Age 40 and over supplements.

So what's everyone's taking at this age? So I just turned 40 this yr and i'm curious what's everyone taking for their health and fitness in general?

Cissus…fish oil…glucosamine….basically all the stuff to keep the joints healthy…

Voltaren, advil, Meloxicam.

Tadalafil doesn’t hurt either lol

Currently taking Myovite by Myogenix. It's a pretty well rounded multi with a lot of added benefits. Comes in a pill pack. The only con in my opinion is having to take down all the pills.

I’d say you could not go wrong with SNS Cardiovascular Support!
I turned 50 this year. Last year and a half I've been taking that religiously. It's good insurance, plus has many other benefits. One month per year I switch to SNS Kidney Support XT for shits and giggles. I also take:

Always -
LE 2 A Day Multi (I take 1)
1.5gr EPA/DHA
EGCG
Curcumin
4gr Chlorella
1gr Niacinamide (for precancerous skin stuff)
Swanson Vision Support

Sometimes -
test boosters (currently Alpha Gel)
Performance (currently PA XT)
Joint (when injured from BJJ, currently Joint Support XT)

55

Unbiqinol
Cissus xt
Joint support xt
Homocysteine resist by LE
B complex
Liver support xt
Fish oil
Nattokinase
Taurine
Mag
Liposomal vit d with k2
Citrulline

Low dose statin with ezetimibe

lisinopril 10 mg

Going to really depend on individual needs and goals, I’m going to highlight a couple areas, but I’m sure others will delve into different recommendations for health, longevity, joint health, hormones, etc. Generally things I’d keep in mind as we age (I’m not quite at 40 yet myself):

Effects of oxidative stress and/or inflammation tends to change and while younger individuals may see potential training adaptation decreases with too many/poorly timed anti oxidants these things may actually increase response in older individuals. So taking or increasing dosages of some of these may be helpful (many of these are still beneficial at all ages just may have increased use case as we age):

Curcumin
Palmitoylethanolamide
Omega-3/EPA/DHA
Tea extracts
Various adaptogens (broad otherwise this list could be really long)
Flavonoids and Polyphenols (not limited to Quercetin, Apigenin, Resveratrol, Epicatechin, broader extracts like Tart Cherry, Pomegranate, Grape, etc.)

I’m trying to just be kind of vague/broad and focus on things that may help training adaptations, but keep in mind many of these may have more effect on endurance than strength (but even that may broadly help if it isn’t your goal and for some that may be the actual goal in itself).

We also tend to have a lesser “reaction” to training and the stimulus may be “dampened” so things that boost our response to training (of which many of the above may also help) is important to keep in mind with things like slightly more importance on protein intake/timing/quality. Ingredients that may boost this:

Leucine (threshold may be higher so may need to eat a little more protein to offset or make sure leucine content is high enough)/ Leucine Metabolites
Pepti-strong

Personally (depending on training) something like Recovery Fix, Pepti-Plex, and Curcumin I find really keeps things on track hitting a lot of these things and being highly stackable with other things depending on goals.

Been taking handfuls of pills since my early 20’s. Use to it now. That’s not even including any gear, transdermals, or natty anabolics such as anabolic effect, bmp, alpha one, etc… that I’ll take periodically throughout the year.

Same here. I just try and stay hydrated and the number of pills don't worry me at all.

A little more strength and it allows me to put up my calories and gain some weight over the winter, but not get too much bodyfat. It's BLR's bulker. The best effect, for me, is better and deeper sleep for me. I take it from about mid November until the end of February. I am in Canada and sleep is always comprimised for me this time of year and moreso as I get older and still keep lifting.

any protein or creatine?
Well of course :) I get 50 of my daily 200ish grams of protein from a mix of plant and whey isolate. Im on creatine October through April. I do more cardio during the summer and dont like to carry the extra water weight.

I think a glucose disposal agent would be effective for those occasions and Defuse by evomuse would be a great thing to have in hand for holiday season / holidays.

Anyone want to highlight what they’ve added as they’ve aged or what maybe they feel has been more valuable? Lots of good lists, but many don’t seem much different from what someone younger might take, but maybe that is something significant in and of itself.

In no specific order

Oral pill: V-D3, B-complex, ubiquinol, fish oil, NAC, red yeast rice, magnesium, 5htp and a multi V

Oral liquid: telmasartan 40mg, tadalifil 7.5mg, (carderine rotated in and out occasionally)

Trt- 150mg per week but I'm running 250/week currently.

Injectable peptides: alternating mots-c, nad + every couple weeks.

Injectable L-carnatine and choline

Edit: creatine up to 20gm a day

have you tried defuse? i'm looking at the ingredients and i'm not so familiar with it. usually when i think of gda it would have the usual berberine, chromium, banaba extract and gymnema

don't take advil and meloxicam together, bad news for your kidneys, heart ect. My doc at the time left me 3 notes about not using them togter and a quick Google brings up this

I'm always worried about kidneys so that's my biggest fear personally

At 57 I have always had problems getting good sleep and being bombed from working out does not help. I think Magnesium before bed has probably had the most dramatic affect at keeping me still making small strength gains, on the main lifts, from year to year. Not to mention everything else a better sleep allows for in one’s life. If I could only pick two supplements, they would creatine hcl and magnesium.

Defuse is not a GDA. It is designed to minimize fat storage. I use it when I go South in the winter and I am taking allot of calories and not working out. Great around Xmas when you got a bunch of great meals over a few days etc. I don’t use it otherwise. I just dave it for special extended occasions. Works very well imo to minimize bodyfat accumulation. Here is the write up:

Thanks bro! I know not to!

It’s a fear for me as well….

Has to be DHEA, Pregnenolone, Progesterone. I know what you mean, in that all those that aren’t actual hormones are taken by all ages.

Every day:
  • Energy drink or pre-workout
  • Agmatine
  • Cissus
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Glucomannan fiber
  • Xtend BCAA
  • Additional EAA or BCAA product
  • Comprehensive multivitamin
  • Airborne or vitamin C tablet
  • Chromium before meal
A lot of days:
  • Creatine
  • Yohimbine
  • Paradoxine

That's a great point! For me the swap from coq10 to ubiquinol I made because as we get older we don't make the conversion as well so ubiquinol is more available. The addition of red yeast rice because of cholesterol (kinda precautionary when I'm eating crappy or on cycle) heart and brain health are my main new focus over what's gonna get me jacked. The combination of ubiquinol and carnatine is amazing for the heart and both help with cognitive function. That's also why I'm experimenting with the mots and nad.
I put the nac back in for multiple reasons but a few are that it's a anti oxident and anti inflammatory, it has some minor positive effects on on the lungs and it's good for the liver and kidneys. (I'm currently expanding on my kidney health stuff) many of the things I mentioned above have positive effect on the kidneys.

As a side note, when I take a shot of 2.5mg nad+, 250mg injectable carn and 25mg injectable choline all together I feel a kinda flush and then after about 15min I feel just better all around. It's a bit weird, I'm doing that combination 4x week and on the other days I use a little NAD nasal spray with 2000mg oral carn and oral choline and while it doesn't cause the same dramatic effect, I definitely feel it helps maintain that feeling. It's a mental effect more then physical. I've also been thinking of boosting my creatine dose to the brain health doses which seem to be about 25gm/day. There's studies that a big dose of creatine has quick improvements to cognitive function in people and specifically well in people who are sleep deprived 🙋‍♂️. Another thing I've noticed is since I started up that combination above, and it's very pronounced...... it's hard to get stoned lol. (I grow pot, 5 or 6 strains and i very much know what each does to me) and Since starting this I noticed I do not get stoned. I just get a very mild functional calm effect, slightly high but definitely not stoned or impaired. That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. But i've been keeping note of it and it's definitely a real effect Unless there's something else I Haven't accounted for

if i have body fat that has accumalated already would it still help get rid of it?

I’ve decided to give PeptiStrong a whirl! Seems like for older dudes north of 40 it would be great!

Pepti-Plex has helped me a lot. I feel better on it in general, and its helped a lot with muscle damage and injuries. I can tell a very noticeable difference in the muscle damage in my leg from my accident, and its the first time in over 10 years I'm 99% pain free from the partial tear in my bicep.

Great gym results too + the research on helping stave off muscle loss with age.

PeptiStrong itself is a great ingredient, but I think it matters a lot what you pair it up with, and with Pepti-Plex we were going for a natural anabolic muscle builder that was also an anti-aging & longevity product.

I wanted to give PeptiPlex a shot, and will in the future. I just wanted to see what the solo-ingredient was like. The feedback on PeptiPlex is impressive!

I’ve got a 12 month Pepti-plex review typed up, just been too lazy to post (or not sure if I want to keep any pictures and fighting the urge to make it longer with specific numbers, etc). Love the stuff.
