Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

02/12/19 - Day 14 of PCT, Day 2 of Rehab
Bodyweight 224.4

Had a big movement last night but felt like I ate a good amount too - did not expect another 2.5lb drop overnight. Decided on 10mg Ostarine yesterday as well.

This morning did about 20 min of band work for right upper body, felt like a waking limb!

About 2x25 each: Hammer Curls, Tri ext, Curls, Pec Flyes, OHP Press, Side Laterals, Rear Laterals, Rows w/ various small bands

Then massaged my left arm and did therapy - a huge progress from yesterday I felt.

10mg Osta, 20mg Mk, and now a 5mg shot of TB500 weekly (first week had 10mg divided). I’ll start pinning the area subq with BPC daily in a couple weeks.

Also a cup of blueberries daily, 10k IU D3, 10g collagen peptides, and a couple cups of green tea, and normal supps.

I am sure that big movement was welcome after being on pain pills for a bit... I know you got off but that can back you up for a week with just a couple days...

Kind of wild doing the SSB squats but then again, if there is a squat bar you can use with 1 or even no hands that is it!

Got a little weight on my back and got some good work in. First time hitting weights on my upper right since before the show, felt great. Ate a lot intentionally, especially carbs, last night to fill out a little better.

Kind of wild doing the SSB squats but then again, if there is a squat bar you can use with 1 or even no hands that is it!

It’s funny to me that people seem to think like that, but that’s the actual purpose of the bar! A buddy today, who was telling me he can’t gain weight right before this, says he can’t believe I’m squatting yet, that he would be at home watching movies. I’m like man this IS how you stay over 200lbs instead of the 160 I used to be. You gotta train!

Nice session! Those Db rows flat or on an incline?

Incline

Thank you, it was enjoyable. Going back tomorrow. I figure frequency is going to probably be a better bet than volume for now.

Bodyweight 224.0. Arm seems to be healing well. Incision coming along, wrist strength building, increasing ROM on all exercises continues, and just seems to be filling out more. I have to stay focused that I am regrowing and stretching a tendon that has massively less bloodflow, because all of the soft tissue is bouncing back fast.

Training when you can’t lift heavy (or with 2 hands even) is so easy...doing twice as many movements in a fraction of the time lol. Had fun though for sure. Squat more reps with more weight in less time significantly easier than last week, so will continue to gradually push the throttle there.

Hope everyone had as great a Valentine’s Day as I did!

You feeling okay? I dont know a Hyde that wanted to to be less than 200 in the years ive known you. Thought you wanted to be a beefy gorilla?

you know me too well bro! This is very temporary. Wedding is 3 months away, can’t train upper body for real, I could lose some fat - it’s a good time for a reset before I start putting mass back on in the second half of the year.

If you say so man, it doesnt seem like dropping 30 lbs is conducive to your long term goals or at least my understanding of them. Maybe ~210, but 260 and yoked is a long way from 198. I know you are well calculated with all your decisions though so do you brotha.

I understand that perspective completely - they are indeed different. I do want to be 260, but I also A. Don’t want to be fat AF (>30% bf) & B. Want to compete in more strongman shows. The truth is I am strong enough to get into most 220 & 231 shows but need to get considerably stronger to lift in a heavyweight class. I’m not talking winning, I just mean not zeroing any event generally too.

Took 2/3 scoop of The Blood Lord prior and a full scoop of CL’s GlycerGrow2 - man the pump was so real, especially wearing neoprene briefs (to protect from beltsquat cutting me again) that kinda trap the blood in the thighs. Trained to utter exhaustion today no doubt; beltsquat gets real at 12+ reps.

It’s so good. I basically forgot about it because it’s so high calorie I wrote it off, but it was on sale and I remembered how ridiculously good it is, in water or milk, stirred with Greek yogurt or just made into sludge. It’s a pleasure - I will make the room for the 200 cal/scoop and enjoy every bite.

Been putting Snickerdoodle ProMore in Greek yogurt with a packet of uncooked Quaker gingerbread spice oatmeal, a cup of blueberries, and a handful of Cinnamon Toast Crunch on evenings I want a desert meal - that has been the bomb.com!

Also, just finished cooking this southwest chicken chili:

I have been able to strict press 70s for 10-11 reps, but I was working with short rests on shoulders, and man doing just one arm with no counterbalance is tough! Happy overall

I bet the peeps at the gym are eyeballing you. The crazy fugger with his arm in a sling working out! Awesome dedication here!

Really fun day; everyone was kicking ass. Thought now seemed like a good time to play with the kettlebells, just feeling them out. Squat continues to feel lighter by the week despite adding another 20lbs; this is the 3rd week running through this micro cycle structure and it seems to be treating me great so not going to rush what’s working perfectly.

It is awesome to see you enjoying your workouts while injured. It is one thing to just stick to doing them. It is another to be able to enjoy them and not feel as though you are settling.

Yeah I really have been enjoying my gym time. Everybody is making gains and life is good!

I truly wish I had a nice group of people to train with. I can't imagine how much more motivating it is to have a supporting group of people around to work out with. Especially when you are injured that is when it seems that having a supportive group of people around would REALLY be beneficial! Even when I didn't want to train I would want to see and support my group and when i got there I would inevitably want to train.

I mean I get to squat so that’s pretty fun. I miss other stuff, pressing of all kinds especially, but as long as I have something fun to do I can build happily. But it is great when everyone else is building too. Fiancé pulled 315x4 after a bunch of triples between 275-305 on a stiffbar today, which means her max is around 360 there & 375 on a deadlift bar - that was exciting!

Congrats to her!!!

Yesterday focused on sleeping and resting to regrow my tendon, fasted about 18 hours so was able to create a pretty big deficit. Today been fasting 16 hrs so far and had a nice 40 min walk while I was out, but otherwise resting again. 3 lower days a week (M-W-F) has been yielding some excellent results.

Fun morning, feeling good. Never tried to frontsquat with the SSB - it was awful lol. Just worked up a hair to get a feel for it, no belt or rest but got the nervous system firing.

Met with the surgeon and he said everything is looking very good! Gave me a couple nifty new rehab movements to work in, and when I go back in 3 weeks I will get considerably more aggressive stretching movements (I also think I may be losing the brace at that time).

Good news! Psh, you’re going to be back in the game sooner than later my friend!

Good news from the surgeon boss. Good to see you doing cardio belt squats in the meantime.

Sounds exiting! Good to hear bro!

Thank you all for the support - I have been loving training lately, and loving the progress with my bicep!

Yeah, basically something they all do at Westside and Wenning’s Ludus Magnus now, love or hate. I usually crank up some metal and try to mentally dive headfirst into the burn! Work capacity is on the rise for sure.

Love the mindset, and jealous of your access to a belt squat...as ive repeated at least a dozen times over the years.

isn't the Reverse SSB FS supposed to be somewhat easier? ...sure doesn't look like fun.

That’s what I always assumed! But I was way wrong. It’s a nightmare to get in and out of the yoke, and the bar (just like on your back) sticks out further from your center of gravity. Only thing in its favor is ease of breathing.

Same. I wish more gyms around me would invest in belt squat machines.

The problem is all these plebs at the commercial gym have no idea what it is, so they don’t use it! The smith machine gets infinitely more use.

I know! It makes it so hard for me to find a place to train out here some times.

Fasted 25 hours yesterday and ate before bed, but overall felt pretty strong today. On this day I squat ultrawide and have the box set just above parallel, like a “deep” squat in a multiply powerlifting federation. This gives my knees a break between Monday and Friday and let’s me build more hip power and upper back strength with the higher loads. When I free squat on Friday in a more moderate stance, I will squat several inches lower, to proper depth. But I am enjoying this day a lot!

Congrats on the good follow up with the doc!

Weighed 222.8 this morning. Then I took my arm brace off and was actually 221.6 lol

I can tell by the mirror & shirt fit too that my belly fat has definitely been shrinking
