My bleeding takes forever to stop

I've been using high doses of fish oils on a wim from the mega fish oil thread. I noticed that if I get hurt, I bleed for quite awhile before it stops or coagulates.

I'm guessing that the high doses of fish oil is stopping my blood from coagulating effectively. Anyone else taking tons of fish oil notice this ?

I know that the reason behind it is b/c of the overdosing on fish oil. I suppose it is not really a question if it does or not, because it actually does.

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else or is noticible.

My coagulation turn around time is much much longer.

Usually it clots in 5 minutes. Now it is taking long as fizzuck to clot.

Fish oil is known to function as a blood thinner. Mega-dosing it will produce such results as you report.

Yeah, but I'm not taking 30g+ like some people. It is less than that.

I'm very surprised how easily affected it is. I've been doing this for about a month.

This hizzy takes about 30 min to clot up.

I notice it at about 10g ed. I usually get nose bleeds in the fall, not b/c of weather just like picking my nose in autumn J/K, and they were ridiculous. Just keep an eye on it and if i gets out of control take a little break and see if it still happens may be something serious but I wouldn't worry as of yet.

i used to use about 4g/ED -2g morning, 2g night and didn't have a problem.

the elevated use of fish oil has started effecting the clot time though. aleast my cardiovasular system is healthy due to an elevation of my HDL.

..........then again they released a study regarding vytorin/zetia that possibly indicated that even if your HDL is high it might not reduce mortality from heart disease.

:frustrate:

Take extra vitamin K

You do not even need to do 30g to see such outcomes. I am aware that fish-oil mega-dosing for a lot of people here means upwards of 20g or 25g daily. Yet, the average recommendation for daily fish oil consumption is around 4g of pure fish oil that would yield something like 1.4g EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and about 1.0g DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). This is about 16mg of cholesterol and about 5.0g of (healthy) fat. Anyway, this amount of pure fish oil is enough to produce blood-thinning effects. So, imagine what 10g of pure fish oil would do. Not to mention about 30g!

I question the material Poliquin writes. He has a new favorite ingredient that he likes and writes an article praising it. I'm not sure if this is a publicity stunt or what.

The real secrets I'm sure he keeps for his paid clients.

Stop getting hurt and you should be fine.;)

I've got my dad on 6grams of fishy oil a day.. And he has the same problem; cut himself shaving, bled like, all day..

Still though, I firmly believe that the benefits of fish oil totally outweigh the inconvenience of trickling a little more blood.

I really don't think mega dosing fish oil is a good idea.

i think that article is a bit of stretch... Fish oil (omega 3's) isn't some designer drug, it's a naturally occurring fat that was a HUGE component of our ancestor's diets.

Benefits become dangers when you throw the recomended dosing out the window and become your own guina pig!.

No one here has doubted the benefits of fish-oil supplementation. Yet, EPA/DHA, even though they are naturally-occurring substances in our system, are known to have blood-thinning effects. The point is that mega-dosing fish-oil is hardly a justifiable option, especially if it is done on a daily basis.

Sure they ate FISH!. It is a lot different than taking huge doses of fish oil!. Also are ancestors didn't have to worry about poluted waters...It is COMPLETELY different now than it was several hundred years ago.

I don't megadose my fishoil, but I like to get in maybe 5g on average. I have tons of canned wild sockeye salmon that has almost 10g of Omega-3's per can!
I do worry about mercury a little because I have fish almost every day, although it's almost always wild salmon. Maybe one day I'll get my mercury levels checked, but until then I'll still take moderate doses of Omega-3's.

I was thinking about Megadosing in the summer on my cut. I've got 2000 Fish Oil caps from nutra to get me going lol :)
