KLEEN LIVING - A log about Life, Training, and Nutrition.

I just got the results from the health fair at work, and things are looking good.

BP 118//78
Height 5'7.5 inches
Waist - at belly button - 36.1 inches
Total Cholesterol - 126, HDL 32 - I expected this to be low with less cardio involved so I am not sweating this. TC/HDL Ratio - 3.9 - Average risk starts at 3.7-5
Blood Glucose - 78
Body Weight in clothes - 205.1 - I haven't weighed in 3-4 days, I would estimate this puts me in the 198-202 range without clothes on. Not too bad. Good to know I am in good ranges on most things and overall cholesterol is low enough that the lower HDL isn't as bad of an issue.

Pretty happy with these results for being as far as I am into this cycle without a lot of cardio.

ironically I think lunges are the thing that hurt my knee the most right now lol. Although I think its just a pulling sensation from other muscle groups getting stimulation.

Yeah, it requires a lot more stability than 2 leg movements, and depending on what muscle group you are focusing on they are harder on the knees, If pushing quads as opposed to glutes your knee is more likely to be bothered if you have an issue.

this is the part that puts things into perspective. you sit at 200lbs probably at what do you think 12% now? I'm about 2" taller 191 ish lbs and probably down to 15-16%. the amount of lean mass you have is phenomenal.
I would put myself closer to 17-18% I just have bricked up abs so they show through more. I tend to have a bit of a turtle shell belly as I get higher in bodyfat until my abs finally disappear. My lower back and love handles still hold a lot of fat, the fat on my lower back is worse than my abs for certain. I think we are closer to each other in conditioning than you think. Just store fat differently.

In the pic you posted in your log recently of you leaner than now but not ripped like back in your Xfit days I would put you right around 15% assuming your overall fat distribution, and it looked good on you.

Fasted Weight 200.1
Currently 34 hours in on my fast, I think I am probably going to extend to dinner but definitely until lunch. I woke up a bit tender in the lower back still. So if things are going well I may even push through to next morning to help with inflammation a little more. Went ahead and took some ibuprofen for the swelling. Hopefully it really loosens up a bit today.

I am still taking my 45-60 minute long walks daily. Making sure as much of my walking as possible is up an incline. It has been raining a lot so I have been walking up the ramps in the parking garage more than getting out to the park for lunch.

have used them, and am going to get some.more
you ever wear elbow sleeves?
Make sure I can keep them on for a whole session or at least multiple sets.
That, or Elbow Wraps.. (or both lol) Being
impeded by an elbow is the worst. Wrapping up let's me go pretty heavy on triceps with no consequence.

Could be something to look into if you haven't tried em yet. You don't really need to keep them on the whole session like sleeves which is why I like them. Bring them out for the topset and throw it aside after

I've been sneaking more of those in lately myself. I try to get at least 10 minutes at a time in if I can to add them all up.

Rain.............. haven't seen much of it lately as bizarre as that sounds. I'm starting to think the PNW is looking at a drought year...

We have all your rain in the north east.

I haven't really thought of wraps. I do prefer a nice sleeve i can where throughout the workout. I will definitely keep those in mind as an alternative.

Yeah, getting in those walks and keeping steps around 10000 a day is what I am focusing on right now. It takes a concentrated effort since my job is a lot of sitting most of the time.

All of it!

I did my walks yesterday, and pushed for my 10,000 steps a day. I had to take a second walk to make up 1000 steps to do it. I do like having the smart watch to keep track of my steps a lot more. It makes it much easier to track my steps / activity. I am going to have to dig a little through the manual and see what all this thing can do and how to do it. Nice looking watch though.

I did a 48 hour fast, I considered going for a 60, but the wife had a bad day and I decided to have a nice meal with her. Had 1lb peeled shrimp boil with 2 boiled new potatoes in a chipotle sauce for dinner last night. So pretty low carb, high protein around 130g, and guessing 20g fat.

Morning Weight 200.2 - I am looking pretty solid, abs see to have tightened up a little bit.

Diet-wise, I will have 2 breakfast tacos this morning if they are from the really good place. I am not sure how many calories, just something I treat myself when we have the good breakfast tacos. I skip all of the other Friday breakfasts, or just have some fruit, and yogurt.

Training - in an effort to let my lower back heal a bit I think I may stick with leg curls, and leg extensions for a week or two. More than likely adding in some BFR work on them to give me a better chance to grow or maintain leg size. That will most likely be how I train them. I am thinking maybe 3 working sets focusing on the 8-12 range, then throw on some knee wraps for some BFR and do another 3-4 sets in a superset fashion. I think I will try some of the Arsenal Hip Thrust to see if I can bring in the glutes more so I don't lose my ass!!! I feel I can do that one without much issue to the lower back, it really isolates the glutes and also the glute ham tie ins. I will say it is far superior at that compared to a barbell hip thrust, I am not sure why but the difference is night and day. If that bothers the lower back then possibly sled pushes once the lower back is less angry.

it's surprisngly very difficult for a desk jockey. this is a struggle I really understand!

not sure I love mine, but I have been throwing it on for the walks just to track. I have to charge it nearly every single day though. upside, is I can put any background I want on it so it's currently a picture of my wife in a bikini which was not wife approved lol

Sounds motivating to me! :)

I went down for breakfast and they didn't have any taco varieties that excited me enough to break my diet earlier. So I decided to hold off. I am about to go make myself a chicken and rice Mexican style bowl from my prep food. Eat it while watching a training video then clock out and go take a walk right after.

Sounds like a great day. I've been looking forward to hamster wheel style cardio a lot lately with all the documentaries i've been watching. although I'm on Bigorexia now which is kinda lame to be honest. Half the time they're like "he's sick, he wants to get bigger, he never feels like he's big enough" and I'm like, who is this dude, he sounds awesome.

Had a good weekend, diet was tight until yesterday, took the wife out for meals twice because my son missed our Mother's Day breakfast. We had to reschedule because Sage's work pulled some BS the last minute and moved her schedule to benefit another Mother since she was not a mother herself. Ruining our original dinner plans, but my son missed the message saying it was rescheduled. I was so pissed she had just turned in her 2 weeks because she is going full time at the salon now. I literally told her to tell them no that she has a Mother and those people were no more important than her celebrating with her mother. She went ahead and worked but I told her don't let that retail place take advantage of her again during her final 2 weeks. She has already been told she can start full time ASAP.

As far as food, we did IHOP for a waffle she was craving for breakfast. I had a half an omelet, and half a waffle then later in the evening we had fajitas and some marble slab ice cream. I am a bit bloated this morning.

My lower back is being a real bitch! Just holding on to the pain and tightness. I think it is time for a concentrated effort with ibuprofen to bring things down. I won't try to do anything that might bother it over the next week or two. So all leg movements will be isolation exercises for a little bit. Leg Extensions, Leg Curls, adductor and abductor work. Cardio will be limited to walking and probably recumbent bike, and I will do a solid week of 800mg of ibuprofen every 4 hours, and see where I am at the end of the week. I will just add NAC back in to help with the liver while on that. I am already doing 250mg of TUDCA daily as part of my daily support supps. I may bump that to 500 while on the ibuprofen.

I am honestly considering just running through the full body circuit at the gym for 3 sets per exercise, and push things to long range partials on each set except for anything that is higher risk. I am going to fast until around noon today and then have a big bowl of 93/7 turkey chili. I plan to keep total calories around 2000 today.

I have to be honest here, all of these challenges are making me question whether I am going to hit my goal for this last half by the time we take our trip. I am not giving up by any means, but I feel like I am at a point if I can't make some solid progress over the next 2-3 weeks i am not likely to achieve my final goal of having a nice set of abs in Florida next month. At this point we are about 5 weeks out and I am not as close as I want to be. I know if I can get things locked down a bit I will be okay otherwise I will be dropping a $100 donation for the accountability thread. I don't mind the donation, but not ready to accept defeat just yet.

Two thoughts:

1) dialing back on the other movements and switching to a full body circuit, plus increasing cardio & a few extra fasts will probably get you where you need to be for the challenge goal. If you want it, you've still got this. I believe that based on your work ethic.

2) a challenge goal is just that. Especially if circumstances (eg, injuries) change things. Goals also change. So aside from pride/saying you want to hit the weight goal, and you're OK dropping the donation $, it's also OK to pivot. But you just need to decide what's most important right now.

yeah it does sound like she's being walked on a bit and taken advantage off, but gotta give Sage credit for that integrity to put in the time for an employer. she'll figure out her healthy boundaries in time but the work ethic in a young person is really great.

Had a good weekend, diet was tight until yesterday,
same 😂 😂
my wife wanted to host so that means on mothers day, she spent the whole day busting her ass to host her kids and aunt?? I mean yes I was there working too, yard work, BBQ prep, groceries, garden, house, dogs etc so it was a team job but by the time everyone left we both zonked out on the couch. I'm liking a more "dry" lifestyle so while I did enjoy a little bourbon during the BBQ, I switched to red wine to slow things down and not feel like a train wreck today. But after all that BBQ and the dishes other people brought over, I was up like 6lbs today and already in the bathroom 3 times this morning 😂☠️

My lower back is being a real bitch! Just holding on to the pain and tightness.

how is your sleep and stress lately? I've noticed some lower back stiffness since we got the puppy which has really destroyed my sleep with 2am potty breaks...

Oh yeah, I can still make huge improvements from here. I am not willing to pivot on the weight loss, it will inevitably be a positive for my lower back. So the goal still applies, just with adjustments to size expectations but this was about a look that requires leanness, which I can still hit even if I have to focus more on fasting than cardio.

Yeah I am definitely up a bit. Didn't bother getting on the scale this morning. I could see the bloat on my face and body.

Sleep has actually been good. I assume a lot of this has to do with my feet and small adjustments to my gate to avoid foot pain. I had to stop wearing my Nike trainers. The bubble in them pushed my foot to one side or the other making every step unstable. I do not recommend Nike ZOOM at all! Your back pain could just be bending down twice as often for petting and other dog related activities.

Man I still swear by my sauconys. whenever mine get trashed, I just relegate them to yard duty and pick up a new pair of "last years" model for 1/2 price. I can't get myself to pay $130 or whatever for this years newest model when I can often find last years model on amazon or something for like $39ish

haha maybe. at first I thought it was the awesome squat/leg session I had weekend before last but then I started thinking it was the lack of sleep cause the one night the puppy slept till 4:30am my back was a LOT better.

Oh I did, didn't record it to the renpho app lol I thought I'd give myself the day to flush a little bit but was 196 this morning lol.

Yeah, you can't really go wrong with Saucony's, they are a good shoe. Yeah, no reason to put it in the renpho app, it is just going to be a temporary blip.

I am still fasting at this point, I will have myself a meal here soon but not sure when. Pretty busy at work so not likely to be super soon. Might as well take advantage of being busy, and wait for a slow down point.

I have to go back to my stock wheels on the flex, the rims my son gave me are too aggressive for the coil-overs. The offset on them has them sitting too far outside of the wheel hub. So going back to the stockers. One frustrating thing I think I mentioned is that they sent me the super low coilovers for the back instead of the regular lowering ones. We didn't find out until they were on and he couldn't raise them any higher. So the back is 1/2 an inch lower than the front currently. I will be lowering the front to match it when I get the stockers back on. Right now there isn't enough clearance to do anything like that. The coilovers are pretty aggressive. I am both impressed by the stiffness and sometimes unimpressed with how stiff they are on abrupt bumps that really push them. However, it handles like it is on rails now. No body roll, and comfortable enough on the freeway but the side roads with bumps are well, just bumpy as all get out. I am assuming they will settle a little bit too. Plus I need to make sure the dampening is turned all the way up to make it smoother. I asked him to, but I am not sure if he did. Either way, it looks much better with smaller wheel well gap, and for what I wanted to accomplish, I ain't mad at it. My passengers might feel it is a bit too stiff, but they will be okay, or can find another ride. ;) This is what happens when the wife makes you drive the SUV instead of a car of your choice. You make the SUV into the car of your choice.

I came very very close to doing this myself today but reminded myself that my waist size was down judging by my squat belt, and the last two weeks of sessions are likely being very well fed and leading towards some inflamation and holding some extra weight so I decided to just risk it and keep the party rolling, lol.

just go fully stanced 😂

Now that is what I need in my life! LMAO!!!! Slam It!!!! NOT!!!!

Public Service Announcement!!!

If your spoon doesn't stand straight up in your chili, it is not meaty enough!!! This pot has 4lbs of ground turkey, 3 cans of hot chili beans, 1 large can diced tomatoes, 2 regular cans tomato sauce, 2 boxes of 2 Alarm Chili Kit, some additional seasons and spices, and lots of yummy goodness!!!

The hits just keep coming baby!!! Just dropped $1200 on new tires because the old rims don't work with the new set up. Luckily I was smart enough to hold out on replacing the rear tires, at 295/45 they were grossly expensive. Saved myself a large chunk of money there. Got about the best all season performance tires you can get. At least speaking to true sports driving enthusiasts. All of the people I know prefer these over the Pilot Sport all season tires, say these are somewhere between the Pilot Sport all season, and the Pilot 4 summer performance tires. So about as good as you can get without going completely Summer. I will get more miles out of these, and better traction in colder weather with these which makes sense to me considering our winters have been dipping colder and colder snaps recently. Might as well have some rubber that doesn't harden into almost a hard plastic in cold weather.

Continental - Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus

tires always feel like a really expensive oil change, like this thing that you need but don't want to spend money on. Then when you get really good tires on you totally notice vast improvements in the vehicle. I always hated going in to get them, and loved driving around on new rubber.

Absolutely, the feel of a solid good tire is awesome and confidence inspiring. I have a feeling being back on the stockers will help with the ride a bit too. The lower mass, and accurate stance should bring a little something to the table for some of the driving. Plus my tires won't hit my wheel wells on large bumps. I do think I will need to do some wheel spacers with extended lugs to fill the outer gap a bit, I don't want it to look like the tires are sunken into the wheel well either. Of course I will wait until I can buy some good calibrated ones specifically for my wheel bolt pattern so they fit nice and snug with no play, not like what you can grab at autozone / O'Reilly's.

when I had the V, I went staggered which looked awesome and the grip was fantastic for the 400/400 beast, but can't really rotate staggered tires so they didn't last as long lol.

Yeah for sure, the staggered look is awesome and with a rear wheel drive with that kind of power it is pretty much required for decent traction. I loved the way the flex looked with the big fatties on back but honestly, my all wheel drive pretty much needs to be matched or as close to matched as possible on diameter. So I will likely end up sticking with the same all the way around. Ideally at some point I would go to 275/40 all the way around but I don't even know if that will fit without going and paying someone to have a look and I am not anywhere near that. I was able to go ahead and have the tires installed yesterday and there is a bit of a gap now in the rear fender well, I will most likely buy some longer studs and drop a 15mm spacer made for the hub in there to fill that gap and call it a day. It will at least make the tires look wider in the back, and fill the gap. The front actually look good and fill the gap nicely. It seems like the ride is getting much better, so I think the coil-overs are breaking in. I wasn't sure if they did any kind of breaking in or settling but judging by how the ride is softening pretty quickly, I think there is at least a little bit of that happening. I noticed it on the way home yesterday before getting the new tires, and then this morning on the stockers it was smooth as silk, comparatively speaking from where it was the first day I got it back. I wasn't sure if it was going to get stiffer with the stockers since it would be less rubber on a 20 inch wheel than a 19 inch with the same diameter but it feels better.

I got in a decent upper body session last night too.

Daily Step Count - 11569 - Highest I have recorded since having my watch to count steps.

Surprising fasted weight this morning, 210, still holding onto a lot of water and glycogen. I am going to be fasting most of the day if not all day. Get my walks in, and then relax with the wife tonight before heading out in the morning. Should be a good trip, I will actually have the weekend off to do some stuff around Denver. Normally I am working the whole time so that is pretty nice. I am going to try to get out to the mountains for a walk / hike.

I'm definitely sensing an uptick in mood/motivation in your log lately! despite fighting the injuries it seems like you're really picking up some steam.

you know I wouldn't be suprised if that's true. it's been a long time since I played with suspension but I remember similar stuff when I was building lowriders tbh.

Yeah, jusrt realizing time is short, and waiting around for my body to be willing to do things is not going to produce the results i want. So it is time to adjust, and use nutrition a lot more than activity to drop the weight.

I was curious and did a google search, and it is pretty common for the coil-overs to have a settling period. The bushings, and springs loosen up / soften a bit during the first few weeks of driving, and the height often settles a few mm per corner of the car.
Denver is a great place to be outside! Get out of the city and hike if you can
Definitely, I tried to see if i could get a rental while there to go see some things but my boss said he can't approve that on the expenses since i don't have any need to drive in or take equipment in to the office. However, I found a Turbo Mini Cooper S with a manual transmission on TURO that I might go ahead and get just for Saturday and Sunday while I am free over the weekend. Dropping 118 for a fun to drive car that I can take up into the twisties to have some driving fun too sounds like a reasonable thing considering how much OT I will get while there.

Just cruising through the mountains is beautiful 😍

I totally forgot about that. Before I bagged my silverado we had coils and I was disappointed it wasn't as low as I expected at first but after a couple days, boom. there it was. Then same thing when I lifted a jeep years ago, but unfortunately in reverse lol. Looked like a great lift the first couple days then settled, haha.

dude these things are CRAZY FUN to drive!! It's one of the few non GM / imports I seriously freaking love. I test drove a brand new one a while back and it always felt fast even just doing the speed limit. My wife hated the idea of me commuting in it (pop can among semi trucks) and it wouldn't fit my golf clubs, much less clubs + gym gear so it just didn't make practical sense for me but they are so much fun to drive.

Yeah, even my wife said it felt smoother when she drove it to the park and ride.

Yeah, I am still trying to decide if I am getting a car, the boss said he would spot me a few personal uber trips just for coming out. Justifying 118 for 2 days, really a day and a half is kind of hard. Even with the extra hours. However, it would be really fun!!!

I racked up over 13600 steps yesterday, it was a good day for steps! I am at 4000 today, more of a sit down kind of day, but I plan to do some walking tonight if not stuck at work, and work is almost a half mile from the hotel so there are plenty of steps there. I am hoping to get to the gym for a session too, but the schedule is a bit up in the air.

Long day at work yesterday, no time for the gym but I got in just over 14700 steps yesterday, and food was pretty good all day. I had a little over half of a CAVA Mediterranean bowl with double extra chicken and 3 spicy lamb meatballs, the lady must have liked me because she piled that chicken on like it was free! Then I had 2 very meat heavy sushi rolls for dinner. Overall I would say it was a good day. I also sipped on 3 packets of Liquid IV throughout the day.

I got the bulk of the work done yesterday on the phone cut-over to TEAMS Phone, and just need to upgrade a few people's laptops today. I will probably walk back to the hotel to grab something at lunch, to keep steps a little higher, and get out of the office. Hopefully I will get an opportunity after work to get in a nice session. Knock back an energy drink when I leave work and then get into it after I get back and get changed. I am already well into OT working 12 hr days since I got here and had a couple hours stocked up from Monday and Tuesday from trying to wrap things up before my trip. This should make for a nice paycheck. Perfect timing with the current car situation and having to buy my daughter another car. Our mechanic told us her jeep wasn't worth fixing and would just be a money trap in it's current condition. The head gaskets would be over 2500 and she has beat it up a bit being her first car, and not exactly being a great driver. She didn't come to it naturally like most. She has gotten a lot better driving her Mom's car because she is frightened to death to mess up Momma's Baby! Hopefully that carries over to her new car.

I used to laugh every time I saw new dents in my step daughters car when they were newer drivers. my former sister in law was the same way. she had one of the old jeep trucks from back in the day and beat the hell out of it lol. 😂 my wife admits her Suburban like 15+ years ago before we ever met, had a number of dents.... she drives a little CX5 now and aside from it being a bit of a mess, is completley dent free haha

I cannot understand for the life of me the obsession with people driving cars so big they struggle to park & maneuver them. Especially for a normally-sized human being. Anyone within about 6’1” and 250lbs can fit fine in almost everything, but a lot of people struggle to even use a parking lot.

All these dorks in their prick-up trucks weighing 100-something pounds acting like they need Labron James-level head space, and women who can barely see over the steering wheel of their SUV/Jeep. Of course nobody is ever towing or even hauling anything, besides their ass on their work commute. It’s just dumb.

Haha, yeah if you can't drive don't drive a boat!

I’m sorry, I am just endlessly amazed at some of the stuff I see when driving. It’s not that most people are bad drivers even - it’s just that such a huge minority are!

Around here it’s disgusting how many people run red lights, me and my wife both wait a few seconds after green before going.

Is the food pretty good? I keep seeing it pop up everywhere where I live. The format is pretty similar to chipotle from first glance
I love CAVA! Fast casual counter service, pretty healthy choices (greens, lentils, rice, chicken and lamb, etc.), good flavor with different feta and hummus choices. Bowls are pretty big sized too. I usually "force" myself to eat a whole vs a half. Probably if left to my own devices 3/4 of a bowl is perfect portion.

@AnfoAjax I agree with this, I always double the chicken and add a few lamb meatballs as a treat but to keep fats lower go with just chicken. I would say it is a healthy but also high calorie meal. If you don't have a lot of fats to play with in your diet then you will want to be careful. More hummus, less feta or cream cheese spreads. I always get the super greens option. IE super high in nutrients. They are are all baby greens and super crunchy.

I got in 2 sessions this weekend. One an upper body day which was nice, and then a lower body day with a touch on biceps, triceps, and shoulders yesterday. I did 3 sets of leg press, and 4 sets of leg curls and extensions. I followed that up with a complex for arms and delts running through back to back then resting 1 minute before repeating 3 times. My lowest day for steps was yesterday ringing in at about 10500.

I originally intended to be very strict on my diet over the weekend, but honestly, I was playing with edibles the whole time, and ended up eating a bit more for enjoyment. That, and I made a conscious decision to be in a surplus those 2 days since I was able to lift. My big meals were half a 20 inch NY style pizza, and a large serving of hibachi with steak, and shrimp. I ended up tossing out the other half of the pizza. It was excellent fresh, but not that good reheated and honestly, I got my taste, and that was enough. I kept water intake up, but I am bloated and holding a lot of water. Today is going to be a much lighter day. I may just have 3-4 Muscle Milks and then have a decent dinner of some sort. Let some of this water fall off of me today, maybe sit in the steam room this evening.

If anyone travels to Denver, I definitely recommend going to The Original for breakfast, they have a chimichurri steak with amazing fried breakfast potatoes. The place is a total vibe with a bar, and a DJ. It is right by the ball field. If you like being in the middle of everything check out The Crawford Hotel, it is associated with The Oxford Hotel which has a really nice gym with good equipment that moves well and is well made to move in good movement patterns.

I won't likely go to the gym tonight, I plan to get some walking in, and possibly go to the Museum of Illusions on some edibles to enjoy myself. Then so long as not raining just take a walk for a while. Make sure my steps are over 10g for the day.

While I was at The Original some guy started talking to me at the bar, and he asked me if I was here for some sort of fitness competition. Which was pretty cool.

Funny story, the same guy just came in and started talking to me like we were old buddies, and I am one of those people who can make a friend in any situation. So we just got right into chatting. An hour and 4-5 glasses of bourbon later for him, and they hand me a $170 bill. I was like Hey, what is this? I didn't have any bourbon, or pork belly... They literally thought we were together, together. I was like, no we just met at the bar, and he is cool, but I ain't sleeping with him, he is gonna have to get his own bill, or pony up with that ass... We all had a good laugh.

Hahaha, well, like the saying goes - you start working out thinking chicks will dig it, but then you come to realize that it's only the bros that are mirin'!

Haha, I don't have that problem. Women be mirin too! Just not as funny of a story there. LOL

I'm full redneck and love a good truck but even my last truck was a Colorado lol. small enough to park anywhere, 7k towing capacity, full size 6ft bed. These new trucks now days are just ridiculous in size. it's bizarre to me to see people commuting in their daily 2500....

was funny last friday when I dropped into an unusual gym. Since it's a chain, I grabbed a location near my son's track meet and I was the odd man out there but definitely felt like I was getting the looks.

I will have to say that black women over 40 are so good for my ego! They have zero issue with letting you know you are eye candy to them. Women over 35 in general but black women over 40 seem to really enjoy letting me know. LOL

This thread had me flash back to this YouTube clip.

Yeah, plenty of big trucks in Texas!!! Plenty of old beaters too! I don't mind the big trucks if people can drive them. It is the rest of the idiots out there who bought a tank just to satisfy their ego, but can't drive for ****!
