I do not understand this protein - casein, whey, combo?

I am not sure as to whether or not I'm allowed to post links, so I'll cut and paste the ingredients here. My question is - is this a casein protein? Is this suitable for taking at bedtime? I simply have no idea - they're confusing me with the combination of egg, whey, and casein thing.

Isolated casein peptides, instantized egg albumen, glutamine peptides. Natural and artificial flavors. Cocoa, guar gum. Sucralose, acesulfame potassium.

On one hand, I'm pleased - since, as I understand it, recent research suggests that combining hydrolyzed whey and casein is the optimal protein mix. On the other hand, I have no idea what's going on with these ingredients.

Can anyone shed some light?

The reason for whey, egg, and casein is for their various digestion times. Whey digests quickly, casein digests slowly, and egg is considered to be in the middle. By doing this, you maintain positive nitrogen levels for extended periods of time. Most use these as part of an MRP during the day and such.

Does that imply that it's unsuitable for a bedtime shake? I hate to sound anal about these things, but I'm simply unsure.

IMO, a blend is the best all-time protein. The only time I would get something else (isolate alone) would be post workout.

Without trying to pimp, Sustain is a good blend similar without the eggwhite.. Also a good nighttime protein..

it does say "Isolated casein peptides"

Maybe it means just that, growth factors which can only be isolated from casein protein.

i dunno

I am too confused about these 2 proteins. I am a female trying to build muscle mass. I work at Viatmin world and get this question all the time. Can somebody help me out and goto the vitaminworld.com site and look at our ultra premium whey and explain what type of protein this is. SLow or fast? It is made by Precision Engineered. I want to buy this product ut I am not sure about it. Id id however buy the syntha ^ and Dessert by BSN. Another question of mine is can protein be "killed if cooked for a long period of time? I put int in oatmeal daily.

What protein brand is this or product name , I dont think its wrong to just post a brand name. Usaully the protein type listed first has the highest content in the blend.

So it could go like this

whey 70%
casein 20%
egg 10%

or more balanced like

whey 40%
casein 35%
egg 25%

Im not saying its either of these, but sometimes the brand name could help.

I personally and many others I know throw protein in their porridge all the time; I don't have any links but I don't remember hearing anything bad about denaturing the protein. Just throw it in afterwards before you eat it.

Edit: Link to a John Berardi article where he recommends it, so it's gotta be good! Invalid Link Removed
Also note "Also, it's important that you don't try to make protein pudding with the pudding that needs to be cooked; cooking will denature the protein." in the pudding recipe. So just add the powder in afterwards and everything will be peachy

Cooked protein

Thanks for the info. I feel a lot better now. I do make my pudding, but I don't cook it.

Thanks for all of the info on oatmeal and protein.

:welcome: to the board.

Put the protien in after as Steveoph said, heat will change it slightly but nothing to worry about IMO.

I agree with you pacak514, Synta 6 is so good (the strawberry)! I need to get more

syntha 6

Did you try the Mocchaccino?
