Now the abs do re-oxygenate much faster then other muscles, there for can be trained more, and with less rest in between sets. If you notice when doing crunches, you are sore at say 15-20 (if you are doing them nicely) you rest.....maybe 15-20 seconds later much less pain and you can go for another set.
sorry to get lengthy here, but ultimately YES! Using weighted exercises on abs will get them bigger and more thicker looking and will also give you the separation you want to see when at a low bf%

sage said:yes...i would agree with this. personally in the past, ive always been the one who did countless amounts of crunches and side bends without weights and got a narrow waist but really never a great look in my abdominals (just narrow and tone). but the last couple of years, ive been using more weighted exercises and it just looks much better.
