Chinese Start Another Mass Dog Slaughter

The measure came in response to the deaths of 16 people from rabies in Jining in the last eight months, Xinhua said. It didn't say how many dogs would be killed, but said the city had about 500,000.

That's hardcore. Are they talking about peoples pets, or are dogs wild over there, sort of like squirrels or rats in the US?

Either way, I don't think slaughtering thousands of animals will help at all, because I'm sure they'll just be more dogs next year that contract the virus somehow. Talk about a temporary solution...

That's f'ing rediculous for them to be in that state with bird flu and the likes not long ago, wish they'd get a grip of things.

They are doing pets too. They go through using a special noise to cause them to bark then they kill them/beat them to death. Paying people per animal they have if they kill em themselves too.

I actually agree with the practice when faced with overpopulation. It was designed to limit children and tax the hell out of the more you have to you had to have money to have more kids.

Hmmm...wonder if I could earn a few extra bucks by killing/beating some of these people. It would help with their overpopulation problem and still fall in line with their way of thinking of solutions. :) :bruce1:

Sounds like your line of thought is on par with the chinese government.

They have to kill 500,000 dogs to save 2,000 humans. That's a pretty ****ed up ratio right there. And beating them to death? That's just sick.

What those guys should do is chop off the nuts and neuter/spay all the animals there, just like how we do in the United States. Problem solved! And everybody can go play frisbee and have Fido lick the childrens' faces after he licked his own butt.

Westerners are among the few cultures that put cats and dogs in high regard. To most other cultures they are simply tolerated, or not at all in some cases.

Given that they do not typically care as much as we do, there really aren't any spay/nueter or rabies and animal control agencies...until there is an excess and they go cull the herd.

Sad, but many cultures think we are completely insane for all the attention we give dogs. Letting them sleep inside or even on the bed is unheard of in many places. Feeding the ones that hang around you is even pretty rare.

We should be careful about how much we criticize them here as we have done worse in our past. We still have some states that put bounties on coyotes, feral dogs, even some types of cats. Most of our more enlighten policies are fairly recent and really are not something that a developing nation can afford to do. We are long past the point that we really have to worry about how to feed our people (it’s a matter if we are willing) but that is hardly the case in the rest of the world.

Please don't misunderstand me, the government in china is evil in any practical and moral sense but I am going by the particular situation.

That may do well to resolve future problems regarding dog population, but does absolutely nothing for the current rabies problem...

Personally, if dogs were overpopulated in my community to the point where my family is at risk of getting rabies... you better believe that i would be one of the first to go out and kill every dog in sight... by any means necessary.

Pets are fine but if they cause sickness and suffering to people, then they have to go. People always comes first in my book, yes even the stupid ones...

Aren't these the same people that breed dogs for lunch?

"And in other news a story from china is breaking today, where some local vedors have announced discounted items for the first time in decades. It appears fur coats, slippers, intestine condoms, dog food, fresh beef and toothed neclaces are 50% off."

What if in this particular case their culture promotes the brutal termination of innocent life. There *are* far less savage ways of addressing the problem than posting dog bounties and having neighborhood club fests. For a nation that is so proud of itself, and wants everyone to see how modern they are, nothing says go China like a good ol' fashioned dog clubbing fair.

I'll critique ass-backwards behavoir like this all I please.

Someone else brought up the point that elsewhere in the world, such mentalities are generally accepted. While that does give us a bit of insight into their way of thinking it sure as heck does not justify their actions (not saying that is why you brought it up!). ****, not too long ago "everyone" thought the Earth was flat.

My comments were addressed to the "dogs for lunch" comments.

It's true killing dogs by beating them to death with a bat is an inhumane way of putting them to sleep. But like i said, criticizing one's culture because some may eat dogs is wrong. I stand by my statements.

I find it amusing that some place animal life above that of human beings. Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Alright david4zero8.

Since we all know that your refering to my post.

Instead of trying to make me out to be a racicst, why don't you go ahead and respond to the question that I asked, that was NEVER answered?

At what point was my question considered critisism????

If someone from another culture asked if we were breeding chickens and cows to eat, would you consider it "WRONG"????

A lot of cultures breed cows and chickens as a food source. In Asia it's not abnormal to use dogs as any other protein source. Just because it's not a norm in western cultures doesnt make it wrong. I believe you were being critical of this point by the statement below.

Both these statements above i find offensive. Yeah ok, we understand that they eat dogs from time to time. But to make a joke about, basically assuming the dogs being slaughtered because of RABBIES will end up on their kitchen table. That's messed up.

Did the cow(s) that were found to have mad cow disease and then slaughtered end up on some Canadians' kitchen table?

Edit: No Hype. What can i say? I NEVER called you a racist. Let's just get that fact straight. I believe you were being a little insensitive in your comments; you do not. I'm not going to change your opinion on the matter. You're not going to change mine. What's the point in continuing this...?

(1) Actually I was using humor to lighten up a seriously dark subject. (I apologize for offending you.)

(2) I was.

(3) Excactly.
