KLEEN LIVING - A log about Life, Training, and Nutrition.

I had to race out to Academy at 10:00PM, got home then had to do the burn in, and let it cool down before putting up for the night. I started seasoning it first thing this morning.
no rest for the wicked! hope you have an extended time off from the office, the new machine looks awesome!! really makes me want to smoke something up this weekend!

Anyway, Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays if Christmas ain't your thing.

I still say Merry Christmas even if you are offended, no reason for me to think you should have a subpar 25th of December 😂 😂

I say both now, unless I know the person celebrates Christmas, it is Christmas for most people I speak to, so I say it, but I am also considerate enough to offer the Happy Holidays to others who may be celebrating something else. I think you can be inclusive while also sticking to your guns and saying what you mean. People don't have the right to tell me not to say Merry Christmas but after hearing that some people feel left out I have no problem adding the Happy Holidays to the mix to be more considerate.

Not totally related but for some reason I just thought of the movie Violent Night, have you seen that yet? I only saw the first 5 minutes and was cracking up... lol

No, but the previews look awesome. I like the guy who plays santa, he cracks me up, and Johnny Legz is always good.

On another note, I failed on my first cook yestyerday. FAILED to take a picture of the finished product that is!!!! Everyone loved it, and said it was the best I had done. The vertical smoker with insulation made a huge difference in ease of cook and temperature maintenance. The results were far better than with the old pellet grill / smoker. I actually can't wait to do a brisket in there later this year.

Merry Christmas Everyone! I just wanted to take a little time to tell you all how much I appreciate each and every one of you who comes into this log to share my life with me. Your support and friendship means more than you might know. So I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks, and let you all know I am grateful for the opportunity to share my life with all of you.

Merry Christmas and sounds like a great cook! Have a great day with family and friends

Merry Christmas….that meat looks delicious, and I’m sure it was worth all the challenges you had to overcome. 😎👍

Thanks Gentlemen!

I am still doing a bit of chilling, the end of the year. Core work and what not seem to be helping my lower back a bit. Anyway, I saw this while watching youtube and just wanted to share a lil AMSR for meat heads.

right on!! I didn't even think about that when you posted pics of the new one, but I think that's one of the things I really struggled with on my old traeger, zero insulation and thin metal so if you opened it for even 5 seconds to sneak a peak, or heaven forbid, apply a little spritz of something, you lose all the heat and have to rebuild basically. that insulation is probably a huge game changer

Yeah, I feel it made a huge difference.

Happy New Year everyone!

Well, my January just got chaotic. I will be posting a lot less this month. I am being sent to multiple offices for several days at a time. Had a project dumped in my lap that is going to take up a lot of time. So I will only be posting sporadically for the next 6-8 weeks. While I am going to focus on bodyweight stuff, lower back, and the like, I am not sure I will have access to everything for the calisthenics program I planned to do at all times. So, I will be doing what is more convenient to just get the workout done until things calm down. Other than that, just going to focus on leaning up during this time.

Yeah at least you can focus on what you eat without worrying about recovery from workouts so much. Good luck with everything!

Man definitely understand…..family and work or priority one. Hey, the good thing with body weight exercises is you don’t need any equipment, and they’re convenient.
Oh and Happy New Year 😎👍

Yeah. only a few things that I need a little something for. Biggest thing is a place for pull ups or other back work. I can do something pretty easily for everything else.
Happy New Years brother, enjoy the travels even if they are for work!
Thanks!!!!

I will do my best, pretty tight schedules while I will be out so we will see how much time I have to enjoy myself. I hope so, and also that it isn't too cold in Colorado when I head that way. I don't really own an appropriate winter coat for real winter weather. No need here.

you know it really seems like life has been unfolding exactly right for you because you made a hard push in BB, you competed FANTASTICALLY, did the work, and then took a break to figure out priorities and here you are grinding and making happen again in the job.

Had the job spiked like this while you were trying to get on stage it might have been a different story. Seems like 2026 is on the right track for you-

I am currently wearing shorts, sandals, tshirt. I have been all “winter” and no plans on stopping lol. Hottest winter I’ve experienced here in 40 years

Oh yeah if things had been this busy at work, and with all the travel I doubt I would have made it to the stage. I feel like this year will be a good year as well. I can't wait until the project is over so i can really focus more on fitness goals, but this will be a challenge to make some progress while not being able to settle into a routine.

Oh, I am sure I will, the paralegal on this one is a buddy I really enjoy hanging out with. He is a wild card, and will end up taking me somewhere very expensive for one dinner since he has a lot higher food allowances since charging directly to the client. Last time we went to a 5 Star spot and he dropped almost $500 on our meal and drinks. That was just the 2 of us.

Haha, look at you being all sexy with your toes out! LOL
we're jealous!! although I still would be $100 that we have snow around Superbowl time, thats more common for us. could be a lot too with this la nina weather we have

I am not jealous, I am enjoying the last 4 days in the 70-80 range. Yesterday and today was 79-80.

So, I had slightly failed on my goal to stay under 210 the whole time. After Christmas Eve dinner and the couple days after, I went over 210, but got back to 210 by the first. So, I am calling that a success. I am now weighing 203. Going to keep myself on track here. Kind of frustrated, seems pull ups are aggravating my injury a bit. So going to have to feel the whole body weight thing out. If it keeps causing an issue, I might roll back to light weights and just focus on rehabbing if I find that this does not start improving. I am not sure that picking something you have to have good scap control to do is the right approach for rehabbing it.

I didn’t even think about your injury and pull-ups. Yeah probably is smarter to back off those until it’s better.

Yeah, I have to be honest and say I was wrong to think body weight was a step down. With all of the control required for certain things it is more demanding when it comes to stability, not less. Plus I am limited to high intensity there due to my body weight. I can squeeze 8 out of a set but the next I am only good for 5, and if I am lucky another 4, or I can do 5-6 sets of 5 out of it. I am going to see if I can find time to squeeze into a chiro when I get back from Austin. See if they can do anything now that I have my FSA renewed. With some of the things in the family last year we ran through this money quickly and that limited my options on getting an MRI so we can at least see where the issue is and how to treat it more appropriately.

Either way, I am not as tight as I would like to be at this weight. So I need to find an activity that allows me to push the muscle without causing too many issues. I am so tired of the pain, tingles, stinging, and muscles being so inhibited, it feels they are unresponsive sometimes. Unfortunately the contractions on my right side are simply not as hard as on the left side. Pretty much from the right scap, up and over into the arm. It is definitely a nerve issue.

Most importantly, I am not going to give up, sometimes it is hard to find traction, but then you have a choice. Get out of the car, or keep spinning the wheels until you get some traction. I am going to keep the wheel spinning.

I busted out my old Slastix Resistance Battle ropes last night and did a complex with them for about 30 minutes, then did a little work on the TRX. It ended up being a resistance based HIIT session. Not feeling any worse for the wear today, so that is awesome. The resistance battle ropes are about 15ft each but stretch to about 20ish and both have up to 150lbs of resistance pulling back on you. So it makes battle rope effort a true battle. Plus you can do rowing, pushing, leg stuff all of that with resistance. So if you want a move a little heavier, you just step back a little more and if you start getting tired a half step forward will get you a more reps. I think bringing these into the mix again will be good. I could really feel it working my lower back well resisting against the movement of the ropes during rope slams, and rope rows. So I think this could be a benefit to the lower back that isn't too much but definitely improves stability.

Man I hope the Chiropractor can give you some relief, because I know it’s rough. My Chiropractor does great for me. I probably should go more, but I usually just use him when something feels out of place. It always kind of freaks me out a little when he cracks the neck, but always helps. Good move busting out the Battle Ropes, and getting some work in.

Yeah, I for sure need to go, not only am I dealing with that, but I am stuck in that messed up gate where it feels like I am stepping into a hole every time on the right side. So I know my hip is all out of whack. It is going to need to be adjusted for sure. I really have to focus on internal rotation on my right hip and step close enough my adductors rub halfway down my thighs to avoid it right now. The good news is my adductors are still big enough to rub halfway down my thigh after being so limited with training. :) Silver linings right!

I am going to be heading out in a few hours, driving to the Austin office and will be there through Wednesday. They have a good gym in the hotel from the listing one of the best. I saw free weights and a smith machine, cardio, functional fitness stuff, a heavy bag, medicine balls, and an exercise trampoline. If I can't find a way to do something there I have a problem. :)

I am just in the keep doing something mode right now for the next 6 weeks at least. Hopefully I will have found a way to train during that time that allows consistency, and some progress, because lack of progress is becoming frustrating. Since having something messing with both upper and lower body, I can't seem to get any traction before something is lighting me up again. So, my focus for improvement is obviously going to have to go toward body composition for a little bit.

I haven't been to Austin in years, I can't wait to get back down there someday. although the biggest struggle I had whenever I was in Austin was finding anything GREEN to eat 😂 😂

Haha, you would not have any trouble now. So many vagins around here, all these flower eating fuggers up in this place! Now of course, at a BBQ spot, the potatoes are the veggies.... ;)
Can you imagine being steered around by ropes tied to piercings in your nostrils? Seems a lot like a relationship with a toxic woman eh?

Well it has been chaotic up here. I touched the gym the night I got in and did a few sets of a few thngs just to feel the place out. I haven't had time to do anything real since then. Got back to the hotel at about 8 last night, and was asleep by 9:00. I spent the whole 14.5 hours on my feet, and everything was aching by the time I got home. I am hoping to get out of here relatively reasonable time today, and be able to go the the gym today. At least I got sleep last night. I was running on about 4 hours of sleep yesterday. I woke up about 3:00AM and couldn't pass back out thinking about the project.

Me too, I needed that sleep. Normally I love to walk around, but I was fighting to stay awake until the room service got to me. I did try to make myself go, but my wife asked me what I thought I was doing. She was like Babe, you are so tired you aren't even holding your head up, just eat and get some sleep. She was right, I was all loose necked like a new born talking to her with my head just basically resting on my trap. LOL

I'm gonna assume that was an intentional typo 😂

or one hell of a friday night
Oh yeah, totally intentional. :)

I think I would prefer to hold the reigns in that situation.

I got in a nice little session in the gym here last night. Scap and trap were a lil bitchy, but I worked around it to get 5 sets of incline, 5 sets of pull downs, 4 sets of leg press, and 3 sets of hanging leg raises to failure. Nothing too amazing, but a kind of full body session in the books. :) I was surprised how quickly I ran out of steam, but I have been balls out for the last few days, so it makes sense.

I have kept diet pretty decent, but did have some Napoletana Pizza last night. I am not sure of weight, but I don't think I have caused much damage if any at all while here. I have only had 1-2 meals a day and most of them have not been massive. I am sure i am weighing a little more today after the pizza, but we all know how transient carb and salt weight is considering it is basically water weight.

I will be heading home tonight, and picking back up on everything including a more controlled and prepped diet as of tomorrow.

Hope you’re doing well, but if you’re not I’d like to hear from you even more! You have my email and can PM anytime.

Glad you were able to get a good workout in. That was a good way to finish up and cap off the trip. Safe travels tomorrow.💪😎👍

@Hyde - Thanks brother!

Sorry for the disappearing act, life and work have been wild since my last post. On top of all my project travel we poached a very large group of attorneys from another big firm, and I have only been home 3-4 days the last month with bringing them all in. It was a top secret hostile takeover kind of situation where we pulled the managing partner and his entire group from another firm. Working ridiculous hours, and haven't really had the time to workout much at all. Still forcing once a week, sometimes 2 if I am lucky, but that is it. Diet has not been great, and I have no idea how much I weigh. I have been doing 1-2 meals a day but they haven't exactly been healthy. I think this week should be my last week at a break neck pace but I may have to come back out here to bring on the 2nd half of this group in a couple weeks. I am hoping for a solid month to get myself settled into training 3-4 times a week. I can't or shouldn't complain, I made about 25% more than my salary this last year with all of the OT, and I am on a similar trajectory at the moment. It is at a time when it is needed so I need to be grateful for the opportunity, but I need some down time to get myself back into a routine of some sort, and definitely need to fix my food intake. Being home a while will be a huge help there.

I have been writing this dang post since Monday morning, and am just now able to finish it. LOL

Cool story, the 2nd partner in charge of this new group is a celebrity attorney, and has an over a million dollar art collection they brought over. They just went and ripped them off the wall of the other firm and left them with wholes in the walls. HUGE pictures some of them 8-9 feet wide. He also has a real Batman suit made by the actually DC team that made them for the movie. His wife bought for him as a gift, had it made for him to his size. It is literally bullet proof made with kevlar. Crazy the amount of access these guys have at this level. He told me he is good friends with my namesake, and showed me pictured of him Chris Tucker and his kids hanging out for the day at some park. He has a story about taking George Clooney out to eat, and the restaurant wasn't too busy so he apologized and told George they could go somewhere else, and George leans in and says you have no idea what is about to happen here do you. Within 15 minutes the whole restaurant was full just from workers and paparazzi letting people know George was there. Kind of wild. The other guy is Mark Cuban's attorney, and has all kinds of stories. So it is pretty cool, and the guy who works with all of the stars likes to tell his stories. So it makes working with him interesting.

Cool story.

Yeah, I figured your work was keeping you busy, with the way you described it at the first of the year. Man, glad work is going to well…… that’s really cool about the new attorneys, especially the high profile ones, that like to entertain.😜

Glad your doing well and that's pretty fukin cool too!
Thanks, and yeah this is the first time we had some people come in that were major celebrity style attorneys. Most people the stories aren't too interesting but these are.
Cool story.
Hokie! What's up Brother!

Oh yeah, I kind of figured you all would kind of suspect that it was work related with the warning of chaos to come at the new year.
this cracked me up! its like taking a dump on the bosses desk on your way out 😂 😂
glad you are doing well!
Facts, when I heard one of the attorneys talking about how the other firm looks like the business shut down since all the art was gone and nothing but holes in the walls. This specific office had about 80 attorneys, and we took 35 of their best, and left them with holes in the walls. Now that is brutal. That firm is going to be trying to make up for this loss for a while. They were a big firm too, but about 700 less attorneys, well 735 less now... :)

They have some super cool pictures, a lot of cool black and white art from this super well known photographer. My understanding is that no picture was less than 20,000, and some much higher. I took a walk around the floor and took a few pics of them just to show some of my favorites to you all.

I am supposed to be leaving Dallas around Noon, and am just trying to finish up a couple things but got the big stuff out of the way already by working later last night to ensure i could leave early today and get home to see my wife and kids. My wife and i both are ready for me to be home. Even my kids as adult as they are, are feeling my absence, and I am definitely feeling theirs. The wife said my dog is just moping around and every time he hears a louder v6 exhaust he does this sighing whine when he sees I am not in the driveway. He is gonna be so pathetic and clingy when I get home. LOL

I knew you all would love to see the Tombstone art!!! It is about 7 feet across

This tiger is definitely one of my favorites, it is about 8 foot wide. I couldn't take direct on shots because of the glare with some of these. So they lose a lot of the cool factor, but they are super impressive in real life.

This wolf on the bar is another favorite, it is about 8 feet wide too and no matter where you go that wolf's eyes and head follow you like you are being hunted. You can even see it in this small of a picture.

This is another 6-7 foot wide pieces, you really miss a lot of detail with me having to shoot from the side due to the glare but a super cool pic.

This one is another favorite, the intensity in this guys face when looking head on is awesome like he is running from the plane.

Some of you older guys will know who this is right away! This print dates back to before plotter printers could print wide enough, so it had to be printed in 2 sections. You can see the line going across the middle where it is separating from age. Super cool historical piece.

This one is definitely a favorite, if you know, you know... If you don't, what have you been doing with your life. LOL Such a cool pic the way the smoke trails up with such high contract in the developing.

Like I mentioned nothing in this collection was less than $20,000 per pic. My personal favorite still has not been hung. They need to get special hardware to hang it. It is an amazingly artistic shot of Dallas with the Dallas Cowgirls on one lower corner of it, A cowboy and several longhorns, and in the background the skyline rises to a partly cloudy sky with silver linings in the clouds and the exposure, and contrast is amazing. Unfortunately when they couldn't hang it yet they covered it so i can't take a picture of it until my next trip.

Okay there is you cultural exposure for the day. LOL

awesome pictures! loved the bit about your dog lol. My new little cattle dog turns 1yr old here in a week and it cracks me up how she has to lay ON ME all the time. but I guess thats what I wanted and why I got a dog and not a cat haha.

Michael Cain, gotta love him!

Thanks, and yeah this is the first time we had some people come in that were major celebrity style attorneys. Most people the stories aren't too interesting but these are.

Hokie! What's up Brother!

Oh yeah, I kind of figured you all would kind of suspect that it was work related with the warning of chaos to come at the new year.

Those are some really cool pictures…. I really love the animal ones, and the one with Steve McQueen punching is really cool…..he was actually one of Bruce Lee’s top students in Jeet Kune Do, which I’m sure you knew that. I bought my wife a $2000 painting, and that felt a little crazy to me, but man I couldn’t imagine $20000, that’s wild.😎

Daaaaang! That’s a hell of a story! I really need that Tombstone pic in my house lol. Glad you are making waves and making money! It seems hardest to find the balance money/muscle in this day and age, but we make it work.
