I think it takes 3 months to become fat adapted. I'm not sure why it is recomended after the break-in to immediately start lowering fat cals if you aren't 100% adapted.
I don't know that I'd equate the gluconeogenesis of amino's as the equivelant to carbs...
I agree. I think this is a completely seperate pathway apart from carb metabolism. It's not clear to me if this would be beneficial OR counterproductive in terms of the AD though.
I just have this recurring concept in my head that something to the effect of "why would I want to convert proteins or bcaa to energy?" This just seems like a waste for energy rather than for anabolism.
I have a had time justifying bcaa use in any diet because of that train of thought.
It certainly doesn't take 3 months. You will switch over after seven days at 30 carbs or less per day. You are better off going the full 12 days that are recommended though.
On the huge thread over at T-Nation some of the members were proclaiming that it could take up to three months to become fully adapted. I do not know there backgrounds but it sort of makes sense.
I do not have any scientific evidence behind this .
I was not trying to disprove anything as far as the time it takes to be adapted. Merely trying to spark some discussion.
I love this way of eating and hope to reach my goals more efficiently by eating this way. I have lost 2lbs since starting and my strength is still going up. I look and feel stronger.
The Dr. does not really talk about the time frame it takes to become fully adapted in the original version. I believe that i remember Disk Hoss talking about people who started out with the 5/2 phase and them taking up to 4 weeks to start humming along.
Was it because of the above that DiPasquale changed this in the Metabolic Diet by having a 12 day intro? To ensure that the are fat burners?
Could it be the case that people who are taking a long time to feel normal are not following the diet as Rx'ed? Or they are not as in tune with their bodies?
It could be a whole bunch of different things, including not following the diet precisely. There is actually a flowchart in the book to help you diagnose problems you may be having. Some people just don't burn fat as well as others and they have to have more carbs.
I seem to have had excellent energy up until the last 3 days. Today i started my first CHO up and feel really good. I am concentrating on Complex CHO and a few fruits.
I am sorry if my anecdotal evidence is contrary to what has been proven. I just started learning about this after Botch posted the link to that T-Nation thread.
Thank You Botch. Awesome read.
Well, exactly. I have been on the diet for years and have read the book and also talked personally with the creator of the diet. I believe what I read in the book, and what the good Dr. has told me, not what I read on a message board. I prefer to get my information directly from the horses mouth and not indirectly from an unreliable third party.
