Kleen - Project 50: Under Construction

Any thing with extra fats in it (cheese, dairy in general, high fat corn chips at the mexican restaurant) have the exact same effect on me. probably partial bloating and partial calories.
Yep, I have no noticeable digestion issues with dairy but having milk before bed definitely leaves me holding some water in the AM. As far ad tortilla chips yeah, I bloat like a mofo from them. I normally try to avoid them altogether when I am cutting unless a special occasion or cheat meal/day.

CBT Nuggets were great, at least from about a decade ago, the ones I got to use.
Agreed! I like them a lot better now that you can see the people talking. I do better feeling like there is interaction than just seeing the computer screen only. Also they have quizzes with the videos now and a lot more labs than they had before. Even have practice exams.

I just finished Cardio, came back and got some meat to eat! I am not extending the fast today since it was a free lunch but I am going low carb until I get home then will figure out what I need to fill in from there. May just keep the whole day low carb.

Lunch 8 oz smoked brisket and 2 jalapenos. I like having a scale here at work so I can weigh things.
It was easy to keep carbs pretty much non existent. No sauce needed, it came from what is supposed to be one of the best in Houston and it sure was amazing! I grabbed the flat so it is the leanest cut but left the nutrition info normal just to cover bases. Best brisket I have had in a while. Had to been smoked for a good 18 hours at 250 or so for the cook to be so good.

I grabbed smoked turkey breast for my mid afternoon feeding which will keep fats very low on that meal as a counterbalance for the high fat action I just got.

Elliptical = 45 minutes 609 calories - I was moving on that bad boy today heart rate stayed in the 150-160 range.

same here. No digestion issues but even when I was sitting with like 8%BF abs and all a day of cheese would make my abs disappear for a few days the way pho and high sodium can.

Yeah it is pretty wild what certain things do to a person's body.

Quick update this morning since I posted everything else last night already.

11/9/22 - Nutrition - Kept protein high, fat reasonable and carbs low.

Invalid Link Removed

11/10/22 Morning Weight 209.4 - down 3lbs from yesterday with some fasting and low carbs.

I do want to work to make sure I get in more fiber on these days. Should have added in some nuts or vegetables. I will definitely make up for that today.

Today calories will be at maintenance to a slight surplus in the 2500-2700 range.

I plan to do lower body tonight when I get home. Going to knock out some SSB Squats, then add in some single leg work and either some leg extensions and curls or forward and reverse sled dragging.

One of the muscles in my rear and or medial delt keeps twitching and annoying me. Nerves waking back after surgery is a real thing.

Go ahead and throw in some bodyweight Bulgarian split squats to failure x 3 sets

This was exactly what I was thinking. They really challenge my hip stability from my glute on that side being a bit weaker. Attack the weakness if you want to grow strong!

@Dustin07 They sure do!!!!

Among my favorite exercises, but god they suck.
My daughter is 12 years old and got introduced to them last Saturday during winter workouts for her travel team

I honestly think its probably her first experience with real Doms, poor thing couldn't walk correctly for 3 days

It's gonna be a love hate relationship but they sure are awesome and will show you your weaknesses for sure.

The Bulgarians know how to make your legs cry

Interesting tidbit: the Bulgarian weightlifting team never did this exercise.

Some asshat thought they would sound more interesting if he falsely ascribed them to a winning nation.

If you ever hear of the Z-Press, named after Zydrunas Savickas, same thing: Big Z has stated in interviews he didn’t invent it and has never done it.

I didn’t know that…..cool little bit of trivia.

From now on when I add them in I think I’ll have to call them the (Faux) Bulgarian Split Squats.🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm starting to notice that I react to foods with water retention (and other strange symptoms actually) that I never noticed before. Even too many eggs will leave me looking extra soft the next morning. I'm not sure if a glass of milk would though because I haven't drank milk without ice cream blended in in years lol. How often are you having cheat meals?

11/10/22 Lower Body in Garage

Elliptical 5 minutes - Pretty intense almost a sprint
Trx T and Y raises

SSB Squats - 155*15, 155*15, 175*15, 175*15, 175*15
- Up 20lbs from last time.

Leg press - 4-1-4-1 tempo no lockout - 270*15, 335*15, 335*15, 335*15, 335*15 - the slow tempo here had my legs toasty with no lockout.

Planks 6x15 seconds - first full planks since the surgery! Worked up from starting on knees last week at therapy. PT said take it slow to break it in so shorter periods of time and more sets. I will add another 5-10 seconds per set each time I do them until I can get back up to 3 1 minute sets.

I was hoping to do some Bulgarian split squats but my hips and lower back were too fatigued by the end of the squats to have enough stability for them. So I decided to save those for another day and push more reps on the leg press.

I slightly overshot calories by 91 but am still quite happy with the macros.

11/11/22 - Morning Weight 211.6 - still under 212 after 2800 cals and 300 carbs, so considering this progress.

I brought some raw broccoli, and greek yogurt spicy ranch dip to snack on once I break my fast then have some italian chicken with veggies for my meal this afternoon. Planning to go get in some cardio while fasted at lunch before I eat anything though. I have built up an extra hour of padding for lunch so I have plenty time.

Actual cheat meals, maybe 1 every 2 weeks if you want to call them that. Occasionally I will end up 200-300 over cals, but normally if I have something not deemed "clean food" I adjust macros and calories elsewhere so it is really just a poor food choice meal. Last true cheat was Halloween, when I had too much candy. However I did have 2 pieces of digiorno and a protein shake for a meal about a week ago. I don't see that as a cheat because it was within my macros and I am trying to follow a 80/20 philosophy were 80 of my food is good choices and 20 can just be whatever with in my macros. To be fair I think i stick around in the 90/10 zone though. Otherwise I haven't had my calories low enough to justify a cheat meal. I have never needed much food or calories to stay thick, and have always had to have my calories low compared to body weight to see movement. Plus I have a sedentary job so not burning off calories like @BOSSMAN or @Smont! Those guys are tearing through their calories all day every day with how much they move!

Gotcha. I'm like you...gotta eat kind of low to lose appropriately. It's frustrating since I love to eat 😆

You and me both!!! I have a good buddy having a birthday party this weekend. He is the one who can BBQ like no other and I am already planning on getting in some calories that night. I will go get a good lift in before I go so it has somewhere to land but I will be eating that night. Probably almost all meat and a couple drinks though.

That sounds good! I'm going to try to keep my kcal controlled this weekend. Maybe I'll try to IIFYM this weekend.

I also like to use intermittent fasting as it opens the door for more calorie dense food choices without going over your calories for the day. Most of my meals are in the 600-800 calorie range some even higher.

Yeah, I like the idea of intermittent fasting, but I like the idea of better protein MPS with my meals spread out as well which is why I never do it. Although, there's a lot of people out there with great physiques eating OMAD so I don't really understand that. Are you still eating 1g per pound of bodyweight in one meal?

I don't normally do OMAD, I will typically have at least 2 meals and often 3. I normally do 16/8 fasting Lean Gains style. Sometimes I extend the fast to a 20/4 style. I am not usually that worried about 1g/lb when fasting in the 20/4 style. The hormonal set up is so optimum you don't lose any muscle mass during the fasting period. When it comes to cutting weight the data shows that fasting provides superior muscle retention over calorie restriction with 3-5 meals spread throughout the day. So it really just depends on the goal. Everything has a time and place. When trying to lean up I will take muscle and nitrogen retention over more frequent MPS stimulation considering over the time that style of dieting in a deficit is still going to result in less muscle retained. Now when bulking and trying to grow muscle I definitely believe stimulating MPS frequently is more beneficial to muscle gains. The data shows this as well.

Often on my build and burn days I do eat all day for the build days then fast for up to 20 hours on the burn days. This way I can get the best of both worlds which tends to provide some nice recomposition.

So your kcal on a daily basis is at maintenance or below?
Well I just started this new regiment which normally works best for me which is a steep deficit on my Burn days, then maintenance or a few hundred calories over on Build days. I maintained at 2500-2600 for a month so on build days I want to hit 2500-2800. Then on my burn days I will have anywhere around 1200-1700 calories usually. I do them basically every other day so that leaves me at a nice deficit overall but a surplus on the days I lift when I want to push growth. Since it is mostly carbohydrate increases on the build days it replenishes leptin to keep metabolism from slowing down, while sparing muscle tissue on the fasting days. Typically I would recommend smaller caloric swings until your body gets used to things, but it is also adjustable for total recomp instead of cutting by just changing the burn and build day to have less deficit, or a little more surplus on either day.

Gotcha. I'm going to implement something similar I think. Thanks.

Good Morning AM!

11/11/12 - Morning Weight 211.6

Nutrition -
Good numbers here, protein could have been higher and carbs a little lower but all in all these numbers are fine.

11/12/22 - Morning Weight 208.6
- Things are moving in the right direction now. Happy to see this trending downward. On the 10th after the last burn day it was 209.4 so almost a pound down.
BP has been normal with an average of 124/72 over last 3 measurements.
Resting Heart Rate last 3 average of 62 with this mornings being at 53!
I am absolutely getting in better shape and heart health is improving! That is a drop down from the 78-90 range since focusing on it.

We had a cold front come in and my shoulder is feeling it. Thinking at the gym today I will limit shoulder involvement to PT stuff and things to circulate the blood then basically do an arm workout. I bumped today's testosterone shot to 200mg to see if I can bring up estrogen a little as most of my joints are a little creaky at the moment but the shoulder is feeling the most since it is still sensitive and healing. Gotta love how long cartilage takes to heal. Also going to pick up some DHEA and maybe some pregnenolone. I have been on TRT for a long time without supplementing either of them.

I will be saving up some calories for tonight since I am going to my buddies birthday celebration. We are doing a poker night and he is the one who can really throw down on the pit. So going to make sure I have some calories left in the chamber so I don't go over too much. I don't want to reverse the progress this week.

Dermacrine is your best all in one DHEA preg option if you actually want to raise them. Oral is better for more conversion to estrogen.

How are the legs today ?

You gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em!!!!!

Cards and Calories
Amen to that!

This was my thought as well, so far other than that cold front having it's way with me nothing is worse the wear. Will see how I am feeling throughout the week if I feel I need a bit more estrogen or not.
Ha, and know when to walk away and know when to run.🤷🏻‍♂️
But what if you count your money while sitting at the table?
How are the legs today ?
They were good, I got a mild bit of DOMS but nothing to really speak about. I don't really get that sore much anymore. Only when I haven't worked something in a while or really push something I haven't but the days of me regularly whimpering as I walk down the hall after a good session are pretty much gone. Normally I can just feel that they are thrashed and exhausted but the DOMS aren't too bad.

As for this weekend's nutrition and workouts. I don't actually have any tracking for food from Saturday evening through yesterday. I could go in and put down estimates for food but the reality is it would just be guessing.

As planned Saturday ended with a Free Meal including pork loin, ribs, homemade tortillas, and a few drinks. Not even going to hazard a guess as to what that meal came out too.

Yesterday my son and I took the Flex out for an organized driving event and were gone all day. I fasted until noon, and then we ate somewhere that didn't have a ton of healthy choices so my first meal was an avacodo bison burger, and about 1/4 of the fries that came with it. Then dinner was beanless 93/7 beef chili with 2 servings of Oreida Fries. If I had to hazard a guess there I would put total calories between 1600-1800 calories. Not much in the way of water for the day though so with that and the extra salt, I held a lot of water.

11/14/22 - Morning Weight this morning was 215, I expect to see a big drop from this tomorrow. The interesting thing is that I was looking pretty darn lean and full this morning. I honestly was expecting to see around 210 with how tight I was looking in the abdomen area.

Saturday I pretty much did exactly what I said and went in and did my PT work, and then tossed in some curling and triceps work.

My shoulder is still bitching about the cold front, and that spot that got aggravated from the TRX work at therapy is still nagging a bit. So not doing any pushing with it other than PT work which went well today. I have my follow up with the Doc Friday to see what he thinks and if he is ready to unleash me on weights a little more. I half expect a yes and half expect to be told to hold off until that hotspot clears up a bit. I of course will do what he says.

As for the drive yesterday, it was perfect boost weather, cool and dry. We drove about 120 miles out into some great roads with twisties and no traffic and just let loose. It was funny me in the Flex keeping up with Porsches McClarens, Mustangs and other Type R souped up beasts through some hairy turns. Putting my all wheel drive to work. Pushed Sexy Flexy up to 140 in a straight stretch, fastest I have taken the Ecobeast so far, and he was still pulling. I would guess he has 160 in him for sure but I need to lower him before pushing that. One of the guys in a porsche was talking to me at one of the stops telling me he was almost getting frustrated. No matter how much he went hard into a turn he looked in the rearview and there was still a Flex right behind him. Said it was kind of surreal thinking that thing could handle through those turns like that. I told him well it is basically a top heavy SHO Taurus so it could handle pretty well.

It's funny even with the sunroof open in the cool air I was sweating pretty good. Driving like that really does take up a lot of energy. When I got home I went to bed right after I ate dinner. I was in bed with the lights out by 7PM!

Definitely lower it. The aerodynamic requirements at 160 compared to 140 are astounding; you start to really fight air and your horsepower begins to count for less and less with a suboptimal setup.

Besides, they look mean lowered !!

I never had a vehicle with turbos until this year. Now I have two, I bought a f350 turbo diesel. Ive already went in the motor pushing close to 618 mph.

I have the transmission set for high 3rd gear low 4th for them twin turbos to kick in and when they do it is a feeling I can't get enough of.

I got the new mustang eco boost this year too, got to drive it this past Saturday . That thing is just flat out nasty

Yeah they are fun and what you can get out of them with a tunes is unreal.

So I found out why I passed out at 7 and was sweating I had a fever. I have been down hard ended up leaving work early Monday and didn't come out of my room until yesterday. Upper respiratory infection took me out.

I didn't track food and didn't stick to my diet but don't think I ate enough to do any damage either. Plus fevers burn a lot of calories to keep you hot. So hopefully not too bad.

Not sure I am ready for cardio today, lungs are feeling a little bronchitis like so maybe a nice walk at lunch.

I forgot to weigh this morning so I don't have a reference point.

Rest up Kleen! These viruses lately just all seem to linger. The missus basically has felt under the weather for the past 2.5 weeks. Just won't seem to go away.

Yep. My family and I have been dealing with a cyclic cold/flu for a couple weeks. Almost gone then comes back hard.

Yeah, the cold and flu season hit quick and hard this year. Where I live we kind of went from Summer to Winter almost with no Fall. We were still hitting the high 80s to low 90s in September and then within a couple of weeks the lows were in the 30s , and now we’ve been in the 20s this week. That’s a recipe for a lot of sick people. Here I go rambling, just meant to say hope you feel better quick.😎

I sure hope that isn't the case for me, and hope she gets better soon.

Yeah it is.
Kick this gunk quick!
Doing my bestm even got a Z Pack to help kick it. Probably going to have her call me in another inhaler just to keep me from getting bronchitis.

I think this is probably the 3rd cycle of it. Sage has been down twice, and Jo spent a weekend in bed a week or two ago. We all got it this time. First time it got me I normally have a strong immune system except for my stomach issues but this one took me out.
Sorry to hear this ! :(

I blame it on the first year most of us are getting re-exposed to each other without masks or any sort of social distancing. You spend 2 years not fighting off anything and your immune system is going to be weaker. Just like not lifting for a while makes you weaker.

Now on to some good news!!!!!

I am officially free to lift weights!!!! He told me there are no exercises I can't do and just to feel everything out as I move forward. He said I should expect to have some joint soreness and tenderness but as long as it does not feel like I am reinjuring I can govern myself with my knowledge and experience. He said by 6 months post surgery I should not really be feeling any more soreness from the surgery but to expect it and manage it with ice and anti-inflammatories as needed in the meantime. Preferably more ice than NSAIDS obviously.

So now things are about to kick up a notch from only trying to get blood into the muscle to trying to regrow tissue. He did suggest most of my work be in the 15-20 rep range on the shoulder but I could push into lower 5-10 reps once a week without much to worry about. I will feel things out but planning to push more volume for growth for the most part.

Since it is go time and I am already on a little cycle I am turning up the heat this coming week. I increased my Testosterone dose to 280 a week on Sept 20, then added in 150mg EQ Oct 8th, and bumped to 400/200 last week so I have plenty of room to finish out the year on a reasonable cycle where I can rebuild while leaning up.

For now my thoughts are to run 400 Test / 200 EQ / 25 Tbol and may sprinkle in low doses of NPP to finish of this NPP I have at the house. I have caber on hand but will be grabbing some P5P to use first because it isn't a big dose.

I already have some good cycle support on hand that even has TUDCA, and plenty NAC that will get me through the end of the year as well, and if needed can double my Telmisartan dose temporarily. Although even with the current 400T/200Eq my BP is staying in normal ranges.

Anyway this is what I am thinking for the rest of the year which gives me another 2 months to have blood work squared away for my next physical in February. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
