Skunked. Felt it come on fast and hard with no lube yesterday. Sinuses and throat are charcoal. Breathing through a straw. No way in taking heavy bench tomorrow after much deliberation. Better this happen now at 8 weeks out than any sooner. All part of the game.

Well that was a minor setback. Crazy how fast it came on. I did get worried one night as the congestion encapsulated my lungs faster than anything I’ve ever had. I don’t like it. Down 4 lbs today and finally getting this **** out of my chest and face. Resumed pinning today, I am benching tomorrow, even if there is a fire.

But I’m not gonna call him Dad

Some work is better than no work. I may have missed it catching up but what caused you to be sick? Common flu or cold?

Yeah whatever they are calling it these days. Aggressively respiratory in this case. At one point it felt like my lung capacity was about a coke can, I was concerned at that point. Now just depleted and trying to shake the fatigue and congestion

Damn bro that's some scary stuff. I hope you're feeling better. Being able to hit some weights I'm sure feels good given the previous circumstances. Stay safe, brother.

Be careful out there! All types of nasty going around. Double up on those preventives - Vit C, Elderberry, Zinc...

I've seen this for at least 3 guys logs in here right now dealing with similar symptoms. Plus my own family dealing with cough/congestion.

Few people around me had it the same time. Visually and audibly sick, a nasty one for sure!

Fresh ammonia in the mail today! Haven’t been able to breathe the last week, you know exactly what I did.

Just been reformatting my approach now with this derail. Heading in tomorrow for heavy triples to see where I stand.
No deload again except the week of the meet, gonna make up lost ground in a sensible manner. No idea body weight I’ll check tomorrow, but light!
Thinking sleeves from here out to save the elbows from the abuse that is coming, pull them during peaking weeks.
Just ideas in my echo chamber…

The thing about sleeves is, if they let you tolerate training you otherwise wouldn’t, they’re going to make you stronger overall - even with the little dip you might see dropping them out at the end. There are only 3 single reps of the entire prep that must be done sleeveless, at the meet on the platform.

I see guys wear sleeves in the warmup area even and go out to bench fine occasionally. Same for straps before they hook grip. I am not advising this, but point being bench isn’t rocket science. So your plan to wear them besides peaking work makes complete sense to me. And you can still wear them for accessories then, your triceps or any bench variations for hypertrophy, partial ROM, very different pattern. Basically anything that isn’t your comp bench work.

Usually having a great day is about showing up healthy enough to push maximally - this is more important even than skill. Skill without health can’t be executed!

Gotta keep those elbows flowing! After watching your Swede vid I am definitely guilty of not wrapping wrists as often as I should (I have not used wraps once this block ) and it starts to wear on the elbows (not the wrists). So, I will be remedying that starting today. I’ve been stupid not to at my age really. I did buy a fresh pair when I picked up these new Yellowjackets…. My last pair was was about 6 years old. I’ll prob refresh these yearly from here out.

First night using the cpap in like 8 days or something dumb. Omfg I feel so much better getting sleep. Most of this gunk is out and I don’t sound like I’m dying. Let’s go see what has become of my bench lol

Yeah something Swede said to me off camera was that even if you are wearing your wraps all the time for everything, you are still obviously getting stronger under the wrap too, same as wearing a belt. Your naked base still obviously goes up, but you are more proficient with the equipment than adding it last minute later.

Mind you he had benched at least 580 in a slingshot with naked wrists, & 551 raw a couple times, and he said if he could go back and do it all again he wishes he would have worn them from the start for everything. He teaches people to even wear them on warmups, if he can get them to. They make a big difference in elbow and shoulder health, aside from the wrist support and performance enhancement. Including for squats.

I wore them when I squat 500 low bar last week, along with the Yellow Jackets you advised, and was amazed how much better my elbow felt than when I normally jam it under a straight bar periodically. I felt so stupid for neglecting such a simple bandaid so long. Normally I only wrap wrists on squat when peaking on a squat bar for a meet.

We live and learn, or learn from those who have gone before. God knows I have a list of things I would have done differently lol

Elbow sleeves were quite loose this week lol. So lying in bed last night i was hoping to even hit 365 for a triple and that wouldn’t be tooooo much of a loss. Strength took a hit but not as bad as I felt it would. Lung capacity still on the mend so left this session at this as I have a hectic 48hrs of work ahead of me. Felt so good to be back under the bar! Go give it hell gents.

Nice work and congrats on not losing as much ground as you thought you would. That is always a great discovery...

Looking good in here!
When I hit hotel gyms/travelling it makes me think my wraps are quite the crutch because I wear them a lot at my normal gyms and don't always take them with me on work trips, yet I'll typically hit my same numbers while travelling, without preWO, etc lol.

But hell I love cinching them down for big pulls even, and I usually leave them on loose even when I don't need them almost like sweatbands. IDK, its just part of the ritual for me. a couple warm-ups, then the wraps goes on the wrists.

I’m trying to make it ritual. I’ve been bad at wrapping up until maximal loads and sure it will start taking a toll so time to address it!

I think I'm used to it from getting sore wrists back in the day from DB curls etc so I always try to throw down some warmup sets nakkie, then wrap up. Historically the reverse being in xfit when you might have like an overhead press in to burpees or something in a wod and the wraps would just cause more issues so you'd either ditch them or move to knuckle pushups-etc to avoid the wrap from making things worse lol.

They can be a bit cumbersome. But not being able to train would prob be more cumbersome 🤣
