Kabuki's "VIDEO" Log - a little crazy fun for everyone

Woke up today fatigued again…went to leave and noticed the lymph node under my jaw is swollen up again! Ahhhh! Have a doc appointment on Monday.

Squats scucked ass as well. Monolift isn’t done so can’t try super wide. Spent 20min trying to get into the suit I bought but there is just no way in hell. Got it nearly on but couldn’t get legs wider than 2ft with it.

My squat strength blows right now as well.

Ok done *****in. Probably this damn viral infection or whatever it is getting to me.

I was just tired and didn’t want to do any assistance work so hit one last heavy set. I really need to do a conventional deadlift day. My back strength is up there right now. That RDL felt like nothing and I had more just fatigued today.

What would you use if you do not have access to a GHR, if anything?

Watch the other ones after using the GHR in this vid. The one against the rack works GREAT!

i have seen Brian Siders use the foam roller under his low back. i am not that high yet but i really need to work on it. i will try the rack stretches but i have a feeling that it will gather some looks from the "day care kids" at our gym.

thanks again as always bud

BW was 234 at training yesterday and after my usual nightly water loss i was 230.0 this morning. Waist was down to 37.5 finally passing up my wife (pregnant) who hit 38" this week. That still puts me over the 220's by 14lbs and I want to be 8-10lbs over for a successful drop/recomp.

Next week will be cool as the last time i saw under 230 was 5 years ago when i did a drop to the 220's for wabdl worlds (and bombed). Didn't know what i was doing then and loss a lot of mass.

Definitely getting in better shape with the frequent sled pulling at work. Extended my old loop at home by another 120long strides, took a 1min breather in middle, and still came in at a time matching some of my best previous pulls from 6months ago.

Went to do some pressdowns but my stomach was still shredded from thursdays WOD and Super Stretch situps so had to to something else. If you have not watched the video of that ab session from last week you need to. for something simple I have never had a fuller better muscle soreness from ab work. They are SORE UP TO MY PECS! didn't even know they went that high. anyway

i was planning on doing something crazy for my conventional pulling session tonight...but I ended up brutalizing my back for hours doing some very strenous activity yesterday. My lats were on fire and my right one was just shot.

Wore new briefs for first time and tried out monolift with wide stance for first time. Struggled with hitting depth on all of them. Believe it’s a flexibility issue with my the stance I’m trying. If I can’t hit depth I might have to bring stance in a little bit.

are wearing boxer briefs better than just wearing boxers for deadlifts? I always wear them for squats after tearing all my nice boxers

yes. same problem.

Damn I was in a bad mood yesterday. Crappy nights sleep followed by crappy day at work, followed by 3 guys letting me know they would not be there to train less than an hour prior to training time.

Chest has been feeling better so I decided to take some heavier weights to my chest since I have not done that for awhile.

Out of town over long weekend and gained a couple lbs with being fed by the inlaws. Hopefully it strips off pretty quickly. Did have to go buy some new clothes before I left as none of my shorts fit anymore. Apparently I wear a size 34 now. Don’t think I’ve worn that since college!

Since you squat/deadlift quite heavy, have you ever had any lower back issues b/c of this ?

i had low back issues before i stated squating and deadlifting heavy. It was bad. I couldn't take a long drive without loading up on asprin. bought a car with real comfy heated seats just to make it somewhat bearable.

Anyway squatting and deadlifting heavy (with good form) relieved these problems. i have not had issues since then...so about 7 years now.:bruce1:

nice vid of outside squats, must be a nice change
my new monolift i built doesn't fit in the house...which makes the wife just thrilled with it being in yard :( but i'm hoping she gets tired of what is going to be a growing number of equipment in driveway...and decides to let me expand the shop so i have room for the full gym i want. Been pushing for that for years with no success...but think she is caving this next year :) its to bad there was so much stuff in the driveway to make that happen ;)

you gotta make a barstand tabledesk thing countertop and put it in front of the monolift to pretend its actually a bar ! then hit the super secret kabuki button to transform it back into a mountain of steel blood and guys

Had a killer headache yesterday but decided to do a little training anyway. Some speed deadlifts followed with a couple rack pulls.

Pulled this morning.

New guy joined us that is an avid hiker. He came out just to see how lame pulling was. We loaded him with less weight than us. He had to stop halfway and unload 25lbs so that he could keep going ;) He got worked pretty good by our easy lame program.

115lbs x 13min

I did a section with 140lbs but that about killed me so I made him carry his 25lber.

you mean regular boxer briefs right?

I split my really cool boxers squatting because I was in professional clothes all day and quick hit the gym , forgetting. O well you live you learn

I doubt he would post that if they were regular boxer briefs, Smeton. That would be weird.

That's pretty funny about the hiker guy on the sled, Kabuki. Some things just look easy to the observer until they try it, I guess. I remember doing some Clean and Jerks with 225 at a contest, and the crowd acted like I just gave up when I stopped after my nineth rather than hit the magic number 10. I guess it doesn't look as exhausting as it is.

Yo kabuki,
I dont know if you have already mentioned this in your log but what gear do you train in. I am thinking about getting some briefs and a bench shirt, and I am trying to get opinions from anyone who has experience.

yep...my powerlifting gear breifs.

This totally blows! Inzer was supposed to put a rush on my suit…which apparently has not happened. So if all works out perfectly I’ll get 1, one, numo uno, workout in my suit before the meet….and that’s if everything works out perfectly.

Total crap, suckkola

Anyway here is the training plan I’m looking at once this meet is over.

Damn I smacked my head HARD. Jumped up while standing under bar hooks. I thought I was going to need stitches and my wife heard it inside the house. This was Saturday but I can still barely touch the top of my head today. Makes washing my hair hard as well as sleeping when I bump the top of it against the pillow.

Anyway on to the squat workout that followed the hit. Decided to try out a friends single ply IPF approved suit so at least I would have something to wear to meet. Slapped on a stocking cap to hold the icepacks on my head

Cut it just before parallel on the 755 because I was worried about coming out of hole after that ugly 715 attempt. But I just shot up quick and perfect and felt like I could have hit 5+ reps. Felt like a good opener that I wouldn’t have to struggle with to hit depth.

That’s all I did. No assistance work.

I like the driveway setup. It seems pretty hardcore lifting outside. It seems like you had a lot of trouble lowering 715, but it didn't look that bad on the way up.

what do false grip barbell rows do?

I know some people do bicep curls flase grip and it takes the forearm tension off. and for chest it eliminates the elbow stress.

yeah pretty much.

755 was cake however. don't think i locked my back in with the 715 and was loosing air. just did a shitty job with it.

They hit the back in a slightly different manner. Particulalry because when i do these lean over even more and i stretch it out quite a bit at the bottom. Really seems to finish off the back pretty well so i do these towards the end of a workout. just a couple high(er) rep sets around 8-12

Head was still hurting to touch since that whack i gave it saturday morning. head started throbbing while benching with all the extra blood.

Also for some reason started second guessing my setup on bench and changed my foot stance tonight.

I was looking at replaced my old belt with holes for that belt above. Does it make a big difference if it is 10mm or 13mm ? I like how it has a lever instead of holes, so there's a custom fit.

Also too have you ever used a manta ray for squats before ? I'm thinking about getting one of those as well as I have trouble balancing the bar occasionally.

The 10mm is a good training belt. i've never used one as i use the 13mm leather. the 13mm does take ahwile to break in. i've heard good things about the 10mm. sure your fine either way.

Don't buy a manta ray for your primary squat days. They can be used occasionaly to do something different or when wanting to relieve some strain on upper back.

If your having trouble with balance your not holding the bar correctly or you don't have enough upper back development. plain and simple.

There should be a pocket that forms when you setup to squat. Below the peak of your traps and on the back of your shoulders. I'll take a picture this weekend. There is a line accross my back where i hold the bar that becomes more visible the 3-4 days following heavy squats when it gets more red. A close up may show it as its there pretty much all the time.

Sure that sounds good. I'd like to see that pic.

Judging by the mantra ray's placement, it seems too high and looks like it sits literally on the base of the neck.

I forgot to take that picture so I fixed yours. See that shelf in the hole below the traps and the back of the delt. I know it looks like the bar will roll off back but it is in fact a nice shelf and supports the bar all the way across your back from shoulder to shoulder.

With real heavy weight (700+) I actually lift the bar off the rack with the bar higher on traps but it immediately forms into that shelf when I stand erect.

Manta rays can be done occasionally as a squat variation. But not as the core squat movement.

Monolift, Bars, and Weights are all loaded on the trailer. Weighed in at 230lbs last night. Will have my last meal at lunch today and then hopefully be at 220lbs at noon tomorrow when I show up at the coast to unload equipment and weigh in.

Got my super big canvas in but it is silly big. Worked up to an easy 785 but after watching my squat vids the last 2 weeks I think I’m just going to use that thin single ply ipf squat suit (metal). Squats were looking better in it because it was at least close to the right size. Oh yeah, tried the canvas on Monday working up to 605 pull. Didn’t like it as it just made it difficult with all that loose material hanging out all over place getting in way.

My bench shirt is a little loose now but not all that to big. No expecting a big bench but would like to at least be in the 600’s.

Just looking forward to having a good time.

Interesting. I've tried highbar before and I've noticed that it slips down sometimes too.

Good luck in your contest.
