Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

Are you going to go w 37.5 eod?

I was shooting for 45mg (15 units of 300mg/ml), but I drew it a little shallow in the dark

I’m thinking ~45mg eod/4 days per wk for the moment, looking to be around 160-180mg test/wk. I want to give my body a moment to really be de-stressed, clean out efficiently, and improve my androgen sensitivity.

Perfect meet!!!!! That is badass man! Be proud of that work.

I really am. It also gives me hope for what is still possible for me in the future. I’m still getting better!

Fasted until 2pm today. Took 500mg carnitine preWO tonight and really pumped up during all this accessory bs. Also pinned 45mg testosterone today, so I’ll skip that tomorrow.

Man you’re cutting your weight down quick. Any plan on how low you want to go?

Plan for now is to get under 240 and then assess composition, current training goals, etc.
Yeah I was just curious, because I know you cut down into the 220s last time really quick, and looked really jacked at that weight. I just wasn’t sure if you were doing that again, or you had a competition in mind and didn’t want to drop too much weight to have to regain. I know you feel better at that lighter weight, and probably is a good idea to stay lighter until you have to bulk back up.👍

I guess if you think over 6 months is really quick, it was Honestly I do NOT feel really good in 220s. I feel tiny, my performance goes to **** between loss of leverage and fuel, and I’m very confident the extended deficit and lack of padding contributed to my adductor tear.

I do feel lightest on my feet at my lightest, but I can still feel good usually up to 250 or so with enough conditioning.

It’s going to really come down to what my lifting interest is at that time, honestly. I’m not 100% sure I want to get maximally heavy again too soon. So a 242 meet where I stay within 255 to watercut might be an option.

That definitely makes sense, because obviously you don’t want to go too low and lose too much strength to have to regain. I shouldn’t have worded it feel better being lighter, but it’s like you said being at what ever weight you can get and maintain optimal conditioning and health.

you guys crack me up, I definitely feel the best sub 180 but I'm crazy injury prone under 180. 200 is just a lot more fun and lifting heavy weights is a lot more fun than 6 minute miles and 40 pull up sets lol.
Were you more injury prone or doing a more injury prone type of workout? I would put my money on the latter. You were in on the old school beat your own ass until you have rhabdo Crossfit when rep count was more important than rep quality. That was an injury waiting to happen back in the day. Hence why it had to morph into something you no longer like as much.

That's true, but I actually got down to 168 before I ever even knew what xfit was old school bb style. Just cardio and deficits but my body definitely seems to be able to take more abuse with a little extra fluff in the joints

Oh no doubt! Injuries are definitely more likely for people who aren't naturally lean but are lean due to diet and exercise. The naturally lean guys not so much.

Hope you find a good balance of what weight you'd like to settle at for now and whatever kind of competition you'd like to do in the future.

It is interesting how different some people's preferences can be. I definitely prefer staying leaner/lighter and being able to do all sorts of different things, but I also don't tend to have much issue maintaining and building my strength with the right training efforts regardless of weight.

I know for deadlifting I don’t need to be very thick at all. I have pulled 628 weighing ~233. But bench and squat benefit from more thickness.

I guess it depends what all someone is trying to do. I don’t want to go skiing or running or enjoy any sports, and I can do things like hiking at any bodyweight, so I feel like I can do anything I want besides swim - I have far too much muscle to float, and treading water now takes a lot of energy that I can’t sustain very long. Pretty much once I was over 220 that ship sailed, besides swimming a lap I need a floaty for open water lol.

I think that’s it - it’s not that being leaner, 10-15% bf, is very risky; it’s being in an underfed state for too long. If the weight loss were more gradual, periods of diet breaks, it would be safer.

I’d have to count to 8 five times

This cracked me up

****, I can hardly swim at 195. Can’t imagine what it’s like for your big ass.

dude... what? 😅😅😅😅
aren't we the same height? 233 is still a monster of a man considering it's gym trained and not just a fluff muffin of cupcakes.

Same here, I sink like a rock. I can't even float on my back holding my breath. Swimming freestyle is like a full spped sprint just to stay above water. Now I still love being in a pool but I prefer it to be no more than 5' deep so I can stand.

Yeah, for sure, well I think he is 5'10, but the difference is probably about 8-10 inches less core bracing during the lift from his big boy lifts without too much of a drop off.

That’s the problem with 5’. It has to be a deep lake so you are forced to swim!

Lol, well I guess it’s perspective. You still want to build a thick resilient trunk to help enable a big pull, but you don’t benefit nearly as much from extra bodyweight or fat the way it can help in a squat or bench. It can quickly become a hindrance.

My ass is going to make a beeline for your boat so I can just hang off the side and rest!

Trying to do movements that challenge my elbow flexion to help strengthen where it’s weakest, so this session causes about as much fatigue from spikes of elbow pain as it does from hypertrophy. Been about 3 weeks of no barbell, so I will probably start benching on Halloween & begin full barbell work again after the Olympia.

Have you been back to the ART doctor since the meet?

Have you been back to the ART doctor since the meet?

Yep, this Tuesday - definitely felt good. Going back next Tuesday then we fly out Wednesday afternoon.

He said frequency should be based on my workload, which is low for me at the moment, so we’ll pick back up more as I get back into it.

I found out my insurance is covering 90% of the visits, and he’s been waving the rest of it, so all of my treatments are costing me ZERO out of pocket 🥳 You can tell he really loves working with athletes.

Now that is awesome, I am paying for my ART and then having it reimbursed via my FSA.

Think I nearly saw God on my final set of belt squats this morning. Went until I could barely finish a rep, then started shaking like a leaf as soon as I racked it. Immediately ate some glucose tabs and wafted some ammonia nearby to stay conscious & just sat for about 10 minutes recovering. Sunday seemed quite fitting for a religious experience

@Hyde are your hands on the handles during belt squat?

They are! I almost mentioned that today actually, since I’ve been doing it for 3 weeks straight now - I always do any Beltsquat work Hatfield-style.

Removing the stability aspect saves energy, which means I can handle a bit more load for a potentially better leg stimulus, & this is my primary loading movement right now. Worst case, I get a lat pump lol. Not like anyone is getting any awards for what they Beltsquat, so I want the most bang for my training buck.

Alright cool I appreciate the response because belt squat is the only squat movement I can do at the moment and I’ve been keeping my hands on the machine as lightly as I can just to stay in the groove.

Man that AMRAP Set of Belt Squats... BRUTAL! Well done Sir!

I was reflecting on why I took that set so hard yesterday, as I struggled to get up from a chair. Sometimes you just do it for love of the game 🤷‍♂️

I think that is why I do stuff like that probably 99% of the time. LOL Sometimes it just feels amazing to grind it out and see what you are made of.

if you enjoyed lifting the barbell one time, why not 18 more? It's like Lays potato chips, bet you can't have just one. 😅
idk about you but I often get a runners high on a big set and that makes it hard to put the barbell down too.

I think I get that after lifting in general often, but during the set it’s more like being in the zone, for me. I’m not making a lot of decisions usually, unless something starts hurting. I’m shooting for a predetermined number or effort threshold.

1st time benching a bar in over 3 weeks and down 15lbs, so I’m satisfied. 2nd rep on 3 plates was too hard to justify attempting the planned 3rd rep. Short on time, but 5x10 closegrip did a lot in a little. Left elbow is absolutely fried from the extra ROM. Glad I’m getting ART today.

Probably last session before we fly out to the Olympia tomorrow afternoon, with Halloween tonight & lots to pack still. Hoping to get a session in at Iron Religion at some point, since they have more machines than you can imagine & a lot of the pro bb’ers go there during the O. Last time TWO different recent Mr. O’s were there at the same time I trained for last minute work, and Roelly Winklar was in a photo shoot on the bench next to me & James Hollingshead was talking to me while he trained abs. Surreal.

Dang, I just need to travel around with you. Sounds like you have a lot of cool experiences.

That is awesome she got on the poster! Make sure you get a full size copy and frame it for her. Be a nice surprise on a rainy day!

Man, ART was a big help today for my left arm. He took care of a big adhesion on the inside of my bicep and loosened up a lot of junk in my forearm & tricep. That guy is magic!

Travel is what makes memories.

And the Arnold is something I always encourage lifters to go check out. It’s a neat expo that brings people from all over the world. Literally the largest concentration of steroid users in any one place or time

Right, Hyde rubbing elbows w the “who’s who” of BB

Like my wife’s old coach told me years back, everyone pulls their pants on the same way each morning, same as you or I. They’re all human.

When you start to appreciate that, take them off the pedestal & treat them like anyone else, you get to find out a lot more about who they really are as a person.

It’s generally accepted that there’s less than 0.1% difference between all human DNA.

Nice, like I said my ART guy is a life saver. I do wish he was covered by insurance though.

I read that and hear Broderick in my head talking about biology "You just aren't that special Snowflake!"

We made it to Orlando. Wife was 1lb overweight as of 10:35pm and weighins are 8am, so she should be good to go for that.

Man that’s awesome your wife is the cover of the poster, you’ve got to frame that. Hope she kills it in Florida.💪🏆

Just attempting that Belt squat 360x18 would of retired me, no wonder you saw God. He probably gave you a thumbs up while you were sitting, then told you to carry on with what you’re obviously gifted at.💪

Wow man, so cool that you're going to the O, and that your wife is on that poster! Freaking legit! Have a blast.

And honestly, in today's world your last post hits home. Too much taking sides, hate, focusing on differences in today's world.
