Beast's Contest Prep Thread

I was wondering the same... Also, when doing reps, do you focus on explosiveness with slow negative motions?

I focus on different things for different exercises. I don't really do many exercises explosively, just use a steady pace.

hey derek are u eating a whole med grapefruit or only half ? cause half a med gf is around 16-18 carbs so you getting double the carbs then what you measuring if eating whole

I'm eating a whole one. Guess my carb count for it is off in my program. I wondered why my carb intake was a little low :)

Hey Derek I have a couple of questions for you. First off which brand of Fuse are you using (Pinnacle, etc.)?

Second do you ever snack in the middle of the night while cutting and if so what?

I know you do cardio on an empty stomach, so do you take anything before doing so (aminos, efa's,etc.)?

And lastly do you feel one scoop of pro-complex with water and a whole wheat bagel is enough food as your first meal prior to working out? I don't have time to have two meals before working out in the morning. Thanks man.

I know you directed your questions to beast but ill answer these because they can be found in this thread and my international business class that i am in right now is super boring. FUZE is a primaforce product, and he drinks a shake when he gets up to use the bathroom. And if i were eating a meal in the morning preworkout i would go with whey, oats, and maybe some almonds or natty peanutbutter.

I don't think I posted this here yet, but this is the exact diet I have been following for the past 1.5 weeks (attached). Decreased cals a little.
So is meal#2 your preWO meal and meal#3 your PWO?

Also, since you're only eating carbs [to speak of] once every three days, do you find your workouts suffer? I mean, are your numbers going down or staying the same or what?

Thanks.

Meal #1 is preworkout (hour before), meal #2 is post workout.

I sip on Substance WPI and Xtend during my workouts and numbers are actually increasing rather than decreasing.

derek,
i have been following along and congrats on the progress so far. i am actually using your diet to cut down myself (we are of similar size) and i have a question. do you ever incorporate a refeed day or an high carb day in during the week or is this constant? i read on your fist diet you posted that you incorporate more carbs every 7th dayi think it was. i do full body workouts so it is quite taxing every session and 100-150g has made getting thru workouts tough. let me know what you think. also, would refeed/high carb days be good to use on those workout days to support anabloism?

thanks for the help.

I do a refeed every 3 days.

How many days a week do you lift?

For your during-WO drink, do you still use a scoop of Substance WPI and 10 scoops Xtend? Or have you cut down at all?

I to have tried the Grape WPI and grape Xtend mixed together...very good and very effective. It is more like a treat for me than anything else...lol I really enjoy the flavor and energy I get from it.

derek,

i lift 3 days a week and might be cutting it down to two in a few weeks. all full bodies though. i was thinking i could use those days as the refeeds (mon and thurs) and for now keep at two as well on the most taxing workout days. your thoughts?

Exactly what I was going to recommend. Do your refeeds on your weight training days. If you train 3X a week, say Mon, Wed, and Fri, do your refeeds on Monday and Friday. Whn you switch to 2X a week, do it on Mon and Thurs as you said.

Trying to post pics but it won't let me upload them, so here are some links to me 13 weeks out pics:

You still on the same diet? Or do you have a new one to show us :)

Same. I will be dropping some cals after the Arnold, so I'll have a new one to post then :)

Damn bro, not to often I say this but your legs are crazy, they almost overpower your upper half. Look forward to seeing your results. good luck

give me those legs i like your physique but on advice you seem to have alittle bit of fat around waist hip area i can see in the pictures. and i think your arms can get alittle bit bigger compared to your legs just a little then your proportions well look great.

and if you ever make the top 5 use most muscluar poses in the optional routine and your legs are a must your legs are definitely your best bodypart and do alot of legs poses and calves the judges well mark u high .

strong points you got the mass and chest shoulders arms look good arms could be another inch bigger maybe 1/2 inches

weakpoints. holding alittle water and fat around the ab area and abs could be more visible alittle bit more shredded

arms look small when compared to your legs and back is nice and thick but i dont see real striations quite yet and your upper back looks good but lower back seems to be a bit weak and has some fat down there or maybe water . hope u dont mind but regardless you do have a kickass body bro. i must admit i love your quads and calves wow give me those legs baby.

My arms have been a bitch to make grow. I got them up to 18" this winter, but they are closer to 17.5" inches now. I agree that I need to bring them up.

I got 12 more weeks of dieting, so all remaining fat shall be destroyed :duel:

Here is a pic from 2003 showing off the quads/abs.

I agree. Derek, if you keep it up, your going to have legs like Platz.

Thanks. My legs have always been better than my upper body, so I am working on balancing them up.

Things I would still like to improve:
Arms! I need to get those suckers up to 19", largest they have been is 18 and they are around 17.75 now.

Upper chest mass, working on this now and seeing improvement.

Back detail, my back is thick enough for now, but it lacks the detail that champion bodybuilders have.

Time to get to work!

keep up the great work big guy! you look great. best wishes on your competition!

A couple pics from the Arnold.
