Carnitine esters are amazing things...and this is my favorite one.

Oh and Glycomyx was a hit...at least with me while it was under the Southland Performance name. I honestly shed a tear when it went away.

I'm not dsade, but they can be taken together:
A total of 120 patients were randomized into three groups. The mean patient age was 66 years (range 60 to 74). Group 1 was given testosterone undecanoate 160 mg/day, the second group was given propionyl-L-carnitine 2 g/day plus acetyl-L-carnitine 2 g/day. The third group was given a placebo (starch). Drugs and placebo were given for 6 months...

Carnitines proved significantly more active than testosterone in improving nocturnal penile tumescence and International Index of Erectile Function score. Testosterone significantly increased the prostate volume and free and total testosterone levels and significantly lowered serum luteinizing hormone; carnitines did not...

CONCLUSIONS: Testosterone and, especially, carnitines proved to be active drugs for the therapy of symptoms associated with male aging.

But it may not be ideal, depending on what you're looking for from them:
METHODS: In an open, randomized fashion we compared 2 g/d acetyl-L-carnitine, 2 g/d propionyl-L-carnitine, and its combination in 3 groups of 30 CFS patients during 24 weeks...

RESULTS: Clinical global impression of change after treatment showed considerable improvement in 59% of the patients in the acetylcarnitine group and 63% in the propionylcarnitine group, but less in the acetylcarnitine plus propionylcarnitine group (37%). Acetylcarnitine significantly improved mental fatigue (p =.015) and propionylcarnitine improved general fatigue (p =.004). Attention concentration improved in all groups, whereas pain complaints did not decrease in any group. Two weeks after treatment, worsening of fatigue was experienced by 52%, 50%, and 37% in the acetylcarnitine, propionylcarnitine, and combined group, respectively. In the acetylcarnitine group, but not in the other groups, the changes in plasma carnitine levels correlated with clinical improvement.

CONCLUSIONS: Acetylcarnitine and propionylcarnitine showed beneficial effect on fatigue and attention concentration. Less improvement was found by the combined treatment. Acetylcarnitine had main effect on mental fatigue and propionylcarnitine on general fatigue.

Odd...combined treatment had less effect on fatigue than using each independently. Def. something to think about.
Thanks man. That second study is interesting, and I checked, it was 2g of each for combined treatment, not 1g of each, so they were receiving more total carnitine than the other groups. It looks like they took the carnitine(s) split after breakfast and dinner, which means the combined group took both ALCAR and PLCAR at the same time. I'm wondering if taking them at different times would have yielded better results, although I could be completely wrong here. Perhaps maybe 2g ALCAR in the AM and 2g PLCAR pre-workout, or whatever fits your personal needs/timing. Maybe dsade could weigh in on this as well.

Mix in the entire contents. Should be about 25 grams.

Just got my package with PLCAR + GlycoMx. I have a couple of questions.

Dosage is 1-1.5 grams twice per day (preworkout is a fantastic time).
How close to bedtime can it "safely" be taken (to not result in insomnia)?

I can break out the scale, but approximately what measure equates to the 1 - 1.5g dose? 1/4tsp, 1/2tsp? I can always double check against the scale, just wondered if you already had a rough estimate.

I saw some posts that talked about 2g doses, or is that the daily goal in the 1 - 1.5g twice daily dose you noted?

PLCAR has never really kept me awake in the same manner that ALCAR does, but everyone is affected differently.
Yeah, we're shooting for 1-1.5 per dose.

dsade a couple more questions

I realized that most studies for PLCAR were for daily administration, however I, as I think some others, have been thinking of it in terms of use in a PWO. Are the acute benefits (when used as a PWO) less than or equal to long term use? Or are they really only beneficial when there is a supplemental dose during the day in addition to the PWO dose?

Even though I planned to try it out tomorrow, I am very interested in the outcome as I have been fighting with fatigue for the last couple of weeks (my doctor just tweaked my TRT dosage, so maybe that will help also). If my meeting schedule allows this morning I may try to slip out for a quick workout, and if so will use this as the PWO. For that purpose I should just drop the GM and PLCAR into water and slug it back? What does it taste like? Should I add anything in for flavor? I am a fan of protein in my PWO also, since many studies point to that being more beneficial than protein post (I do both). Would my adding protein to the mix skew your test parameters for the PWO development?

So I answered at least one of my questions, there was a scoop provided in the PLCAR tub. :)

I noticed on the label the recommended dose is 1 heaping scoop (approx 1.1g) 3 times a day. I guess that roughly matches the total of 1.5g twice a day?

I cracked open the tub and wow, PLCAR is very pungent, a strong vinegar smell. I will say that I added it to a protein shake and could not taste it at all, not even a little. I just finished the shake and will post my thoughts later this afternoon (once it kicks in and runs its course).

I put a bit of the GlycoMyx on the tip of my tongue and it tasted nice, just a light, almost neutral, but slightly sweet flavor. Which allayed my concerns over it conflicting with the other shake ingredients I had in mind. I am looking forward to trying it PWO tomorrow.

Yeah, in a substantial drink (PWO or protein shake you can barely taste it. I'm looking forward to your feedback as a PWO.

Yeah I would take it twice per day or even 3 if you can afford it. There are a crapload of studies on PLCAR and other forms, but unfortiunately there are a bunch of lazy researchers that didn't clarify which form is used in their studies when you can tell a lot about which form by the effects noticed.are from ALCAR and not the L[-Carnitine they talk about.

So I went ahead and took the Glyco/PLCAR mix today.

Couple notes:

PLCAR is fairly sour tasting, I drink Apple Cider Vinegar and straight lemon juice, love pickles/sauerkraut (I have to be careful as I can eat jars of the stuff ), so the taste to me is not that bad. But your results may vary, especially if you are bothered by what I consider to be the very mild taste of BRITE.

The Glycomyx has a much more subtle/bland flavor, sort of a light "potato-ish" aftertaste but it's not particularly strong, or unpleasant. I did have a hard time getting it to mix in water, I ended up "eating" a lot of the clumps but it wasn't that big a deal. Perhaps I would've had better results in a shaker cup with my protein, but I wanted to do this workout without anything other than PLCAR/Glycomyx.

As for the actual workout, I felt normal/steady energy levels, nothing off the charts dramatic. I should note that I don't tend to feel most products (except stims and even then I have to add extra caffeine to get any kind of jitters), I'm taking 15mg of Alphaburn (split between two dosages 6mg and 9mg) and have never felt anything "directly", although my results have been spectacular as pertains to lower belly fat loss.

One thing I did "feel", or in this case "not feel" was nausea from a blood sugar crash...I get tremendous bouts of nausea/light headedness if I go through a big workout without eating 20 minutes or so before my workouts. I purposely did not eat (for science!) and did NOT get a blood sugar crash today, in fact I felt fine up until now w/o any food at all (just finally had a protein shake). Now I don't normally try to go without eating intentionally, but I have been known to inadvertently forget to eat as I'm a first time CEO of a startup consulting firm, and quite frankly I work all the friggin time and it's very easy for me to forget meals (until I start feeling physically ill). So, it definitely stabilized my blood sugar, or at least kept me from feeling the crash.

Hopefully this provide some helpful info, I wasn't really sure what to expect so maybe what I experienced is at least some of the intended benefit. Also, my last gf told me I was "dead inside" which probably explains why I never seem to feel the effects that others do from various supplements :toofunny:

I tried it for my workout this morning also. I am a pretty heavy stim-junkie, but to better judge the PLCAR affects I took it more or less solo today (in so far as stims are concerned). I work out first thing in the morning, which is also why I normally rely on stims to "get me going".

My PWO consisted of the PLCAR, GlycoMyx plus ~25g of protein (Vanilla flavor), 8g of BCAAs and ~1g of agmatine. My Intra is an EAA blend that includes a carb source (Carb10).

I did not feel that it was too heavy or that the taste was overpowering in any way. I also added ~ 1/2 scoop of GlycoMyx to my post shake (I already had a carb source there and did not want to overload it). I am going to be picking up more of the GlycoMyx, but will need to play with dosages for the PLCAR as I did not "feel" it this morning, at least no acute affects. But again, I am a heavy stim user, part of the nature of the beast due to my job, so it takes quite a bit to "move the needle" with me.

I hit a PR today on the bench press did 315 for 10. I used 4 grams of PLCAR.

you mean effectivess past which there is no additional benefit? I would say 5-6 grams.

not just efficacy, but also the GRAS dosage. Also any threshold above which negative side effects have been encountered (IE: GI distress, headaches, BP spikes, etc).

100% same here. I was mentally fatigued / yawning through my workouts even with 400+mg caffeine.

I chalked it up to needing a bit of a caffeine break, but since taking the break and cutting out PWO crap, I just take PLCAR, Creatine, and am running on alphaburn... and my god, my workouts have been insane!

This is going to be a part of your PWO correct dsade?

1.8gm would be less than a flat teaspoon, maybe 3/4? I weighed a flat scoop (my tub had one), and it was approx 600mg.

Id guess 1.5gm to be just over half a teaspoon.

Edit: I packed three of the 600mg flat scoops into a teaspoon, was over 3/4 full. 1 flat teaspoon would fit approx 2gm. Hope that helps lol
My tub says that the 1 rounded scoop is 1.1g, but I didn't break out the scale to check it. I took 2 scoops of it this morning, added to my PWO, thinking I was getting 2g+ ,but I guess I had just over 1g. That might explain my lack of results when I tried 1 scoop by itself last week.

Just to clarify:

Im using flat scoops ("rounded" is too variable for me). 1 flat scoop was 600mg.

Im using imperial teaspoon measures.

offredjo was missing his scoop and was asking what measurement (tsp) == 1g.
I didnt bring mine with me for the weeekend (no real chance to workout), but I will be back sunday and can weigh a scoop size I take :). A "rounded" weight and a flat scoop rate in grams :)

According to my scale a flat 1/8 tsp (US) weighed in just over 500 mg (like 505). So 1/4 TSP would be your 1g amount and 3/8 TSP would be 1.5g

I did not. I was just trying to find out the measurement for 1g. But I can later tonight. Stuck on a work call at the minute.

Thatd be cool if you did. But if you come up with a different figure to me well obviously your scale is wrong.

LOL, ok, will do. Mine is just a cheap little scale. but accurate enough for my purposes :)

just did the test (while still on this call LOL). Using he scoop in the tub, and leveling it flat, it came in right at 600mg. That was what you said, right?
