KLEEN LIVING - A log about Life, Training, and Nutrition.

first thing I always notice in older men is the atrophy in the shoulders and arms. I got two buddies pushing 70 now, one on TRT and still hitting the gym. he's got a belly but shoulders are jacked. the other one no TRT and retired this past winter, already looks like he's lost 20lbs of the wrong kinda weight. But, he's smiling. so silver linings.
Sir, it is a power belly.

@MrKleen73 I have not, but my brother has a few times and loves it. Always heard great things & it’s still the Emerald Coast - the sand and water look identical really in that region. I don’t think they played with the color at all - the water definitely can look like that depending on exact location and time of year (the green comes from the variation in algae growth I believe with different temps). I have seen it that way in Destin and Fort Walton, especially winter, but also more green in warmer months and the further west you go. The colors can be truly wild.

There is a Gold’s Gym Destin I went to with a great selection of equipment you can just drop into for a daypass, which is showing about 45-50 minutes West of Panama City Beach and about 20 minutes before you would hit the Donut Hole (since the gym is basically at the eastern edge of Destin & Donut Hole is right in the touristy part).

Not so say there’s nothing great in Panama, but if you are training in Destin.
Oh, I found a pretty nice gym there in Panama City Beach called Fitness 360, they had great equipment, free weights out the wazoo, a section for powerlifting, and many top end brand machines. It was very nice, I will upload some pics of it later. Pretty busy first day back in the office. So no time for it right now.
Wow, the place you're going looks awesome Kleen! Enjoy yourselves.

Agree with Dustin here, I think you and maybe lifters would notice, but to the untrained eye probably not. Don't worry too much about it here.
For sure. I had a blast and got my ego stroked a good bit while out there.
Fuggin jacked sir!
WooHoo!!!! Thank you Sir!
personal thought and random opinion but I think the way we mature and our structure seems to change, that looking jacked at 50 looks 10x better than the same amount of muscle on our frame at 20, IMO. It's more alpha too. everyone looks the same under 30. Jacked at 50 is a status.
Yeah, part of it is that the skin gets thinner so things show up a little better even when not super lean the shoulders and arms have a leaner look to them. So someone can look more impressive in clothing and a belly at that age.
100%
Shows decades of consistent hard work
Facts!

Yeah, but imagine how much more he would be smiling being jacked!

So, a quick recap of the trip. We did a lot of touristy things this time around. Shopping, lots of food, Sunset Sail Boat tour, a few hours of gocart racing, hours of time on the beach, and the highlight of the trip was a 4 hour jet ski rental where we were allowed to just sail off into the gulf on a jet ski as long as we were back within the 4 hour window. It was a 300 dollar package and was worth every penny. We easily went out over a mile or two into the gulf. We found and tracked a large school of bottle nose dolphins probably about 20-30 of them for about 30 minutes. Just watching them steadily breaking the surface, sometimes following us in our wake, sometimes swimming right under us. It was so cool to have that experience for about 30 minutes. Just trailing along with a school of dolphins. It was so peaceful, and a beautiful experience. Of course we did some high speed wave jumping too while out there, because, UHM SPEED JUNKY!!!!. I got that bad boy up to 46mph and at one point I swear we were 6-8 feet in the air. Jumped from one wave onto the top of another and just launched. Both Jo and I were completely in the air being held on the jet ski by me holding onto the handlebars only on that one. LOL We probably looked like trick riders with the only thing touching the jet ski being my hands on the handle bars.

I also got stopped multiple times by young bucks on the beach asking me how I got so jacked and telling me I looked awesome which was great for the old ego. Lots of attention from 35+ females on the beach too. I don't know about the younger ones. I don't maintain eye contact with younger women any more. Too many "I am a 10, and he is a creepy old man" types out there nowadays. I don't have time for that mindset at this point in my life. If they check me out I would have no clue unless they were super obvious about it.

I will post up some pics a little later from the trip. It was truly beautiful out there.

Man it sounds like you guys had a great time…glad you enjoyed. I figured you would get some comments about being jacked, and that you wouldn’t have too much competition at the beach.💪 That’s a cool story about your jet ski adventure…we love jet skis too. My middle son owns a couple, and we go to the lake about once or twice a month to ride them, while my wife and daughter in law kick back on the beach and chat. Truthfully I think he bought the second one so I would have one to ride too when we go, because my daughter in law said me and my oldest grandson are the only ones to ride that one, because she’s scared of them….but we’ve never took them to the ocean…. I know that would be a blast.😎👍

Oh yeah, I have done them in lakes and they are tons of fun, especially when you start wake jumping from boats passing by. However the waves were another animal. It was so much fun.

I bet he did, I would prbably want 2 if i were getting them so I could have someone else out there to play with. Honestly, I am thinking about maybe purchasing one or two of them as a toy this winter when prices drop. I have lakes close enough to go out and play once or twice a month during the summer months. One thing i did have an issue with while riding was my thumb, index, and middle finger kept going completely numb on me. It got to the point I could only feel pins and needles in my fingers, and it would get hard to maintain speed, then would have to rest for a few minutes, shake it out a bit then get going again. Just the leaned forward position with the arms stretched out put me in the position that bothers my neck. That being said, it did not get in the way of my fun!!! As with everything in life after 50, it is about learning your limits, and testing them when you can to make sure you are getting the most out of life. I am happy to say my limits are still well within the fun zone!!!!

One thing that did happen that was wild was I got attacked by the jet ski. LMFAO!!! We beached the jet ski on Shell Island, and had to use the sand bags to anchor the jet ski, but the waves were pushing it around a bit. At one point a big wave came up while Jo was holding onto the jetski and i was about 6 feet closer to the shore. The wave hit her so hard it jerked the jet ski out of her grasp and the whole jet ski came barreling at me on top of that wave. Thank goodness I trained MMA because I instinctively braced for a leg kick. and took the full 800lbs of jet ski directly to my outer quad like a champ!!! However it was coming down with the wave and when it hit me it powerslammed me down into the ground about 6 feet from where it hit me. I landed right on my tailbone and bruised it pretty good. So dealing with that, we still had 2 hours of time left at this point, and I said f it, I am going to just keep playing hard until it hurts bad enough that i want to stop. We finished out the 4 hours, and although I am bruised, I am okay, and wouldn't have traded the experience to avoid the bruising.

Glad you didn’t get hurt when it slammed into you. Yeah the waves in the ocean are definitely a different animal with a jet ski compared to the lake. Since you are close to some lakes, you should definitely try to get one….Big Boys Toys for the win.😎👍

dude what an awesome trip! Love the tourist trap stuff and I'm fully on board with the jetskis. 😂 😂 you buying two of those might be the catalyst I need to buy a plane ticket down to texas haha. I'm already building a mental itinerary, bro sesh, bbq, and jetskis 😂

amen lol. my ideal woman has a kink for bodyhair and a heavy scale and can't differentiate between fat and muscle cause big is big. 😂

Sounds like a great time! We’ve taken sunset cruises down there and it’s really nice, as well as daytime dolphin cruises - it’s wild to watch them play right alongside the boat next to you! It really is relaxing.

Yeah me too, any harder of a landing on the beach and i would have been wrecked and the drive home would have been excruciating. The way i figured it, I already did the damage so I might as well finish having the fun. Thank goodness, I am just a bit sore from it now. Just tender enough to let me know it is there when standing up or sitting down.

Sounds like a good reason to get 2 of them then!!! If you ever do come down here and have it planned maybe we can make a mini-vacation out of it while you are here. Head to Austin, or San Antonio to show you the city and some cool experiences there. Make a couples weekend out of it or something.

Yeah, that was definitely the highlight. I love nature and animals. So I was loving that whole experience. Was such a calming and serene experience.

All in all the vacation was the one i needed. I allowed myself to just enjoy things and not stress over the money. Be more about the experiences which is what life is all about. We have had a rough couple of years and deserved to spoil ourselves. Will just be tight for a a couple months while catching back up with the spend.

Had a nice little chest, shoulder and back session last night, going to be heading out for the airport here shortly for another business trip. Heading to Silicon Valley this time. I should be back Wednesday afternoon. It is project work, so not exactly sure how much I will get to the gym if at all. Even if not there will be a lot of steps, and some additional walking. One good thing about Palo Alto, at least last time i was there, is that it is a pretty nice, safe and walkable area. My hotel is about a half mile from the office so I plan to walk in and back each day as well. As long as the weather holds up which is likely in that area. I plan to do fasting until mid-afternoon if it looks like I will be able to get to the gym, and if not will likely just opt for one large and enjoyable meal with as much protein as I can justify spending money on for dinner. I get around 100 a day for food so I think I should be able to squeeze out some decent protein even at California prices.

My boss told me the other day that I am doing really well and getting a lot of recognition for doing this across so many offices this year. This will be my forth one, and I have 2 more offices but at least there is a window of downtime where they are doing other offices out of our area. Thus far I am only tagged for 6 out of 7 of my bosses offices. However, some people are talking to my boss to see if he can share me as a resource to their teams since I have helped the process become so much more efficient. The main vendor over this project keeps requesting I be on other offices, but me being out does put a lot of stress on the rest of the team. I also do so many things the other techs have no clue I do outside of regular support tickets. So there is always a catchup period any time I am traveling. Thusly, I am ready for a good 6 weeks at home which is about what I should get before the next office goes. Then just one more in September in Austin. Hopefully we get a little down time on trial setups during that period, so that I am not spread this thin all year. I may just let one slip to someone else if not. I am already on the way to a nice bonus, and a good raise. So, I am not super worried about it.

Fasted Weight this morning was 205.3, and abs have tightened back up a lot since the end of vacation. I am pretty happy about that. I would say they are very close if not the same as when I left, but weight is higher due to having more carbs in my system. As long as I keep my crap together, I should look the same or better when I get home, even if I can't get to the gym.

Dude that's hillarious you would say that, I sent you a dm before I read this suggesting something similar lol. My wife has never been to TX so I had pitched the idea to her of maybe starting in Houston then running up to Austin and San Antonio because the only vision she has in her mind of TX is the River Walk, and for me I'd really love to introduce her to Austin, 6th, and maybe try to hit Joe Rogans comedy club which is also on 6th....

Maybe you are gaining some benefit of pyramiding, going from a brief surplus back to maintenance, + decreased cortisol after a nice vacation deload?

Awesome, I noticed it there yesterday but it was too busy of a day for me to notice. Travel ended up being a long drawn out day. When I reserved my flight the time counter on the site didn't account for the time zone changes for some reason and said my total travel time was 2 hours less, then we had a delay at my connection. Then they put me in a messed up room, and I had to have them move me, it was a mess. I was after midnight here in Cali by the time I got to bed, but I got a solid 5 hours and am gonna run off of coffee and adrenalin today. ;)

I would definitely be down for that, but to go to the Mothership, we need to make a solid plan. You have to buy tickets well in advance from my understanding. It is the only reason I haven't been there yet. Especially Kill Tony, and I hear the Roast Battle is pretty hard to get into too.

Could be, or just full enough to fill the skin out and tighten things up a little, but a lot of it was water, I have zero doubts I touched and probably crossed the 210 barrier on vacation if not 212. I was a big bear of a thick man by the time we left.

My hotel The Sheraton Palo Alto is really nice, got a nice 1st level room with a king bed, separate living area and a terrace looking out over a small manmade pond / stream that runs through the property with all kinds of landscaping around it. So I have a nice sitting space outside too which is awesome for winding down after work. Only $253 so that was a nice surprise it was that cheap.

I guess Delta cancelled like 900 flights this weekend so my buddy/co-worker is stuck in MA for one more day lol. hopefully you weren't wrapped up in that mess at all.

This thing has potential! we need to get through the 4th of July and some home projects but I'm certain she and I will be looking for an early winter trip south. I mean I could be any time between Nov-Jan or something but I'll keep you in the loop!

man that's always such a nice treat when travelling for work and you end up with a good spot. I've gone as cheap as a motel in South Carolina with bars on the windows, lol. But the Elarga in Vegas was one of my favorites. its like a timeshare style hotel about 100 yards off the strip with 1bdrm, kitchen, etc so it was practically like having a high rise condo vrbo for a week for half the price of the strip hotels, and a nice quiet place to hide from the noise when I had enough of Vegas lol

When you get requests for your work outside of your normal support tickets, that speaks volumes to your supervisor on your value to the company. I am one that can absolutely appreciate that. We have our corporate offices and plants here in Georgia, and we have one in Houston, Arizona, Indiana, and numerous warehouses around the US, and I program the different CNC machines from my desk in Georgia, and when we get new machinists I do their final training and certification, but I have one guy when there are any issues that I request when I have a help desk ticket, and it’s because he is so good and efficient, and gets me back up quickly, because I can’t afford any down time. So believe me not only is your boss appreciative, those you are helping are, especially since they request you. 😎👍

Absolutely, i think being willing to accept tasks and then taking ownership of them is just the way it should be.

I have been looking around and I have to say that Palo Alto sucks for gyms. Everything here is a personal training studio. I guess that is the way in affluent areas out here. The closest real gym is a 20 minute uber ride both ways, so not sure if I will make it over there or not. Might just be walking and some push ups while I am out here. We will see. Also strange thing but out here when you search for gyms only local gyms come up. You have to look specifically for the name of a major chain to even get them in the search results. That is pretty odd to me!

That’s because California, and especially Silicon Valley, sucks ass. An incredible state, ruined by many of its inhabitants. Every time I’ve been (Long Beach, San Diego, San Francisco), I think how wonderful it would be without all the crazies, politicians, homeless drug addicts, and nut jobs everywhere.

we are california junior and I agree with the sentiment. in our home town you can spend close to $200/month for an xfit gym, or $350 for a semi personal training gym, or my buddy was spending like $750/month for his gym (with trainer, what? for why? he was not competing, just retired and prefers running anyways).

so I drive 20 minutes for $40/month to have access to seven million LA Fitness clubs. I mean it's not the best but the yoga pants are plentiful and the barbells well maintained.

Yep, you can keep California…..it has definitely been ruined, especially since COVID and their suck ass governor. I’m like Hyde beautiful state with the landscape and ocean, but too many nut jobs.

Yeah, my wife lived there and used to tell me she dreamed of living there again. I told her maybe you can if you ever leave me. Then we went back and she was like Yeah, I would rather just visit.

Yeah they are over taxed, crazy cost of living, and they have cut out so much of the budget for the police and fire departments, that many times they are so overwhelmed that they are unable to respond in a timely manner. And it’s not their fault, it’s the left wing politicians. The whole reason those fires in January got out of hand was they were running the water out into the ocean that should have went to the reservoirs, to protect a fish that really wasn’t endangered. So they ran out of water, and so many people lost their homes and businesses….really sad. Sorry didn’t mean to rant…it just gets to me every time I see that Governor Newsom get on TV and act like he has done so much, but in reality he just let his people down….crap, I did it again, sorry.🤷🏻‍♂️

Hey to be fair, WA state is the only state with higher gas prices today than a year ago. Last week we were like $1.40 over the national avg and today July 1, our taxes increase again.

Grok summary, but I think its actually missing something I can't remember.
state excise tax = $.554
federal tax = $.184
Co2 tax = $.46
additional state fees = $.0298
total yesterday = $1.2278
today we add I think another $.06.

they had to let all the Diddy evidence burn...

Haha, on my way home last night I kept seeing these Anti-Palantir / Anti-Ice posters. All od them saying people were abducted by ICE via the Palantir AI Software. It made me so proud to know Palantir is currently responsible for about 30-40% of my 401k's growth. Some saying 9 year old American's were deported because they left with their parents when the parents got deported. That is not deporting it is just not separating families. Honestly, I wanted to rip them down or write YAY! or YIPPIE!!!! However, I have a feeling that somehow could be a crime even though posting them there was for sure.

I am a live and let live kind of guy. However, not when it comes to how my tax dollars are spent, or people being here illegally making use of them. Don't get me wrong, I am not heartless, these people have families and everything. Some have been here forever and built a life. I see the humanity in it, but if you have been here for 20-30 years and haven't found a way to become legal or even tried, then that is on you, and you caused your family the problems, not the government.

they had to let all the Diddy evidence burn...
Let it BURN! LMAO! Diddy Do It? Yeah, he did!

I forced a quick full body session last night. Nothing more than a very light weight complex of Incline DB Press, DB Squats, DB bent over Rows, DB Curls, DB Overhead Extensions, and DB Side Raises. I ran through it 3 times for 20 reps per exercise, with about a minute or two of rest in between complexes. I was breathing like a freight train, pumped, and insulin sensitive before having a nice 12 Oz strip steak with some quinoa with veggies in it, and some sort of savory sauce. It was excellent!

I got home around 3:00 PM yesterday, and although I had hoped to go to the gym, it was not meant to be. The 4 days of 4 hours of sleep took their toll no sooner than I got to the house and the comfort of home set in. I slept until about 6:00 when the wife got home and then woke up, ate dinner, and spent some time with her before passing back out again.

I will get a session in today. Also going to start looking for, or planning a basic plan of attack to address some weaknesses while leaning up a bit more. Unfortunately, I have too many ideas floating around this head of mine. So I need to put a basic outline on paper. Figure out what approach I think will best serve me right now. Contemplating a mix of weights, and calisthenics for a bit. See if I can strengthen some of my weaker areas that have been neglected for a couple of years. Basic body control, stabilizing strength, and mobility definitely need to be incorporated. I want to have my body ready for action again, rather than just looking ready for action.

Now that the shoulder is a little better, I think I am going to start using my VR to get some cardio / activity in. Play some fighting, and musical based games that require a lot of fast explosive movement. Make cardio a bit more fun. I have a few boxing games then things like Synth Rider, and Beat Saber that require a lot of energy and can leave your drenched after 30-60 minutes of all out playing.

which VR system do you have?
I had tried one years ago that made me sick as a dog in about 2 minutes. then I tried my boys occulus and that was pretty awesome but I never got into it. if I get any gaming in at all these days I just play a couple rounds of fortnite but its rare.

although my wife is on board with a guitar hero setup, lol.

I have the Occulus 2 I think. Yeah VR takes a little bit to get used to, but the more you use it the disorientation goes away. I don't play anything that isn't physical on them. I know people do first person shooters and all of that stuff, but I use it for a fun cardio, and something I can play with my son while he is 30 miles away in another city. The fact you all could compete might just be fun enough that you want to do it. Honestly, if you like music, or dancing the Synthrider is so much fun. So is Beat Saber!!! The boxing games are awesome, and super intense. You feel like you are fighting, you get the fight or flight response and get yourself nice and winded too. I am always super sweaty after a session, like water dripping from the bottom of my shirt soaked.

1 bottle of Tren Ace is 20mg/day for a 50 day cut, just saying 😝
That would do the trick! I had a buddy who used 25mg daily for all of his cuts. He swore by it, just enough to do the job, and keep the sides at bay. At least for him anyways.

I just got back from my walk for lunch. Nice little walk for an hour up the ramps in the parking garage. Should burn a little more than my regular walks even though there are some inclines on the regular walk this is all uphill outside of taking the stairs back down 3 times just to walk back up. I walked up total of 36 stories in that time.

When I get home I will break my fast, with a high protein, high carb, low to moderate fat meal. Spend a little time setting up a program or finding one I would like to try. Then hit the weights about 60-90 minutes later with an intra drink with about 50-75 grams of carbs, 20g EEAS, and 10-20g of L Glutamine. Between the meal, intra drink, and my pre-workout, I should have plenty of energy for my session.

I am having an Alani Juicy Peach energy drink now, and am getting ready to go lift. Yesterday's gym session was a bust, life commitments got in the way. At least I got in my cardio, and kept intake in a deficit. So not a total wash. I continue to tighten up since getting back from vacation. I will start actually tracking weight again this week, and make more of a concerted effort toward my goals. Just had to recover from vaca and then a work trip. My bruised tailbone is getting a bit better but still an issue. Benches hurt it unless they have a space between the bottom and the back pad. Unfortunately the travel seemed to have made it lose a little ground. Airplane seats suck azz!

On a much better note, my son's fiancé was finally able to move here from the Phillipines. After 4 years of work doing it the right way. They will be getting married very soon, they had 90 days from when she arrived to do it. So it has to be soon. They are being smart and giving it some time to live together before they tie the knot. So it will be close to the end of the 90 days for sure. Anyway, we want her first Independence Day to be a big deal, so we are taking her down to the Freedom Over Texas Festival in downtown Houston. It is a huge Independence Day festival starting at 4:00-11:00PM with live bands, music synchronized fireworks, and probably a drone show, they did one last year. Since I work downtown we can park in my garage and walk over which is nice, it is actually where I go when i take my walks for lunch. What is good is if it is too hot or rained we can go back to my office and watch from one of the conference rooms. :)

Happy Independence Day Everyone!!!! We are all lucky to live in this great country, so I hope you all truly enjoy celebrating our freedom!

Wishing him luck with everything! That’s going to be a nerve wracking 3 months for sure, with a clock always ticking.

Happy Independence Day, and congratulations to your son and his future bride…. a huge good old American Independence Day fireworks celebration is just the way to welcome her to America.🇺🇸

Alani Nu makes some good flavors for sure. I like juicy peach, but cherry slush is probably my favorite. I actually just got targeted for a new company that does mix and match cases of energy drinks.

Congrats to your son and the addition of a daughter in law to your family!

Hope you had a great 4th celebration.

I like it dude, sounds like the iron is heating up and about ready to strike.
I hope that tailbone issue mends it self sooner than later, I know those can be a real pain in the butt!

Remember the goal is to potentiate the day’s training & help prevent injury. If it’s negatively affecting your real work, or if you don’t feel you need it, cut it! Don’t be afraid to modify or change on the fly. Sometimes I can tell something needs a little extra, or something else is good to go & would be a waste of time/energy. Short & sweet is ideal.
Agreed, I had a wild weekend and crappy couple of days this week. No gym so far. I have kept my calories low, and have not really lost any ground on fat loss, possibly even made some headway. Lots of activity the last several days.

I was 200.2 this morning so I have lost 5 lbs in the last week. Some of it was probably glycogen, but I think I have lost a little fat too.
Wishing him luck with everything! That’s going to be a nerve wracking 3 months for sure, with a clock always ticking.
Absolutely, so far things seem to be going really well. Like I said before he has spent 6-8 weeks with her on several occasions over the past 4-5 years. Since he is a coder he can do it from anywhere so he was doing 2-3 6-8 week trips a year for a while. So they have lived together before. America is massively different than the Philippines, and she seems to love it here. They are so cute together, you can tell they adore each other which is awesome, and so nice to see him happy like that.
Happy Independence Day, and congratulations to your son and his future bride…. a huge good old American Independence Day fireworks celebration is just the way to welcome her to America.🇺🇸
Thanks, and agreed! She loved it, and even got to eat some of our food truck food which is awesome food.

Yeah, my daughter gets the variety pack or whatever it is and it comes with a few peach. She gives them to me, and it is one of the best peach drinks I have had. I like the cherry slush too. Both taste pretty good and 200 is a nice shot of caffeine. Our celebration was awesome!!!

It was trying but got derailed with some auto issues, then a home AC issue. Today is my first day back at work, but I still have work to do at home so if I don't make it to the gym at lunch, I am not sure I will get in there today.
I hope you and your family stayed safe during all the flooding in Texas.🙏
Yes Sir, no issues there thank goodness. I already had my hands full. I have been working on cars since Saturday. I have 2 cars down at my house and 3 people who have to get to work from the 1 running vehicle. Well, I should say that was the case. I basically had to redo the whole cooling system in Jo's 350z, as well as work on and troubleshoot my daughters jeep. Once it became obvious that her jeep has a blown head gasket as expected and we simply could not afford to repair it, I put it back together and decided it was time to say F-It and try some Blue Devil Head Gasket Repair. It was either that or sell it to a junk yard. Once we did that I also found out that the fan isn't turning on at normal operating temps either. However the Blue Devil did seem to seal the head gasket. I ran it for a couple hours total and it didn't overheat. So I am hoping we can get another 6-12 months out of her car with it like this. Then she can buy her own car when she is ready, trade this one in for pennies, but still get a better rate with a trade in.

Unfortunately, I have not managed to come to the exact workout plan, but I am coming up with it. I am thinking about 3 days a week lifting, and 2-3 days of doing something that will help with movement, flexibility, and coordination. I am considering looking into some form of "Flow training" to help with those things. It looks to be fun, active, and like it will help strengthen my body in all the ways it got weaker over the last 3 years of only linier movement training.

What it may look like is something like
Day 1 - Upper Push + Biceps & medial delts
Day 2 - Flow training
Day 3 - Lower Body - Rear Delts & Abs
Day 4 - Flow Training
Day 5 - Upper Pull + Triceps & Medial Delts
Day 6 & 7 - off, or whatever I feel like doing.

I am also considering adding in 50-100 push ups, lunges, and maybe some pull ups daily first thing in the morning. Just something to wake me up, get insulin sensitivity peaked, and tell the muscles I am going to need them online today. I watched a Huberman video this weekend mentioning something like this helps older people to maintain muscle doing something first thing in the morning and following it up with a protein feeding. Since i don't have time for a full session I am thinking a little body weight action first thing might be the ticket. If nothing else it will add increase insulin sensitivity, increase volume, and wake me up so I am more productive when I get here in the morning.

Since we are mid week, rather than trying to start now, I will just get my whole body trained this week, and have my plan set up to start next week. If it isn't some form of flow training it might be a session or two of body weight stuff. Not sure yet. However the end goal is to regain some flexibility, functionality, stability, balance and proprioception while maintaining as much muscle as possible while doing it.

Also, I think I mentioned it here before, but I have extosis in my mouth, as a single unit they are called tori. Mine have grown so much that the growth had come out and cut through my gums at the back of my mouth making eating much harder. I think this is also partly responsible for the 5 lbs lost the last week. My jawbone is starting to ache and throb from the area that is exposed in my mouth from the growing tori / extosis. The extra bone growth has cut through my gums. It truly sucks! I have a little over a centimeter of sharp bone sticking out through my gums in the back of my mouth and it keeps cutting the back side of my tongue. It also hurts pretty bad when i chew my food and it keeps bumping against the ripped gums. My whole jawbone on the right side was aching earlier. I called the dentist, and am going in on Saturday to see if they can give me any relief but I expect they will tell me I need an oral surgeon for this. Apparently they have to cut the gums, peel them back and then saw the extra bone off of my jaw, then stitch the gums back down. I have them all over my mouth from grinding but these have got to a point they are a medical issue. So I imagine I will be getting oral surgery at some point. Only problem is I don't think dental insurance covers it. If i do get it, I will try to have them remove as many as possible. I can't speak right, words get messed up if i try to talk fast, and I constantly bite my tongue because I can't put my tongue down in the bottom of my mouth, the extosis is too big, so my tongue is always on the roof of my mouth which from my understanding is not good for some reason I don't remember right now. Anyway, I am hoping they will be able to help quickly, but also a bit worried about how I will pay for it if insurance won't cover it or only covers a small portion.

Man brother, sounds like you’ve been going through it since your vacation. Hopefully that head gasket holds up, and you’re able to get all your cars back on the road. I feel for you on that Dental surgery. Car trouble and dental trouble is no fun, and unfortunately can be costly. Hopefully your insurance will cover your dental bill.
On a good note your workout plan sounds really good. I’ve always been a big believer in body weight exercises, and I agree with us older guys can definitely benefit starting the day out with some pushups, pull-ups, and lunges. Actually pushups and lunges are part of my warmups on chest and leg days.

when it rains it pours man, seems like you're getting all the tests right now. You sound like you're in a pretty positive head space though!

Thanks, yeah, it has been challenge after challenge. I am hoping that we are getting close to the end of whatever cycle this is in my life. LOL Life happens, and sometimes in concentrated bursts. So hoping that it is a short lived one. Either way, I am not gong to let it take my positivity.

Also, thanks for the feedback on the proposed plan. Now it is just figuring out some type of flow stuff I can do. I can go to my gym and do some kettle bell swinging working toward freestyling. I have a mace, it is a bit bigger than I would prefer, but it will do the job, just take some more work to get into. I have always been a very flexible and mobile person, and right now I feel bound, weaker in a lot of areas that need to be strong as you get older to help avoid injuries, and even falls and trips. Here i am at 52 and the last couple years of linier training has made my ankles so weak, I can barely do things on one foot without losing my balance. I know it is ankle weakness for sure. I can feel that is where the instability is.

Yeah, tis the season or so it seems. I am doing what I can to stay positive, and am not obsessed with needing to be in the gym right now while other priorities are taking the focus out of necessity. I look good and don't feel too beat up for the most part. Work is crazy, and personal life is tossing me challenges. So as long as I can maintain my current condition, or close to it right now that is okay. Right now is the season for life priorities over gym life priorities, and luckily I am in a headspace that I am okay with it as long as I can maintain a good look until I can return to my focusing more energy into my fitness. If I were trying to work hard toward a fitness goal right now I would be so frustrated with my life right now I would not be very positive at all. I have to admit for the moment, me not being concerned with being bigger is a blessing in disguise at this time. Normally I would consider a time I wasn't wildly motivated to train as a negative time in my life, but I am not headspace right now and am okay with just not moving backwards to far aesthetically until i can focus on it some more. For now, while pushing for more visibility to help ensure I am the next Team Lead of my team, and build my worth in the company I am okay with this scenario. As @Hyde has mentioned ragarding contest or meet prep, or discipline while dieting. We chose this hardship to improve in an area. This is a choice, I chose to do this with work. I could easily turn down some of these trips if I wanted to. That just doesn't align with my life goals at the moment. I choose the squeeze instead because the juice is worth the squeeze right now.

Yesterday I was not able to train, but I did do a 45 minute walk up the ramps in the garage at lunch yesterday since that is all the time I could squeak out.

The rest is just life happening, and sometimes it just doesn't go our way.

One thing I have learned is that if my motivation is low, or exhaustion high, or life busy, that the means and desire to get back in the gym will come back. there is of course a balance between discipline and patient time off but I don't stress too much if I take a diet break, or a gym break, because I know the gymrat lifestyle is imbedded and the fire sometimes peters out a tiny bit then roars back. it's a marathon afterall.

Its also possible that the body craves what it needs. My wife and I think this applies not only to nutrients, but other aspects of life (sometimes even low appetite, maybe when fasting is what the body needs for something like autophagy). could be a mental reset, and injury reset. our bodys/brains know a hell of a lot more than they explain to us-

Yeah, I’m a big believer in our bodies know what we need. Now I do believe people with low activity lifestyles either don’t listen to their bodies or they aren’t as in tune with their bodies as those of us that work out. And I also believe that those of us that have been active all our lives develop the ability to listen to our bodies when we are young, and we get better with it as we age with more experience. And that can be with training and nutritional experience of what works for our bodies as well as overcoming and working through injuries.

Agreed, the good thing is I don't see this as a loss. I am gaining traction in other areas of higher priority to me right now. I am getting what I need out of the progress in other areas, and they require my attention more right now. I can use nutrition, and fasting to stay lean enough, and muscle is never the issue for me. As soon as i touch weights regularly, I begin to grow again. Muscle memory is a beautiful thing, and when you have held a solidly thick muscular physique for most of your life, you realize the advantages you have like getting everything back quickly after a period of not focusing on it.

Agreed! The more I have learned, the easier it is to maintain an acceptable level of health and fitness, even when not pushing exercise hard. My normal off season weight doesn't often get back to an unacceptable level. Even after my hiatus last year when I let myself gain some fat not to lose much muscle I did not go beyond my rule of thumb for what is acceptable for me. That is no pants over a 34 inch waist and if they start to get tight around the waste it is time to drop some fat. As mentioned previously, I want to get this down to a 33, and then a 32.

Just got back from a quick Push + Biceps workout across the street. Man I am wrecked, very fast paced, and my arms, and shoulders are shaky and chest is toasty. I finished everything in 40 minutes.

Low Incline Smith Press - 2 plates per side x 3 sets @1-2RIR 30-60 seconds rest
Low Incline Smith Press - 1 plate per side x 3 sets @1-0RIR 30-60 seconds rest

Arnold Press - 25x0-2RIR x 3 sets

DB Lateral Raises - Wyck Style - 15 x 0RIR x 3 sets

Super Set x 3 rounds
Dips x 0RIR
Alternating DB Dead Hang Curls - 25 x 0RIR
- these were alternated every rep between Supination curls, and Cross Body Supination Curls.

Set Exposure Count Per Body Part - Chest x7.5 sets, shoulders 9 sets, Biceps 3 sets, Triceps 7.5 sets - This is counting direct sets as 1 set and indirect sets as .5 sets. Not a bad count for a 40 minute workout.

I will be adding in some flies on the next go round. My overall goal is at least 10 work sets per body part per week. So 1-2 sets of flies and then dips, and or Diamond Push Ups on Pull + Triceps day should get me there for chest. Back, will likely be Pull ups first x 4, rowing x4, straight arm pull downs or pullovers for the final 2 sets gets me there. Shoulders and arms will be the highest set counts, and frequency since they recover so quickly.

This one pretty much toasted me. I wasn't really very fed, but I ran out of time for pre-feeding and needed to get into the gym just in case I have to travel tonight, I wanted to get at least one session in. Finishing my intra drink now, and will have a nice big meal when i get home from work.

I can't remember are you pretty much just cruising on trt now?
I haven't taken a shot since June 17th, the day before I left for vacation. I was on 315mg T, and 350mg mast at the end doing 45mg t, and 50mg mast daily. I intend to start 20mg Test E daily again tomorrow for 140mg total a week for a while. Basically back on my prescribed TRT dose, well it is 150mg weekly, but close enough. I might toss in a low dose of exemestane that first week or two to avoid any estro rebound. I noticed I was getting a little moody, and my gyno seems to be a little responsive this week. So I am guessing I am at a point my hormones are in a bit of limbo now. I am not even sure how to do the math breakdown on the half life situation with a daily dosing protocol. Obviously it would taper faster since only a little added every day and every day some more falls off from the days before. If this give me a temporary period of just slightly elevate test levels I am not super worried about that. Just trying to smooth out the experience to make life easier without being moody.

I noticed after last blast at less than 2 weeks after stopping my shots I started getting those moodiness symptoms. I thought it was in my head until both my stepdaughter and wife were suddenly saying I’d been snappy or a jerk about all kinds of things. Now that’s very telling considering they’d had no issues with me on gear - it was the imbalance of T:E that was the issue. I should have taken some Exem, and next time I’ll add in a baby dose of test even sooner (I think I waited around 17-19 days to resume cruise). Like a microdose similar to Green Machine.

I’m all for getting physically healthier sooner, but mental & family health is a top priority for me as well.

Man it is good to hear you echo this since we were both on the daily doses and I noticed last week, but this week it has been obvious to me. I have that anxiety rush feeling in my chest just waiting for something to pop off, and it is ready to engage wholly, and completely. My family may have noticed the week before but were too nice to tell me. No one mentioned anything but if it kept up I imagine my wife would have said something to me. I told her last night, I am feeling too aggressive and on the edge right now. Just getting worked up a lot more easily. I am going to fix it, and hope I haven't been a bear to you. She said thanks she had noticed it but figured I had been working so hard recently it was just work related stress.

I definitely think I should have probably started my daily T around the 2 week mark to avoid this. However, I was kind of going off the gameplan of if i had been doing my test all in one or two shots a week, not daily where it would fall off more quickly from a slightly lower top level than in that instance. I asked Gemini specifically how much test should be left in my system after daily doses at this time, and it says most of it should already be gone. :cautious::cautious::cautious:

I think it's a bit of that saying, there's a season for all things. You can't always give 100% in every aspect of your life so , if training isn't at full steam because of injuries, etc. Then maybe it's the work stuff you're pushing towards and going fuller throttle - then it'll come back around to training or some other priority at some point. But when you're disciplined and driven in one area of your life, it doesn't go away in other areas. It's just who you are, so you know you'll get it done. It's just a matter of timing.
