I know a lot of people suffering from one arm being bigger than the other or stronger whatever it may be...but I think I have like a genetic freak disorder or something....its clearly visible my right arm is bigger and more defined and I can put like a 50-55 lb dumbell in my right hand and do it without cheating 10 times well...put it in my left and cheat...use my back and shoulder whatever and get like 3 or 4 reps maybe...what the hell can i do lol I think if I didnt cheat and tried to just use my bicep i would be able to do like 2...its really really sad and im getting frusterated and I feel like I always do a lot less with my right arm fearing it will just get bigger and leave my left one behind even more.

Bean,

My friend, you are not the only one who has this problem. Most of us have this problem in where one arm is dominant to the other. In my case, my left arm is weaker than the right. It used to bother me that my left was so weak and my right was stronger and bigger. In an attempt to bring proportion to the muscles that I had trouble with I started to do barbell exercises instead of dumbbells. First when I started my left lat was extremely behind. I worked on that by doing lat pull downs and I dropped the dumbbell rows that I was used to doing. My left arm was about 1/2 an inch smaller than the right. I started to do more barbell exercises and tried to limit the dumbbells.

My theory is that although one arm may be dominant or one side may be dominant, instead of using other parts of your body such as shoulders and back to aid and cheat the lift, why not use your dominant other half? If the right picks up more and the left not so much hit the barbells. The right arm will support the left allowing it overtime to grow.

Don't take my word for it. This response is just from my personal experience with symmetry in body parts. To this day, my lats are evened out. Before it used to look like I only worked out one side of my lats while the other, I decided to leave alone. To this day my left biceps are 1/4th or 1/5th off from my right. Try this, maybe it will help you out.

I'm right handed , but my left arm is bigger and stronger???

My left arm is much stronger than my right due to double epiphyseal plate fractures in my right radius and ulna. Just be a nazi about keeping unilateral movements 100% even on both arms. Never do anything out of symmetry, ever. Even lifting household items like groceries, always distribute evenly if you have this problem. Now there's no difference between my 2 arms or anywhere else. And there used to be.

Yea Im workin on it slowly or trying too. I find myself a lot more doing chores around the house or whatever it is i may be doing I lift things or do things more with my left arm to try to make it stronger...without a doubt my arm has gotten bigger than it was...will just take time and im stubborn and want the damn results right now...I always imagine doing a curl and out of nowhere it will just inflate like blowing up a balloon and be fine lol..im a dreamer..gonna win the lottery too

i was talking to a professional body builder i met the other day and he said to use more dumbbels and less barbells. because barbells your right arm can help pull what your left cant. just make sure to lift the weights evenly.

True, dumbbells help develop stabilizer muscles that barbells cannot also.

It's such a beating dragging them back and forth from the benches when hitting other muscles though.I was reading about one pro who rarely uses db's for chest and shoulders cause he feels you waste a rep or two dragging them back and forth and getting them into position.......I think he's right!!!

Good point and I do agree. I like db's for fly's and incline fly's not presses tho.

yes, thats really the cure. Like the original poster said he can do 50-55 clean for 10 with his right arm, and sloppy for 4 with his left. what he should be doing is 45 clean for 10 with both arms, even if the right arm doesn't FEEL like its getting a full workout. that way the left arm will slowly catch up, as it will get more hypetrophy than the right.

yep do alternate reps or one arm at a time starting with the weaker side and taking it to failure and stopping the other side at the same # of reps.

N/a

true i dont like it for bench eather just dumbell fly's. But i do do them for curls alot. ill do 50's in sets of ten then go to 45's and do them as many as i can then 40' as many as i can so on all the way down to 10's. then i go to a latpull down or rows (seated or bent over dumbbell) because they secondary teh bicep and it has made a huge difference.
