Jim's Powerlifting Training

Sounds like you should have just taken the dive into shame and replaced those jack stands with cinder blocks, Jim. Hahahaha

I don't think it's gotten quite that bad yet.

No training today, will do ME Upper tomorrow instead. Had to do some maintenance on the car before work, and didn't have enough time to get it in.

You getting an upgraded master clutch cylinder for the goat? I've heard they are a necessity (the weak factory pressure isn't enough to let you up shift quickly at high rpm and tends to cause issues getting into first and reverse). Only ever had F and Y bodys though

It's not the cylinder that's the problem, it's that they use rubber lines for a pressurized hydraulic system.

I might replace the lines in the future, but not this time. Spending enough to replace the clutch and slave cylinder as it is.

Actually trained today.

Been fairly lazy last few days and didn't really feel like doing anything but playing Xbox lol.

ME Lower

w1. KB Swing: 24kg x 15 x 2

GHR: BW x 12, BW x 10 x 2

50 minutes from start to finish. SSB front squats suck. Quads are pumped up and my whole posterior chain is wrecked ATM.

You know I have to do a quick 2.2 multiplication in my head every time I go to read your main movement, Jim. Just so you know the struggle

Kilo to pounds conversion is the real world math that should be taught in school. Not damn geometry, when's the last time my really depended on knowing what a circle is lol

When do you ever hear someone use kg (in the US) outside of weight lifting?

...but I agree with the nonsense of school taught math.

People can't spell these days, nor does their vocabulary allow them to not use abbreviated 2-3 letter words like u and k.

He probably buys drugs in bulk.

Speaking of vocabulary (or the English language in general), there is a manager at my workplace who recognized his receiving supervisor for "keeping receiving errors below 10 for 3 months in a roll"

I just don't understand how he could really believe that's how you say that.

And would put that not just on the wall at our DC, but also on the corporate website for that program.....

All joking aside, good job to the employee. He's on a row.

Jim, I'm looking at buying three different bars for a home gym. I'm going to get the ODB, beater bar (for benching?) what bar would you get for squatting? Obviously I want center knurling...

You could just get a TPB or OPB for both bench and squat.

That's what I use right now.

Or the bulldog squat bar is sweet, and that's what I plan on using for squats whenever I decide to buy one.

ME Bench day from today, and it was a good session.

Was real busy yesterday so I wasn't able to train. Had to run to the college when I got up (trying to get everything set to start in the Fall), then wife and I took her mom out to lunch for mother's day (she lives about an hour away), then grocery shopping and whatnot.

So I combined the sessions today.

CG Axle Inc. bench : 63.5kg x 1, 56.5kg x 8 x 5

a1. 1 Arm DB OHP: 45 x 10, 50 x 10

Good session. Not sure how long it took, but we were moving at a good pace. Got a solid pump, and now I'm putting the finishing touches on this homemade ramen to eat in the next hour or so.

Post a pic of the grub. I wanna judge you for taking the time to homemake something you can buy for 10 cents a pack lol

ME Lower

w1. KB Swings: 24kg x 15 x 2
w2. BSS: BW x 12 x 2

Back Ext: BW x 15 x 2

SSB Parallel Box Squat: 28kg x 10, 68 x 8, 98kg x 6, 128kg x 6, 148kg x 5

Banded GHR: Red x 10 x 3
Rev. Hyper: 200 x 20 x 2

Ouch.

Sounds like fancy noodles lol

Are you just using the box as a depth reference I assume?

They were some fancy noodles

No, I just don't like to pause for very long on the box lol. I do them with a much wider stance and really try to stay upright and keep the shins as vertical as possible.

Lots of people mess up on box squats by pausing too long. Hit the hamstrings on the box first, release the hips until the ass hits and immediately reverse. Most people spend way too long and make an 8 inch rocking motion. In reality the bar should only rock a couple inches before you reverse.

I have to avoid the word rock like the plague to get people to do it correctly.

Yeah, I try to not rock at all if I can help it.

I did them a little differently today as I tried to stay more upright than my usual squat technique (box or comp).

They messed my legs up pretty good.

ME Upper:

w1. DB Floor Press: 55 x 12 x 2
w2. Band Facepull: Red x 15 x 2

CG Axle Pause Bench (2 Count): 15kg x 10, 65kg x 8, 95kg x 6, 97.5kg x 4

a1. DB Incline Bench: 55 x 12, 60 x 12
a2. NG Pullup: BW x 10, BW x 8

Lat Pulldown: 100 x 18, 100 x 10 (Rest Pause) +6

45 minutes total. This one was rough, pump was/is painful af.

Made some more ramen last night.

Broth wasn't quite as good because it was just a dashi stock instead of boiling pork/chicken for 6 hours lol.

Still delicious though.

Mmm, carbs.

That does look better than 10 cent "ramen" lol

I always try to sit back more than a comp squat and pause for a 1ct and really focus on exploding from my hips to avoid that rocking motion like Herder mentioned. Just a moment to break up some eccentric but not touch n go either. Forces me to be explosive from the very start to make up for that momentary pause if I'm going to stay upright.

Upper:

Band Pushdown: Purple x 100

a1. Hammer Curl: 25 x 15 x 2
a2. EZ Bar Curl: 35 x 12 x 2

b1. Dips: BW x 15, BW x 11
b2. Pec Flyes: 20 x 15, 20 x 10

30 minutes.

w1. KB Swing: 24kg x 15 x 2
w2. BSS: BW x 12 x 2

SSB Oly Squat: 126.5kg x 1, 100.5kg x 5 x 5 (4:21)

Overslept today, only had 30 minutes so I worked through what I could work through.

Awesome job for the time man. Good hustle

Would've at least wanted to get the DL in too, but there was no way I was doing that and still getting to work on time lol.

Will probably add some RDL to my back day to make up some of the lost volume.

Busy weekend, didn't get anything done.

ME lower

SSB Box Squat: 28kg x 10, 78kg x 6, 108kg x 6, 153kg x 6 (PR)

SSB GM: 78kg x 8, 98kg x 8

RH: 200 x 15 x 3.

And that was it. Was short on time today because I had some stuff I had to do after waking up.

Every time you do that, God kills a kitten, Jim.

Ha!

I had to deal with Hagerty and TA this morning. Finally ordered the parts for my differential so I can finally drive the GN. (Well, on Friday/Saturday. Parts should arrive Thursday, and if weather isn't terrible I'll have it done Friday)

And had to get insurance for this:

I don't typically have a ton of time as it is, so I try to do most of my errands on the weekends but sometimes it's a little more urgent and can't wait a week.

w1. DB Floor Press: 55 x 12, 60 x 12
w2. Facepulls: Red x 15 x 2

CG Axle Pause (2 count) Bench: 15kg x 10, 65kg x 4, 85kg x 5, 95kg x 4, 97.5kg x 5 (PR)

a2. Swiss Pulldown: 110 x 12, 120 x 12, 130 x 12

Had to be at work early so I didn't have time for delts.

Busy few days with school stuff to get everything set for Fall.

Orientation and registration was today, and then I did some work on the GN before heading to work.

Was hoping to have it inspected tomorrow, but it looks like the alternator went out so it'll likely be another week.....

Oh well. Will hit some lower tomorrow and then Saturday will be Bench/Back work.

Going to pick up some gym equipment tomorrow. Bench, lat PullDown, leg extension, and some weight. Gonna start me a Jim Gym too.

Every time you do that, God kills a kitten, Jim.

Who likes kittens anyway?

Hell yeah!

Just need a rack now!

And a decent bar. The picture looks like it's a very light knurling, like the ones I saw at LA Fitness.
