breezy's training, supplementation, and food log

I feel for you Breezy....sounds like a forever long day. :(

Doesn't look like I'll be placing out of the 20+ in my height class (might be 30). They ran things a little weird due to the ridiculous amount of competitors, but I believe I was in the 2nd call out. I luckily ran into the head of the NPC (Steve Weinburner or something like that) outside and got to sit and talk with him gor a good 15 minutes. He let me know that making 1st call out could've gone either way, but my waist was the issue. He said not to beat myself up over it because I looked great and can't do much about it (no side poses either). Other than that he thought my color could've been a little better. He told me that my build is much better suited for bodybuilding, which I definitely agree with. I'm eating some food and trying to hold back in liquid, so I still look decent for the night show regardless. Steve said he'll see if there's anything else he notices tonight, which I really appreciate. Either way, I came in very lean, dry, vascular, around 210lbs, and happy with my appearance. I'll have to sit down this weekend and figure out if I still want to compete at Team U or just start getting massive for the bodybuilding stage.

Good to see you're gonna stop being a homo-joe physique boy like I was and GFH and switch to bodybuilding

All honesty though, you killed it and did what you all you could. Comes a time when you gotta move on to bigger and better things, which is you in some trunks! Let's plan on taking the year off to grow an hit the Dallas Europa next year, you as a HW and me as a LHW, we'll pose down for the overall. Easy enough, right? Lol

Thanks man. It was rough, but I'm very glad that I stuck it out until the end. Didn't get top 5 though.

Lol sounds like a plan. Especially after what could be the coolest experience I've ever had. I'll text you and post here after I get home and gain a quick 20lbs lol.

I agree with others about you being more suited for bodybuilding. Not taking anything away from your stunning physique it's just you look so natural as a beastly mofo! Great work either way breezy. You will always be my hero! ;)

In the end, sounds like you still had a great experience. I am with everyone else though, go BB!

Thanks guys. Bodybuilding it is! I had a good time either way and got to experience what it's like to compete at a very high level show. I actually just saw Jose Raymond (Pro BB and judge) post that the number of competitors and quality were on par with the Junior USA's, which took place on the same day.

As I was heading out after the night show, I saw Steve Weinberger sitting with Jay Cutler in the lobby and went over to ask if he had any additional feedback. He said "I missed it, but you know what, take your shirt off". It was pretty awkward being in the theatre lobby, but I listened and he once again confirmed that I should move to bodybuilding and Cutler agreed as well. He said if I tried to get to the top of physique, I'd most likely be "banging my head against a wall" with the way I'm built. He also thought my arms were getting too big for physique, which I thought was a little weird. They had me hit a few poses and said to work on bringing my upper chest up this offseason and start rocking the BB stage. It was a surreal, but awesome experience, which completely made my night, probably more than placing in the top 5 would've. I'm thinking that I should probably listen to them and make the move.

On to BB we go! Awesome to hear that feedback and seems like some high level people sending you in that direction....I'll admit I am scared how crazy shredded you'll get for a BB show.

That's awesome you had Cutler giving you advice like that.

Inb4 the 280lb 6% Breezy

Doesn't get much better than that lobby experience... that is pretty awesome!

Lol thanks guys. Yeah, it was probably one of the coolest experiences of my life; definitely awkward, but definitely awesome. Getting feedback from the head of the NPC and Jay Cutler is an amazing opportunity and I probably would've never spoke to Steve in the first place if I had made first call outs.

Great feedback and that's a good way of looking at things. That confirms that these things happen for a reason. Glad you had fun! :-)

Thanks g-kix! Yeah, doing better would've been nice, but at this point I'm honestly not upset about it at all. I'm definitely fired up for the move to bodybuilding though.

I was in rough shape yesterday and am still recovering today. After a ton of sleep, water, and food I made it back to the gym for a leg session this afternoon.

Seated Leg Curls
-5 sets pyramiding up with a triple drop and partials at the end

Explosive BB Back Squats
-8 sets of 6 working up

HS Split Squats
-3 sets with drops and iso-holds

Done using this machine with one foot placed over the back bar:

Invalid Link Removed

Performed similar to what is shown here:

I had a training partner to change plates during these. He's a HW BB that recognized me form backstage at the show and we are most likely going to train together a couple time per week...as long as he doesn't mind some intensity.

Leg Press
-4 sets of very high rep and short rest: 2 sets feet close together/mid platform and 2 sets feet "frog style"/low platform

Occluded Leg Extensions
30, 15, 15, 15

My weight was up to 221 this morning (about 10lbs from stage) and I've been eating anything and everything that I want. My appearance is definitely watery, but not too bad. I went to Trader Joe's after the gym and will be back to tracking my intake and starting my post-contest/mass gaining nutrition plan tomorrow. It's the same approach I used after my last show, and after hearing a recent interview, I found out that it's very similar to Matt Porter's approach as well...carbs will be doubled fast and increasing from there at a good pace.

Thanks Monte, I'm pretty excited too. Yeah he's the man and has stepped up his marketing game lately as well. I've been considering reaching out to him for nutrition because his approach is very similar and seems to fit me perfectly. If I could swing it, I'd get training from Meadows and have Matt handle nutrition/prep.

Would be an amazing combination.....probably rather expensive but would produce some great results I'm sure.

Yeah, that's why I'll probably be sticking with coach breezy :D. It would be cool to see what it's like having someone else plan everything though.

This is where, and I believe right after, I received the additional feedback from these 2 guys. If you can't tell from the video, Steve was very straightforward with his feedback and advice. Still no competition pics available at this point.

Was thinking about doing this exact thing as well at some point.

Good to hear you're moving to bbing breezy. Time to grow buddy

Yeah, it'd be great working with them. I don't have the funds to make that happen now though.

Thanks man. That's the plan.

I may just hire this breezy guy at some point lol

Coach breezy? Hmmm.

Haha I heard he currently has some openings, but is a pain in the ass to deal with.

Still feeling a little rundown this morning, but hit my chest/shoulders hard and had an awesome session. I loved having all of my peri-workout nutrition back in place as well. All the carbs the last couple of days and around my training had my shoulders painfully pumped.

i've seen his workout logs. not sure of his full on nutrition, he keeps it pretty secretive. i could see it being a pain in the ass. or any other muscle worked..

Haha nutrition can vary quite a bit based on the individual and goals (no cookie cutter plans), but I like to include some mix of protein, carbs, and healthy fats...plus "have-a-life" and "cheat" meals.

Yep, pretty sure Coach Breezy would put you through hell and back... but it'd be with worth it.

Haha I'd love to, but that would depend on someone's goal, training experience, and how hard they are willing to work. I like everyone to be as happy as possible (given the circumstances). Having someone miserable everyday usually doesn't work out very well for anyone.

If those guys only knew! Haha.

Torture, all day, everyday. I know one person that seems to be gaining some muscle and strength, while leaning out. :)

I trained back tonight. My lower back has been in rough shape since the comp (probably from standing around all day/night) and I had to avoid anything that could put any extra strain on it. It feels like my sciatica could be aggravated every time I struggle to put on socks and shoes. That said, the session went very well and my back took a beating. Pumps continued to be uncomfortably strong.

Wide Neutral Grip Pulldowns
160x8
170x8
180x8
190x6 + 10 second iso-hold
200x6 + 10 second iso-hold, 120x8 +10 second iso-hold

-quick flex at the bottom, stopping concentric right before arms completely straightened out

Prone DB Rows
55x15 (~68 degree incline)
60x10 (~68 degree incline)
60x10 (~68 degree incline)
60x10 (~45 degree incline)
60x10 (~45 degree incline)
60x10 (~22 degree incline)
60x10 (~22 degree incline)

-weight per arm, pronated grip, both arms at once

-smooth pumping rhythm with a quick flex

-these felt amazing and worked my entire back from bottom to top

DB Pullovers
60x8
60x8
60x8 + 10 second iso-hold

Seated Low Rows
150x10
160x10
170x10
180x10

-keeping chest arched, hard flex

-used this attachment: Invalid Link Removed

High Pull Low Rows
20x15
20x15
20x15

-light weight, very strict form

Here's an old example. I did these similar to what is shown in the second half of the video, but form was a little tighter (zero momentum).

High Pull Scapular Retraction Rows (or something like that)
20x15
40x10
40x10

-I came up with these on the fly and loved them. I stood up where I did the previous exercise (seated cable row machine) and pulled the rope up towards my chest, while retracting my scapulae and flexing my upper back for 2 seconds. Much like the previous exercise, these had a very high focus on the mind-muscle connection.

I had an early morning leg session. Once again, I was limited with what I could do because of lower back issues. It felt alright while training, but seems to be getting worse as the day goes on. I'll be avoiding and back/leg work until I see improvement.

Lying Leg Curls
40x20
60x15
80x12
100x10
120x8
140x6, 80x8, 140x25 partials

-strict form, hard flex

Banded Hack Squat
machine x25 (no lockout)
bands x25 (no lockout)
50 + bands x15 + 10sec isotension (no lockout)
90 + bands x10 + 10sec isotension (no lockout)
90 + bands x10 + 10sec isotension (no lockout) + bands x5 (3sec eccentric/2sec pause in hole) + 10sec rest (lockout) + bands x5 (3sec eccentric/2sec pause in hole)

-Pro Minis and Pro Monster Minis used for all band work

-isotension: lowered halfway to the bottom and held in place, fighting the tension of the weight/bands

-These had my legs ready to explode. It was a challenge getting my legs to fold up and fit in the leg press machine for the next exercise.

-I tried to record the final set, but my phone crapped out. I was pretty pissed because the battery was full. Here's a pic of the setup though:

Seated Leg Press Machine / Teardrop Busters
15 / 10
15 / 10
15 / 10

-don't know weight used

-leg press: constant tension, feet close together and low on platform

Here's an old example of teardrop busters:

Seated Leg Press Machine / Leg Extensions
10 / 6 (2sec flex at top) + 12 (partials out of bottom)
10 / 6 (2sec flex at top) + 12 (partials out of bottom)
10 / 6 (2sec flex at top) + 12 (partials out of bottom)

-leg press: "frog style", 3sec eccentric, 1sec pause (let weight bottom out), exploding to lockout

Occluded Seated Leg Curls
30, 15, 15, 15

Great sessions there Breezy... hope the lower back starts to feel better. I know all about Sciatic pain... not fun!

Great sessions there Breezy... hope the lower back starts to feel better. I know all about Sciatic pain... not fun!

Thanks, wasme. Yeah, the pain is pretty bad at this point. Trying to move after sitting down for a while is a big struggle and I've had to grab on to something a few times to avoid dropping to the ground. The slightest wrong move (or no move at all) feels like being stabbed in the spine.

Here's an afternoon meal:

Invalid Link RemovedInvalid Link Removed
*chicken breast, egg whites, omega eggs, spinach, chili garlic sauce (very spicy), fresh cracked black pepper, sea salt, red palm oil (used a small amount to cook eggs/fats will increase in a few weeks)

I'm consuming 475g carbs today, but they're being kept to peri-workout and my final meal of the day (when training in morning). My carb intake will be much higher eventually (double and more on some days ) and they'll be spread out more throughout the day.

Hope the back feels better man. Get well.

Hope your pain goes away soon bro.

That chili garlic sauce sounds like something I need.. Is it store bought or do you have a recipe?

^^ I like this stuff better than regular Sriracha. I assume this is what Breezy is talking about, and yeah, it's pretty spicy.

Have you gotten sciatica pain before? That doesn't sound pleasant. Take care of yourself!

Yup, it's been a reoccurring issue for 10+ years. It usually gets aggravated once or twice a year and it's always something random that sets it off. I've never had the pain start while lifting or doing anything physical...last time I was tying my shoe. Thanks, will do.

It's store bought and you probably need it.

Hope the back feels better man. Get well.

Thanks man. If I do any training, it'll be light arms with the majority being occlusion work.

Thanks man. That's the stuff! The spicier, the better.

Killer workouts!!!! The food pics look amazing!!!!!

Thanks bud.

My back is feeling better, but not 100%. I was able to train arms yesterday and hit chest/shoulders today. My gym just got a ton of new equipment (and didn't get rid of any), so there was a lot of new machines that I could try, which were easy on my back. In addition to every plate loaded HS machine, there is now all of the "weight stack" MTS HS machines as well. There's a chance that my gym now has more equipment than any gym in history lol.

I don't remember exactly what was done for arms yesterday, but it included some machine and occlusion work. Here's one of the new HS machines, which was easily the best bicep machine that I've ever used. The tension it provided and the contraction I could get was amazing for a machine. My elbows are actually positioned up above chin level, which is hard to tell from the short clip. I went back and used it for a bi/tri occlusion superset as well.

Here's today's session

Banded MTS HS Incline Press
2 warm-up sets of 10
5 sets of 8 (working up until failing to get 8)

-I looped bands around the handles and under the bar running along the bottom of the machine. It provided a ton of extra tension and I preferred it over the banded plate loaded HS press.

Banded Smith Incline Press
6 sets: 20, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6 + 8 (drop)

-planned on reverse band incline, but forgot the Pro Light bands

Incline DB Flye-Press
3 sets of 10 with drops to standard banded DB flyes

Lying Rear Delt Raises

4 sets working up: 25, 15, 10, 8 + 10 (drop)

-focused on hinging at shoulders to keep tension on rear delts, as opposed to upper/mid back

10 and 2 O'Clock Laterals
4 sets of 8

-to eye level/ slow and controlled eccentric

Rear Delt Extensions
3 sets of 10

-cable/ D-handle attachment

Reverse HS Machine Press
3 sets of 8

4 second eccentric/ 2 sec pause /explosive concentric to lockout /2 second flex

I don't understand how the NPC (or whoever) could drop the ball like that, especially at a big show, which I found out had 500+ (now pissed off) competitors (24 in my height class). I believe there were at least 4 BB media outlets there as well, but apparently none brought a photographer.

Hopefully, I can find some pics from one of the other competitors at some point. Either way, my weight has been sitting at 222lbs for the last few days and look forward to competing as a bodybuilder.

Wow that is weak they didn't have a photographer at an NPC show.

Was looking forward to some pictures of you compared to the others.

Wicked weak. I know NPC news, FLEX, and RX Muscle were there doing/filming interviews. They probably should have made a phone call in the morning when they realized there were no photographers. The show didn't end until around midnight and it's not like it was in the middle of nowhere either.

Me too. Just picture a 210lb guy with a 36" waist standing next to 160-185lb guys with 26"-30" waists lol.

Haha, damn dude. Now I really wanna see comparison shots.

A lot of the guys looked pretty big for their size and definitely had the "physique" look. I've come to realize that I can't pull that off very well with my build, especially if I can't use a side pose. Trying to look beastly and flexing, as opposed to standing and trying to look pretty, seems like a lot more fun too.

Not a good picture, but this guy took 2nd in my class (great kid and one of the heavier competitors at 185lbs). I believe the guy that took 1st was around 180lbs and had been training for 2 years.

I think this was part of the 1st call outs in the height class below mine. The guy on the right is in his 50's:

Eeeesh. What a load of suck.

Bbing for the win breeze. You're going to do very well me thinks :)

Oh and +1 on the 36 inch waist here to lol. Dem dare child bearing hips!

Training for 2 years!? Crazy! I hope I look as good as him when I'm in my 50's!

Haha yeah. I randomly met his "good friend" the other day and that's what I was told (a lot of supplementation too). That guy is in excellent shape. There was another 50+ guy in the HW bodybuilding class that looked amazing as well.

Yup, not very cool.

Thanks man, I hope to do pretty well.

Lol nice. That's after dropping a notch on my belt too.

No gym today, as I'll be working shortly and until the gym is closed. Hopefully, my back continues to improve, but I'll be on my feet all day, which probably won't help.

Edit: Here's the older BB. It'd be great to be in that condition at any age.

Wow, that guy is in amazing shape!

Yeah, I could see him winning a few classes and possibly overall at some shows, but don't think he even won anything in Masters.
