LA Fitness...My experience......

So, there is a newly remodeled LA Fitness about 5min away from my house.

I thought I would check it out. So I go online, and get a "guest pass" sent to my email. print it out, and head on out.

I get to the front desk.
I dont know if it was a boy or girl that helped me, i couldn't tell.
but they spent a few min looking at the computer, then the guest pass, then back at the computer, then sends me over to the desk where they sign people up.

pleasentries are exchanged, I sit down, guy (jim) says to me, you look like you work out, so what are you looking to do?

me: "work out, havn't been in here since you guys started remodeling, so thought i'd come and check it out:

"jimmy: So, do you want to join or what?"

"me: Not right now, I just thought i'd see what y'all have to offer"

before I can finish....

"jimmy: our guest passes are only for people who want to join, and also i wouldn't be able to sign you up since you've been in here before but i appreciate your honesty."

me: uh, i've never been a member here, or used a guess pass"

"jimmy: yea, but unfortunately our guest passes are only for people who want to become members."

Okay, I know, i know, I should of known, la fitness. but, still thought i'd take a look.

I'll never sign up for that gym, or ever recomend prospective clients.

horrible, horrible experience. and I was hoping to put their personal trainers through the ringer too.

cant even complain, go to the companies contact us page, they just give you the phone number to the office you just had a problem with. Must be d/t too many complaints to the corprate office.

x2

these la fitness gyms are all over by me... literally one in every other town

they pay their trainers 8$ an hour

the typical client has spikey hair, huge upper body, and no legs at all

it really reminded me of walking down the boardwalk in seaside heights (jersey shore)

the weights were thrown everywhere, the employees were unprofessional, and it was WAY overcrowded with idiots that have NO clue what fitness is all about.... they seemed to all believe steroids, spray tans, and cologne were the only thing that mattered....

not a gym i will be recommending to anyone either

the only thing that draws people in is the price

yea, the price for my wife and I to join would of been pretty affordable, which is why I wanted to take a look. If I liked it, then i'd be able to talk my wife into going and taking a look.

but how can I say, you'd really like the place, if i've never made it past the front desk.

maybe im crazy, but if i had a gym and i gave out guest passes, even if someone didn't want to join, i'd still try to get them in and working out to see what I had to offer.

I'd like to check out lifetime fitness too, hopefully when i do, i make it past the front desk.

I have 3 gyms in my town, Gold's Gym, YMCA, and a small owned gym, Larry's. All within 10-15 miles from my house.

I didn't have that issue when I went in to La fitness for the first time, the lady asked me questions and I told her I'm looking to get back into shape. I don't remember the rest but I made it pass the front desk then into the yoga class with my date who is now my wife. I honestly think she thought that I didn't have the money to join anyway and thats why she gave up and I love it when that happens. After I went there I had fun and wanted to go back so I did and put it on my Amex and the same girl looked surprised.

Honestly they get paid ****ty and they don't get treated that nice nor respected because of it. Although you had a bad experience I hope you do consider La Fitness as I love mine and I go often. I have La Fitness all gym pass, 24 hour Fitness all gym 3 year paid pass then goes to like 50 for a year after that and I have Planet Fitness Black Card. I treat different gyms like vacation spots haha

interesting. another guy i talked to in my class said they guy was just blowing me off and didn't want to bother with me.

I would of thought at the least if a person drove down there, they would attempt to sell them by showing them around the gym. i mean, isn't that what a 7 day guest pass is for, to be able to see what they got to offer?

i dont know man, very dissapointed. didn't get that at 24hr fitness though. they had no problem letting me tour myself and workout for a week. nice guys there.

I am a member here during the summer because there is nothing else around. You experience is pretty accurate. Always hounding me for my friends to join and ****. They don't care about their members, only about potential members. And swolen87 hit it right on the head, all the members there don't have any legs and are just there to socialize and flex in the mirrors. When i go to the gym, I go in, get my **** done and leave. These people just sit around and get in the way... very annoying.

Honestly I would have told him I want to hear it from the manager that's what a guess pass is for. Total bs, thats the whole point to a guest pass, to try the gym. Every gym I have been to usually the salesman talks to you after the workout.

I'm a memeber at LA and guess you get what u pay for so hard to complain. There is one trianer there tho who i consistantly laugh at. He has a big upper body and spiked hair (do they hire clones?). But he has EVERY client regardless of age, health, etc... lift extremely heavy and do tiny partial reps. I laugh every time, usually enough for the client to look over and someties question the dude. Guess it help him keep clients if he can claim he helped them leg press 600lbs (even if only for 3 inches and him pushing every rep)

im a member at LA and when i first went, i used a guest pass (while i was a member at 24) and they asked me that, and i said yes i am thinking about it but can not commit to anything right now and they let me go.

oh for ppl who want to join LA, just tell them 24 hour offered you an insane price keep on saying that and they usually come down to that price haha

what a coincidence, i printed a guest pass last week and been goin all week. its ok and was surprised its pretty nice and barely anyone there. i think there were like 6 people total by the free weights, 4/6 of em were juicin for sure cuz they were just huge and asked me if i do. the first couple days was straight cuz the front desk girl didnt really care to see my guest pass so she just said im good to go when i walk in. thurs and friday there was some guy workin front desk and kept lookin at my pass and lookin at my ID for like 10min. im like dude, i been comin here everyday this week and spoke with one of the sales people, i just wanna lift. so he calls another sales guy and sat me down and he kept tryin to sell me a membership and wouldnt like let me leave. i was like ill sign up at the end of the week just so he can leave me alone. finally let me go and hit the weights. when i was about to leave, i had to go get my ID back and then he kept talkin and talkin and tryin to persuade me to get a membership right there. freakin annoying but i am gonna sign up at the end of the year cuz im sick of payin at lifetime up the ass and havin 100 kids runnin around and people hoggin the weights. for $25/month, LA is totally worth it...after u get the membership

You should have gave the guy a classic one liner like Arnold would have done. "Yeah, I'll sign up, but first my fist has to sign up to your face." BAM! I'm kidding, about this of course, but that's what I would have felt like doing.

Or he could have just screamed, " BY KROM!!!!!" right in his face.

ya i got 24.99 a month, no down payment, no contract. love LA

great gym to go to and NOT lift legs !

edit: you should only have to pay half price if your gunna do half a workout

hahahahah wish i had the balls to do it. but like i said, im signin up ther next year. went back to lifetime today and i cant stand it. too many seniors hoggin the weights, weights were lost, packed with people... i honestly just wanna go to LA, so empty and thers a wing stop on the way home for a nice post workout meal :)

that guy was a dick and like mentioned before the sole purpose of the guest pass is to try it before you buy it. I guess a lot of guys opt out at the end of the week? regardless the guy you spoke to it is more bad for business. 25$ a month sure beats my $53 a month though ...I personally wouldve been furious so kudos to you for keeping your cool.

My girl lives 25 minutes away from me and she has a gold's gym right by her. So when I decide to be a decent person and go to her place instead of making her come to me, I get a guest pass there no problem everytime.

The part that hurts is that its 5 minutes away from your house. Due to the lack of respect I dont think driving past there and to your regular gym should bother you.

I like LA Fitness. I've used both the New Tampa one, and the Southfield Michigan one, and was happy at both. I pay $30 a month and can bring in 2 guests with me any time, without them asking for names, phone numbers, etc. I go in early morning, so its a bit quieter, seems like more serious people there then, rather than soccer moms and young punks.

well, my wife decided she wanted to join the gym, and me not wanting to let this opportunity pass, I jumped and said, lets go down to la fitness.

the center is only 9 months old, so i was sure she would like it, and she did, and we got signed up. but we spoke with a different salesman though, and we got it for 0 down and 24.99 a month each.

wife has been going every day with me now, so it's all good as long as i got her working out.

I pay $30 at 24 hour fitness. They have a place called planet fitness that's around 10/20 a month but the hours suck. I'm just tired of paying $30. I get to go to the supersport which gives ya a towel and has lots of equipment and ball court
