lower back pain during squats

I no longer shoot my knees past my toes when I do squats. I haven't had knee pain anymore, but now I'm having lower back pain while squatting.

your chest is leaning out too far. lower the weight a bit and focus on form, and see what gives.

good idea thanks. I think I'll take about 20lbs off. I can squat, but I'm still struggling a little bit. Also, maybe this way I can start to go deeper.

Yeah I was going to suggest that along with strengthening your core - squats hit most of the body, and if one part is lagging strength training wise then you'll feel it. Also make sure you keep your head up at all times.

Thought I was supposed to look forward. I've strained my neck from looking up, in fact I have a tendency to look up and strain my neck while doing exercises. Then I think "I'm looking up" and then look down and strain my neck that way.

Just keep it neutral straight ahead. Don't look up or down. And definitely don't turn sideways to check yourself in a mirror. I've seen some people do this and scares the crap out of me. Doing squats or deadlifts.

Something like this is nearly impossible to figure out over the internet without video. My guess would be that it's something related to your technique, but it's only a guess. If you can get some video put up you can get much more specific feedback.

Problem is I don't have a video recorder, or someone that can record me.

To squat without your knees flairing you are sitting back more, if you are not wide enough in your base and long legged this is going to cuase you to have to bend over more to reach parallel, i know, i have this problem as well. You can try squatting with a wider base, this will allow you to sit back a little more without bending so much. If you can't squat with a wider base thier are a few options like wearing really loose powerpants or doing more box squats. This is a guess because like said above, without a video it is tough to diagnose.

Is it a compressed feeling or is the muscle feel strained?

I did some exercises today and the area around the top of my neck felt really tight where my skull meets my neck. I hate going to my doctor to dicuss things like this, because he is well an idiot. When I told him I worked out he said "I don't know why you would want to workout".

Thats a great point your head should be straight ahead or even up slightly. A friend of mine had the same problem and found this Invalid Link Removed which goes over exercise technique and they recently reviewed the back squat showing you how not to do it and how to do it.
