Jim's Powerlifting Training

Cool. Thats impressive she's able to manipulate it. And yeah...the x wife on the calves is easily the worst part. My old boss at the chiro would just about try to crawl out from underneath the thing when i got down to his calves.

Edit: was today your first x-wife experience? Thoughts on it? Did it affect your workout either positively or negatively or no difference?

I used it sparingly at the meet in March.

Wasn't really hurting anywhere so it's hard to say there was a difference. Had a few vertebrae pop which felt pretty good though.

I need to do something about the edges though, as they are a bit sharp. Donnie has his machined but I'm not sure how (how much he takes off the center and ends.)

The guy my boss got his from just grinded em down until they were smooth. Like yours, they were pretty sharp when they came from the shop. Im pretty sure youd just grind em down almost how you would sand a board. But, i dont know too much about metal work.

Yeah, I just got them from a steel provider so I haven't had any machine work done.

I doubt I have the tools to do it myself, and like you I know very little about metal work.

Hopefully, herderdude can let me know what specs Donnie has his machined to so I can get a quote from a metalworker.

I bet a machine shop would clean the edges up by hand for next to nothing while you stand there if you don't have a grinder yourself.

No idea about the bullnose or the lathed out radius in the center. Ours, we took an angle grinder to knock the burr off of the edges and it was all good. The metalwork at the machine shop is very expensive. Your $200 hunk of steel is closer to $1000 when that's all said and done, where a grinder is like $60. You could ask Super D how that stuff was done, though

I would second herder and get a grinder for the edges...or you can use a very strong file for several shifts if it's not bad, just burr. Can be a pain though.

And kudos to the wife man, mine dropped mine on my back trying to do me

Harbor Freight if you don't need it to last for lots of jobs. Probably under 30. You get what you pay for obviously though; fair warning!

That's probably what I'll do.

I'm gonna take herders word on the cost of that machining and avoid it, cuz **** that.

I get a lot of my "disposable" tools from Harbor Freight lol. Got my jack from them too, just waiting for the day it quits on me.

If we needed something to last that wasn't power, we bought Snap-On or some select Matco hand tools. Craftsman was what we used if we had to heat/bend or cut/grind wrenches or sockets for particular jobs. Harbor Freight for the barely used power tools. If you used them a lot, it was just whatever brand seemed to have the best design.

HF did make a pretty excellent roll-around toolbox for a few hundred bucks, but I think they sold so many they raised their prices on them.

Did some more tempering today.

Calves are better today than yesterday, middle of the back had some knotting, and my back popped like a bowl of rice krispies.

After some time, nothing will be a bother except little knots that crop up. I can't express enough how underrated it is for creating a stress and adaptation on the body with no effort expended.

I'm excited for you to put in the time with this thing, because I know you're in tune with your training and you see things through once you start them. I think you'll show excellent results from it.

Ehrmagerd someone doesn't absolutely love a PES release.

Let's attack him for not immediately spending his money without thinking about it first!

Wrong thread?

Nope, this is where I meant to out that.

Just expressing my frustrations with a certain group of fanboys without unnecessarily clogging up a companies thread.

I just caught up on that.

I used to mix protein with cold leftover coffee all the time and actually liked it. I hate sweet coffees though.

If you jump on it and don't like it I'll trade you for it. I bet my wife would love it.

Cafe style proteins to replace coffee.

100mg caffeine, 20g protein, and coffee flavors.

There is nothing at all wrong with this type of product, but honestly it appeals more to like a fit mom, or weekend warrior who uses very little stims. That's at least what I've seen from the other brands that already do this.

PES used to be one of my favorites, but I am not impressed at all with the reformulations.

I don't think the product is bad, just not convinced it is what I'm looking for.

I agree with the second statement. I think the products are still good, but the old stuff was really good.

That's all I had time for today, including warm-up this was around 90 minutes.

Was a little ambitious on the secondary squat weight, wanted sets of 5 lol.

I vote man thongs for the whole crew.

Haven't updated in a while, been busy.

Things may get sporadic in here as I try to adjust to school for the first time in 6 years.

ME Bench Wednesday and DE Lower Thursday went well. DE Lower again on Sunday was good, didn't have time for ME Bench today and plan to do it tomorrow.

Will be doing heavy Squat + DL with kleen on Wednesday.

At least you have a badass gym in your living room.

Also, my knee hurts a lot today. I think it's just from fatigue, maybe the weather, Idk.

I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night, and woke up a lot in the night and woke up in pain this morning.

Hasn't hurt like this in quite some time.

Knee feels better today.

Squats felt good, DLs were slow.

Nice lockout on your pull. Squat was fast but I can't tell if it's deep enough from the angle and distance. It was about hitting your towstraps.

It looks like it's just there, but the video is also taken at a standing position, which makes it a little harder to judge.

Either way, I've not had depth issues at a meet before *knock on wood* so I don't worry about it too much in training unless it's way off.

You fckin crushed that squat. My inferior phone didn't let me view your pull.

Yeah, squat feels right on track.

Deadlifts feel slow and heavy.

But, deadlifts always feel heavy in the gym for me. I almost always lift 60+# higher on the platform than training with a deadlift. Squat and Bench are much more modest differences, typically. (15-20# on bench, and maybe 40-50# on squat)

Well at least your PRing on the platform haha only my deadlift seems to work this way. I need to take notes James

Yeah, I guess I always peak pretty well.

Except for Bench, it's really variable. Like my first meet was great, hit like a 30# PR. My second I only hit my opener (20+# lighter than the PR I had hit earlier that year), then my 3rd I matched the 253 I hit in the first meet (post injury), and then the 275 at this last meet (where I think I only got up to 245 or so in training).

DE Upper yesterday went pretty well, back, Tri, and delts after.

ME Lower today was OK.

Wife is telling me to order a power rack. Quick, point me in the right direction.

This is what I went with:

Rogue is good, will get to you faster, but is a little pricier for some of the options.

Ugh. I like the price but it's 2" too tall.

I think they have different racks with different customizable heights, no?
