Of course you see that on TV. They only seem to spend time on the bad stuff and hamsters playing piano. You slap more control on the good gun owners and more criminals commit more crime. If they know good regular people are unarmed they feel much safer committing crime.
 
The fact of the matter is that the majority of gun related crimes are committed by people who are not actually following any of the gun laws. You can add all the laws you want, but criminals gonna crime.

See: drugs... Totally illegal, still everywhere, still dangerous.

No, booneman is right. If they were following the gun laws, they wouldn't be commiting the crimes. Such as having a firearm on school property, discharging a firearm in city limits, and many more, on top of the fact that it's illegal to murder someone.

but then its not illegal... and probably not even as much of a "problem" since people are actually being reasonable with it and not just "binge" smoking it like you would if you had to be shady about it ha.

IMO there should be at least one school official or school policeman/guard taht is allowed to carry. Yes, its a bit overbearing and may make some people nervous, but the threat of it alone will most likely prevent any chance of someone trying to bring their own in, and should someone ever actually bring a gun with intent to do harm, think how many lives could be saved?

Your heart is in the right place (metal detectors can help) but we have friends that teach in north STL and they still have shootings despite metal detectors.
Mainly gang related, by young minors breaking every gun law there is. And look at Chicago. If you've ever driven through the poor neighborhoods, not just the south side even, you'll understand the level of crime. Body lines on the street and ain't nobody legally carrying.
 
I'm not saying if everyone was armed it would be safer, but with heavy gun control laws it is absolutely NOT safer here. Like mentioned, I think we've developed bigger societal problems driving the violence. Things that stem from people not raising their kids properly.

See if everyday I substitute
Kid's just do not care about learning, their grades, or their education. Stems back to their parents.
When there are parent/teacher conferences the only parents that "Usually" Attend are those who have good grades or care about their kids.
The parents of the kids that have bad grades, lack discipline, lack manners etc never show up.

With this day and age and how some parents are constantly working and never can be with their kids or raise them there enlies the problem with raising them properly. They basically raise themselves off what they see on TV, youtube, twitter, and social media.

I certainly won't debate that. My gf taught middle school in STL for 3 years and that's always what she saw: the kids making good progress had the support at home almost always, and the ones who were struggling (and often rotten apples at that) you couldn't even reach them on any number when they had to call home.

discipline (a decent spanking) and beating your kid with a stick are a bit different ha. I'm a big advocate of a little tough love now and then. People these days take things way too far one direction or the other.

This is a slippery slope. I do not have kids yet, but I was definitely spanked and given the belt as a kid. I can tell u it didn't work one iota. My belief and how I will parent is that if you want respect, you must give your child respect. Just because they are young, small, not fully mentally and emotionally developed, doesn't mean you should yell or hit them. I think that only sets you up for more issues down the road. It's not what you say, but how you say it. In a perfect world, I'll never even have to raise my voice. My moms boyfriend has never yelled at his kids. He tells them calmly what the deal is with a stern and commanding look; that's it. That's my plan.

Reducing the number of guns reduces the number of gun violence - the answer is not to "arm more people" but to reduce the number is circulation or the type of guns available.

The culture of the US makes this thought process hard to comprehend, you've all been around guns since birth and giving up that right is almost incomprehensible, but its not about you, its about all the innocent lives taken because some people cannot be trusted with a gun.
From an outside persepctive I find it hard to comprehend given that australia, where guns were legal like the US, made them illegal for carrying and banned certain, concealable types, has had such a huge decline in gun violence that it is almost taboo to see one.

As long as the US continues to support the arming of more people, the number of shooings will increase - the data supports this hugely.

Im not a US citizen so it doesnt really concern me, but its still a point worth considering.

I disagree. If you know the guy next to you has a gun. Chances are you Aren't going to start that fight. I own a gun for recreational shooting and home defense. I want more. I feel like I need more, unfortunately. I had an article published after the sandy hook shooting (which took place 30 minutes from

Disagree based on? Opinion or facts? Its a fact that less guns = less shootings. But thats obvious. If neither of you have a gun, then noone gets into a fight, lol.

You guys rank #1 for shootings in developed nations for a reason. For every responsible gun owner you have, there are 5 who arnt. Crims gonna crim, of course.
 
Even without guns, people would find a way to terrorize and kill others. It's not the ease of access to guns that's causing the problem.

If someone is going to murder the kids at school who beat him up, he's going to do it with whatever he can. Gun, bomb, knife, run them over with his car.

Look at mass shootings in schools of developed countries in other countries vs the states.

Hardly any. Gun acceasibility allows instant access to a tool capable of wounding and killing many people in a short frame of time.

Acessibility makes it easy for them to get them. im all for weapon ownership, I disagree you need to carry them to protect yourself.

Maybe now that guns are so common, but walk around the streets of another western nation and youll see noone feels that need

Once the intention is set, it is just a matter of time before that person gets what they want to get the job done.
 
I personally don't like the idea of forfeiting the right to bear arms at all. I think the government has more than enough power in the U.S. as it is. However, you can't argue with Jiigzz's logic - can't shoot a gun you don't have. I do worry though even if you could implement said bans the sheer volume of what's already out there will be more than enough to present a problem.

Doesn't matter the job. Networking is the #1 feature to getting a job. If you know the right people in the right place the chances you get a job over someone else will always be better.

Disagree. It depends on the job, a college degree will usually take precedence. Again, depends on the job as well
 
I have to agree with TheSolution here, now days, how qualified you are for the job is sadly towards the bottom of the list on reasons as to why people are/aren't hired. You see people that cant spell diploma these days in high priority positions all the time.

Unless you have a very specialized degree like myself ;). However, I did learn about my job through a Google group for alumni.

So, I suppose you could say that a combination of the two is ideal.

If you know the people who work the job, a Head executive or someone up in the ranks chances are they will hire you before others.

If you do not have the qualifications to even match or apply for the job of course you will need a better degree and someone that does qualify will get the job

Look at education for example. Most people who get jobs know the other teachers or facility and are handed the job

Substitute years in a district when an opening happens usually a sub will fill in long term or get the job over someone they have no idea about and only see them once in an interview

If two people have the same degree and certifications but one of them knows someone on the hiring process I sure know who is getting the job. Knowing the right people helps the process
 
CAN absolutely help. Some can network all day, and never be hired as an RN, LPN, phlebotomist, sherrif or attorney.

Office jobs, GMs/managers or teaching (apparently) it can absolutely make you a shoo-in for the position by knowing or networking with someone.

Like you said though, no qualifications/experience no job. So, yeah networking can help with certain jobs/fields

RN as in Research Nurse?
My brothers wife is a research nurse and got a job over a person with a better degree (masters) over her (Bachelors) and had 4 more years of experience. Reason she got it was because my brother worked at the same hospital and put in a good word for her to the higher power. If not a RN (Research Nurse) just another example of how that could work out with networking.
