OHP is climbing nicely! That deadbug 2 board pause at 365 is nuts man 💪🏻

Right? Like wth, man!

And 4sets of 5 on the 365 lbs Deadbug bench at that…..crazy impressive.💪

especially for being so old now

Thanks fellas! Except for Dustin, he sucks 🤣

OHP and bench have shown very solid linear gains the past 6 months and I am most excited for what’s to come! Plan is to take 200kg for a bench double on Saturday 😈

everytime I see dudes in other groups say things like "well I'm 36 now so I'm fightin old man time" or "I'm almost 40 so I can't do this or that" I'm like......er, half the men I know who are stronger than me are 10 years older than me. catch me outside.

It’s pretty rough out there in the world man. Just observing the obesity problem is surreal. It’s not accepted anymore, it’s expected.
Man most people our age group just drink themselves to death anyways and live in the past.
I don’t care what you supposedly benched in high school, what are you doing now????
Excuses.

last night driving home I saw a big sign at walgreens advertising their covid vaccines and I had a long loud conversation with myself. more me ranting loudly to me, then me agreeing and firing me up more. About how these people will pound $hit food, grab an ozempic, then go inject themselves with some questionable vaccine in the name of "health" and do absolutely nothing physically. I had friends who got the stomach bypass surgery and then talked about how a small bag of cheetos was enough to fill them up, but you would never see them in the gym, but there they are lined up for their semaglutides and vaccines. they don't meal prep, haven't seen an apple in a decade outside of a pie, drink like fish until 1am, and then complain about how its age that's causing them issues.

I just do not accept that we as humans have maxed out our potential to create healthier bodies.

I hate the bill boards popping up all over town about those weight loss drugs. I don't care if individuals use it but its the mentality most people that want to use it have, and also, the way its marketed that irks me.

I'm quite a bit younger but its the same way. In fact, I think each new generation is just going to get worse and worse. Its very, very sad to see. Plus you've got so many kids and teens now who just DON'T know how to communicate anymore.

This is why I've always really loved Socrates viewpoints on the pursuit of Physical Excellence. When you train the body, the mind usually follows close behind.

I think what the drugs can do for people to help lean down is terrific. Our society is so busted, so enormously unhealthy, that many people have truly broken hunger/craving responses - so getting them leaner by any means is largely ideal for their overall health.

I am however worried about the potential for longterm health impacts. I’ve heard some frightening side effects and alleged increases in other disorders from them, way beyond some bubblegut. And they are advertised so ruthlessly, I do worry about all the folks who could end up suffering from trying to improve their health.

Layne was being questioned on artificial sweeteners and he said something along the lines of "look, if you're 100lbs over weight or whatever I already know you might be dead in 5 years. if I can move you to artificial sweeteners and put out the immediate fire since I don't know if artificial sweeteners will kill you in 40 years but I know your obesity is killing you now, then I'm going to do that.

I thought that was a pretty logical and reasonable mindset. baby steps.

Killing it in here!!! I second all of the worries with things like Ozempic, I have definitely considered getting some for my daughter from an Research company, but seeing some of the sides that are concerning makes me worry more about what might happen down the road. She is actually making more of an effort now, trying to drop weight on her own. She is down from 255 to 239 in the last 6-8 weeks using a loosely planned nutrition program I set up for her without any actual workouts. When she is ready to do some training or cardio I will be happy to add that in for her. I had to make it as easy and convenient as possible and she is making good progress now. I wuld rather her learn how to get down to a more healthy weight, than just get down to it by not ever being hungry. She won't learn discipline then and would be very likely to gain everything back. Now if she just kept being unable to do it, at some point I might suggest something like that but I think maturity is kicking in and she is in a place she can do this now as long as not overly restrictive, and she gets to have some occasional leniency so she doesn't feel like she will never be able to eat for enjoyment. That is the hardest part for a lot of dieters.

My younger cousin was given metformin for her pre-diabetes and to curb some appetite, which did help her and I advised her to stay with it because of the glucose management she needs. But the thing that has really helped her the most is being smarter about what she eats and ESPECIALLY backing off all the drinking. She loves to drink like a fish and it has made her so fat. And she also eats garbage when she’s up late partying, which is more nights than not.

So to mirror your concerns, the biggest thing for her has been to first just try to reign her lifestyle choices in, and that’s been very empowering for her. She isn’t perfect with it but she’s understanding now you can’t medicate yourself out of being unhealthy as long as you continually make unhealthy choices. There still has to be positive change for success.

Saw a guy at our gym doing deadbug bench with 225 for 10 reps on his last set, and I ran over to spot him because it didn’t look like he would get the last couple. He is one of the offensive linemen on the local college football team, and said their strength coach taught them to him a few weeks ago. He’s the only person I’ve seen do them live. When I told him how much you rep them at, it blowed his mind. He said he won’t go over 285 and wouldn’t even dare try 315. And this kid is about 6’ 5” and says he weighs 295.
Dude after seeing how hard they are to stabilize, that makes them even more impressive with the weights you are using….just wild.💪

It’s come a long way for sure and it was a bit squirrelly in the beginning, but week in/week out it’s become second nature and just locked in to the pad. All about the setup

Your numbers always impress!!!

Yeah dude it's crazy to think that you had so much gas in the tank still after that double. How has recovery been this week?

Bro it moved like an opener too. Greased it.

the biggest thing for her has been to first just try to reign her lifestyle choices in, and that’s been very empowering for her.

for sure. lifestyle is the biggy. hopefully she can find an active hobby to help fuel it. I've seen so many people lose crazy amounts of weight only to gain them back later because of sedentary lifestyles that lead to eating junk. My ex lost a ton of weight after our boy was born and I think xfit was a major contributor for her. She has put some back on but generally looks like an xfit girl with a sturdy foundation. Now in her 40s she doesn't compete as much but does coach at the local box and the whole xfit world is still her lifestyle hobby so it helps immensely, which is huge because even though she was a varsity basketball and volleyball player she sorta grew up hating sports because her she felt her parents only forced her into them so she wouldn't get fat lol.

having that active hobby I know helps her stay in shape a lot and of course then it comes with the friendships and communities at the box, that keep you coming back for more. it becomes a positive cycle.

Been good recovery, mostly lol. Work got cortisol a bit elevated the other day so i pushed my saturday session to Sunday, after a morning/afternoon paddleboard session with the fam. Vitamin D is suuuuurrrrrrggggging! Felt amazing and that was the recovery i needed.
