I saw this on MSNBC tonight about Google. They said they keep every search a person has ever done, every e-mail sent, and any other application that you go through Google for. Scary as hell.

They already can enforce martial law thanks to the war powers act...... Right now they are just pretending to use the constitution. As long as we are having some kind of a war every two years(i think) then the constitution is out.
 
I think this is just a distraction....if you will.

If you read that whole thing it said that they want to look at a "target" week. They want us to think some terrorist **** "went down" and they want to find them. There hasn't been a terrorist attack on the US since Bush (and others) orchestrated 911. All this is just to make us think that they are actually looking for "terrorists".....when in reality they are the terrorists.

I fully agree on this one. Most people don't want to hear it, but the only terrorists we have to fear are in the white house. There is overwhelming evidence that says the governments take on 9/11 is bullshit. The next "terrorist" attack will come from whatever country bush needs a reason to invade next.

If the President can do whatever he wants during wartime, and he can sell the idea that we're FORMALLY at war, then martial law is redundant: that is to say, if the administration's claim that the president's war powers trump the powers of Congress, the courts and the states (and Scott McClellan said as much yesterday) is allowed to stand, a state of martial law exists already.

At this point the big question is: are free and fair elections in this country still possible? With no paper trail, no recount is possible, and the government can simply TELL US who won, and we have little option but to accept it or resist.

I hate to say this, but...... It wont get better. And we have only seen the beginning of the of it.

Nations and Governments rise and fall. Thats all that happens in history books. Our nation rose...... now hold on because we are going to have a roller coaster like fall.

We had a good run.....to bad it will soon be over. :(

It'll get better. Perhaps not in our lifetimes, but it will get better. Governments topple when they get too weak to stay up and/or when they piss off enough people to bring themselves down. The US is no different.

I agree. Eventually there will be civil unrest and the ruling elite will be displaced,hopefully without violence, if things stay on the path their on.

The problem is that a majority of people think the government is on their side.

Also, I saw on the news before Christmas, California police had booths set up outside malls. If you handed in a gun they would give you a hundred dollar gift certificate......it physically made me sick to see so many people handing in their guns. And if you think about it the only people that would hand in their guns would be stupid, yet law abiding citizens. Do you think drug dealers and various criminals are going to hand in their guns....hell no. In Switzerland every house has to have a gun and somebody trained to use it....by law. And guess what, they have the lowest home robbery rate (it may be overall crime, im not sure) in the world.

At this point our government is trying to get you to hand in your guns with incentives and say they are striving for a safer community. That is a damn lie. As I explained earlier, that will only make a more dangerous community.

The only way they will get my guns is if they pry them out of my cold lifeless hands.

Every so often, and it's not a common event, I find something OT written on this site that I agree with.:thumbsup:

What I love is those who say the citizens of this country can't defeat our military even if we were armed are often the same ones declaring there's no way our military can beat a bunch of ragtag armed arabs in the middle east, so we may as well leave. Always seemed like a double standard to me.
 
We can beat them.....by killing them all. Its they're religious beliefs and traditions they are fighting for...i side with them.
They have nothing to do with us. Let them stick with the system of government that they have had for thousands of years. If our goal is world domination then it would be reasonable to be over there(and that is our goal); otherwise just leave them the hell alone.

We could defeat our own miltary if it was a united effort.... The problem is convincing everyone to do it and organizing our efforts..... and the time is not right. I would say that is something that could definitely come about in 25 to 30 years though. (im not pulling those numbers out of a hat, there is a reason behind my estimate)
 
Oh i totally agree that the majority of congress men and whatever are good... But its to bad that they dont have have the necessary power to stop the crap thats coming. They dont have control over the big picture that we are discussing in this thread.
 
Whats worse is the people behind all of this, the ones carrying out lawsuits, trying to jail as many as possible to inflate their rep. in search of being elected again.

Anyone know its a law that if someone sends you a picture of a person age 17 or less, no matter how old they look, you are required to report it? And if you don't, you can be held for receipt of child pornography. By sent, I mean an anonymous email etc. Or if you receive a pop-up from an adult site, or download something off a torrent or p2p service that ends up being what you didn't bargain for, you can also be accounted for it.Even if its from a trojan set up on a site to download files onto your computer.

Even if records show you deleted the material seconds after you receive it, you have to report it or prepare to get shafted. I have a friend serving 2 yrs in prison for this. I saw the evidence against him, after the FBI raided his home at and drug his family through 2 years of waiting and threats to him about charging his family also, which consisted of 6, SIX, pictures that were deleted seconds after he found them.

I agree there are predators out there that need to be removed from society, but I don't see how what I described is warrented. I sure am glad the government is watching out for us, makes me feel oh so safe.

I don't think they're devious. I think they're busibodies working in a system that by nature tries to expand its power and reach. Busibodies may be good people, good natured, and have the best of intentions, but the end result is usually hell and they're too blind to see it when it happens.

I believe the government was supposed to have justified this info grab with the PATRIOT Act. That little piece of legislation that was only supposed to be used against terrorists. Might be wrong, but I doubt it. Increasingly we're being turned on by the government. The amusing part, as has been said, is that this will ievitably bite the government in the ass after a few congress critters get nailed for being kiddy porn collectors or members of questionable sites, etc.

In Internet Explorer go to Tools->Internet Options->Connections and then click the 'Lan Settings' button at the bottom. In the 'Proxy Server' groupbox, click the checkbox labeled "Use A Proxy Server For Your Lan"

Now, enter an IP address from this site:

You may need to try a few times before you find one with a good connection speed, and you'll have to update often, but its worth the effort. After you're surfing along, hit a site like this one:

And make sure it matches the IP you entered in the Proxy Box in IE. That's it, now you're surfing anonymously. Everywhere you go online, the proxy IP will be left in your wake.

Careful though, if you have an account through paypal
or your credit card site, accessing through a foreign proxy can flag your account that someone other than you is trying to break in. Its not a big deal, its cool actually that they're looking out, but you'll have to go through identity verification ("what is you SS# and mother's maiden name?") kind of stuff when you go to log back in under your normal IP address.

Also, anyone concerned with people getting ahold of evidence on your machine (which should be all of us), I'd urge you encrypt the data on your hard drive, and run a program like Evidence Eliminator regularly.

Even after a low level format, the feds can find information and piece together deleted files if they really want to. With a program like DriveCrypt or PGP, you can encrypt your whole machine - there's no way anyone would be getting into that unless they devoted a huge amount of time and effort to it.

And if you run Evidence Eliminator, if they ever do get in they'll be nothing to find:D

Thinking of it, we should probably have a sticky on internet security.

Picture this(an overly simple example)- They find out one of the terrorists researched planes on the internet. They tell us it helped the terrorists plan their attack. They use their power to decide what information should or shouldn't be allowed on the internet. Implement censorship in the interest of national security. Foot in the door.

This is NOT what our government is for OR what it is supposed to do.

This is a very cleaver distraction by Bush. Even though it makes him look bad he still gets to play the "hunting for terrorists" role in the publics eye. He is trying to keep his lies alive so the majority of america doesnt start asking questions and realize that he is the terrorist.

I am not sure the Gov. could convince

It`s not like this is the first time... Defintely time to trim the Tree of the Gov.. Get involved, email every Congressman and Senator, send them letters what ever! It does work but only when enough people push them then they think thier cushy jobs are on the line and get out and VOTE!

Look at the way PA legislature snuck in thier raise. Only after the Public went nutz did they recind it but some still refuse to repay the money. But there is a list of them and when elections come we will see...

I get a lot of comfort from reading the works of the early patriots. Thomas Paine, Ben Franklin,Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson. It is amazing to me how pertinate these writtings are 200 plus years later. This country was founded by some of the strongest willed people ever to live. They overcame the own prejiduces to form the greatest government ever known to man. The first to be by the people for the people and of the people...

..but just like the hard drive on your computer the older it gets the more likely there is to be corruption, right now it is just running slow and we can get by with a few tweeks..hopefully it won't crash.

I am not as rich and powerful as the US government but even I can snoop on what people are searching..I'll let you guys in on it..It's called " most popular searches "..I use it every day so be warned! I know what you did last summer!( or at least what most people searched for last summer) Even with cookies,browser tags and chip set IDs. It would be tough to prove you were the person at the keyboard during the alleged search. Now hard drives are another story.

The Google protest is about having an obligation to report to the government.

This would be an obligation that only companies that deal in goverment securities have been in compliance.

It would set a dangerous precident for a simple (multibillion dollar) search engine to have to report its day to day operations for governmental review

such as by asking google to give its records the goverment has detered possiable terrorists an easier time for they're plans. (goggle-watch said that most 200millions searchs a day were made outside u.s.)

i am only fearful for the future. it would only take one shot, respectivily, for this all to colapse on there laps.
