ATTENTION HARDGAINERS- you need to read this...

Wow, strong bulk :D

How much activity were you doing with all that??

well, there's the gym, and my kids. most of my day is spent running after them, and 5 months out of the year they drag me to the swimming pool for 2-3 hours every day. i kept bringing string cheese to the pool with me, which really must have drawn some odd looks :)

Wow I am 6,1 and about 4 years ago I weighed 120 lbs at the same height. I am naturally a tiny person. All my features like my wrists, ankles and hands show my true body type. I looked just as skinny as you in your 126 lb. pic. Congrats for the hard work my friend.

thanks man. for ecto's, its all about excess calories - a 3-4% increase in body fat is easy to loose when you want to loose it, and its offset by putting on muscle at a decent rate. i've got these 6" wrists, so i can emphasize with you that it is one of the sticking points - my wrists are weaker than most. but when you do put on size, it makes your arms look bigger than they are :) my mom is 63 now, 5'4" and 104 lbs and genetics are hard to overcome, but by no means impossible. just keep pushing yourself and you'll see the difference.

My advice to "hardgainers"...and I used to swear I was one (5 3/4 in wrists if we're throwing numbers around)...is to fall in love with PB n J's. That's what got me to the 175lb mark in high school (6 ft). I used to eat 2 for breakfast, 2 as soon as I got home from school, 2 sometime between dinner and bed, and 4 before bed. I still eat them on a regular basis, but now I snack on other goodies, like canned chicken in water, and dry ground beef by the pound. PBnJ's...seriously...eat them and grow.

wow! you're arms must look huge in proportion. that's awesome brotha.

OK I hate the cop out of hard gainer like I previously mentioned but I have been eating perfectly for the past month and a half and I am losing weight! I weighed in at 188 today and was about 192 last week. Here is mY diet let me know what you think

Breakfast:1 and a half cups of skim milk blended with 12 grams protein powder, whole banana, 4 or 5 good sized strawberries, 4 scoops of raw oats, a few scoops non fat yogurt, and a couple handfuls of walnuts.

Mid Morning/ prework out: 2-3 whole eggs, 5 oz of ground beef or small chicken breast, 2-3 pieces of 100% whole wheat bread

After work out: 1 ABB brand mass recovery drink

45 mins after work out: about two cups brown rice mixed with 5 oz ground beef.

I snack on all of the following while at work: 2 pieces 100% whole wheat bread, two slices turkey breast, 4 TBs peanut butter, lean pocket, mass recovery drink, V8 low sodium drink

After work before bed: 2 pieces whole wheat bread, 5 oz ground beef, 2 whole eggs, half scoop of weigh protein mixed with 2 scoops of raw oats, 3/4 cup of low fat yogurt

either your caloric needs are too low for your diet, or your alkali balance is off - too little sodium or too little potassium.

not being able to put away more food was actually what convinced me to drink half and half - easy calories, and since they're liquid calories, your body will try expending it first for energy. that's why liquid diets that still hit caloric needs will still cause you to loose weight.

i would also mention that you may be under some stress this month (possibly) which is causing weight loss.

just things to consider :) if there's anything i can do to help you, feel free to PM me anytime brotha.

The term I like is HARDER gainer meaning someone who has to do more than the average person to put on weight. 5000 calories a day is a Harder gainer not just in consuming the food but preparing it also. Unless there is a legit medical reason ie HIV etc a regular body should gain weight at above maintenance now it may be hard to determine exactly what maintenance is depending on the day, metabolism etc but the point is If your healthy there are way to gain it just may not be as easy as the next person

its funny that "hard gainers" never complain about being too fat :) one man's curse......

I like to think we got the closest body-type to being female. We have no advantages except being athletic if we choose to play the soccer/basketball type sports. We're good track stars. But it gets old bein skinny fast, especially growing up getting bullied by mesos and endos. That has lasting effects no matter who you are, probably the reason I have such a passion for bodybuilding today. But IMO it's easier for an ecto to bulk on 6000 cals for 6 months...drop 5-7 lbs of fat like it's nothing...15 minutes on a treadmill a day for a week, TOPS and you've lost all the fat you may have gained. I know metabolisms vary, but I'm an extreme ecto and I decided to eat until i actually got fat and I decided to stop when I was disgusted with myself and now I'm back at 10% or so (abs poking through) This next cycle should get me to 20 lbs total including glycogen, water, and fat, and I'll hold 15 of it guaranteed .

Anyway back to being an ecto-hardgainer...get your ass in the gym liftin hard, heavy, and short,(5-3-1 on compound movements with 2 6-10 rep sets after the single) and eat 5 cans of white chicken chunk in water, and 5 double scoop whey shakes per day plus whatever you're fed from your parents, g/f, or from your own culinary hands, and finally sleep 10 hours a night.

Hahaha i love the end bro! Your posts always crack me up! But the words you speak are true. Well not sure about the whole Girl thing tho ;)

What if I'm doing most of what has been suggested in this thread :
Heavy compounds, 4 day split, 3500-4000 clean calories a day, 40/30/30 P/F/C on average.
My lifts are finally going up in weight after plateau-ing. My muscles definitely look bigger but scale weight is all over the place from 140 to 150. In general my bodyweight is not really going up. I've been really disciplined about this diet/workout since january. I've been working out for 2 full years now, even when my workout partners bailed. I'm not complaining because I'm happy with my progress lately (strength and size) but I was expecting more weight gain.

My belly is finally used to eating this much everyday without discomfort. Should I continue like I am or throw even more food down my gullet?

I went from 127 to 164 due to hard work, dedication, lifting and eating big! exactly what that article mentioned. Thanks anabolic minds . com

Souds like you are on the right track bro. Keep in mind, the average man gains 7-10 lbs of lbm a year, so anything close to that is great. Once you feel you are plateau-ing, up the calories a bit, change up some of the foods a bit, and play with your workout. Your body is very intelligent, and will adapt to what you are currently doing. As far as being between 140 -150, some of that is water retention, which can differ from day to day, and make up for a few lbs as well.
