Do you do your crunches or situps fast or slow or combo... Talk to ya..

I do everything on a decline board/bench and I go slow whenever I use weights and do combos whenever i use just my bodyweight

mostly slow. my favorite rep scheme is 3-3-3 on the up-contraction-down phases.

i do a combo mostly, start off fast, then when it begins to burn ill do them slow. 25lb weight on my chest also slows me down a bit :)

Just one 25 plate...

...all the coolguys use two ...

only time i use an up tempo rep scheme is my last set (sometimes) on any twist and leg-up motions.

ditto, when training my obliques, i like to use a roman chair and and do the crunches relatively fast with the twisting motion.

works nice

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but Do you guys think that it is best to weighted ab exercises in order to get them big? Thanks

yes! IMO a lot of people tend to forget/neglect the fact that abs are a muscle also.

Now would you ask the question. (and this isnt a flame or anything) "Do you guys think its best to do weighted bicep exercises to get them big?"

Answer would seem obvious. Of course

Now the abs do re-oxygenate much faster then other muscles, there for can be trained more, and with less rest in between sets. If you notice when doing crunches, you are sore at say 15-20 (if you are doing them nicely) you rest.....maybe 15-20 seconds later much less pain and you can go for another set.

sorry to get lengthy here, but ultimately YES! Using weighted exercises on abs will get them bigger and more thicker looking and will also give you the separation you want to see when at a low bf%

yes...i would agree with this. personally in the past, ive always been the one who did countless amounts of crunches and side bends without weights and got a narrow waist but really never a great look in my abdominals (just narrow and tone). but the last couple of years, ive been using more weighted exercises and it just looks much better.

Wow.... a post 1 1/2 years ago. Who brought this back from the dead by voting? (I sound intelligent  )

trying holding the weight behind your head. I used to always put it on my chest(45lb), but a friend suggested to do it behind my head and DAMN...that **** hurts :hammer: Hit my abs a lot harder than when the weight was on my chest. I also had to drop the weight down to 25lbs.

Neck injuries having that weight push against the back of your head which is why a lot of people do not lock their hands behind they hand anymore when doing sit ups.

well if your doing them right then having the weight behind your head isn't a problem. I said to hold the weight there not cheat and use your arms to pull yourself up(like most people i see in the gym).

i put a reasonably heavy db (50/65lb) on my chest while doing crunches/situps. It seems to really help strengthen the mid-section as well as build larger ab muscles that stick out a little more.

I don't use weights specifically because I still have fat in that area. When I get to a low enough BF i'll add weighted crunches/situps
