How to you guys feel bout dropping weights. When I trained really heavy with no spot I didn't give any ish n would drop um after heavy DB bench n such. I could tell it really pissed people off n for while once gain didn't give an ish. However over time for one reason or another I just stopped lunking.

What u guys think...discuss

Doesn't bother me. Hell, I do a lot of only lifts so I drop and throw weight a lot.

Doesnt bother me when it's someone being serious about what they're lifting rather then the dumb shts that arent an being careless. If you break the 110lb db (heaviest at my gym)I'm gonna be bummed till its replaced but if I saw some dipsht do it messin around I'm gonna be pissed and have a couple comments.

Show me how to break a 110lb bell?

My gym is partly attached to this new Mexican restaurant and yesterday the manager came over and complained about all of the "clanking and clacking" of the weights. He was like 5 feet tall and was furious he said they we're losing customers and some other BS to one one of the gym workers who told him to deal with it. The little dude walked off cussing him out in spanish. It was hilarious.

Ha that's great! Do you work out at snap fitness they just put an azteka next to it.

Oh they break if dropped right, almost like a sweet spot over time and the weld snaps along the handle. A couple gyms ive used have had the bolted together deals and those will snap from time to time. Hate those ones when they come loose while your doing db presses, just throws a whole set off.

ya depends on if its a serious lifter dropping the weights lol, i rlly dnt care though

I think only d-bags "throw" weights. I don't care how heavy it is or how serious your lifting is; that's a douche move.

As for dropping weights, it depends on how you "drop" them. In all honesty, I always have enough energy left, even after going to failure, to bring the DBs to within a few inches of the floor before letting them go. The only time weight should ever really be dropped is if you're going to injure yourself.

My gym has rubber coated DBs and several of them are broken because of people tossing and dropping them. I just think it's improper gym etiquette.

Agreed! i drop them from time to time but do the best i can to make it as least disrupting as i can. For example if im db presssing i lower my elbows as far down as a i can before i drop them. I'll never drop from the top. I also do the same thing with lying tri extensions and db pullovers. There are signs up all over the place saying dont drop weights but the owner has never had a go at me so i figure its acceptable.

^^^ yeah there's an acceptable way to do it and that's how do it as well and the weight doesn't go bouncin across the gym.

My friend and I were working out at my house a few years ago. (I was barefoot) and he took a 25 off of the bar and was walking to put it up and dropped it on my big toe. I screamed like a b/tch and decked him in his chest. We were both on the ground in pain. My toenail was blue for a month and then it completely fell off. It hurt SO BAD. We are still friends though

If I had weights in my house and some1 bounced something off anything except their chest they'll be on the front porch on the way home with bill for me to get a new wall/floor etc....

drop the weights if you really can't handle the weight. I would feel like a dbag dropping my weights at my gym. Even If i use DB higher than 100, I can still get them back on the rack without having to throw em on the ground

It really only bothers me when tools DB press like 25 pounds and feel the need to throw them down. I'm sorry, bro, but that's not that ****ing impressive. Other than that, it's just noise around me as I lift. Like a few other guys on here, I try to lower them as close to the ground as I can before I drop them

Ive dropped and lunked the weights tons of times, specially with the db's.I work till I cant even lift them one more rep and I can barely carry them to put back on the rack.As far as other people,I have my headphones on,So I really wouldnt know if people do or dont do it around me.I dont care, get your workout on.

Precisely what I try to do. Sometimes, it's unavoidable, though. If I'm repping out something above 100lbs and it's in danger of falling on my face, I'd rather guide it to the floor than die!! I have the habit of dropping the bar a bit prematurely on deadlifts sometimes. Carpal tunnel and 500+ don't always go well together, and I just lose grip. (I don't use straps.) I dropped 550 fast once and am pretty sure that I cracked the concrete under the carpet. Things land with a different thud nowadays. lol

Haha yea, I get exactly what your saying, man. I can be a little loud with deads and when I'm repping heavy DB shoulder presses; it's just not easy to always put down that weight. ****, if you're lifting 500+, I'm more than fine with you dropping that kinda of weight haha

Seems like the whole discussion is focused on DBs lol. Yeah, I'll guide those, not throw them. Oly lifts though like power clean, you are either catching it or you are ditching it, no middle ground unless you want to be flattened.

I don't think you have to gingerly set weights down, but there's a difference between that and a full out drop. Even on DB presses and such, you can lower the weights to a point before letting go.

People who abuse the cable racks are some of the ones I want to throw across the room more than anything.

midwest that i definitely agree with you on is the cable racks, now that sht is just down right annoying as hell
