Jim's Powerlifting Training

Leaning T when I get one.

Definitely a solid choice, one of the best on the market for sure.

Sold most of my stuff already, but if you are still looking for a rack let me know. Not sure the drive is feasible for just one piece of equipment, but it may end up saving some money for you.

You'll also note, there was no update today for training (again).

Woke up and removed the alternator on the Buick (wasn't particularly challenging), had it tested and it's working 100%.

So I had to chase some wires to figure out why the battery wasn't charging when it run (and why the alt couldn't keep it running). Found out that the volt light was burnt out and if it isn't working it doesn't complete the charging circuit. Spent all day working that dash off enough to finally deal with those lights and got them replaced and put back together.

Worked well enough to let me drive it around the block to see how it runs (still good, thank God). Found out the connections aren't good when I closed the hood and it cut the engine (had to keep the dash pressed in when the car shook or it would lose connection). So, I'll be pulling it again tomorrow to have it sent out to Caspers and have them rebuild it and send it back. Hopefully, it won't take me as long to get it off tomorrow since I'll know what I need to disconnect, but it's a tight fit behind there to disconnect the speedo cable and wires.

Wasn't able to get it titled either, because the place was closed before I got there.....

What a day

Yeah, it was a blast....

Got a new battery in her today and everything appears to be good. Volt light didn't cut off a single time (so it should be charging 100%) and all the other idiot lights appear to be working as well (so connection is OK).

Didn't lose connection when shaking the vehicle, slamming hood, shaking dash, etc.

So it might be ok. Didn't end up pulling the dash, yet, gotta talk to John at Casper's to figure out if they can fix what I need (the electrical sheeting on the back isn't in great shape).

Trained today! Woohoo!

Also, got some car stuff done (inspection/title/registration etc.)

You opened my gift?

SSB oly squat: 126.5kg x 1, 100.5kg x 5 x 5 (3:24)

GHR: BW x 8

Short on time today, overslept a bit. Wasn't planning on too much more anyway, because I'm dead lifting Saturday.

Got in the Upper work yesterday, but didn't get around to updating

High Incline Axle CG Bench: 15kg x 10, 35kg x 8, 55kg x 3, 65kgx 1, 75kg x 1 (overwarmup), 60kg x 8 x 5

Strict Axle OHP: 35kg x 8, 45kg x 10, 45kg x 8 x 2

a1. Hammer Curl: 20 x 12, 25 x 12
a2. Rope Pushdown: 40 x 15, 40 x 13

Been awhile on strict OHP lol. Felt hard.

Today with Kleen, was a pretty long session because of some setup work (had him try my oly shoes too, to see if he would benefit from getting a pair of his own for squats). Wasn't really trying to change his technique, just work on some setup tips for the deadlift bar and try to get him as tight as possible before initiating the lift. Everything moved really well, and I am envious of how flat his back can stay and still get the bar moving!

Deadlift: work up to 195kg x 1 with a belt/light hit of tork/hook grip

Felt pretty good, which I wasn't expecting considering I haven't deadlifted heavy in quite some time. Had great IAP today, even if I was pretty rounded to get my hips into the bar. I'm not too worried about that because there is 0 discomfort with this, and it helps me break the bar off the floor lol. Will post the video up in a second here, but everything felt good. This is heavier than anything I've ever pulled outside of a comp too, so that's cool.

Then :

Pendlay Row (axle): 65kg x 8, 65kg x 8, 65kg x 7

NG Chins: BW x 8 x 5, BW x 6s

BB Shrugs: 120kg x 6 x 3 (hook grip on last set)

Had a pretty good session overall. Will have to do it again sometime before the meet (although, with more work and less talking lol)

Super smooth man.

Do you have a mental block every now and again regarding your back?

Started intensification today, just 4 weeks before 4 more weeks of accumulation. Then meet prep.

SSB Oly Squat: 28kg x 8, 78kg x 3, 128kg x 2, 158kg x 1, 168kg x 1, 178kg x F,

Drop 15%: 143kg x 6, 143kg x 5

Belt Squat: 180# x 12 x 2
RH: 150 x 15

That's it. Just had an hour today because I had to be in early for the holiday.

Have to be in early again tomorrow, but should have a little more time for upper work.

ME Upper today, didn't have very much time at all. Worked a 12 hour shift (14+ with commute/lunch) and didn't get to bed until 0730.

Slept through the alarm and didn't have much time, was actually late to work lol.

Swiss Bench:
15kg x 15
55kg x 5
85kg x 2
105kg x 1
115kg x 1 (253#)

Drop 15%
96.5kg x 6 x 2

CGBP (Axle): 75kg x 10 x 2, 75kg x 3 (failed 4th lol)

And that was it. Wanted some Pec/Delt work, but didn't have time. Will try to squeeze some in tomorrow with back day.

Do you do any preworkout?

He does preworkout like this.

Do you do any preworkout?

Usually I use non stim (max reps, recently).

I don't much care for stimulants pre training, but recently I've been using the new white flood (which I plan to create a log for, haven't forgotten Sean just been busy).

I don't drink any caffeine throughout the day either.

Ever try what Chad Smith does and implement it on meet day?

I remember him saying it's a mental thing during training. No amped up music and just a cup of coffee for training, then meet day he would take a huge bit of caffeine (upwards of a gram I think)

Remember supermanjow on here? I he posted something once about strategic caffeine dosages for peak strength.

Hmm, might consider that when the meet starts coming up.

I usually use caffeine during the roughest part of meet prep, but I could probably get by without it....

DE Lower today (doing DE work during intensification)

Hi Bar Squat: 65kg (+reds) x 2 x 10

Con. DL: 135kg x 1 x 8

A little heavy on the deadlift, but I'm really trying to work on setup so I need it to be heavy enough to carry over.

Trying to drop the hips a little lower and get more leg drive with a flatter back.

Will take some work.

Swiss Bench (against orange band): 62.5kg x 3 x 9 (137.5#)

Hammer Grip Chins: BW x 8 x 3, BW x 10

a1. Facepull: 40 x 20 x 2
a2. DB Row (strict): 55 x 20 x 2

Lateral Raise: 20 x 15 x 3

Took a little more rest today with the assistance work (not on the main lift though), lazy Friday lol.

Nothing today, got up early and went to Houston Strongest to watch a buddy compete.

Looked like a pretty well run show, with a ton of competitors. Was one guy who passed out on stones and hit his head pretty hard, EMS took him to the hospital but he was responsive and gave a thumbs up as they pulled him out so he should be OK. Ended up with second place, even with the failed stone load.

65 minutes today. Thinking about signing up for a Strongman comp in July. Depends on what the events/weights are, and how soon I can find out.

35 minute back day today.

Axle Pendlay Row: 55kg x 8, 65kg x 8, 70kg x 8, 75kg x 8

Swiss Cable Row: 100# x 12, 110 x 12, 120 x 12

a1. DB Shrugs: 60 x 15 x 2, 70 x 15 x 2
a2. Rear Delt Pull apart: Red x 25 x 4

Good, quick assistance session.

Planning on doing the Branch Warren Strongman show. Events aren't set in stone at this time, but the deadlift is a last man standing 18", which seems relatively safe.

Don't know what the minimum opener is yet though, and that will be a big part of the show for me.

Either way, I'm signing up for it and if it doesn't feel right during warm-up I'll just pass on that event.

I'm not going to this one to win, just trying to get my feet wet and have a little fun.

GHR: BW x 12, 10

Only had 40 minutes today. Had to run to the school for some stuff, ended up not being able to get anything done so I just wasted my time.

Deadlifts felt good today, working on getting my hips lower, lumbar flatter, and driving the heels.

Swiss Bar Bench: 65kg (+orange band) x 3 x 9 (3 sets at each handle, ending with the strongest grip)
Seated DB OHP (w/Back): 45 x 10, 55 x 10, 60 x 10

Hammer Grip Chins: BW x 8 x 3, BW x 6

a1. Lat Pulldown (Wide/OH): 120 x 10, 110 x 10, 100 x 12
a2. Band Facepull: Green x 25 x 3

Heading out to Conroe tomorrow (bout 1 hour drive) to sign up for that strongman show and get some training in. Not sure what yet, but whatever it is will be speed/conditioning work with moderate weight. If I can narrow down the other events at the show, I'll likely train those. If not, it will probably be speed runs with the farmers handles, maybe some log press, and likely some tire flips.

Oh yeah, and biceps.

Didn't get up early enough to drive all that way for training, so I just did my usual arm/chest work today.

EZ Bar Curl: 45 x 10, 55 x 10, 65 x 10, 75 x 10

a1. V-Bar Pushdown: 70 x 12, 60 x 15 x 2, 60 x 12
a2. Hammer Curl: 20 x 20 x 3

Stretcher Push-ups: BW x 20, BW x 15

Just another quick 30 minute accessory session. Then got some crawfish and talked to a buddy about the strongman show (Branch Warren).

Planning to sign up for it this week (still), and that should give me at least a few weeks to practice the events some. He's helping the promoter with the events/weights so we were talking about it today.

Sounds like the events will be:

Stone over Bar (max reps): 225# stone is what I think he said
Last man Standing 18" Deadlift (150# opening weight)
Farmers holds for time: 250# per hand
Press Medley: Log 1 Rep, Keg 1 Rep, Circus DB max reps
Arm Over Arm sled pull

So, not too bad as far as the events go. Not sure about the press medley weights, but I'm sure they will be heavy as f*ck.

Found some water damage in my living room wall today.

Not sure how long it's been there, I'm not in there very often.

Filed a claim with USAA, and will get a call on Monday for whatever needs to be done with that. First time dealing with anything like this, so I don't really know how this is going to go.

I imagine it will be expensive.....
