i changed my mind. i think thiago is going to be scared. and gets owned. mullet your the man, start writing my essays already!

I'm taking Brock over Mir, but not necessarily based on talent, I just don't like Mir and I do like Brock. High level BJJ vs High level wrestling and general beastnasity. I would normally give that nod to high level BJJ over high level wrestling, but we'll see if Brock's beastnasity will play a role.

I love how this kid says he usually takes bjj over wrestling, but in Brock's case he thinks the fact that hes a beast will make a difference. Yet Thiago is bjj and is more of a beast than GSP is, get fckd GSP u french fggot. LOL im just not a fan of the French

Your a moron! Go suck mullets wiener. Thiago may weigh in at 170, but come time for the fight hes probably around 185, and btw he walks around at 195, I asked him at the beginning of the year

i will after mullet spits gsp's balls out of his mouth. i just had a chance of thought feggit. i can agree with you about the French.

Thiagos' base is not BJJ, it's Muay Thai and has never submitted anyone (strikes don't count). BTW, Thiago is a purple belt (not sure of his lineage) and GSP is a BB under Bruno Fernandes (Gracie Barra). We all know that they both cut a significant amount of weight to make 170 and they are both ~190 come fight time. This fight comes down to who establishes their range first; if it's Thiago, then he will catch GSP. If it's GSP, then he will TKO Thiago.

I wonder what Thiago's plan will be when it comes to leg kicks (IMO his best weapon). Will he throw them freely or will he be cautious due to the fear of a TD?

How can someone hate a huge amount of people based upon a country? GSP is a canadian who speaks french, we learn it in school in canada..
Gsp is a freak were talking about fighters not what country do we like the most or least.

the way he talks bothers many people because it makes him sound cocky. they dont "really hate" the country or the people it just bothers them because he comes across like a prick like michael bisping. he is an amazing athlete and fighter. he would have gone pro doing anything. hes not the pound for pound fighter in the world but hes a ****ing stud who is in that top 5. dont take that stuff to seriously because he is most likely going to win and again and again till he gets caught or moves up weight.

I bet gsp would never mock a deaf guy like bisping did, totally different guys. I see your point, the difference is gsp is a stud and bisping is not.

Maybe being from Canada makes it different, but I just don't get that. The accent thing I get, as his accent is annoying; all Francophone accents are annoying, believe me. However, GSP is by far and away one of the most humble fighters in the sport. Very few fighters match his humbleness:studosity ratio.

Take a fking chill pill. Why are you getting all aggressive? Did one of them call your mom names or something? Holy fking ****.

As far as the fight: I still have a feeling Thiago may be able to pull this one of. And I don't know what school Thiago's BJJ is from, but I know that a purple belt would stand very little chance against a purple belt from Gracie Barra (this always cracks me up that their international name is Gracie Barra, when Barra is just a neighborhood in Rio, just funny personally) as I know from personal experience from being a purple belt trainning at Reylson Gracie (Gavea) and having black belt friends both from Reylson and from Barra. It's a HUGE gap to get those belts in those Gracie's.

Appears GSP put on about 5-6lbs lean mass for this fight, as his usual pre-fight weight is ~185.

Careful lumping all Gracie Barra affiliates together. Although GSP did get hiw brown from Renzo, that is the only direct belt he's gotten from a Gracie. Also, I train with a Gracie Barra affiliate (through Eduardo de Lima) and was belted through Travis Tooke (Carlos Gracie Jr. BB). Oddly, I have been able to tap ~50% of purple for the past 18 months (I've only been training 3 years now).

I think Thiago got his purple through Ricardo Liborio (who is now a red/black belt).

Another gem from Bisping (his douche stock is rising very quickly):

When noted exceptional striker Michael Bisping squares off against noted exceptional wrestler Dan Henderson at UFC 100 one would expect Bisping to attempt to keep the fight standing in order to work his striking. Not so says his wrestling coach.

Bisping's wrestling coach Zach Light believes that his fighter will out-wrestle two-time U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler Dan Henderson when the two men face of on June 11.

"He will take Dan Henderson down more than one time in the fight," Light told Fighter's Only. "He will, that's how he is going to win the fight. That is how I see it. When they start trading I think Mike will win the scrambles. Dan is a great scrambler but in a scramble situation I think Mike is going to come out on top every time."

Light, a former MMA fighter who went 4-8 in his MMA career, believes that he's one of the best MMA-wrestling trainers in the world and has Henderson's number.

"[Bisping] is fighting a guy that I have competed against, in the sense that Rampage fought him before," Light explained. "What I have done is basically helped him complete his strategy for the fight. Wrestling-wise I am probably one of the best MMA-wrestling trainers in the world at the moment."

Light says that Bisping is in top shape and that his wrestling has never been better.

"Right now [Bisping] is in phenomenal shape. He is getting two, maybe two and a half days of rest a week at the moment and his wrestling is better than I have ever seen it. There is no doubt in my mind that he will end this fight before the third round."

This coming from a camp of exceptional wrestlers such as Cheick Kongo.

Zach's got a point, how hard is it to out wrestle a two-time U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler.

Bisping has a chance if he subs Rampage in his place. Maybe has Rampage legally change his name to Bisping. And slips everyone acid in hopes that nobody remembers.

sorry i've taking robotussin all week...

how the fark does thiago go from being a normal looking 170pound fighter to the very large unusualy muscualr guy we seen when he faught matt hughes? obviouse he has used but how does he manage not to get caught?

might want to check out my post on page one . Maybe it still applies , maybe not but Thiago openly admits it .

I know this isn't on everyone's mind as much as the other fights but I'm kinda looking forward to the Jon Fitch/Paulo Thiago match. I like Fitch cuz he's tuff and I'm interested to see Paulo fight for the second time (2nd time for me that is). This one out of the other bigger ones (akiyama not included) has the potential to actually last more than 20 seconds. I think Paulo will gas out if it goes to the ground. At any rate I hope he lasts long enough for Fitch to put a beatin on 'em.

and i was speaking for the idiot about the canada thing haha. but i do agree that he sounds annoying and that he can pretty much say whatever he wants hes stud.

Heres a quick quote for you guys..."Hes the type of guy that when you step into the octagon with him, your not only afraid to lose, your afraid to get hurt" GSP about Thiago Alves

keep blowing mulletsoldier

Seriously, what the ****?

You have yet to post something that wasnt a direct hit on someone or in a tone extremelly aggressive. What are you trying to pull? Just to be a random douche? Is that your ultimate plan?

Why can't you just participate like everyone else, share opinions and not be a complete ahole about it?

Won't this be great when we can say... hey what happened to Thiago? Is he ever gonna fight again? =))

haha damn! they think up good plans for sure. who all is there?

Spenser fisher, nate mar, jardine, rashad evans, diego sanchez, and joe stevenson, and gsp? who else?

Diego left because he felt there would not be enough room at the Jackson camp for both him and GSP.

There's a video on the UFC website where Dan Henderson says if all he did was do cardio for preparation he'd still win this fight.

oh hmm i was not aware he left for some reason. where is he now? coconut creek? oh you mean Diego didnt wanna suck gsp's wiener like jardine does to rashad? haha im just playing i know its respect.

He felt shunted by GSP's [permanent] admission into Jackson's camp. From what I understand, Diego saw it as a slight against his ability; obviously, that was not the case. I think it was a classic case of the most horrible disease imaginable: littlebitchitis.

Georges is going to crush Thiago.

You're not only a small guy, but you're an idiot. In the video gsp's trainer said georges nervous going into the fight. He will not crush Thiago, it will be a great fight between two highly talented competitors. The Pitbull will win by knockout :sgrin:

Thank-you for your commentary, Stone Cold. If you are as flabby as the hick in your avatar, which you probably are, I'm sure you have no reason to be opening your food-flap.

As a Flyers fan I don't expect you to be Einstein, but basic skills are great. Nothing is said in the video, which is why it's funny to say, "George is going to crush Thiago" after. It's called irony. Now wait for your turn until next time, Sling Blade. "Georges trainer said georges nervous...". Right...

:D

Being serious, though, it has the possibility to be Fight of the Night, or much less competitive than people assume. I re-watched Koschek/Thiago, and Kos was fairing decently on his feet - much better than I thought the first time I watched it. His left jab was keeping Thiago at bay for the most part, and he was really only in trouble in the first and third; in fact, he almost caught Thiago several times. Like Rodja said, I think GSP's switch-kick and jab will keep Thiago out of knockout range. Being a much quicker striker than Kos, with more diversity in his strike game, he should be fine there. (Though, I doubt he will play with fire too much.)

IMO, Thiago catching GSP with a knee/punch while GSP is trying an explosive shoot is unlikely: knowing Thiago's power, GSP will most likely dirty-box Thiago on the cage and try to out-Grecco him for early TDs. As in BJ/GSP II, I think Georges' strategy will be to outpoint Thiago on the feet early to frustrate him, in combination with a high amount of clinch work to sap his energy. Only after the second round - if it goes that far - would I expect to see GSP try open-cage TDs. As well, expect GSP to try and time Thiago's leg-kicks for a TD, something Kos did not try.

Thiago's TDD is greatly improved but, once on the ground, wrestling is his bane. A strong wrestler like Fitch or GSP can easily control Thiago's positioning once he is down, and this largely negates his power and purple belt in BJJ; he is simply not skilled enough of a BJJ-player to overcome elite-level wrestling.

When it all boils down, IMO, this is not GSP's toughest opponent. As an elite wrestler with crisp stand-up and a chin of steel, I think Fitch was GSP's toughest yet; and, despite the lopsidedness of the victory, that was certainly GSP's toughest fight. What you can say, however, is that Thiago is GSP's most dangerous opponent; however, this label only applies is Thiago is allowed to work from within his comfort range, which will not happen.

I think GSP will surprise Thiago by outpointing him on the feet, much like BJ/GSP II, and proceed to smother and overwhelm him with wrestling. Thiago's nickname fits because he is tenacious, however; he has never faced the calibre of fighter GSP is. In the end, I think GSP's wrestling, athleticism and speed will be too much for Thiago to overcome, and GSP will win via UD or TKO (GnP).

And that's the truth, 'cause the Mullet said so.
