Hyde’s Strength Odyssey

I think my bench is right around my lifetime best of 336 - I won’t test it this cycle unless I am confident in a PR (340-345). It would be great but it’s not the priority right now.

In fact, I think all of my big 3 numbers are back around what I hit 1.5 years ago - if I peaked now, I could probably total 1,500.
Man would I love to get my max bench back up to 335+. I've fallen off the wagon a bit lately but am getting back on the horse!

Very nice work on getting them lifts back up bro.

Get your bodyweight up and starting strength training it religiously, ideally pressing at least twice a week.

Thank you; been a bit of a road but it’s been coming together again finally!

Truck Pull (Sled Drag with Rope)

~1,000lb (2 passengers)

Raced fiancé side by side every yoke run, barely lost every run I really appreciated the push though - always enjoy a good drag race! Also had to drag the sled back to the start without the rope or passengers between runs for some extra work.

POD got me so hyped with their new one, just like the old days!

12/30/18 - Day 63

Did some conditioning work with the gym crew, had a blast.

5 Rounds of obstacle course:
-Ascending box jumps
-Hurdles
-Ladder Drills
-Foot to box

then pushed the empty prowler slowly for 5 minutes, then 2-3 minutes of stairs, and finished with 18 min treadmill walking. Did some mashing afterwards and now carb loading for the Push-Pull Party tomorrow night - going for a PR log and a big deadlift!

Hell yah. Get it tomorrow dude! I expect 585 minimum.

Still rockin! You and Brandon Allen both have sexy spotters for bench handoffs!
Stoked for your big pull man. Killllll!!!!!

Yep, but mine can actually pull the weight off me if I pass out!

Well boys, gotta say New Year’s Eve was an awesome finish to the year - all the steady work this year is paying out. Lifetime best overhead press in any fashion and my deadlift in training is strong as ever, and I learned to hookgrip!

Smoked 600 and planned on a double but as soon as it came off the floor on rep 2 I lost my grip - should have strapped in! A great time and awesome to hit this with no peaking.

2018 has been very good to you! 2019 will be even better my guy! Man, congrats on both PRS that’s dope.

Hell yah! Good work dude. Lifetime dead PR coming soon!

Sinus pain and headache made today a rough one, but a healthy dose of stims helped me get the work done. Protecting an achey left knee tendon and doing what I can while giving it a break. Huge hamstring pump.

Tearing stuff up as usual! How you like those incline JM presses? My curiosity is peaked. That just sounds like a more natural movement on the incline.

Honestly we were rushing to finish before lunch and her dad had been incline benching so I just plopped down, used a closegrip, and tried to only use my tris to lower and punch the weight up. I lowered until my forearms and biceps naturally stopped my descent. Felt fine, but like regular incline if you get stuck you can’t really muscle it up the same way.

This would actually be a nice variation to standard incline “skull” crushers. I get better contractions on incline tricep movements more so than flat (ex; flat bench skull crushers vs incline). I’m going to incorporate these in Saturday

Congrats on the PR's Clayton!!! Impressed with the level of success you have had this year in all aspects of life!

Definitely easier on my elbows than laying skull crushers despite using so much more weight. Probably more direct transfer to pressing as well.

Thank you both very much!

This year has been a blessing - one of the best years of my life overall. I know there will be harder times ahead inevitably, so my task is to keep doing the things I have control over to maximize my ability to navigate through them later.

Should have just done light speed work and bro stuff - just felt weak after this week and could not get my pecs to feel good, which is never a problem. Even 275 felt heavy so was just going to do 4x3, but on last set felt a minor pec strain on rep 2 and racked it and dropped any further pressing. Didn’t really have any motivation to train after that (and still fatigued from the recovering sinus issue) so I got some good practice on my Continental clean and pumped some little muscles for recovery.

No bruising but I can feel pec being pissy on Flyes and such so just gonna rest it and pump it daily til it feels strong again.

Hopefully just a tweak and blip on the radar.

That sucks man. You did the smart thing though but stopping the pressing and potentially injuring it further. The blood flow to the area will pay off.

Got to touch a proper car deadlift this morning, which was perfect because it’s a very natural movement for me. Felt absolutely terrible from sinus stuff exhausting me, resting heart rate was stupid high from sickness and fatigue but I really needed to practice my Continental. Glad I did - a little 5lb PR and enhanced confidence going into the show that I can make the second pull. I can press anything I can get to the rack position.

Love the strongman routine. Can’t wait till I grow up and get strong.

Loving the training, so motivating to see the pics. Just looks fun!

It can really be, especially if training with other positive people that help motivate you. There’s also a ton of events so lots and lots of things that need work - and tons of ways to set new personal bests to track progress.

Ate a huge dinner and got almost 11 hours of sleep and feeling much better today after finally sleeping in. Training one more time tonight or tomorrow morning before mock comp Friday or Saturday.

If i can get myself healed up and fix some imbalances I have early on in the year I want to take some time at a strongman gym about 20 minutes from the house. My shoulders are starting to feel healthier as I improve my warm up process with more activation and joint centration techniques. Doing the same for my hips and weak glute issue. So hopefully at some point this year I can dedicate 3+ months to trying some strong man training.

Agree fully. Unfortunately I caught a pretty nasty stomach bug after the holidays and couldn't keep anything down for a few days so that didn't do me any favors at all. I'll be getting back at it fully shortly though. Best to rest it off then to push through with the dehydration and damage though.

Keep killing it my dude!

Hmmm, to use tomorrow or not??

Not looking to add it to the cycle, just for day-of-comp androgenic fury. Also, how they can sell methyltren otc in any form blows my mind ?

Excited to hear how the mock meet goes.

I vote use it if youve never used it before to get a gauge of it as a test run before the day of the comp. if not, then save it and know youre good for more than what you do in the mock comp. ORRRRR just use it and go berserk mode twice...just dont be stupid in your androgenic fury and hurt yourself on the mock meet day.

Lol just an active deload - specificity reigns from this point forward. If it doesn’t aid my end result at comp, it’s not a priority.
With the way you've been rolling I share his thoughts on being surprised you didn't set a PR even with it being a deload day!

Gollums voice: "Looks shiny! Is it "precious" to you? I want it!"

About $75 USD and they’ll ship international I believe...you have to Google it, because only a few online sites carry it. Medfit doesn’t even carry it on their own website. I realize many UGL provide mtren but Medfit is made in a GMP certified facility as opposed to on somebody’s counter top in a lab house.

Excited to hear how the mock meet goes.

Pretty excited to deadlift tomorrow first thing, but I know the day is going to be tough one overall. I’ve actually eaten until I started to puke my food back up at two different meals today, so I’d say the fuel tank is topped off!

How awesome is it? Did you try it?

How awesome is it? Did you try it?

I did, took 3 sprays with breakfast & then 3 more before leaving for the gym half an hour later, so 750mcg total per label. 1 use isn’t enough to get the measure of it, but I can say I had a really good morning. No rage, just positive energy and drive. Definitely going to use day of comp. Nasal spray delivery system is actually exceptional quality; doesn’t get easier - you don’t even need water like if swallowing a pill.

01/12/19 - Mock Comp
All events capped at 60 sec

Deadlift Medley
450 stiffbar hookgrip x1
550 axle 18” height w/ figure 8 straps x1
585 trapbar high handles x5

Carry Medley, 65-70ft
240 Keg
285 Husa - finished this around 44 sec mark
285 Husa - couldn’t repick this a second time, tried 3x but slipping

Yoke & Farmers Medley 70ft
645 & 230/hand in 29.91 sec

Sled Drag w/ Rope (Tractor Pull) 50ft
~1,100 fast and better than ever

Overhead Medley
235 13” Logpress
235 Axle Clean & Press
167 Sandbag Press
still had time to hit the Viking Press that will be there

Everything but the carry medley was a PR performance in time & execution. Food yesterday was spot on, sleep was a quality 6.5-7 hours, felt great after this week’s deloading - today I was firing on ALL cylinders and burning clean. Warmups were minimal like comp and did all events including warmups and setup/tear down in 4 hrs. Also tested some mods to my comp nutrition approach and they were perfect - it’s one thing to fuel and hydrate for 2-3 hours, but sweating hard over 4+ hours requires a bit more fueling to not fall off. A great day.

Bfast was 2 eggs & 4 small strips bacon. Before leaving for gym, ~40g Karbolyn. Intra was 75g Karbolyn in 80+ oz water with an extra teaspoon of salt on top of the usual 1/2 tsp of Morton Lite Salt. I had 4 glucose tabs to test with and took 2 after first 2 events (8g glucose per 2 tabs). I had such stable excellent energy and blood sugar all day.

Day of comp I will have 3 eggs if possible instead, ~50g Karbolyn first thing, take 3-4 glucose tabs after each event, and use 100g Karbolyn in 100oz intracomp. As well as keeping a few extra salt packets handy and some pbj and a bit of trail mix to nip hunger as needed.

Sounds like you are gonna put on a show in a few weeks!

Just gonna do my best and hope I can hang! Also hoping their yoke is a tad smoother and the carry medley goes better. My Husa is the slickest toughest model out there so I think I will be better off at comp.
