BIGGER, FASTER, STRONGER: Snag's Recipe for a [NATURAL] Recomp, Competition Style!

I don't think cottage cheese before bed (or a shake for that matter) is a horrible thing, but yeah, my preference would be to not do so.
Now, what I do think is overrated, is setting your alarm clock to wake up in the middle of the night to drink a shake or slam some BCAA's. Know a few guys who do that; my feeling is continuous & uninterupted zzz's is far more important than waking to get some protein in ya..
That being said, I often do wake up in the middle of the night (like at least once, sometimes twice to pee), since I drink so much damn water, and in cutting periods, sure - I'll take advantage of some BCAA's laying next to my bed and pop them, encouraging not only protein synthesis, but some fat-shedding effect as well. I just make the distinction that I don't pre-set an alarm, or roam out to the kitchen to grab some aminos, to do so.

My nightstand is actually a little refrigerator. You know what it's stocked with? Turn the page to read up on the hard science...

...NitroTECH Hardcore!

Hahaaaa..you know I'm just playin' man.
You could spend all day going thru these things, geez..

EDIT: it'll be interesting to see how much fun DragonFly has with all these!! :D

Sweet..I want to see how to dry up the Storm. Snag, if bulking, do you agree with a casein shake before bed. I just get tired of being awakened at 3 by my stomach hunger pangs.

Hey Kyle, I just saw you got a link down here on the bottom of the page for X-Dreams.. cool. Never really noticed that till now.

Mid, yes casein is great before bed, in bulk or cut. Bev Ultra Size is awesome before bed too. Mixing the two is da bomb.. Why do you wake up hungry in the middle of the night? That's not good.

Yeah Snag, excellent product! It actually increases quality of sleep. Most people want something that'll just knock them out at night. I usually need 8-9 hours to feel okay in the morning. I've been doing really well with 6.5 while using X-Dream. Sorry for the plug :borladuck:

I was thinking the same thing... but she uses about 30 times more than this already.

Sorry for the plug :borladuck:
Nah man, not at all, glad to hear it's working for ya. I've been getting @ 5hrs/night here lately, something needs to give.. solid sleep, but just would like to get a bit more, finding it tough to get back to sleep after that point. PowerFULL usually works so well for me; I'm just too amped & focused right now I guess..

Hey Snag have you ever experimented with glutamine before bed?
I've been doing 10g before bed for a while and I seem to wake up a lot more rested ever since.

Haven't done any glut since last yrs prep. That's one of the things I plan on bringing back into play when cals drop, @ 20g/day.

thats a lot of glut! How expensive is that>?
Less expensive than last yr! ;)
You have to remember, I've got a few sources I can utilize, so I can get pretty good prices on most things.
I'm a big fan of glut tho, when cals are well below maintenence. 5g surrounding workouts, 10g prior to bed. Awesome recovery, immune system benefits.

My new avy dedicated to Snag, his thread, his advice, and the contributions of those in this thread who have brought up some terrific insights.

Pic of the legs tonight.. Next round, I'll put upper & lower all in one shot, ahaa. We'll see how everything's fitting together.
Awesome wheels! I'll bet it's fun driving those around town!! :drive:

Sounds good. My personal preference is for 3hrs between meals, 6x daily. Sometimes I'll drop down to 2:45 between.
Every 2.5 is good too; the important thing imo is to not go past 3.5 - and never, ever go past 4hrs.
The no eating 2hrs prior to bed is a great guideline as well. If it's all protein tho, you could do 1-1.5 hrs prior to bed and still be okay..
You're doing fine brother, keep rolling with your plan.

Remember too guys, how often you eat depends on body type to a certain extent as well. Some are much more likely to be catabolic than others. I guess in the case of cutting though that does make it so that you have to be more careful because your on a calorie defecit in which case the 3.5 hour limit does make a lot of sense. On recomp it doesn't seem to matter much to me being an endo, as I eat close to or at maintenance calories.

Good point DW, body types & goals do play a part in this consideration. Just for me personally, I run the same time splits pretty much in any period - for what I believe to be the metabolic/protein synthesis benefits. Even in bulking periods, I'm not trying to get fat!! :donut:4

TG - thanks bro. I actually had to cut off the best part, the top of the legs where I feel development is more impressive. The pic was a bit too revealing tho, ahaa..
:drive: Dig the new smiley!!

Day #21 Cardio

30 minutes low-impact cardio, fasted upon rising, using 3min/2min splits bewteen the 4 & 3 setting on the wife's treadmill.
Don't know if these things are pretty standardized (not my area of expertise), but 4 was a very brisk pace, as quick as I could go without breaking into a jog, and 3 was more moderate. 2.5 minute warm-up/cooldown as well, not counted in the 30 minutes. Broke a decent sweat, got some news & Sportscenter watched..

Do you know what your HR was? I've been trying to keep it 155 and below during my cardio. If I do the treadmill, I put the incline all the way up and walk @ 3.1mph.

Snag, did you watch that report that Bush 1.0 and Bush 2.0 did with Brit Hume? Oh, that was so funny! I enjoyed it, and I like both of them to an extent (Bush senior more-so), but I was laughing so hard at GWB...My favorite part was when he stumbled for the word, "uh..umm...not respectful"...My bro and I looked at each other and go, "Unrespectful?"

Poor ol' GW will go down as the worst orator of any previous President!!

Snag, I've got a question to shoot by ya this morning. When I start something different next week after this recomp, I'm thinking of trying something a little different than the totally fasted training. I will still keep the bedtime meal the same. 1 chicken breast, 1 tablespoon of EVOO, and a handful of almonds. Upon waking I will consume protein only. Probably a freakin' steak!! Then 2 hours later I will take my "supps". 1 hour after that I will hit the weights. 30 minutes after that I will have a high-carb/high-protein/high good fats meal! This is not fasted training, but I still won't be having any carbs for 12 hours prior to training. Does this make any kind of sense at all??!!

Legit log man (although I only read pages 1-3 because 35 is way to daunting).

Following along from here though.

I'm also curious about your hr with the empty stomach. I'm doing my first cut that doesn't include it weekly (only if I feel like it), and essentially all my cardio will be HIIT with some feed steady state.

GW is an illiterate mug fo sho.. Agree with Senior doing a decent job. But let's not talk politics..

TG - I'm not one to tell ppl not to experiment; had I not done a slew of experimentation with all kinds of different protocols, I wouldn't have found half the things I enjoy doing.
That being said: The format you laid out, I would not personally run. FT serves a purpose, brings some bodily processes into play, that you will skew when you consume food in the morning. If you want to eat first thing in the morning, I would recommend getting some carbs in; if the idea is to still shoot for leaning out, then just use lower carbs. Grapefruit, 1/4 to 1/2 cup oats along with that meat.
I like this approach much more than just a protein/fat breakfast..
The important part of training fasted is to force the body to burn fat for fuel: fat oxidization. Once you eat, the body will turn to that source for fuel first; and then muscle stores next; and then fat stores. This defeats the whole lipolytic process we want to incur with rising FT..

Legit log man
You'd expect anything less OCC?
About time you showed up, haven't seen ya in a long while.. :welcome:
(although I only read pages 1-3 because 35 is way to daunting).
 That was my fear when this thing started getting looooong. Of course, I didn't help things with all the food pics..
You might wanna peruse the rest, lotta good stuff in here I feel.

 ..see point above. Bro, I don't even know where anything's at in this thread anymore, but the FT (what we now call fasted training) protocol has been laid out well within this, and I'm not going to rehash & repeat this again..
You're just going to have to do a little work my friend! :study:

Gotcha bro. Just trying to have the best of both worlds. And that's not always possible.
Toney Freeman says he keeps carbs very low while eating lots of protein and healthy fats. That's the way I'll go. Stay big and lean at the same time. Gotta have some carbs for workout fuel though.
Lucky for me, I don't crave carbs. I just had my second meal: Big steak, egg-white omelette with lowfat cheddar cheese, onions, and some tobasco sauce in with the eggs. I can eat like a caveman forever!! I have to force myself to eat most carbs....just not what my tastebuds desire.
Thanks Snag!!!

Sure - this was my approach for yrs man. Nothing wrong with this approach at all. You just have to understand that, with the USP products in play (AP/Pslin), I don't have to go that route anymore, and I'm enjoying putting carbs to use!

Hahaa..Timber, I feel ya.
Since I'm sitting here at GNC.. here's a quick fix for ya. They're running the BOGO 50% on all sports supps this month, and Pslin at GNC is only $39.99, so...
either pick up 2 boxes for $60 bones, or pick up something else you need at 1/2 price.. works in a pinch bro.

GNC has P-Slin caps?

Wow, guess I need to go check that out. I do need some more protein and BCAAs. Was all ready for an NP order until the Bulk P-Slin took a hiatus.

I was getting ready to make another NP order until I noticed that Penetrate was out!! :zx11pissed:

Forgot to say thanks for this IC. Yeah, there's a heart-rate monitor on the unit; but again, for me, I'm not trying to be too technical on the cardio; as long as I'm sweating, I'm happy. I was just wondering if all the machines were set up alike, trying to give some idea of my effort. I do like the incline part, that's cool..

DIET UPDATE:
So, cals drop to 2400 today, fat is reduced as well; protein intake gets proportionately higher for awhile.

Love me some steamin' broccoli.. turkey breast, brown rice too. I started nibbling before I got to my cam -- I was hungry!

I'll man up and rummage through for the sake of knowledge.

:wizard::party::banana:

Wow these new similes are PIMP

and yes I am easily amused

Ooops, found it... Also found a nice Broccoli banana for Snags, and a poop banana for me - because who doesn't like talking about poop?

Picked me up something to help the sleep out, gotta just love this name: BuzzKill! Seriously. By Premier Nutrition; it's to take the edge off from being stimmed, looks pretty solid, and I've always been a fan of Valerian Root..
So, tonight I start the PowerFULL/BuzzKill/glutamine trifecta prior to bed. Was going to wait till cals got a bit lower till I started the glut, but wth..

Nice wheels Snag...those 22s or 24s??
