I commend you for acknowledging it. I completely understand how it happens. What concerns me is that it tends to devolve our language and communication skills, as now some of these "text" words are becoming recognized as legitimate words and included in dictionaries. Kids learning basic launguage skills have no solid foundation to start with, even from their parents, as they are as guilty as most kids.

When texting devices (ones in my budget) were limited (10key) I refused to buy a texting plan with my provider simply because of that aspect of it. Once, seemingly every had a qwerty keybaord, I agree to get an unlimited texting plan. I still communicate with complete words for the most part but I do use it for abbreviated words or terms.

I Love You: I<3U

:D

Well, with the advent of smart phones and autocorrect, the abbreviations are going away slowly but surely .. :)

I type pretty formally at all times except for texting. I see no harm in texting in code, especially when you factor in how small the keys are, the fact you're hunting and pecking, and also texting is usually done on the run, not while sitting at your computer (not to mention screen sensitivity or lack thereof, how badly inaccurate keys are).

David,, also keep in mind, the majority of people are using phone apps to post these days,, so it comes natural to want to treat it like texting ... I work in a juvenile correctional facility, so I truly see the face of illiteracy every day,, I do get your point, to a point :)

This is definitely a more casual form of communication,, I don't really feel the desire to read elongated scientific journal style writings on a forum .... keep things simple, friendly, concise and informative is all I ask... :)

That is kind of a contradictive statement when you consider the fact that you started a thread where you wanted to discuss the issue of amino acid receptors. You went from absorption, to consumption to digestion and from receptors to transporters.

This casual "you know what I am trying to say" communication style tends to lead to miscommunication and your thread was a perfect example. Mean what you say, say what you mean - clearly - it matters.

I get your point. You affirmed my point - it is becoming natural to have poor writing (therefore communicating) skills.

EDIT: I just had the revelation of me trying to reason with my son who is about your age - it is pointless - you are much smarter than your parents. :)

That thread was me asking about something I didn't know a lot about,, you gave me a hard time about not knowing what I was talking about. If I knew what I was talking about I wouldn't of had to post the questions. I don't come on the forum to brag about what I already know, I come here to get information about stuff I don't know. In doing that I'm gonna have some dumb questions, I'm gonna make statements that don't make sense and I'm gonna misuse some terminology.. it's part of the learning process.

Douchebag forum grammar nazis who try to bust people's balls for everything to make themselves seem like they're actually worth a damn.... douchebag forum know it alls who, instead of being friendly and informative, just put people down because they've been on here since "before text messaging" .. as if it even matters :P

Seriously.... whole page of grammar discussion that stemmed from hurt feelings.
It's the internet man. Go back to your normal life :)

It's a thread on forum douchebags.... I think I made a valid point,, anyone who tries to take the fun and friendly exchange of information out of this forum by being a forum nazi, of any sort, or puts anyone down for not knowing as much as they do, is a douchebag!!

No feelings were hurt at all,, I'm not that sensitive,, sort of just stating the obvious!

I'm certainly not a kid!! Lmao!! I have a degree, own a house, have a girl, a kid and a very professional administrative career .... I may be new to ph's and AAS's, but that doesn't mean anything about anything other than just that!!

You guys know the drill.

I'll share mine:

Gym Douchebag Thread Starters - not just you, there have been dozens over the years. Mind your own business in the gym. The world is full of douchebags and the only thing worse than a douchebag is someone who actually believes that they are a superior individual and do not embody douchebag behavior characteristics themselves.

Work Douche Thread Starters - see "Gym Douchebag" Thread Starters above

Illiterate Thread Starters (posters) - the education system has failed us and technology has only perpetuated the problem. Run on sentences, no punctuation, incomplete words and text gibberish is the very most annoying traits of these douchebags. They also tend to have an affinity for a serious lack of comprehension of language and communication skills in general.

How Do I Change My Screen Name Thread Starters - seriously, you have no idea. Combine this with Illiterate Thread Starters (posters) and it can be a challenge at the very least.

Lol i shoulda known id get a comment like that from you in return. It's too early I got nothin right now ;-)

I got one that drives me nuts. All the abbreviating! Laughing out loud (lol) is one thing but when you have to use a secret decoder to read a ****ing thread with valuable information, it sure gets annoying. I'm slightly at fault lately as I start using ed and eod when discussing cycle info, ugh maybe I'm just not hip enough! Lame

In that case, WTF does ITT mean??

Ed and eod are good, purposeful acronyms,, but I'm with enhanced,, what does "ITT" mean?

With the advent of touchscreen smart phones and autocorrect, the old school texting shortcuts are finally going away,,, thank God!!

Like I mentioned in that thread...I really dig the character of David Dunn and his character traits. I've never ever been one of those alter-ego superhero comic book kids growing up but between the movie and the character profile I was like "yeah, that's me!" :)

You'd have to know me and my life a bit more on a personal level but his character life and traits parallels mine in many aspects - sincerely, with the utmost humility.

It's my favorite movie too.

Your suppose to be getting a sequel. ;)

That has long been my hope.
He originally intended to make “Unbreakable” into a trilogy, with two sequels tentatively titled “Unbeatable” and “Unstoppable” which would focus on David Dunn’s exploits with the next segments of the aforementioned comic book structure (his struggle against regular criminals and the final climax against his arch-enemy). But the lack of commercial success for “Unbreakable” prompted him to shelve the rest of the project. Shyamalan however has stated that he does hope to someday revisit David Dunn in a sequel movie.
Do you have any information to substantiate what you are saying?

Shyamalan: Unbreakable Sequel Will Be Different Movie
By Graeme McMillan | @graemem | September 3, 2010

"Even though he may have lost credibility (and popularity) with movies like Lady In The Water and The Happening, one question that follows M. Night Shyamalan around has always been whether he’ll ever make a sequel to Unbreakable, his second (and, in my opinion, best) movie. After years of teasing, it seems that the answer is yes… and no. Shyamalan will be making the movie, he says, but it won’t be an Unbreakable sequel. Confused yet?

Talking to MTV, the director explained:

I cannibalized the idea for the sequel to Unbreakable for one of the ‘Night Chronicles’… I fleshed it out more and more, and thought, ‘This could be a standalone movie.’ I’ll just say it: the third ‘Night Chronicles’ movie is what would have been the sequel [to Unbreakable]. So now I need to come up with a new idea [for any future Unbreakable sequel].

The “Night Chronicles” he refers to is a three movie series that opens with Devil, a movie he co-wrote and produced, but didn’t direct, which opens later this month (Yes, Devil is the movie where the trailer provoked derisive laughter in audiences). Somewhere, Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson are breathing a collective sigh of relief."

Sorry M, but I too, signed, with disappointment :(

I don't watch that genre of movies.

although I never felt "thats me", i've always found batman to be my favorite and related to him. mostly because he is one of a minute fraction of "superheros" who have no super powers. He's a regular person, no mutations, magic, etc. He's got extensive training and piles of money, but thats it

It's better then nothing. The flick is suppose to chronicle the second villain in the unbreakable series. So it ties in as a quasi sequel to a sequel. I don't understand why shyamalan doesn't get to making these movies. Finically unsuccessful?? It made three times it's budget. Even by Hollywood standards that's a gold ticket.

It seemed to be horror genre in the trailer. I mean between the title "Devil" the trailer it never even got on my radar as an M movie or by any means related to Unbreakable. I recall seeing that trailer in theaters and tuning it out entirely.

I miss David Dunn
