My dog found this intruder in my hallway. I am having a real problem with these spiders this year, it is some kind of wolf spider. This is the biggest I have seen by far-and pregnant. The little dots on it are baby spiders the size of fleas that were popping off.

I am the biggest baby when it comes to spiders. Ugh, I hate those ugly ass things. My parents would get one or two in their basement every year around this time that were with their legspan the size of a silver dollar. Want to see a big guy act like a crybaby little girl put a spider on me. Its all over from there lol.

You must just love Indiana Jones movies. Specially the scene where he has to put his hands into some dark hole filled with spiders and crazy lookin bugs.
 
thats small. spiders dont bother me unless they are big. i live in hawaii and tropical weather brings ****aroaches. i ****in cant stand em i will flip out

spiders or flying ****aroaches? what would u prefer in your house? haha

Every time I go to the pet shop to buy mice for my snake I have to walk past a row of tarantulas and scorpions. Dude I walk past them so fast its ridiculous and the hairs on the back of my neck still stand up.

One of the guys I train with has a tarantula. He has its container right next to his alarm clock. Said numerous times he has knocked the lid of trying to hit snooze rolled over and went back to bed. He said he has woken up with the thing on his pillow and once on his chest. If that were me I might $hit/piss myself and have a heart attack/panic attack/stroke all at once if I woke up in that situation. Fvck that!

Edit: I got chills/goosebumps just typing that post. Lol.
 
I love spiders. There used to be this HUGE spider, no idea what type, that lived outside by the dumpster at the restaurant I used to work at. At night during the garbage run we'd bring it little pieces of raw crab meat and throw in in its web. The freakin' thing got HUGE. Freaky Huge!!

It looks like a common wolf spider.

I'm the same way when it comes to spiders and bugs, I can mess with them all day but the second its on me its over with.
 
freakiest spider i've seen - camel spider. some of the pics are exaggerated but when the bastard is running towards you with his two front legs pointing at you, the first thing on your mind isn't - that pic was fake.
 
Aren't wolf spiders the ones that can jump something like 30 times the length of their body?

I lived in MD growing up and my bedroom was in the basement...needless to say I saw way too many spiders! I moved to FL about 10 years ago and let me tell you...I'm pretty sure that the bugs in FL stack SD and PP b/c everything is hyoooge down here! And about those flying ****roaches...I swear they fly right at you. At least up north the bugs ran away from me :run: and not towards me!
 
Maybe I played a little too much D&D or video games in my youth... all I can think about is "Kill the spider and take it's MONEY!" Any spider than can haul around coins must be worth some good XP.:rofl:
 
Ha that is not that large for a wolf spider. I get them in my house and seen one or two that where just massive. At least double the size of the one you posted. I hear the can bite hard as hell to but never have been bitten by one. I did get bit by a large black and yellow(I think its called a field spider) when I was in grade school and my finger throbbed like a ***** all day.

We have them here in AZ although we call them sun spiders. They are some freaky assd deals. When I do night surveys during the monsoons they are out in droves and will run towards any kind of movement because they can't see very well.

I'd pee myself if one bit me. lol

The bugs in FL have criminal records and last known addresses. They are not to be ****ed with.
 
I work sith a guy whos son is in Iraq right now and he told us about some sort of desert spider that is as big as a persons hand and very aggressive, they caught one the other night and put it in a tuperware bowl to save and show everyone, when they came back later it had eaten a FREAKIN hole in the bowl and was gone, that is some crazy ****. I have no real fear about spiders, but that one would have me screaming like a little *****.......

My Mom got bit by one and did not go to the Dr. for like 17 hrs, and then the hillbilly Dr. did not know what kinda bite it was, so he left it alone for a couple more days, then her arm started turning black, and when it was all over with and they figured out what it was, she lost a section of the underside of her forarm that is about 8" long and 2" wide and about a 1/4" deep.... Plus, before they figured it out, they called me and told me that my mother had passed away on table, but they managed to bring her back... Don't mess with those spiders.
Had a friend that wrote a paper over these spiders in college, and it said that every house in America has at least 3 to 5 of these spiders in it. Not sure how true that is, but thats the info he got.
 
Anyway, thats not a spider, THIS IS A SPIDER !!!!

As if out troops did not have enough worry about fighting the war, they also have to watch out for these spiders. I have heard that they are posionus and then I have read that they are not, so You make the call. Anyway, It is a Big Ass spider :shock: to have to watch for. My Mother just got back from Germany and she had been talking to a guy that was in the Army, and he was telling her about them and how big they were.

AFIK, Camel spiders arent even really spiders (in the arachnid family though) and although their bite is pretty nasty, it doesnt cause deep skin necrosis like the poison of the Brown Recluse.

They are quite the bad-ass bug though. When i first saw those army pics of the Camel spiders, all I could think of was Starship Troopers:)

Damn that thing is knarly looking. I've ran into quite a few Black Widows and the make me nervous as hell. I caught one once, because my mind was out to lunch. I would surely hate to get bitten by one of those little critters. Luckily, any spider that comes into my room has to face my cat who will immediately paw it to death. :lol:
 
Bugs make me frollic around like a little schoolgirl also.

And about the bugs in FL being big thats no lie........when i lived in clearwater i used to be scared ****less by these soap bar-sized grasshoppers.....they were red and twirled like a helicopter out of control when they flew, and there was never just one thier were hundrens.

Im to afraid to kill a spider or whatever by hand in my house, all the bugs come out when its late at night and noone is around to help, so i get those spray dusters shake them up, turn them upside down and freeze the bastards....it works great plus its fun.

Thanks to this thread i keep feeling something crawling on me so now i have to scan the room for bugs.
 
I watched a Fear Factor where the contestants had to eat camel spiders. They were probably about 3" long, so there not small. Funny thing was, one of the contestants bit the butt off one and accidentally dropped the other half and it still took off running missing its back half. Nasty looking things thats for sure.
 
THat's crazy how they do that on FearFactor - Im surprised animal rights groups havent said anything. After all , bugs need love too:D

The first time I saw those big ass grasshoppers flying around I thought they were birds. I wasn't driving, but they made an awful crunching sound as the car hit them/ran them over!

I was in the Marines, and did 2 tours out to "the big sand box" and I hate camel spiders(even though we used to catch them to make them fight against each other, or against scorpions or anything else we could catch:fool2: !) There was one other bug that was victorious against a cmel spider, and that was a huge Praying Mantis! Those things fight tactical as hell!! But anywho, I hate spiders, and........chills on my spine....those nasty freaking huge flying ****roaches!! YUK!!! THose things are nasty! By the way, while out in Iraq the first time around, we were told that Camel Spiders will bite you while youare sleeping, but youwill not feel it because there venoum numbs the site of the bite, and that it would cause necrosis to your flesh. Don't know if that is true though. I will say this though, they are VERY aggressive, and yes they will run toward you ready to fight!:bruce3:
 
that's the way i understood it too. they're called camel spiders because they leap onto the bellies of camels, inject venom that deadens the area, then start feeding. the camel is none the wiser. the reason they run towards us is because of our shadows. my buddy and i came across one for the first time and his shadow went across it. the bastard lifted up his two front legs and started running towards us. i literally couldn't breathe and i remember thinking of what i should do "shoot the bastard, throw a grenade, or haul ass." the guy i was with was in hysterics at the time so of course the spider went after him while i stood there perplexed watching this 6" long spider chase my corporal down the sandy streets of Al Jaber AFB.

:rofl: :toofunny: :toofunny: !!! Yeah, I've me and a couple of my buddies have run around a little in circles while one of these ****ers chased us with its front legs up ready to swing! Oh yeah, and I stand corrected Beelze, you are correct about them eating flesh. I was thinking that it was that their bite caused necrosis, but it is that they numb you an in fact do feast on your flesh!!

So after I checked out this picture I have been extremely intrigued by this nightmarish creature! That picture shows something huge being held, yet everything that I have read (like National Geographic articles) states that these things are only six inches stretched out...The thing in the picture looks WAY bigger than that. Could you guys that were overseas comment on this (and much respect to those who have served).

This thread has turned into a car wreck for me. It makes me squirm looking at it, but I can't stop!
 
i didn't see any as big as those pics. the largest one was about the size of my hand, legs and all - which is still a pretty big fvcking spider if you ask me, lol.

Yeah, there werent any that were as big as that one. It was the way that the picture was taken also, that makes it look even bigger. I didn't see any as big as my hand, but close to it, but none the less, that is big enough for me!! There is no way I would try and catchthem to make them fight if they were that big!!! Well I actually, I can't take credit for being the one that caught those damn things, shoot, I used to be ready to run in case one of these things got out of the bucket when they were fighting!:run: I would catch scorpions though, they don't freak me out like the spiders.

no, they don't run THAT fast, but they're pretty damn fast. i think they can get up to 10mph or something like that. which is hauling ass for something the size of your hand, looks like a horror movie kicking up sand, lol. there was a rumor that they screamed when running towards you but i've never heard it. if the bastard had screamed, i really would have chucked a grenade at him and then opened fire with the SAW. then i would have curled up into the fetal position and cried.
 
Beelz, I'd have opened fire on that bastard if it were me. I don't do spiders at all. In South America they have some biggins, I never ran into one, THANK GOD!! I'd have given up my position because I crapped myself. The only thing I came across down there was a big assed red centipede. The damned thing crawled up my pants leg and decided to make a meal out of my leg. The whole time Shining Path rebels are walking past me, about 3 metres away. I damned well know I sweated off 3 lbs before I could kill it. I still have the fangs in my leg as a souvenir, lol!!

and all of a sudden we heard beelze open fire with his SAW and yell" DIE MOTHER****ER DIE...DIE MOTHER ****ER DIE!!" lol!!! Yeah, I woul have melted the barrel on a SAW if one of those damned things came running at me....AND screaming!!:aargh:

Crank the tread mill up to 10mph the next time you're on one...you'd be surprised how fast that is! Most bugs you can just step on, but not when they're moving like that! I made a mistake like that once and the damn thing went up my pant leg when I missed it! My boss laughed hysterically...I on the other hand did not...

Same here, big freaking cry baby when it comes to spiders!!!! Even the little ones. I make my wife kill them!

We have those wolf spiders all over the place in our business. I believe they don't have much venom to speak of though. They kill their prey by running it down and ripping it apart. Yuck!

If one of those things came at me running and screaming..... Look out Carl Lewis. Id be out of there so fast. Im getting the shivers just thinking about all these crazy ass spiders and bugs talked of in this thread.
Festering necrosis bites, rat sized running spiders, giant man-eating centipedes, flying ****roaches, people eating the butts of camel spiders. Remind me to stay FAR away from South America, Iraq, AND florida. (actually I've been to florida, and didnt see anything to crazy, but after readin this, I aint going back! Sorry Mickey, and Donald, no Epcot center for me.) And Fear Factor can kiss my ass, not even $50,000 is worth THAT traumatizing experience.:run: :aargh:

We have a whole bunch of hobo spiders in our house (aka brown recluse). I dont' pay them any mind. They won't bite you unless they are on your clothes when you put them on. So I always shake the clothes out.

No biggy.
