between getting dressed in the dark and work I tore a monster hole in my boxer briefs and the idea of squatting with while free balling just was unnerving. Since bringing squats back I've been going through box briefs like crazy lol, I think I must have put some size on in the glutes and hammies. I mean I was like how big a hole did I tear, bend over and yup, hanging brain all day in my slacks.

Thank God I didn't $hit myself.

Contemplated back day instead but figured aesthetically I want bigger arms, so why not?

Plus a little supplement chest cause my left pec seems bigger than my right

Oh yeah after two weeks of the fruit experiment I went back to my old school nutrition today.

Breakfast
Rice and meat (ground beef at the moment

Snack
Fruit (apple today)

Lunch
Clean salad, salsa for dressing and chicken for meat.

Dinner is not yet determined but my appetite is FAR more reasonable today. My mood, energy, and MENTAL CLARITY are 10x better and the gym pump was awesome.

Yeah, my wife is not a big affirmations person. She has gotten better at it when I told her I need that from her. We all need to know our significant others desire us and find us attractive. Also, yes, you need that from her. Like you said, she is the only one it really matters from. It is nice from others but it doesn't have the intimacy attached to it like when it comes from the person you love the most! Now my wife will say little things here and there, it is a lot more often than it used to be, but still not a lot if that makes sense. However, hands down it means the most to me from her.

Forgot to set my alarm correctly and woke up a half hr behind schedule so I grabbed the pup and took her for a very short walk to get it in. I'm not sure she knows the difference as long as she gets that routine.

I'll make up the extra cardio tonight before dinner to make sure I grab my 10k+ though.

Evening session

Next week I'm traveling Sunday - Thurs morning for a first ever guys golf trip. (I skip every year to hang with the wife but we have no plans this year so I'm committed).

I'm planning to meal prep chicken, diced and in a plastic bag because I know bags will fit in a hotel fridge, Tupperware less sure.

I know diet will be off no matter what but this will help minimize backtracking. I'm brainstorming carb ideas since a bag of rice doesn't sound great. Ideally things that don't need a fridge. Right now I'm thinking..... Fruit. Lol

Nice! Enjoy the golf trip. That's a good amount of time for some active rest and relaxation (or debauchery if you so choose!).

thanks man, been doing some research and I think the hotel/casino has a small gym that I'll plan to take advantage of a couple times to maintain some consistency, I think I'm developing an OK plan that will help me from going too far off track while still letting the hair down a little bit... This might be a good fit for the sugar diet approach I'm thinking because we have 7am tee times each day so I could easily pack fruit for that, then lunch with the guys, then my pre-packed protein dinners etc.

If you will have a nuker in the room which most places do or you can request one from the front office you could get some veetee rice packets. Takes away the need for a fridge. Also super simple is dehydrated fruits, and some saltines baby! Nice and low fat but give you some salt for your time outside in the heat.

the rice is a great idea but I just double checked and it looks like I do have luxurious robes and a fridge but no microwave, lol

Call the hotel and ask them to put one in your room. I give it about 90% chance they have one, and don't even charge you for it. All I have ever had to do is call them and ask, I tell them my diet leaves me with the need to use a microwave daily and tada, there is one in the room when I get there.

thats a great idea! I just called and asked and she said no. lol.
I think its cause its a casino/resort so they definitely want you dining and gambling. I'd probably never really stay there on my own accord but my buddy who organized the trip got us a huge group deal (16 of us going) so the rooms and golf are an assounding 50% off. we are playing 8 total games (which in itself is insane) for the price of ONE GAME at Chambers and probably 3 games at our normal local courses...

Honestly, for the convenience, by a cheap azz one for the room for everyone and throw it away when you leave.

LOL you're not wrong! if I was in competition prep I might do that. I'm already thinking about what I'll look like wheelin in there with a carry on, gym bag, and rtic cooler through the casino lol

Like a stud! Honestly though, I think the saltines are a good option if you are going to be out in the heat, nice source of carbs and sodium. Easy to count out a serving. Super flexible option, you can add meat, cheese, peanut butter, hummus, whatever you want to them and you are good to go. Even make little tuna salad to dip into with the crackers if you want. Plus they are good all by themselves and you can't get a whole lot more convenient.

thats another great idea. years ago my wife snagged one of those soft rtic coolers at like 60% off cause it wasn't an appealing color apparently (LOL) so I'll likely take that, but it's a hair too big to toss in the back of a golf cart so I might take the small ice pack and one of those foldable less good coolers for something like the tuna dip like you said since I'll likely eat it before it goes bad and gives me the rocket shits. these are all solid ideas, great way to keep me closer to behaving and gonna save some money! I think thats probably the biggest thing about this trip, I'm grateful to have a little pto and the big discounts to get some golf in with the guys but normally if I'm getting a hotel and time off from work I'd rather be spending that dosh on my wife and hanging with her!

Have microwave, will travel.💪😜

wife just asked me what sounded good for dinner tonight, I laughed and said burger with tots (after complaining about diet cheats). Then I said or steak and potatoes and laughed cause I realized how drastically different those two meals come across from a health perspective despite both being rooted in red meat and potatoes!

Luckily I married a meat and potatoes kinda gal ;)

Diet clean today. Weight edging back down at 192 this morning. Carbs were cut back some. Tempted to switch it up nearly a 100% carb breakfast tomorrow instead. Def see a huge difference adding/removing carbs.

No preWO or anything today. No wraps, chalk etc just raw dogged it cause I went in for cardio but then got a hankering for gun work.

Casinos up in your part have that stupid 000 on roulette?

woke up a bit late again so the dog walk was short, but the view was pretty awesome.

Looking good…..you’ve definitely put on some more muscle.💪😎👍
thanks Sir! seemed more impressive at the time but It was hard to actually flex (that was sorta unflexed, just in position) while zooming in and trying to snap a pic before someone walks by hanging brain. last night my wife had her hand on my arm and she goes stop flexing... I was like, I'm not. lol
Casinos up in your part have that stupid 000 on roulette?

Its been a while since I've seen a roulette table but I think so. usually if I am in a casino I'm looking for a poker room and I think nearly all the casinos closed theirs during covid, never to return. so the only poker out here is at stand alone poker halls now mostly.

supposedly there is poker at this place we are headed to but their website said only thurs-sunday and my schedule is sunday-thursday, lol.

Looking good my man! You have great arms and shoulders! I can see by the shape and thickness you have a better peak than you think. I bet I could work with you for 5 minutes on a couple ways to display those bad boys.

One thing I will say though, your body dysmorphia is showing. Like it is just hanging out like someone just opened a trench coat...

Those aren't boys toys... Those are Fucking Guns Sir!!! Show them the respect they deserve!

Ummmm wut???? When did this happen??? Steroids!!!!
Looking swole bruh
ahaha IDK dude, some guys in the locker room were taking their vaccines and putting lotion on the dry skin so I asked if I could get some and then all the sudden PRs!

LOL thanks man, appreciated. they looked a lot more impressive on the tiny phone screen at the time 😂 😂

Here's my touch of the 'tism. I ordered a pack of boxer briefs like 3 or 4 years ago to "test". I liked them so I threw everything else out and started ordering those in 5 packs from amazon so all my under garments match. (I get the same white under shirts, the same gym socks, dress socks, and boxer briefs, lol). I had a pack come in yesterday and today, holy $hit now I know why I'm ripping holes in them. these glutes and upper legs do NOT fit anymore. going to have to move up a size. I'd be concerned if my waist hadn't cut down an inch.

for perspective at 207lbs I wore the same boxer briefs and had my lifting belt on the last hole. hole #1.
now at 192 lbs my ass is too big for my underwear but I have the lifting belt down to the hole #3 lol

so there is some progress in there but I'd sure love to cut about 5% BF from here. I'm OK with it being slow as long as I don't go backwards.

thanks dude, to be honest I really really think that they've seen progress again both in the 1 month period since working on more suppinated work and then also believe it or not, I know this sounds silly, but I think I've seen progress this week hitting them on the daily for just a few sets.

For real, those of us who've been following along for a while now in your log - your arms have definitely grown pretty significantly. Looking really thick, and this is you on the downswing cutting! Nice work.

Notes
Figured I'd try to mix up a little legs and back today since I'm not sure what the next week of lifting opportunities look like at the moment.

I blame the misses on shoes, I didn't have my lifters today and my sauconys are really wrong for this but I was feelin' cute. They stuck to the platform bad.

Nice quick workout …..some good athletic movements in there. Makes sense back and legs….they probably have a gym, but if not you could always do some pushups and body weight stuff just to keep things moving.

Nice little session there, looks fun.

I spent the first couple days loathing a long trip away from the wife, a trip I obviously was not forced into, I just felt a level of obligation to join my buddies after turning them down 3 years in a row. I was so disconnected from the world and so "in the moment" I took only one picture the entire 5 days.

Sunday - 14,000+ steps (1 game)
Monday - 18,000+ steps
Tuesday - 19,000+ steps
Wednesday - 20,000+ steps
Thursday - 14,000+ steps (1 game)

On weds I intentionally did a little extra walking before and after to see if I could break that 20k. each day I packed my portioned chicken, bananas, apple, cheese sticks, sugar free red bulls, and dried pineapple. Never really got super hungry but enjoyed a brat at the turn one day, a philly cheesesteak for dinner one night (really a poor philly for being a nice restaurant), and a burrito weds night. I meant to shower, watch the hobbit a bit in my hotel room, eat a little food then go back down and join the guys but ended up sleeping nearly 12 hours lol.

Had a limited amount of alcohol the whole trip. mostly an occasional sugar free redbull + vodka while on the course, but did not end the night getting three sheets with the guys. each morning there was a story of 2 or 3 more guys that spent the night puking all over their hotel room, lol. I was happy to not be one of them. The THC use was gratuitous and the vibe was 100% millennial golfer bro degen. I thought I hated it. Got back to work on Friday and realized how healthy those 5 days were for me, especially with my self control on the "substances" so at no point was I over indulging, sick, taking on extra calories, etc. Instead I was disconnected from the chaos of the world, getting a lot of exercise, green space, fresh air many hours away from the toxicity of Seattle, enjoying the competition of sport and shockingly enough, the fellowship of other guys. Did not think I would enjoy it so much without my wife but it was good! Being back at work Friday has made me realize how much healthier those days were. maybe not for some of the other guys though, LOL 😂

Weighed in 2lbs lighter when I got home at 191lbs.

I'm pretty sure if I had consumed that much beer and burgers and dogs and brats as the other guys I would have weighed in +10lbs or more, haha.

Took all my supplements at a 1/2 dose for the week mostly because I took them every morning before I left the hotel room and forgot to take them again most nights. I guess to be expected but constantly got comments "wow you don't need to go to the gym today I guess!", "I could hit it that far if I had biceps like that, too" lol. funny thing about golf, the less I try the longer I hit the ball. Try harder = no bueno.

Sounds like you had a blast…..no wonder you came home lighter, you got in some serious walking.👍

You had me at THC and golf 🤣
Glad it was a good reset for you and a testament to your own willpower!
a number of the guys were trying to shift away from alcohol so instead opted for the 100mg cans of soda + pre rolls and vapes and I think realized that moderation is still key 😂 😂
