Going to be a Freaky Summer starting with Swole/HGHPro

You've got some seriously strong legs. My deadlifts are superior to my squats by at least 195lbs. My legs are thick, as a lot of pacific islanders are, but my quads just aren't very impressive strength wise.

Thanks, yah it's going well. I can't tell you how good it is to feel badass again and about 20 lbs leaner than last year at this time.

Much respect to ya Doug. You're a true inspiration to this board and its members. :box:

I also plan on staying leaner. No more bulking for me. I want to see the muscles I've worked so hard for. :bigok:

My deads will eventually pass my squats by a fair margin, at least it did when I used to use straps, I guess without it's going got be a lot closer.

Very nice DW. Great workout!!!

Thanks....

Thanks for the compliment, I like the thought of people being inspired by all my hard work. We're here to set an example and it makes me feel good that I am making an impression... especially at my age.

Yah staying lean keeps me tighter and more athletic year round and when I wan to get really cut it's a shorter journey...

X3!!!! Definitely a warrior!!! And an inspiration!!

A freaky summer indeed!! tearing it with that leg workout!!! Hellz yeah DW!

Same here I learned that lesson. For a competitor the extra fat may move more weight, but it takes way too much dieting , months to get it off. and I like being more on the lean side as it is from a health and attractiveness perspective.

Keep up the good work Doug you've got quite a team of supporters in here.

Add me to the list of supporters, I cherish your advice, and am still not drinking milk, although I secretly hate you for that advice as well o.O

I've started a new log also o.O Should be a good one

Good job DW.

Bit of a meltdown last night....

Deads 4 X 10

first set 340 X 8 not too bad but was shooting for 10
went down to 325 only 8 again...
Down to 315 got 9
315 meltdown only got 6

Push press Same weight as last week bombed on the first set 6-4-6, second I used my elbow wraps and got 8-6-6, then 6-4-4 another meltdown...

Seated row 6-12-25 X 2 up 10 lbs got all my reps

Decline tri extension 6-12-25 X 2 no increase got all reps...

Looks like it's catching up with me. I said in the beginning of this, that it's more about surviving. I did very well to be able to push the way I have thus far. Next training session will be in Ottawa at my friends new gym, I might be the first to train there....

Little poem I wrote a few years back going to bring it to hang on my buddies wall at his new gym.

The Beast

Lurking deep inside, an apparition from days gone by

A great source of power, a perilous source of aggression

Once needed for survival, now shunned and feared

The surging power of its will, replaced by modern conveniences

Many a warrior will heed it still, yearning for its overpowering influence

Not to be denied, the iron warrior will tame his inner Beast.

And with the power he has within, he will vanquish his limitations

Here's another...

A Warriors Tale

As he prepares himself the warrior is experiencing disquiet in his abdomen,
a chill running through his body

Each step toward the arena is closer to the source of his tension,
he resolves to bring with him all his inner strength

Gathering intensity,
he resolves to meet his task with full force

His feet hit the rubber mat,
he is focussed on his purpose

Putting fear aside,
he sets about his task

Using the fire he has inside,
he feels the cold iron in his hands

Fighting with everything he has,
dredging deep into his reserves he battles onward

Just when exhaustion threatens to overtake,
he reaches deeper still

Rivers of perspiration soil his mantle, spittle runs down his chin,
he searches for the beast inside him

When at last he can find no more strength,
he bows to the overwhelming difficulty of his undertaking

Feeling drained of energy yet at the same time exhilarated,
he leaves with his head held high

He knows a day will soon come when he will emerge completely victorious

But for now he takes comfort in his small triumph

man I love it when the Warrior Poet resurfaces!!!! been a while since you have posted those Doug!!

I never remember when and where I have posted them, but thought I would as the wife is going to print them off and were bringing it to decorate Marshes wall... That way even though I'm stuck in montreal and can't use the gym in Ottawa, my influence is still there.

how many of those do you have??? Would love to see a thread of just those... hint hint lol

The grand opening went well. This is the place, if things go well then I will be opening a franchise here in Montreal in about 3 years.

This is the dream, a real gym dedicated to the success of the client.

Starting to break down a bit I actually had to go down 10 lbs on bench as my shoulder was just fugged up. It's not overly painfull but it just won't support the weight, it's weak!

Down 5 lbs on the obar curls as well but they were very good reps and at 150 they were pretty damn sloppy. No real loss of strength here.

I had to rest pause the last set of side lateral raise but all in all it was a pretty good set. I was a bit tired from traveling and like I keep on saying this routine is about survival. You're not going to push it all the way.

That is a great goal to have and I hope you are able to do it. Looks awesome.

man that gym looks awesome DW!!!! Good luck with it my brother!!!

Thanks, we'll see how he does, training started yesterday... I wish I could be part of it. Oh well I gave him a pic for his wall and the poems, I'm there in spirit.

I have been part of his wall of fame for about 8 years now at the smaller gym where he's trained a lot of people, but I have been away from Ottawa for about 5 years. So a lot of people didn't know who I was, I told them what do you mean you have probably seen me 1000 times... lol

Fuggin sholder!! I started off with 320 on squats and the shoulder pain was just too much and I only made 7 reps!! The weight felt very light, so I would have gotten at least 350 for 10. Week 4 and I'm still looking for my cieling!! As it turned out, I had to convert back to front squats and finished the 4 X 10 at 230 which is damn good considering I haven't done them in a few months. Now that I am using knee wraps front squats will not be a problem should I have to continue with them. I know I can get my back squats way up past 400 for 5 reps though...

Standing calf raise up 20 lbs 4 X 10

Pec Deck 6-12-25 X 2 up 5 lbs across the board

Hammer curls 6-12-25 X 2 up 2.5 lbs accross the board

Body comp is pretty damn good I weighed in at 221 last Thursday and as of now I look a little more defined than I did when I started at 211 just over 8 1/2 weeks ago... I have been no saint with my eating but I have remained rigid with the daytime eating, 7 days a week. Taking the amino drink and plenty of protein I have been able to gain muscle while losing a tiny bit of fat. Now my increased muscle size may be what is making me look a little leaner. Anyway you cut it, I am one big motherfugger at 220.

man it makes me nervous when you start talking about your shoulder pain my friend!!! I know you know this, but nice and slow... great lift other wise!!! :)

Doug you are about my height and have nearly 35 pounds on me; I don't doubt you are one big SOB!!!! Keep killing it.

Yah this shoulder I injured over 2 years ago and I have been trying to get my strength back, but it's being stubborn.

Takes years to got get there, I have put the years in. After contest it's almost like newb gains again...

Poems and gyms just don't sound right together LOL.

Treat that shoulder with love =)

Even though I am growing to hate the fugging thing!!?

Yah both my shoulders are damn sore and if they don't recover by tommorow there will be no push press.

230 front squat at 52 is pretty impressive there DW o.0 Easy on that shoulder!

That will go up now that I am using wraps, that's the one drawback with front squats... it's harder the the knees.

DW just proves and inspires us older guys that we can still strive for our best!!!

Somebody's gotta do it...:stooges: Plenty of inspiring old fuggers around here though... I may be the a little older than most though... :ponder:

Last night was a better than average night ...

Reverse grip pull downs.. 8-4-4 X 3 up 5 lbs 8-6-6, 8-4-4, 6-4-4 my upper back was screaming, now doubt I hit the spot up a total of 30 lbs on this exercise...

Decline close grip bench 8-4-4 X 3 no increase 8-5-5, 8-4-4, 8-4-4 was a real battle that last set..

Wheel of death 6 reps up a couple reps from last week, core is still pretty trashed.

Deads tonight!! I will play it by ear on the push press as my shoulders are still pretty fuggin tight.

If anyone questions DW's beast status they will have to come at me! Jeez you kill it man, makes me want to lift today on my off day! Never tried the decline CGBP, need to give that a shot. How do you like it? How does it differ from a flat CGBP in terms of muscle activation?

I like the Decline close grip as well. Hits the tri from a slightly different angle.
DW you and that wheel of death... makes me want to cry everytime you post that. Knowing you do it from the standing position just floors me!!!

It seems to isolate the triceps a bit better... I have been working a steeper decline and it seems to get more difficult, where as regular decline bench gets easier.

They pretty much floor me as well, Hey! forgot to mention I tried out the tortoise this weekend and man it is a must have. Way more control than with the wheel but far more range... this is something we should all be using...

He's such a perfectionist, they can't get the wheels the way they want them so it's still pending.
