Favourite Snack during Diet

Hi everyone, I am starting a diet/cutting phase and I have a really hard time because I tend to snack whenever I get really bored. So I was just wondering what some of everyones favourite healthy thing to snack on that won't ruin the diet. Thanks for any replies.

I find that a stick of gum works really well, as I am not usually hungry just bored.
If you are actually hungry then beef jerky, oatmeal, sliced turkey or celery sticks work well for me, it depends on what texture I am craving.

I am pretty much the same as KG, I usually just pop in a piece of gum and I am fine. If I am at home, i'll just go with some oats. Both work well for me.

Celery sticks work great and so does gum, just like the others said, but if you are really hungry and need some food, try unsalted nuts such as peanuts or cashews, pastacios are good especially if you are bored since you will have to unshell them. just becareful don't eat too many nuts due to the high fat content.

Wow thanks, ya I'm not a big gum chewer but wouldn't be apposed to chewing some gum while dieting, celery sticks sound good too. As far as oatmeal goes, is there anything wrong with the Quaker instant oatmeal in terms of sugar if its flavoured?

In a word - yes :)

That stuff is full of crap.

Go for the traditional Quaker oats, old fashioned style, they have a lower GI due to their larger less processed size, and therefore will give you less of an insulin spike.
I sweeten mine with splenda, and add cinamon powder if I feel like a change.
Low cal, low sugar and a great snack :)

Oh I forgot to add:
If you like the packets because they are convenient, its easy to weigh out the oats and put them in a ziplock bag with the splenda and cinnamon mixed in already.
Then when you get to work, just add water, microwave and hey presto instant snack.

A Skoal Bandit takes my craving away just fine. :D That and I chug some Crystal Light.

hah bandits, I remember throwing a few of those in during high school class. Ah the good old days.

Haha, thanks for the alternatives....I might have to take up Chewing, lol no that's ok. Thanks alot for the replies guys and girls.

I only chew when cutting. Appetite suppressant and nutrient partitioner along with a mild stim effect. Short term use shouldn't hurt me any more than a cycle o' M1T. :D

Everytime I eat those(unsalted nuts, cashews, etc)... I get bad ass gas and my stomach starts cramping up bad. But thats just me. Another bad thing is that once you start, you can't stop... At least that's the way I am. IM you may want to try those as well.

haha, Achilles I have the same problem, I can't control servings so nuts would be a bad idea for me too. BTW, i read your log and when you were cutting you consumed so much less calories....did you go catabolic, or were you able to consume enough protein to keep that minimal? Thanks for all the posts once again.

I wouldn't worry about the fat content, most nuts are really low in saturated fats, and trans fats are alot lower.. I eat maybe 3 cups of mixed nuts while dieting on a daily basis, never hindered my weightloss.. Besides, I'm the fat nazi, so I tend to take in "too much" fat (flax/fish/olive) no matter my given "diet"..

I'm the same way this time around Pete, I have the feeling some of the supps and anabolic agents we use, increase the our ability to metaboize fat, I looked at my fat intake and whoa, how am I losing so much weight. They are mostly healthy fats though. Fish oil, Flax, Olive oil, unsalted almonds.

Not only the special products in use, the demand for altenate energy sources.. ;)

Think about it: while on a lower calorie intake, your body needs something to burn to maintain your BMR.. Glycogen is more readily used in the brain and liver, ketones are used when carbs get too low.. Increasing good fats (fish/flax/olive) help fuel your brain and liver while maintaining to a slight degree some sparring of glycogen stores.. The good fats do many other good things to you, so energy isn't their main use..

Makes sense, I have used Keto and always stalled, but never thought of keeping a higher fat content in a non keto diet. I'm glad we had this chat.

Unsalted, Roasted Peanuts still in the shell. The un-roasted ones are not good, but the roasted are a good snack in between meals, equal carbs and proteins.

You could always take up smoking ;)

Doing something to distract yourself is also good. Internet porn, for example.

Chugging a ton of water really fast also kills cravings.

You can also just make some healthy, good tasting recipes. The recipe section is full of them, and most can be modified to suit your goals.

celery sticks and cottage cheese, mixed nuts...or pounding two tall glasses of water work good for me

I'd try just about anything, I find playing tetris distracts me too. But I wouldn't start smoking, might affect my cardio.

I like to chew on a nice EC stack, it seems to KILL my appetite. :)

CROWLER

Celery sticks or gum always did the trick for me. Celery sticks and hot sauce actually :-). Be careful with the beef jerkey though because of the massive amounts of sodium. Depending on what type of diet you are doing.

Celery sticks with a little bit of natty peanut butter on them....mmmmmmm

while im talking about celery.......does anyone know if celery has a diuretic effect??? it seems like when i eat like 5 or 6 fairly large sticks of it....i piss like a racehorse for most of the day??? i know that celery has like 20 or 30mg of potassium per cup or so.....just notice the increase of urination when i eat it....

How about Tostito's light corn chips( i think theyre fat free) and salsa? Kinda like the nuts though, i find it hard to just eat a few.

Cut a MacIntosh apple in half, cut out the core, put a tbsp of Natty PB in the middle, and wash it down with 2 cups of delicious skim milk. If you eat it with a can of tuna (I use a salad, sandwhich is good too) the nutritional profile is like 500cals, 70g protein, 50g carbs, 8 g fat. Complete meal, really good...Sooo good..lol
