Couldn’t sleep last night. Insomnia came on strong. Still haven’t slept. So I’m taking today as a rest day and hoping for better luck tomorrow.
Unplug from the electronics best you can

Yeah, it takes more than a day to get rested after a whole night of unrest and anxiety about if you are going to be able to fall asleep or not.

The anxiety is the worst part. Just compounds with the insomnia to make it even harder to fall to sleep. Especially when laying next to someone who is sleeping soundly.

Yeah my wife would complain about that. I would be passed smooth out and she would be looking at me irritated that I could sleep and she couldn't which just made things worse.

Couldn’t fall asleep again last night but slept from about 6:30a-12p. Figured that was good enough to still get a workout in. Not a bad day, all things considered.

Slept from 12:30a-6a and shot awake. Fell back to sleep around 9a-12p. Hoping that is what I needed to feel more rested. Legs today sucked butt.

Do you do your calves first because if you wait until the end you may not do them?

Also, does anybody know any good gyms in Manhattan? Moving in a couple of weeks and would really like to find a good place out there.

I’d assume there would be a lot of bodybuilding stuff in New York & Jersey

I’m not having much luck, but found a couple that look promising and aren’t too inconvenient. Wouldn’t be able to consistently make a commute out to Jersey from where I’ll be living, so I’m really hoping for something close to the office.

I have a feeling that if I’m not able to consistently go before work in the morning, I won’t be able to go at all.

That's sucks. I'm lucky in that my gym is literally a 1 minute walk from my house. I can drop whatever and go whenever. Sometimes go, don't feel it and come home after 10 minutes then feel better an hour or two later and go back. It's a godsend. If I had to travel to and from the gym, get changed, plan drinks etc. I just wouldn't maintain it.

Maybe get yourself a set of dumbells. I have some in the house, ideally I want some of those with the dials that cover a range of weights. I know it doesn't compare to an actual gym but if the only other option is to not go to the gym then at least you can do...

Chest press from the floor
Fly's from the floor
Overhead press
Lateral raise
Bent over rows
Bent over reverse fly's
Curls
Extensions
Goblet squats
Lunges
Calf raises
Good mornings

Maybe try and get to an actual gym once per week and fill in the rest with home workouts.

Early morning training ain’t so bad - you just have to keep going until you make it a habit. And you get the whole prep ritual dialed in, so you don’t have to think about what to do/take when tired.

Plus get used to warming up a bit more thoroughly. Doesn’t have to really take longer, but it becomes extra important. Winter mornings are the hardest, so if you can adapt through that it becomes so much easier late spring when you just wear gym shorts again, no warmup layers.

Yeah, until recently, my routine has tended to be training first thing. Just need somewhere that is convenient either to my apartment or to the office.

I just don’t expect evenings to be regularly free since the work culture in my industry doesn’t really support that.

I am guessing no gym provided by the building you will be officing in. I knew a few meatheads that lived on Staten Island and commuted into Manhattan but nobody who lifted there. I do think there was a Golds there in Times Square or right around there.

“Felt” my chest more during the session with the unilateral isolation work first. Will keep that order going forward and see what kind of progress I can make.

Last workout at Big Tex. Hitting the road tomorrow and spending a week or so in Houston. Will plan to find a gym close-ish for the next week and then I’ll be driving up to my new place in NYC.

If you get a chance let me know and we will work out together while you are here. Should be a fun session if we can get it in!

Absolutely. I’m expecting to be pretty free until I move. Just let me know what day works best for you.

You mean tomorrow or next Saturday? I am busy tomorrow, I have to take my car to the shop then go to the gym and get home in time to set up and start barbacueing for my nephew's birthday. I am actually pretty tied up both days this weekend.

Yikes. Ok. Maybe I can make it down to you at the start of the week then. I’m not expecting to be in town next weekend. Figuring I’ll probably hit the road on Thursday or so.

All of the arsenal equipment seems heavy AF unloaded. I do my first warm up on the pulldown with no weight on it at all...
Some of them aren’t as heavy (the low row, especially), but the ones that are heavy are heavy as ****.

True, the low row isn't that heavy, I just haven't quite figured out the best angle to pull on it yet. I guess it is kind of meant to build the yoke more than anything else, or at least it feels that way to me.

It is, but I like that one for a low lat row. Just requires some creative bracing on the pad and doing one arm at a time.

Yeah, I did it standing in an odd position and got the lower lat but it was so odd of a position I figured just go with the old school Hammer Strength Row.

Been getting settled into my new place this week. Still waiting on a bunch of furniture, but thinking I have time today to go check out a few gyms and (hopefully) get a workout in.

Also:

IMG_1654.JPG

Giving one of these meal prep delivery services a try. Hoping this will help me stay on track with a reliable diet since I don’t expect to have the time (or desire) to do a bunch of cooking each week.

30 meals for $195 (including shipping) seemed impossible to beat. Under $7 a meal is definitely something I can live with.

So, how do they tase or have you had one yet? My son is talking about getting a meal prep plan. He wants to watch his weight but doesn't want to deal with all of the hassle. So he wants an easy service. I am guessing the company is called Mic Drop. I am trying to look them up, but don't see them. Are they only local to NYC?

I just got them in. Haven’t had any yet, but I can let you know after I eat one today. The place is called clean eatz kitchen and it was by far the most affordable one I found with macro options I was happy with.

I think this one is the Cleaneatzkitchen.com Has some nice options and not too bad for the prices. Even the regular boxes actually all have high protein compared to other microwaveable options.

Did you buy the bulk boxes? They are pretty cheap that way, $7.30 a meal for the high protein and $6.50 a meal for the regular meal options.
