So called this morning and they were able to get me 8 yards out this morning. So very glad to have this poured and sealed up now. I did install more uprights just for a little more anchor points for when I pour the top slab. Also raked tamped the top to have a very rough surface finish to allow the top slab to bind even more.

Ideally this would have been one monolithic pour but I just don’t have the manpower or the capacity to be able to do this in a single pour. So footing is in. So now I will form up half of the top slab. From there I will need to see if I can do it in half and do 2 pours or if I will need to do 4 pours to make it manageable.

I am going to be renting a power screed for the top slab so that will help. As far as finishing I will just mag float and then I have a 4’ finish trowel on extensions. I plan on covering the slab down the road so I will not need a fully finished show quality finish on it.

It’s hard to tell in the pictures but the concrete is 5-6 inches lower than the top of finish grade. I will do 1-1/8 foam under all the top slab. Then I will have 1/2 pex line ran in place for all the water.

Well let me tell you my timing is so perfect it’s hard to match. Let’s decide to build a house when prices on everything are running to all time high

dude that looks so good. a lot of what you're doing here is so far beyond my experience especially with the plumbing. I would have to have a lot of sit and stare time as I think things through lol. But watching your build has really been making my mind think a LOT about how I could miniaturize some of this for the barn I want to build. we can go up to 600sq ft for an ag building out here without permits. so I keep thinking like 20 x 30 or even just 15 x 30 cause that would give me like 3 10x10 stalls and a nice 5ft isleway. put in some forms like you're doing, then use my logs I've been cutting down, but I'd be able to keep them off the ground to make them last a bit longer.

Oh for sure man I have been drawing out and planning in my head for this at least a year now. If you can build it yourself definitely cost savings for sure!

same. like small amounts of it seem feasible to me, but the size of this project is so far beyond anything I have ever done. its inspirational but daunting. I'm like trying to stack up some trees I cut down to hold some chickens and he's out here building a legit house for real humans to survive in lol

same. like small amounts of it seem feasible to me, but the size of this project is so far beyond anything I have ever done. its inspirational but daunting. I'm like trying to stack up some trees I cut down to hold some chickens and he's out here building a legit house for real humans to survive in lol

Hard to put a real number to it but I’d say in the end yes. Just in the dirt work that easily would have been 4-8 grand, plumbing 1500-2000, form work 1500-2000, pour the actual finished slab probably 6-10k. Just all guesses but in the wheel house of stuff I see out in the world.

Things will slow down when I get the building up. I’ll get the camper inside and get power and water. Then it will be a bit of rebuilding savings. And working on framing out/insulating the inside. The beauty is it will be big enough to allow the camper to stay inside and have room to work the exterior.

This is an out of pocket build, so grand plan when I’m done it’s all paid off. So it will definitely be a slower process but eh I’m ok with that.

I think those numbers would each be 4x here. I had an electrician quote me $8-10k to put power in my shed which is like 75ft from my house, but only if I did ALL of the trenching so all he had to do was run the copper and install the outlets.

I've been honestly talking about this with my boy a lot lately who is only 17 but I'm watching these gen Z kids talk about how they can't afford anything. I told my boy just get an acre of land and park a trailer on it or a crappy camper and do a paycheck build one piece at a time. nobody is going to care if you're a hillbilly in a trailer at age 20 building a microfarm but all the sudden you're 30 and your house is built and paid off.

when I was 17-18 I carried around these fliers for property in eastern WA. you could get 20 acres with an A Frame cabin for $20k. those go for $500k-1m now. when I was 17-18 I wanted one so bad but it didn't seem plausible and I didn't know how to buy land.

Hows this for coincidence... 20 years later I marry my wife. My daughters best friend? her dad was the developer who (with his father) bought up like 500 acres or more, subdivided into 5/10/20acre lots and was selling those lots with cabin options lol.
