Unanswered Fish Oil EPA seems the only one worth taking

Looking at different fish oils for the best one for my heart and mood seems EPA stands out the most. Has anyone tried just straight EPA? Studies seem to suggest 2-4 grams is needed to see any difference.

eat fish twice - get protein too, lol. study done showing big bolus 1x/2x week better than tiny bit everyday. not to get all "paleo" but human catch fish when can and eat whole thing, not take one mouthful every day :-)

DHA is also very important. I’d just take a fish oil that contains high levels of both, such as Oximega from Controlled Labs

Agreed. This would be the easiest and simplest way to do it. CL Oximega is a quality supplement as well.

Very important for? It raises LDL cholesterol. Most studies on mixed EPA/DHA don't seem to hold up well in studies where pure EPA is an FDA approved drug for heart conditions. They seem to counteract each other so I see little benefit in adding DHA at least for cardio and mood health.

I saw a commercial about some prescription fish oil called Vascepa. It's the first FDA approved prescription fish oil.

Don’t know why this is so overlooked. Just eat some fish. Less frequent, larger doses are less likely to be oxidized and provide more benefit.

Most fish is contaminated (west coast salmon has all kinds of issues from the japan nuclear disaster). Farmed fish is crap. too many toxins these days for me.

Try IWI it is an algae based omega 3 supplement with a good epa/dha ratio. Why take fish oil when you can go straight to the source.

This offers 251mg of EPA DHA per cap.. That's a small daily dose tbh.

At $24 or £19 for 30 caps.. That's pricey if your looking for the actual beneficial dose.

Yesterday i bought some Mackerel for £0.79 or 1 Dollar.. This 125g portion offers 2.82g of EPA and DHA.

If i eat this 3-4 times a week i will get just say roughly.. 10g+ of EPA DHA. So £0.79 X 4 = £3.16 or 4 Dollars a week.

It also offers 18g of Protein per portion so an extra 72g of protein a week. Also Vitamin A and Vitamin D also.

It's very cheap to get a good source of EPA DHA from a whole food source over that supplement. Obviously if your Vegan then it's a completely different story. Then incorporating the Algae is a massive benefit for you guys.
