Jim's Powerlifting Training

I've always rooted for Jerry, probably because he's an American competitor, but I have to say again after getting to be around Eddie at the Arnold he's so cool you couldn't NOT be on his team.

Have you watched Eddie, Strongman? So good.

I haven't.

Might have to watch it, but tbh Eddie has never been one of my favorite strongmen.

No real reason why, and the dude is definitely strong as ****, I just never was a huge Hall fan.

Very well might be different if I had met him though.

Just google "Stream Eddie strongman" and it's like the third link to a legit free site to stream it legally w no sign up. Excellent documentary for any strength sport fan.

In regards to eddie.

Truthfully, I don't think Shaw is too worried about it.

Without Z competing this year, I'd be surprised if he didn't win WSM.

Yea I think I would agree. I'm also thinking shaw has a 500kg pull in him. He came in second at the arnold, but he pulled with a ton of speed in comparison to hall. Sucks that z pulled out though.

Yes, but Hall claims that the wobbly bar at the Arnold throws off his pull and he doesn't benefit from it as much as some others.

He had straps up for this 500kg pull though, you can see how he had to twist to get to the bar. At the Arnold he looks like he doesn't even have suit bottoms on.

Kind of surprising the suit smoothed him out, really - his transition is pretty seamless. Every time I watch I'm like wtf lol

Yeah, I hear he passed out after the pull. No surprise there, im sure that was 100% effort.

Yup he did. I saw the full vid today. After about 2-3 seconds kneeling over the bar he just collapsed on top of it like a wet noodle. Epic pull it was.

ME Bench

w1. Face pull: Micro x 20 x 2
w2. DB Rolling Tri: 20 x 15 x 2
w3. Underhand fat bar Pulldown: 60 x 20 x 2

CG Band Bench (TPB, Feet up, against reds): 20kg x 10, 60kg x 5, 80kg x 2, 90kg x 2, 100kg x 2, 102.5kg x 2

DB Bench: 75 x 12 x 2
WG Swiss Bar Pulldown: 100 x 20, 110 x 15, 110 x 12

TRX Row: BW x 13 (F)

Didn't have a whole lot of time today, but I got it in.

That's a solid effort Jim. How did you set up those bands?

So not quite doubled, but still plenty of tension. Figure a little over 125kg at the top?

I don't think it would've been quite that much, although I'm sure it's possible.

Maybe closer to 115kg or 120kg?

Maybe. You could fish scale it to see or measure to estimate. Doubled is usually 65# at the top.

Tough DE Bench session today. Rearranged my training week a little, 12 weeks away now and starting to feel good again.

Anyway, 75 minutes total for this (including warm-up).

w1. Lat Pulldown (wide, OH): 70 x 20 x 3
w2. Band Pushdown: Purple x 20 x 3
w3. TRX Scarecrow: BW x 20 x 3

a2. Seated Cable Row (chinning triangle): 120 x 15 x 3

High Lateral Raise (T202): 12 x 15 x 2

Rope Pushdown: 40 x 25, 14

Wanted 50 on the Pushdown in as few sets as possible, but was feeling really nauseous on the back half of this one.

GHR (knees in pad): BW x 8, 6, 7 (3 x F)

Belt Squat: 180 x 60sec x 2

And that was all I had time for. Took a lot more time working up than I usually would as I wasn't sure how much I'd be able to do. Overall, not a bad day. No pain with the squats at all today.

w1. TRX Row: BW x 20 x 2

Was supposed to be a 60 second set but I couldn't do that much weight. Was only a big enough break to switch the pin (~3 seconds).

Was a good one today, and I'm pretty sure that would be a PR weight for a double even with a full comp setup.

EZ Bar Rollout: BW x 9, 6

Had a little but of ramping on the deadlifts. Will have to iron that out before the meet. It isn't uncommon after I hurt my back, it's like my body believes that to be safer or something....

RDLs felt good, but the forearm pump was too much to get any more.

Not bad, but not great either. Tried moving the feet out a little on DL and had no power so I moved them back and hit the double.

Was much slower than it should have been.

Will be pulling a heavier single (190 or so) on week 6 after a heavier squat (185 or so).

Last heavy pull will be week 4, so about 3.5 weeks before the meet and it will be from a deficit as the main lift.

Nice. The only issue i see is who you're going to have temper you. Is the wife that much of a hoss? (I mean that as a totally positive thing).

Wasn't man enough to try the xwife on the calves though and had her use the cheater for that.

Cool. Thats impressive she's able to manipulate it. And yeah...the x wife on the calves is easily the worst part. My old boss at the chiro would just about try to crawl out from underneath the thing when i got down to his calves.

Edit: was today your first x-wife experience? Thoughts on it? Did it affect your workout either positively or negatively or no difference?
