**** is crazy man. TEDx is coming to my colleges campus this Saturday and I was signed up to help with the event and two days ago they find writing in one of the bathrooms of a lecture hall basically making threats to shoot up the campus on Saturday. Since TEDx is the only real event going on that day and its a sold out event now I'm scared to show up. People are crazy and you just can't know
 
very sad. especially when i heard about the 8 year old boy who was waiting for his Daddy at the finish line. It makes you want to cry
 
I was supposed to go down there today to help with security but couldn't. The town is pretty crazy. Definitely a heightened sense of awareness now.

Some of the pictures are horrendous. Feel terrible for those families
 
normally i would rant and rave...get on my soapbox and spew venom....



but after looking at video's and pics all i could think of was to send my best regards to those who are suffering!!!


it's times like these when i just want to hug my loved ones and tell them i love them!!!!

I really believe this is some the media and we as people should be focusing on. Instead of blood gore and fear from all of this instead let us focus on mans amazing strength and perserverence to do good in the midst of all the chaos

exactly...i would rather hear stories about people who put the welfare of others above their own personal safety, than interviews with so called experts who really don't have anything pertinent to say.
 
america is diverse, with many different oppossing factions...but one thing that has been proven time after time, in times of crisis we come together!!!

it is not corporate america that makes us great, our strength lies in our people!!!
 
ok, now that the dust has settled somewhat i am curious about a few things that the media doesn't seem to want to take on.

1st. did anyone refuse to let military dressed armed police search their home?
2nd. what was the action of police if refused entry?
3rd. what if suspected criminal activity was observed outside of the bombing, did the police just pretend not to see it? if guns were found for example...or pot growing in basement....
4th. why haven't the media been asking these questions?

1) Not sure
2) If they had probable cause or court order to search the house, (there's a terrorist on the loose..probable cause) then they would have to compelled compliance.
3) It's not a crime in MA to have guns in your house. If pot was growing in a basement and I was legally allowed inside whatever space I was in then that would be considered a plain view discovery and the owner could possibly be held accountable. I know if I were searching for a terrorist, I wouldn't give a ****. Most officers are just like any normal person. There's greater things at stake. There was actually an image of a police officer in a flak jacket and ballistic helmet walking up to a house with 2 gallons of milk because they searched a home with children in it and they were locked down and ran out of milk so the mother asked him to go to the corner store.
4) I don't think the media is bringing up issue because it most likely wasn't an issue.

There could be multiple laws that may cover a citizens rights during a search like that. Who knows. I know a few cops in the area here so I'll ask them and find out.

about #4...please tell me you didn't say this isn't an issue...i am 54 and never seen this happen before, at least not here in the u.s.a.

my issue is now that they have done this, what circumstances in the future will allow this to happen again? this is the question the media should be asking, imo.

From my understanding these perimeter searches in the homes were more for the safety of the residents and the surrounding area. I'd imagine they wanted to make sure this guy wasn't holding up in someone's home and threatening to kill them if they move or call the police. I'm sure they initially asked the residence if they mind if they come in and search the house and if someone says no they didn't force their way in, I could be wrong though.

I do see where your coming from bigt and it is quite shocking and intriguing and what could possibly happen next in this circumstance.

but the p;oint is the media didn't clarify what was actually happening with those searches, which should have been paramount for a responsible media to do!!! did they have a federal judge sign off on warrants-don't know, the media never said...to suspend constitutional rights is a big thing, and none of the media even discussed this......

There were actually videos/pictures submitted to the local media by homeowners and interviews with some as well. They went to each house asking if they could search (I believe mainly basements that weren't locked) and everyone seemed to be fine with it from what I saw. There was an interview where a guy walked the news crew around telling them everywhere that was searched. I think he said they looked in closets, but didn't open any of his cabinets. I don't know if they had warrants or anything though.

see...that is my point. going house to house conducting searches IS A BIG DEAL!!! why are we left having to guess, isn't that what we have a free press for-to tell us what is happening and to point out possible consequences? i just don't understand why this wasn't discussed more in the media....
 
I guess I don't see it as a huge deal. There's a terrorist on the loose in the neighborhood. I'd be disappointed if cops didn't search my house.."what if this mf'er is in my basement!"

i sat there watching one news guy/gal after another say in all of their years of reporting they had never seen anything like those house to house searches....and yet there was no debate on where to draw the line or possible consequences!!!


what is done is done...but what does the future hold?
 
just like with the military, i think we can support the boots on the ground while still having questions about policy. in no way am i trying to slam those that lay it on the line for the safety of us all.


with that said we all need to do all we can to protect our constitutional rights, in particular our right to own guns...as good as the police are, usually when they arrive the damage has already been done. i feel that it is my responsibilty to protect my family, if someone is trying to break into my house i will call 911 to tell them the suspects are dead, calling 911 1st puts my family at risk and that is not going to happen. fight for your rights people!!!
 
I don't think Americans don't care. I just don't think they feel there is anything they can do and isn't portrayed in the media. I feel bad for starving children in war torn Africa, you dont see that on the news often, yet we have a military and diplomatic presence there.

BigT, I hear ya, protect our constitutional rights. I'm a gun owner and have licensing to carry in over 30 states. Trust me, I'm all for it. I should say however that I fully support the government kickin down doors to find a terrorist. It's on our homeland and they had to take action to protect those people.

having seen 1st hand what it is like to live in a police state under martial law i just hope and pray we never see that here. i was in the philipines when marcos had declared martial law from 72-81. i got there at the tail end of it but there are no rights under martial law and the constitution is suspended!!!

i just hope and pray what happened in boston wasn't a trial run to see what the reaction of people would be if certain rights were suspended, once even one right is revoked the entire constitution is at risk, imo.


look at what our founding fathers were up against...and their reply was 'GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH'.

if we give up our rights we will be safe from criminals...police states are as crime free as you can get. all you have to fear is your neighbor telling the govt that you are suspicious and being incarcerated with no protection or rights.


freedom comes at a cost!!! how much freedom are we willing to give up? if we give up our freedom that means the terrorists win-actually that is the point of terrorism, to change our way of life, because they are jealous of our freedoms, imo.

what i am suggesting is that the constitution has served us well for over 200 years, i am not going to let fear persuade me that it has outlived it's usefullness. a society needs rules, and to me that includes those who enforce the rules!!!

Nope was a serious question. I am genuinely curious. When the one brother was caught and the other ran the shut down the roads to close off the neighborhood, instituted a 24 he curfew and went door to door asking if they if they seen anything and if they can look around the house. Where is the problem? What would be the alternative to this?

While I can appreaciate your concern and can see where your coming from, this distopic future you paint for the US, while certainly plausible, is quite a stretch. We are not a third world country and to think something like that will happen here in any sort of immediate timeline is irrational. I would much rather focus on our present then the "what if's" that are the result of a slippery slope logical fallacy

The other day, Obama for whatever reason read off his teleprompter and urged a graduating Ohio State class to “reject” warnings about government “tyranny” and to place more trust in the state.

A little late to the party...but actually in instances they were forcibly going door to door and forcing the families to exit their homes by gunpoint and even forced to run down the street. All this without a warrant.

and the press never even reported this....in my neighborhood with dogs and motion sensors and everyone owning guns, he never would have made it to that boat. i would like to see the mayor of gary or chicago tell citizens to stay in their house and hide, lol. i bet the good citizens of chicago would have hunted those 2 down.

indeed...i saw this coming, after the boston bombings freedom and constitutional rights are really taking a hit!!!

the question is how much freedom are we willing to sacrifice for a false sense of security!!!

drones.....let me see, i think the fbi is in charge of use of drones in the u.s.a....and the fbi comes under the jurisdiction of the dept of justice which comes under the....oh no.....eric holder is in charge!!!
