1st Cycle: Good enough? PCT?

That's fine to disagree with medical research, proven by people with PhD's. Seeing as neither of you have one, I won't be taking my nutrition advice from self proclaimed people. While you two have a TON of knowledge in your specific areas involving anabolics, neither of you have degrees in dietetics and nutrition.

There was a study one time proving eggs cause high cholesterol. Then there was another saying they reduced cholesterol. Go figure.

Well, I'll be waiting for your clean eating research. Good luck finding it.

I'll be waiting to hear any highly touted nutrition coach tell his client that food choices don't matter as long add they hit their macros.

When it comes to my diet I know the difference between good and bad. results might be able to come from both types of eating but they do really affect they way you feel, physically and mentally.

neither of you have degrees in dietetics and nutrition.
you sure about that?
careful when you speak on what you don't know
I'll continue listening to research and proven studies.
there are no "proven" studies in the land of bodycomp
period

it's called reality, real-world, time and again, over and over, duplicable results

as I said tho, you can believe what you want, and roll how you want to roll..it matters not to me
but let's keep the angst down, no need for a train smash here

I lost track, is butter or margarine better for you this week, according to the latest study?
dunno the latest flavor-of-the-week study, but the answer has always been: butter!

In all seriousness here, take an example of a guy bulking: Maintenace @ 2800, decides to shoot for 3000 calories. After 2300 calories, he's hit his fiber, as well as all of his micros. He then decides to eat poptarts to meet the rest of his macros, instead of "clean" food. Do you think this is detrimental / harming vs "clean" food?

Also, what is your definition of "clean" food? I'm not looking to "argue" so to speak, as much as have a discussion.

you sure about that?
careful when you speak on what you don't know

Do you?

first of all: I don't know how you are looking at things here, it is really unfathomable
nobody in the know, looks at things in this fashion...has all of his "micros" in in 2300cals? what does that mean?
there is no "goal" for micros, they come from each and every good decision in food choices, that you make
broccoli, sweet potato, oats, all these things are loaded with good micronutrients
conversely, corn/pop tarts are examples of essentially empty foods, things that either are already sugar going in, or get turned to sugar in the digestion process ... this is not how one creates a solid, lean physique or bodycomp

I think you need to learn more about nutrition before you start telling others that their approach is wrong

So do you think that more = better? Do you also recommend people on Atkins and Paleo? Those seem to be very clean.

But thanks for the proof that you DO NOT in fact have a degree. So in that case, why would I take any nutritional advice from self proclaimed? If you get results with what you do, go for it. Don't instantly shoot down other methods that do in fact work, just because you don't think so.

atkins wasn't a bad philosophy, at all..very useable, and wayyy ahead of his time
the biggest problem within that method was, he never distinguished between good fats and bad, just basically said eat higher fat
paleo is a very nice approach, i like the premise of that as well

I guess you could take your nutritional advice from

lqtm
how old are you bud?

Yeaaaaah....looks like you got very smart in the last two days....

Appreciate it man, looks like I'll make that my store. Also, how should my training differ? The program I will be running at the time is already fairly high in volume; I was thinking of just going harder and hitting extra reps as I feel (nothing new). Are there specific rules to follow?

Do macros change at all? I see some guys here with their protein way too high for a natty.. are their different rules?

Is the surplus still the same? Or is that higher as well.. Not looking to under eat here.

Appreciate the advice. I'll be starting my cycle in May. Anything else to know?

Yep......

My lack of PH knowledge clearly has a direct correlation to my overall knowledge.. That's good to know. Glad you nutritionists could educate me in my false ways! Guess no more poptarts or cereal for me if I want to be as successful as you two.. Oh wait

This is just an honest question, not meant to sound ignorant by any means, but what is your definition of successful? And successful in what?

i think he equates a piece of paper (ie degree) with success
a lot of ppl can graduate with a degree in something, and not be successful..or, still not be too smart
piece of paper means nothing
a lot of ppl I've known, who went to school, graduated -- and are now working factory jobs...what good did a degree do for them?
looks good on a wall i guess

why are you being so childish?
you weigh 165, obviously don't know what you are talking about regarding nutrition (as plain to see thru your posts), and are seeking advice from others in how to do things..
why is it now, then, that you think you have all the answers, and feel you are ready to try to school ppl?

you have much, much to learn
we are here to help
if you want to continue to be petulant, please go do so elsewhere
we simply do not need it in our forums

This was fun to read.

I wouldn't take nutrition advice from the guy who is 165lbs @ 5'9".

I would, however, take nutrition advice from a guy with Snags competition history and physique.

Bodybuilding is not about PhD's.

#hijack On a side note though, snags, "clean" eating vs "dirty" eating isn't going to affect muscle gains. That's surplus vs deficit.

I'm late but not another one of these guys?!?!.

Fwiw I've experimented with this fad called IIFYM myself. The truth is by adding in "empty" foods to fit macros I didn't see nearly the results as I did eating more micronutrient rich foods. I don't need a study to tell me that. If I waited for a damn study to come out supporting what I was doing (that was working) I'd be wasting my time.

There are indeed certain people who are genetically gifted and can eat cereal and shyt and still look diced, these people are few and far between. This sport is about health yeah? Last time I checked, sugary cereals and pop tarts do not contribute positively to ones health or physique goals.

Like stated above, bbing isnt about studies, it's about trial and error and sticking with what has proven to work. Each physique and metabolism is different. Enjoy eating your cereal and pop tarts while busting that 170lb barrier champ.

Montego1 and SnagencyV2.0 I've been trolling through AM for months reading articles here and there and I just wanted to thank both of you for your help. I've read many of your guys posts and you helped me decide what cycle was going to be my first. Went with 1-alpha doesed @ 4 a day for 4 weeks and have had some pretty bad ass results. I had been out of the gym for years up until about 15 weeks ago. This last four weeks was what I needed to remember what its like to be a bad ass! I truly wasn't expecting much just because of how mild I read it was.
"Before Andro and now"
Deadlift 405lb 495lb
Squat 495lb 585lb
Bench 280lb 315lb
plus I still have one week left!
I haven't maxed out on bench yet but Monday after my normal bench work out I put 315 on there thinking I'd try it and i'll be Damn I busted out 3 of em. Thanks again guys for all the great information and advice.

Well thanks Snag! At first I thought it was the placebo effect cause I have been truly busting my ass. But after that bench Monday I'm a believer. I haven't flat benched since High School because of a shoulder injury and im 36 years old. I could have probably had a better diet but I've just been trying to keep it fun and not make it a job so I dont start finding excuses not to go to the gym. But the great thing about all those lifts is its the last set after my regular workout. I might set an actuall max out day the end of next week. I just haven't "maxed out" out on anything because I didn't want to be disappointed with myself. Because thats what has always hendered me before...what 21 year old Short could do. But I really needed this, has kinda opened my eyes kicked my ass in gear and really made me look forward to the future pretty excited for my next run...after PCT and correct time off.

I greatly appreciate it Montego...been pretty pumped this last week cause I totally wasn't expecting any kind of increase like that. Thats why I had been thinking placebo. My only guess is I must have just been sandbaging before and this just gave me the edge I needed. I will most definitely be taking you up on that offer here in the very near future on more info because I've been reading for month's and month's about this stuff (PH's) and there is so much contradicting information. Would much rather just ask someone that has dabbled themselves cause I really dont want to screw myself up.
