Donald Trump running for president

The overarching theme I've noticed going to Church is to be "Christ-like." Jesus was peaceful, charitable, and didn't judge others. Plenty of "Christians" are not at all Christ-like.

That was exactly my point. Plenty of Christians are hateful and practice the opposite of what they preach. I've mainly noticed this within "certain" denominations in certain southern US states.

Up in Canada, I knew Christians of all denominations, and I NEVER knew one single hateful one such as this.

Memorizing Bible verses is not a good indicator of anything to me. I know people who have basically the whole Bible memorized but are hypocritical, judgmental, selfish, etc. Other people know very little verses but are much more Christ-Like, and therefore "better Christians" IMO.
The fact that people even attempt to memorize Bible verses in order to gain political and social favor should say alot.

I just find it amusing when Christians claim to be under attack. Have they started rounding up Christians and putting them in concentration camps, and I didn't notice?

I'm in South Florida, which is so far south that it's not even "the South" anymore, haha.

There are several parishes in the US Bible Belt that do nothing but preach hate and bigotry. It's too bad they can't be shutdown. Fvkcing a$$backwards people.

I agree with you, they're not really Christians at all, but they're often the most vocal "Christians," so they give real Christians a bad reputation at times. Similarly, I don't consider someone who loots and riots during a protest to be a "civil rights activist," no matter how loudly they say that they are.
people are poor reflections of many positive character traits they profess to have regardless of how loudly the articulate themselves in words.

I'm not afraid of anything and my Christianity has zero to do with policical pandering.

I have no persecution complex. I have been on this board for 13+ years and berated on this board by its members, many like yourself, more times than I can count.

Your spirit and tone is devicive and antagonistic. You are not someone with witch I will find any fruit in having conversation with regardless. Thanks.
Yes, my tone may come across as harsh and I apologize if it does. I tend to get a little passionate about discussions such as this.

Do you find it antagonistic simply because I disagree with you?

I just find the concept that Christians are being persecuted to be laughable.

Also, rote memorization doesn't even necessarily demonstrate knowledge or understanding, let alone application. I'm sure someone could "memorize" a paragraph in a foreign language, or a calculus problem, but have no idea what it actually means or how to apply it.

I don't memorize any Bible verses, but I remember the message, spirit, and applications of some. Also, I take the time to check translations and word choices for some of the more confusing and/or controversial sections, and often find that something was translated incorrectly, or more context was needed, etc. I find the idea of taking every single word in the modern english Bible as the perfect word of God without any flaws laughable, as if there are no mistranslations and/or things added and/or omitted over thousands of years.

are you not ****ing intelligent enough to know better? Seriously?! Why do you give merit to these stupid ****s.

You can discern the difference between a law abiding black male who was profiled and a chronic offending perpetrating gun possessing black male felon antagonizing and resisting law enforcement orders?

Surely you can discern the difference!

Yet, cant you also discern the difference between Christ life modeled Christians and hate?

No need to get upset :) I agree with you, these aren't proper Christians.

But they truly need to be stopped, I don't care about freedom of speech when hate's involved.

christ himself called the people like that out. "White washed tombs"..,clean on the outside but dead on the inside.
Christ also said (paraphrased) i am the spirit of the word and not the letter. I am the word in the living flesh...watch what I say and do". That is the Christian barometer IMHO

no. Your words do. Disagreement can be spweet and also fruitful and good for the heart. I hate to say it...scripture again..."from be mouth flows the abundance of the heart."

I reject antagonist tone because it inspires me to display character very unbecoming my professed faith. I'm an ******* that can easily berate an other without remorse. Not the guy I want to be.

So, it's not you. It's the words I reject. I'm
Sure you get the point.

How many Christian-based holidays does the US recognize and generally do people get off of work because? How many holidays of ANY other religion does that happen in the US for? Which religion has the name of its god on US currency? Christianity is not being persecuted in the US at all and to say so is a slap in the face of people that actually have been persecuted. Two dudes want to get married and you find that gross? Fine, but persecution?!?! Do you secretly have to attend church? Is somebody coming into your house to check if there is a bible there with your life in danger if they find one. Seriously, persecution?!?!
right. Recognizing Christian holiday is equitable to racism and recognizing MLK. I did not say Chritianity I said the Christian. Again equitable to the Black holiday and black equality.

I made no mention of my persuasion of male with male relationship yet you equated my mention of it at my believing it is gross...Christians think that...right.

My right to and freedom for my safe Constitutional pursuits of happiness in reading my bible is not equitable to your analogy...again. I'm free to do so but not free from the social persecution when not keeping it secret.

I said the Christian not Christisnity. The law provides my Christian faith certain freedoms but does not protect the Chritian faith holder and professor from the social persecution that exists.

I find it interesting how you have taken to translate my words to even suggest attack. Why does your receipt of such sentiment seem to persuade you to go to the extreme in your embracing and interpretation.

No need to get upset :) I agree with you, these aren't proper Christians.

Dont mean to sound upset. Animated and demonstrative of passion is what I call it ;)

I agree.

Ok, well you may want to pick another word because persecution is pretty strong for what you're describing. And that is me disagreeing with you, not persecuting you. I think the Millennials call what you're looking for a safe space. People that actually are persecuted for their religious beliefs don't just have their feelings hurt. As for how you can have the Christian without the Christianity...that's a new one. How many churches have other religions demonstrating in front of them? How many protests occur when somebody wants to build a Christian church? Now same two questions with a Muslim mosque. You're obviously a good Christian man who actually walks the walk and I completely respect that whether that is coming through or not, but this idea that Christianity or Christians are being persecuted in the US is just completely false

I really don't enjoy religious discussions because someone always gets offended. That being said, your "concentration camp" is actually all around you. As a Christian who lives in America look around you and tell me what you see; sin everywhere. Sin is being shoved down our throats daily by signs on the street, banners, commercials, songs on the radio, LGBT bathrooms, gay pride parades, gay pride month now, television shows and movies. Even the most recent cartoon movie I watched is trying to force anti-Christian views on to children. Hell, they put a lesbian couple in Finding Dory and are trying to make Elsa from "Frozen" a lesbian. Even the most recent Star Trek movie, after Star Trek has been around for decades, they suddenly make Sulu a homosexual? Even George Takai took offense to this, and he's gay!

So concentration camp? Yeah we're not being beaten and tortured physically, but there is a spiritual struggle that gets harder everyday as society tries to push non-Christian views down our throats. What are we supposed to do? Conform? Ignore it? Change the channels? Look away from the signs/banners? I guess I'll just keep my head down and let life pass me by as I try to avoid all the crap being pushed at me that goes against everything the Bible teaches me.

Well, at least that's what they hope I'll do.

Guys are missing the boat on Soros. It's not that he makes donations...it's what he gets in return. Sheesh

You are entitled to your opinion, but doesn't Jesus preach tolerance and " those in glass houses"etc....

So sad that Christians feel non-Christian views being pushed down their throats after 2000 years of doing the pushing

Let me begin by respectfully asking are you ****ing serious?! You're equating concentration camps with a movie having a lesbian couple in it about a cartoon fish that was voiced in real life by a lesbian to begin with?!?!

You don't know what to do with struggles and temptations?!?! If you don't know how to handle those then I'm questioning if you've tried reading the bible and are not just going off of what others have interpreted and are telling you what to be upset about. The bible is full of examples of struggles and temptations and how to deal with them.

youre persistently comparing "my" experience to the world and national news and holocaustic events.

subject (someone) to hostility and ill-treatment, especially because of their race or political or religious beliefs.

Either you're oblivious to it or ignorant of its prevalence here on the board. Just take a look for example at the member PistonHonda and his posts and memes. It's not an exaggeration to suggest 40% of his posts are vile and offensive mockings of Christians.

I am not at all suggesting my faith is right nor suggestion that you be persuaded to believe what I believe or that anyone is going to hell as a result of their disbelief. I'm just stating my experience of my treatment as a result of sharing the belief in God.

While this is true, the GOP is the only party that prides itself on being focused on the past, on keeping outdated traditions and laws, being non-progressive, and living in the past. They romanticize the past and want to stay in it. It's their credo.

Quite the reverse, they're the party that focuses on stability, not embracing every new bad idea just because it's new. The progressives instead create instability and a lack of understanding, trying to rewrite history, and change definitions of words to suit their agenda.

Do people tend to live better lives with stability or chaos?

roughly within a point right now. thank god neither is over 50%. I could see Hillary claiming a mandate with 45% of the popular vote though

Can we stop all the religious stuff?
This thread is about Trump and we all know the dude isn't religious.

this thread has become destructive for me. yesterday I had the urge to drink for the 1st time in a very long time.

try as I might I am not going to change anyone's mind and no one is going to change mine, so this thread is counterproductive for me....I went to a meeting last night and said some prayers and have decided that it is in my best interest to unsub from this thread...I don't see anything good coming from this thread, for me at least....if I have offended anyone in this thread I am apologizing now and want to make amends-feel free to contact me thru pm...thank you.

I had to take a step back from the thread a while back, but then I learned not to take anything personally or get too wound up by anyone. Everyone has their own set of opinions, and I've just accepted it, even if they're pretty bad opinions. Can't just change people and arguing on the internet solves nothing. Best to just be laid back and have fun with it :)

I've offended my share here as well, and took beatings back but rolled with the punches. I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's an online political thread, craziness is bound to happen just need to remember to not take it to heart at the end of the day.

Your Christian views are of your own choice - no one else is obliged to follow them, nor even care about the views/ values you personally uphold. Being a Christian means that you recognize sin is of this world, and that avoiding temptation is a part of that.

Following the Christian path is not supposed to be easy: "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it."

A concentration camp is a place NO-ONE would voluntarily go to, the two are not even close to related.

Guys are missing the boat on Soros. It's not that he makes donations...it's what he gets in return. Sheesh

I didn't even know who the guy was until I Googled him, and I didn't know what i was looking for even when I did.

How about the religion of man made climate change and politics?

Climate change is based on science, so in my opinion, that is false. I don't worship science, I simply find the scientific method to be the best way to study naturally occurring phenomenon.

Climate change is also based on corruption, manipulated data and forceful shutting out any opposition to promote a political/corporate objective.

Not much faith in scientific inquiry, huh?

More conspiracy I see ;)

Eventually the sham is going to give, and the latest letter signed by 50 NASA experts, with more than 1000 years of combined professional experience, is a sure sign the gig’s about over.

…..unproven remarks…..not substantiated…..hundreds of well-known climate scientists…..tens of thousands of other scientists publicly declaring their disbelief…..science is NOT settled…..unbecoming of NASA’s history…..advocacy of an extreme position…..damage to the exemplary reputation of NASA…..even the reputation of science itself…”

Letters to the top don’t get any more blunt than that.

And how many tens of billions have these crackpots at GISS cost the taxpayers?

Here’s the letter:

March 28, 2012
The Honorable Charles Bolden, Jr.
NASA Administrator
NASA Headquarters
Washington, D.C. 20546-0001

Dear Charlie,

We, the undersigned, respectfully request that NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites. We believe the claims by NASA and GISS, that man-made carbon dioxide is having a catastrophic impact on global climate change are not substantiated, especially when considering thousands of years of empirical data. With hundreds of well-known climate scientists and tens of thousands of other scientists publicly declaring their disbelief in the catastrophic forecasts, coming particularly from the GISS leadership, it is clear that the science is NOT settled.

The unbridled advocacy of CO2 being the major cause of climate change is unbecoming of NASA’s history of making an objective assessment of all available scientific data prior to making decisions or public statements.

As former NASA employees, we feel that NASA’s advocacy of an extreme position, prior to a thorough study of the possible overwhelming impact of natural climate drivers is inappropriate. We request that NASA refrain from including unproven and unsupported remarks in its future releases and websites on this subject. At risk is damage to the exemplary reputation of NASA, NASA’s current or former scientists and employees, and even the reputation of science itself.

For additional information regarding the science behind our concern, we recommend that you contact Harrison Schmitt or Walter Cunningham, or others they can recommend to you.

Thank you for considering this request.

Sincerely,

(Attached signatures)

CC: Ass Mr. Chris Scolese, Director, Goddard Space Flight Center

So 50 NASA astronauts are naive/gullible/etc.. Not sure what that "proves"

I'll have to look at that in depth later. Heading to gym right now. I'm sure it's got some climate denial backing it.

I'm sure. What would conspiracies be without a story :D

Oh I have a bag of Alex Jones lollipops waiting for you, and some stories about bigfoot, godzilla having an affair with the easter bunny, and how martians moved to the dark side of the moon to produce opium for the hospital you work at....plenty more coming get your popcorn ready this is going to be a very very long day!
