Today's dress size 12 was actually a 16 not too long ago.
Women are on average 20lbs heavier than just a couple decades ago. The children learn it from their parents.
CROWLER
Shame them? No.
Chuck a few rocks at them? Well... OK, no to that as well - but I did double clutch on that one.
Seriously, weight is and will continue to be a major issue, and obesity-related health costs will skyrocket. Of course, in this age of political correctness it will be a syndrome before long: since no one is called to have any personal responsibility.
Maybe health care costs should be rated based on a health index (like auto insurance being based on one's driving record). The situation will only change when it hits people in the wallet (assuming that the average abdominal role doesn't become so large by then that it renders wallets useless).
how about a fat tax on fast food & convienience food that is high in sugar and fat?
how about making gym and fitness club memberships tax deductable?
Hopefully parents with obese kids have the chance to watch the vid and pick up on the irony, I was 260 back in high school and used the constant shamings as motivation to choose a healthier lifestyle
I for one will openly admit I have no compassion. People, for the most part, put themselves in the situation they are in. Parents shouldn't let their kids get fat. What is the benefit of being fat? There is none. You're health sucks, your social environment sucks, everything sucks about it. Then you hang out with other fat people and get even fatter, and parents don't do **** until they find out the health risks when it can affect them in their pockets. Even then some parents don't do ****. No human being should be fat. Think of it this way, long before civilization existed and the world was still evolving humans evolved to be the best and smartest to walk the earth. There were no fat humans, they were weedled out by natural selection. There weren't any of the problems that humans have today. Why? because they would just die out, the way that it should be, therefore saving the species. There was no weak. Now its like everyone is De-evolving. All these genetic problems and sicknesses and everything, makes me sick. end of rant.

I really don't know what the problem is that is causing all these fat kids. Is it the parents, or the greedy society in general? We seem to be living in an ever increasing "I want it - I get it right now" society...my family never even had cable tv while I was growing up, yet kids these days expect that to be a minimal norm, plus video games, movies, etc.
Why do we seem to be in a time when we "NEED" to have BOTH parents away from the house working? Is it because females are happy doing this, or is it because we just "NEED" to buy more and more junk?
My mother was a stay at home mother while I was growing up. I was fed whole wheat sandwiches and raw veggies, etc. A generation or 2+ ago, the women stayed at home and the guys went to work. I'm not trying to make a comment on whether or not women should stay at home or work, but rather suggesting that when a parent stays at home, I'm guessing the kids get more proper meals. When both parents work - they just "don't have time" to make a meal, hence they ol' drive through...
Anyways, I was made fun of because I was so skinny as a kid. Many of them were fat kids too. Yeah, still emotional probs with that effect me. BUT - I worked damn hard and sacrificed a lot to achieve the body I have now. I do not want someone to all of a sudden take away all my hard work and just say "it's ok to be obese". Next thing you know, it's "ok" to quit your job and not pay the rent...cuz working is hard...just love me for my insides...
FATTIES!!
**** gixx we must be blind........damn those paint chips.....:frustrate
i told you not to eat all that paint when we were little kids....:fool2:

Actually it was the people who were best at storing calories, those with a tendency toward being fat and the ability to survive food shortages, that survived and reproduced. The reason there weren't many fat people until recently is because food was scarce and people had to bust their ass physically on a daily basis just to survive. Or in other words there wasn't much chance to get fat. Now there is much more leisure time, and cheap calorie dense food that's easily available, and therefore a ****load of fat people.
And you're likely not going to help a fat kid by just shaming him. What the **** is a kid going to do when he's shamed, go to the body recomp boards and learn about leptin and intermittent fasting? Not likely. He's going to reinforce bad habits, go huddle somewhere and eat, and likely not learn what he needs to learn and unlearn the **** he's learned thus far. You need to give them a positive route to follow, and within that context shame is a tool to use to get them on the right path.
I'm for personal responsibility to an extreme beyond most. But blaming a kid who has never been taught the right things is just plain idiocy. You're not born knowing proper nutrition and eating habits, just like you're not born knowing how to pilot a plane. It's something that's either learned or neglected. Blame the people who did the neglecting, help the kids who never learned.
