American Pie Pizza Eating Contest

So I competed in the American Pie Pizza Eating Contest in MN Yesterday. The format was 14" Regular Crust Cheese Pizza Cut into 8 Slices, 12 Minutes. This length of contest can be compared to a marathon. Anyways there were several good independent eaters there, "Gentleman" Joe Menchetti(From CT), Jon Boddy(From CO), and Mark "The Muncher" Williams(From IA). So this competition definitely was no cakewalk.

Wow Dude... You just can't be stopped! LoL, I mean honestly did my egg eating contest get you started and make you realize you had this talent or you always knew and it just instigated you to take this to the next level, or were you actually doing this kind of stuff and competing in eating contests and feats of eats before I threw my little egg eating contest? Either way, your eating ability is amazing... you have both capacity and speed, most people usually just have one or the other!!!

I had just done 3 challenges beforehand, but the egg eating contest definitely grew my interest in entering actual contests. I knew that I wanted to do more challenges and contests, but the speed aspect of that was really fun. Thank You! I know that I can keep getting better! And I hope that both of those attributes get better and better!

congrats again man keep it up!

Thank You!

got any more comin up?

The only thing I have planned right now is two big pizza challenges on August 12th and August 14th. I don't know if you guys have ever heard of Randy "Atlas" Santel, but he has done a ton of food challenges and he puts them on YouTube. We are teaming up to take down Polito's Monster Pizza in La Crosse, WI. It is a 12lb 28" Pizza that over 300 teams have failed to complete. You get an hour. And then on the 14th we are going to Randy's Premiere Pizza to take down a 30" pizza in under thirty minutes. Both of those challenges have $500 rewards. I may do a contest on the 6th, either Taco's or Hot Dogs, but it all depends.

I was actually contacted by Kare 11 Sunrise, A TV program in my area today during my lunch break and it turns out I am getting interviewed and will do a bit of eating on the program. Probably as many pancakes as I can eat in 1-3 minutes haha. And, here is an article that was recently published if any of you are interested. Invalid Link Removedut that is all I have in mind at this moment.

o thats all huh, haha thats sick, g/l man it'd be so sweet to be the first team to taek down that pizza!

and when do u eat it? do u kinda follow liek th lean gains idea?
It started with the LeanGains idea of a 16hr fast and then a 8hr feeding and I was eating 3 meals during that time. But I started to want bigger and bigger meals to break my fast, so I moved closer to a 20-4 with two meals, and eventually a 23-1 / 22-2 with one big meal. I find that if I only have to worry about food once, I am not constantly thinking about it. It's not cut and dry, sometimes I will break my fast early, but I like to eat after I get done with work or working out either 6:00 or 7:30. It was worked for me thus far. Although I do not think I could have transitioned from eating 3-5 meals a day whenever to one meal. The hunger pangs initially were somewhat intense. But your body gets used to eating at the same time every day.

interesting, cuz ive been looking into doing something liek taht but im afraid to jump right into it cuz i HATE being hungry lol and I have a fast metabolism so that happens alot as it is..........any tips?

Eric... that is very interesting, I'm not sure that is absolute best method as far as adding lean body mass, but, then again Lean Gains goes against all that I have ever learned in the past well, so who knows! I definitely will agree it is perfect for you and eating that one huge meal helps you practice/train for eating contests! When you have an eating contest/challenge does that gorging constitute your 1 meal of the day?

Sorry I kind of fell off the face of the earth haha I have been extremely busy. But honestly you are going to be hungry for the first few days until your body adjusts. Some things that you can do to make the transition easier are drinking a lot of water, crystal light, or diet soda. I stay away from caffeine except before WO, but caffeine will help as well if you want to go down that road.

@Scotty

Yes the challenges/contests constitute as my one meal, I don't need anymore calories than that haha Ever since I became aware that meal frequency does not have a significant effect on body composition I ditched the Tupperware. That was probably the worst part about eating 5+ times a day.

Alright time for another eating video. This time it is a Hot Dog Eating contest. These dogs were the 6 to the pound variety and had a natural casing, making them a little tougher to eat. The toughest thing about them and the most disgusting is that they didn’t even grill the dogs! They looked like they boiled them, and then refrigerated them until right before they brought them out. This led to the dogs being cold and unappetizing. I finished the first tray of twelve in about 4:25 and then just cruised from there. I was disappointed in myself a bit as I was hoping to hit 20 in under 6 minutes. If the dogs were done decently then I certainly felt that was achievable. But, it was fun to compete with both of my brothers and also some of my friends. Anyways here is the link, I am taking on that undefeated pizza challenge this Friday in La Crosse so I am ready to demolish some pizza haha.

Eric... You still stompted the competition, I bet if they tasted better you could have eaten more as well, but lesson learned I guess, "not everything you will be competing to eat will be delicious!"

Yea lesson learned haha Keep going on that log man! I can't wait to see the end result!

Yea lesson learned haha Keep going on that log man! I can't wait to see the end result!

Don't you worry my friend, like I posted on my LOG, this is gonna be my best ever! I don't really care what I get down to for Halloween, as in anything under 6% will do just fine, but after Halloween I will continue until I have hit my PR which is under 4.6% BF! I was 4.6% BF for Halloween of 2008 and that is how lean I was in my Avatar (taken on Oct. 29th of 2008), anyway, not only will I come in leaner than 4.6%, but I also plan to do so while still keeping my lean body mass at or around 200Lbs, which will be a feat in itself because when I was 4.6% BF in my avatar, I was also under 190Lbs total, with a lean body mass somewhere in the neighborhood of 178Lbs!

Polito's Monster Pizza is a 12lb 28" pizza that had over 500 wins over teams of two. It was undefeated until my partner Randy "Atlas" Santel and I made it public that we were going to attempt it on the 12th. Two CE were the first to complete it in just under 21 minutes. So Randy and I wanted to push it hard for a record.

damn lol once again haha, no let up keep it up!!! and im all over that facebook page haha

Will do! Randy and I are taking on the 30" two topping pizza today at 12pm. You get 30 minutes and the current record for teams of two is 21 minutes. I have a feeling there is going to be another record set. And Thank You!

Good Job Bro, more than the volume (amount of food you consume), your speed is simply amazing, I mean 1st I am amazed by how much food you are eating, then when I hear your time, I"m like WTF, how does he do that so fast, Wow Bro... WoW!!!

The size of the pizza doesn't mean as much as the weight, so how much does this new pizza weigh? Also, there is one big difference between that pizza you just tackled and the pizza I tried... and that is meat, meat, & more meat! I'm not saying you could not do it, believe me I know you can, all I am saying is that after the 1st slice all you taste is salty ham, the amount of sodium in the pizza I tried was the equivalence of an entire salt shaker of salt for each of the two teammates! Oh that pizza I tried & failed was a 30" 11Lb meat-lovers pizza at the "Pie in the Sky" in Kennesaw, GA as shown on "Man vs. Food." The guy working there even commented on the amount of sodium in the pizza as being the hardest part of the challenge, because that amount of salt pretty much makes just about anyone attempting it sick to their stomach!

Haha thank you! Like I said earlier if I am ever down in that region, I will call you up and we will dominate some pizza!!!

The Randy's Premier Pizza weighed around 12lbs also. 30" Two Topping

We ended up finishing in 14:15, short of the 4 person record by 45 seconds. But, we set the two person record by 8 minutes. I had my half down in 9:50. This was a little harder challenge due to the tougher crust. The pizza, although good, didn't stay together that well which led to some sloppy eating haha.

Eric... I have a question for you, I notice that in a lot, if not most of your pictures and videos you are standing while you eat, does that help, is that some sort of technique that helps?

When I really want to push it for time I will stand. It helps because I can move around which settles the food in my stomach better. It also helps to move my head around which pushes the food down faster. For restaurant challenges usually I will sit just not to draw that much attention to myself haha

The video of Randy's is completed!

I also am competing at the MN State Fair on Saturday for ESPN1500's 3rd Annual Pronto Pup Eating Contest. Pronto Pups are pretty much corn dogs. 12 Pups, 2 minutes 30 seconds. Whoever can eat theirs fastest or the most in the time win. The two year reigning champion will be there so I will have to try and knock him off!

Again... Amazing Brotha! So I know I heard this somewhere, maybe it was Randy's fan page on FB, but did you guys beat the record time it took for 4 people to finish the pizza? I know y'all shattered the 2 person time!

Nope, the four person record was 13:30. I had my half down in 9:50. But, we still fell 45 seconds short.

My riding club and I are heading to a place in Bedford, PA this weekend - Bad Boyz Bistro. They have a few challenges - a big burger, a pizza thing, and a wing thing. I'm going for the wings!

Here's the clip from Food Network... Wish me luck!!

Oh, and one of my guys takes a recorder on all the rides. He'll be recording my horror. :D

Dude, I only have one thing to say... "God Bless Your Heart!" I'm from New Orleans and I LOVE hot food, believe me, but there is such a huge difference between hot or spicy food and insanely hot/spicy food and those wings are definitely in the "INSANE" category! What I will do, for example, this past Cinco de Mayo I entered a raw Jalapeno eating contest, as many as you can eat in 3 minutes and I won, eating 16 raw Jalapenos and I was sipping on milk for like 30 minutes after. Another time, a friend of mine had this tiny, tiny little bottle of what was supposed to be the hottest hot sauce in the world and he dared me to put on drop in the center of an entire slice of white bread and eat it, I was like, I could do that, I mean the white bread alone would absorb it, how can that be hard!!! OMG, was I wrong, nothing would quench that fire, milk, butter, nothing, my mouth burned for an hour, I was sweating, my heart was racing, I was mildly hallucinating, you name it, so NO MORE HOT challenges for this guy!!!

Back in my college days, circa 2000 or so, I was really big into sauces and extracts. I even helped organize a wing challenge in my dorm with ones similar to this one. The town record was like 4, and most anyone at the competition ate was 3. I downed 6 and stopped because I had eaten dinner before it and was full. I'm really out of practice now, but I'm definitely going to get it my all!!! :D

Holy crap. The different hot sauces he puts in there are insane. All with ridiculously high Scoville raitings!! Good luck and I hope it goes well haha

Painful, but ok... LOL

Take a video of it Bro, I know Biglifter85 will not mind you posting an eating video here on this thread, besides I really wanna see you cry, I mean try, LoL!

So here is a some video editing with a practice round of Corndogs before the event at the MN State Fair tomorrow.

Dude... LoL, I'm laughing at myself so bad right now, when I first saw this video I was like... OMG does this guy have a twin brother, HOLY $hit and they can both eat, talk about Tag-Team Champions, then I re-read the "video editing" part and looked at the video again and realized what you did, but at first glance, I was like... No way, "there's two of them!!!" A little deja vu... LoL!

Well, Gents, I survived the Hellraiser challenge... barely. Out of 10 wings, I ate 5. I can do heat, and the heat from these was intense. But after they hit your stomach, the real pain began. It was like getting shot, or hit with a sledgehammer over and over again, or so I'd imagine. All I know is it HURT. I ate the wings, took a few sips of milk, and tried to throw up a few times to get it out. No go - they wouldn't let me! The peppers wouldn't let me purge!! I laid on the floor of the restaurant in agony for 45 minutes, then finally got back up and was ok. Over the next 2 hours, the pain came back over and over again, which made the nearly 1 hour ride on the bike back home absolutely hell. Last night, the digestion completed and they finally came out...painfully. Hell, it even hurt to pee, and I've NEVER had that before.

So, for all your enjoyment, let me present... me, doing the dumbest thing I've ever done:

I will NEVER do another wing challenge like this again. EVER.

I will NEVER do another wing challenge like this again. EVER.

Dude... First off, I just have to give you props for trying, 2nd, 5/10 wings is probably like more than 90% of the people who have tried it, much less out of the entire population of the world and what they could handle, so still very impressive and also entertaining, I have not and never will attempt such a thing, I mean I have had my trials and errors with hot food on simple bets and stupidity, but never will I attempt something like that! OK, just out of curiosity, from the time you started eating the wings, how long did it take for you to feel 100% normal, hours, day, days, I mean you just did this challenge yesterday, do you feel normal now... today???

What's this "normal" of which you speak? LOL Let me break it down a bit...

45 minutes after video ends - still laying on the floor with extreme stomach pain.
15 minutes after - sitting in a chair trying to eat some ice cream... not doing so well at it.
20 minutes after - standing around outside waiting to get back on the bike, pain coming back in waves
hour ride home - pain and nausea coming back in waves every 10 minutes
Later that night - expunge, and flames melted the porcelain
Morning after - remnants of the expunge
Mid-morning - cleared the system

Throughout yesterday, I could not even think back to the wings without getting nauseous. By the end of yesterday, I was just fine. No remnants of the challenge remain except for the memory of the horror.

I reiterate, they were HOT, but it was the stomach pain that was absolutely hell.

Thank you for this, because although I might not be the guy to go and drive out for a challenge like this, I am the guy that could get suckered into one just because we are there and all my friends know that they can get to me via my competitive nature! So this will make it very easy to say, "Nahhh, trying to quit!" or just "No... HELL NO!"

Ya ghost chili + pepper extract is a mistake for anybody. The man vs food episode here in sarasota, adam basically had the same wings you did he ate 1 and was done, he didnt look well after just one.

I think the awesome part is that Tim licked his fingers LOL you gotta be crazy

Personally, I liked his expression when he first put the whole wing in his mouth to taste it and take some of the sauce off the wing, he definitely had that explosion go off in his mouth, I mean you can see it clearly on his face, his eyes got wide and you know he was about to say "Wow" or "Holy $hit!" but instead he recomposes his demeanor and says, "Good Flavor!" when he said that I honestly chuckled for a moment and was just thinking, there is no way he will be thinking good flavor after he is done with just one, I've eaten extremely hot food, nothing compared to TIM here, but hot enough to know that you don't taste a damn thing after about a min, and the heat builds in intensity, he could have eaten just one and his mouth would have burned the same, but I bet his stomach would not have been soo bad! Either way, I got a kick out of his video and my hat goes off to him for even attempting such a thing, much less getting half-way!
