Log...it’s better than bad it’s good

A good friend of mine calls it "Old Man Strength".

:)

My dad is a retired contractor. He was strong as hell up until he retired. Definitely had the old man strength. Used to always say “I can curl anything you put in my hands”

Wow.

When I was in High School, a good friend of mine was stronger than I was at the time (although my strength far surpasses his now).

He said (back then) that he'd be benching, and his Dad would come in, take the bar in One Hand, and press it over his head.

LOL.

He was a BIG man, though.

Rackpull max day
Let me start by saying pull days are usually my absolute least favorite training days. NOT TODAY!
As I walked the old rickety stairs to my basement I said to myself “I’m gonna get after it today!”
The weight seemed almost effortless on almost every lift. After I set a volume pr and zero back pumps on rackpull I just kept adding weight until I got a max weight pr. Now I did set my training max very conservative on this lift as I’ve been working around an injury. I’m happy to say by not deadlifting for over a month I feel no pain. Next week I may do some very light pulls from the floor to see if it’s something I can do again. I also set up my pulley system perfectly now to perform seated high and low rows, which I’ve missed a lot. I even threw in a few sets of curls at the end since this is something I never do(probably the most boring exercise in my opinion.

Rackpulls max day
5x135
5x160
3x195
5x245
3x275
8x310 volume pr
4x355
3x380
3x425
2x475 PR

Bent over rows
135x15
155x10
175x8x2
225x4

Seated cable high row 4sets of 15
Seated cable low row 4sets of 15
Ez bar concentrated curls 65x10x3

I was just updating my training maxes in my 5/3/1 app for my next wave. I have to say after one month on M1a I’m loving the strength increases.
Squat and Bench +25lb
High incline +40lb
Rackpull +185lb( not a true increase due to starting so light)

I’m excited for this last wave of 5/3/1. Afterward I may do a variation or possibly program my own.

5/3/1 is really nice in PCT because it still autoregulates the volume on the main lift to accommodate your strength fluctuation. Basically if you get weaker when you come off, you just end up lifting less reps in the AMRAP, so it effectively just moves into a heavier block to help keep your strength.

I think the epistane might be drying me out a little because halfway through my pressing my elbow started to feel really tight. Nothing major and I’ve done a lot of pressing this week with how my work schedule was. In retrospect I should’ve done my squat day today or rested but my lower back felt really tight after pulling yesterday so I opted to press instead.
With that being said despite not feeling super motivated I hit a volume pr on high incline. Afterwards I put all emphasis on my shoulders going for volume versus big numbers. It feels great to do proper military movements again and my goal last year this time when I still trained at a commercial gym was a 275lb military. I’m going to be chasing that again.

Very High incline
5x95
5x120
3x145
5x155
5x180
9x205 volume pr
4x225
3x225

Military db press
40x12
50x10
60x8
65x8

Seated military (BTN)
95x8x4

Facepulls
Tricep extensions
One arm pushdowns

Epistane dries joints a lot. Don’t use any AI if you are. This is also why I recommended that little bit of leftover LMG, which is a lot like deca the way it pads the joints.

I wound up being way off on what I thought I had left on the LMG or I’d throw it in.

I’d say this vicious stack gave you a little injection of silverback! Nice lean mass gains

Thanks dude. The scale has gone up 5lb but I honestly hate using the scale as an indicator of size. I feel bigger now than when I was 210lb

That is key !!

How many OZ ground beef per meal ?

Thanks brother. As for the beard it’s been a part of me pretty much all of my sobriety. I forget what I look like without it

adds 20lbs to any lift AND serves as a reminder about the positive path you’ve chosen to tread.

got my 8th birthday coming up in just over a month myself - never complacent but always grateful.

Congratulations!!! My wife and I will both have 9 years in April

Congratulations to you all, I admire anyone striving to be better !!

It’s the weekend so I’m resting. Weight has been just 196lb consistently. Was talking to a friend of mine in Florida and he said this is the leanest I’ve looked at this weight so I know I’m doing something right. Eating has become a little harder as I know it would this late in the run. I’ve been eating smaller meals more frequently the past few days to get it all in. Another thing to note is aggression is up, which has me excited for this weeks training. Hope your all having a good weekend.
Btw anyone that has experience with a reverse hyper let me know how you liked it. I might impulsively buy some new equipment for my sobriety anniversary and what better than something to promote a healthy way of life.

If you want a reverse hyper the econo pnd or whatever Titan calls it is phenomenal. It’s super solid and been using it for 5-6 months now. Really satisfied with it.

New equipment always sparks a little more enthusiasm in your training !!

“All the prayers in the world can't bring you back.
It's your last breath, this is your last breath.”
- RIP Ryan

Today’s workout wasn’t good. I got a bad nights sleep and I’m not really feeling it today. Without getting too personal, I got some horrible news yesterday and honestly this is what happens with the life I lead before. You get better or you die.
Anyway it was squat day and I had every intention of doing more and then hitting volume comp bench but it wasn’t there. I’m gonna nap with my dogs, pick my wife up from work later(snowstorm here) and enjoy my family. Don’t mean to be a downer but this is life. I wouldn’t trade what I have today for anything.

Squats
5x155, 190, 230, 250, 285, 325
Low bar
145x10x2
Front squats
155x6x3
Banded pull throughs

Sorry to hear that you got bad news, always sucks. The rules of life dictate that every day can’t be good. It seems that you’re on a good path now, which is something to be proud of. Keep your head up 🤘🤘

I read that quote and was knew I recognized them, then saw the song

It’s healthy to grieve, and like you said death is part of life and on a similar smaller scale bad days must happen in the gym too. Be grateful for the choices you made to change things for the better, and the blessings you worked towards that you have been given!

Woke up this morning ready to go. I have off again today due to this snow. I spent the first hour of my morning digging my wife’s car out as well as shoveling the street. Philly only touches the major streets apparently. By the time I drove her to work my biceps were already on fire. It was bench day and was pumped, took a sample of some ghost legend with 1 cap of spook and it was on.
I switched up my workout a little utilizing some of the bars I have. I also warmed up with some light incline dumbbell pressing before going into comp bench. My benching felt good but the weight felt heavy today. For CG work I used my cambered multigrip (picture attached) as it really gives a good stretch on the pecs and the grip kills the tris.
I wanted to use my axle so I hit incline with it and honestly this was my favorite lift of the day, even hit a pr. Finished with some cable tricep work and as I write this my arms are so pumped it hurts to bend them. All in all this was a great workout and I love having all these specialty bars to mix things up.
Weight is steady at 196lb as I close in on the final 2wks of this run. I have never been leaner and with this many veins popping out of my shoulders especially. I’m excited to add the mk677 and hopefully add some more mass in the coming months.

(SFLHC band who went hard. No longer a band, unfortunately)

Also tomorrow is a rest day. Shoveling out Philly has got my back aching something fierce. Who needs snow plows. Philly owes me money I think.

My back used to ache for days after shoveling, I've found the trick is as soon as I'm done shoveling I just in the hot tub, no back pain at all !! I have been doing this for a few years now.

What about us peasants that don’t have one lol

My wife just told my arms looked really pumped and asked if I could stop getting bigger? I told her I wanna gain maybe another 15lb, she said fine but I want you to have a belly again. I was like well of course I will. She told me to go in the kitchen and eat a pint of ice cream. I told her I can’t I just ate dinner to which she said
“See you’re a little bitch, you don’t have the discipline to gain weight like that”

She getting worried other ladies might notice you too?

LOL

She’s always liked me fatter. It’s weird. She kind lives vicariously through my eating. I actually prefer not being lean. I never wanted that bodybuilder look. I just wanna be strong.

I usually enjoy carrying a little extra bulk.
Big and Strong.

That’s exactly what I was thinking lol

Fortunately for you, strength is also about leverage. Fatter you get, stronger you’ll be provided you have the same muscle and can still get into optimal positions (especially on deadlift).

What I would give to be able to go back into time to have a lifting session and drinking session with the great Dimel.

But in reality I did get in the bath recently with some epsom salt Bc I was sore and it just sucked honestly
