it's almost over, and now that the divorce is finalized you have 3 1/2 months to ensure that 2024 goes out with a bang2024 can suck it
Man... first allergic reaction to a bee sting, while i was in bed, got me in the hospital, divorce got finalized, got the house in my name, lots of metal shows (saw Nails and 200 Stab Wounds last night), eating poorly, skinny guy clothes fit again, and my Moms situation got more strange. 2024 can suck it, but life is getting back on track. Again![]()

What makes your post even funnier is that the like button appears to be back in some threads but not this one yet lol
lol looks like only some people are seeing the buttons, I see that you reacted in the Mail thread but I do not have reactions there lol

Nice, I should pick up some stress & anxiety support from Steve too. Too much to purchase these days!Got in there today, running a 4 week intro "cycle" if you want to call it that, still 531 since it's easy and I respond well to it. Currently weighing 192, officially a 30lb loss this year, but I'm actually feeling good in my physique... If I weren't a maniac in regards to focusing on strength, I'd consider just shredding and stick under 200. At this point, my only goal to finish out this year is to maintain a consistent plan and I'd imagine I could get MOST of my strength back, depending on how much eating I do and if I end up caring about weight.
Supplementation, I have a pretty solid SNS anabolic/strength stack, and multiple months of it laying around. I've been sticking to anti stress/anxiety supps and cognitive function, and it's been amazing. If I stay true to myself the next 2 weeks, I will start AE+Axt and a few others to have them ready and loaded in the body for getting back into a cycle.
Yeah I'm in the middle of the **** near Banner Elk. My area did well, we actually got power back Saturday, and just got a single bar of 4G, setup mobile hotspot with that to attempt to catch up with the world. I've blown 2 tires in my truck doing welfare checks, and basically confined to the two towns near me. Thankfully, I was well stocked on food in the first place, and I miraculously made it to my brewery and pilfered the kitchen freezers there to fill up my chest freezer (also cases of oktoberfest), everything there will be a loss. Roads are gone, bodies are appearing, today they started helicopter medevacs for people that can't be driven/hiked to. It's insanity. Tennessee closed their border, which I'm 1 minute from, because of a squabble between state police... petty assholes. Wartime Iraq looked better than this part of the state does today. Thankfully my main job is understanding and I'm still being paid, and that no one who works for the brewery requires it as income, the taproom will be a total gut and reno job, the brewhouse itself shouldn't be too bad, there's about 2" of mud everywhere that absolutely reeks, and is already covered in mold.Hey bud I know you’re out that North Carolina way, hoping all is well with all the flooding out your way![]()

Well actually...Next your going to say space lasers don’t existlmao
God bless you brother for helping your neighbors as best you can….that’s what it’s all about. And glad you guys are getting some help. Not touching on the politics, but the response here has been wonderful despite a lot of grifting. My neighbors were attempting to tell me FEMA and the NG weren't even here, as a chinook flew over and I'd spent time helping the NG pass out supplies... My small community is mostly whole, but a block away is not expecting water to be back on for months. Not weeks, months. I'm housing a friend with no utilities and 3 volunteers helping out in the area. Don't let the BS keep you down, the news will leave this area for the next disaster, but the resources we have to continue rebuilding aren't going anywhere.
People were blocked by car because our roads are literally crumbling and falling away from the amount of traffic/response to this disaster and I support it. Our infrastructure is not in place for unnecessary traffic, I have pictures of people I've helped from cars that fell with the road, none of those people are from here. A major road to the next town over collapsed again yesterday morning, the detour turning a 12min drive to 1hr 15min with the traffic we have and major reconstruction occurring.
Civilian flights have not been actually blocked, but the air traffic up here is insane, two planes lightly clipped each other already. The FAA is in charge of everything up here and is letting whomever through, granted they have made appropriate communications. How that information gets disseminated is another story, and a game of telephone.
Lightly political - Yeah FEMA is looking like it's going to run out of money quickly this year. It's not wholly the current scapegoats causing, although they aren't guilt free.
Wholly different note, I'm looking to build a home gym since A. I can't get to the gym quite literally and physically, and B. I just need it. I'm looking for an opinion on if I'm stupid for wanting to put it in the room I'm considering, I'll post up some pictures of the supporting structures shortly.
A 2x8 @16-inches OC spacing as a floor joist will span up to 12'-3", without bowing, based on a 40 psf floor weight (Per US Code), so your friend is probably right. You could put your spacing closer, and may be alright…..like spacing at 12” I believe jumps up to like 13’6”, so if you’re limited on resources, but if you have enough of the 15’ floor joist, you could probably be alright at 12” spacing if you’re not putting too much weight on floor.Any opinion on this? 2x8's, 15' across, flooring is 3/4", and I'd be building a platform for everything. Wasn't concerned about it until a friend planted a seed of doubt in my ear about bowing the supports (and needing new insulation (100 year old house))

Thank you! It does make sense. I had planned to do a plywood and rubber mat platform on top of it all do help displace weight as well. No intentions of dropping weights, but it'll inevitably occur at some point.God bless you brother for helping your neighbors as best you can….that’s what it’s all about. I can’t comment on the strength of the architecture, but what I did during the pandemic was lay down stallmat in the living room of our little apartment, set my rogue yoke atop it; and benched & squat out of that. We were on the bottom floor and likely a poured foundation though. Plus some chin-ups and bands choked to it for accessories, besides barbell stuff. And we would lay Titan foam drop pads on the floor over the stallmat for things like barbell rows and in case we had to bail in an emergency (couldn’t get spotter arms at the time).Thank you! In the future you could always add braces between the floor joists, called joist bridging, which strengthens and stiffens the joists, when you know you’re about to add more weight on the floor.Thank you! Outside is technically an option on my front porch, I mean here in the Appalachians porch couches are as common as vehicles as yard artI can’t comment on the strength of the architecture, but what I did during the pandemic was lay down stallmat in the living room of our little apartment, set my rogue yoke atop it; and benched & squat out of that. For deadlifts and sandbag work, we would drag a stallmat out the sliding door to the back patio, then stand on and pull off blocks, controlling the negative.
Usually a power rack and barbell work is going to be fine, provided there’s a platform with rubber in it to help disperse the weight and you’re not really exceeding 4xxlbs of barbell weight. I can’t say what 600 type stuff would have done; I went to real gyms for peaking sessions. But all my training was done with 450lbs max.
You could also do a rack outside somewhere, if the garage isn’t viable.
Damn, that's what those are called! I knew they existed, I'll look into that too.In the future you could always add braces between the floor joists, called joist bridging, which strengthens and stiffens the joists, when you know you’re about to add more weight on the floor.

Keep them coming! I'd reeeeeally like to utilize the space in the basement, but I'm 5'11" ish, and it gets cold af here in the winter. I do roll my rower out there, have a TRX anchor, and multiple tires and sledges. Come to think of it... I've been awfully stagnant since the storm...Sounds like if you’re under 6’ tall you could just put a combo rack or a limited height power rack in the basement and do all your squatting, pulling, and benching/seated pressing down in the dungeon. Could probably hang a chin-up bar pretty easily, although I’m not sure you’d be able to add weight easily with your legs crossed if you needed (maybe a weight vest for that). Then you could keep some stuff upstairs or outside for overhead work - could just be a barbell and some bumpers.
Just ideas; it’s whatever you think you’ll enjoy the most! I suspect having everything outdoors will not be ideal much of the time, while if it’s indoors it will get used more routinely.
I'm the same way with sweating, I don't do layers well for physically activity. Long term goal at this house is an out building, but I had been toying around with a lean-to type thing off the back of the house, something i can convert into a bbq/smoke shack when I can.You could do a little strongman shed/lean-to somewhere outside to keep that kind of stuff if the garage is occupied, and do that in the back yard or driveway.
And everything else in the basement. Cold AF down there is still warmer than outside, so not sure how cold you’re talking about it getting. Generally, I am not a fan of sub-50*. The layers I need to wear to stay warm enough to protect from pulling muscles in the cold also make me sweat enough that it can be extra fatiguing.
If you do build a lean to outside, for winter work you can find at some stores or online I can’t remember the name I call them concrete blankets, basically 2 tarps with insulation in between. But you can hang them up and close of your space and do an electric heater it will heat up quick and hold heat nicely. I have these in my dads post shop that’s un insulated, we have them on a cable and winter time if you want to work on something we pull them around and turn heat on for a bit. Kinda janky but it works for the little times it’s really needed.I'm the same way with sweating, I don't do layers well for physically activity. That gives me the excuse to buy the forced air propane heater I've always wanted tooIf you do build a lean to outside, for winter work you can find at some stores or online I can’t remember the name I call them concrete blankets, basically 2 tarps with insulation in between. I had one of those before when I lived up north. They work so damn good. Didnt need it when I lived southThat gives me the excuse to buy the forced air propane heater I've always wanted too

I definitely agree with you, and have been eyeballing some Titan racks and gear. I'm still leaning towards the spare bedroom, I have a buddy coming over to volunteer in the disaster here who is an ex-GC gone engineer, going to propose what gphagan1 was saying and see if I can't get an in person opinion. THEN I'll commit to the basement lol. it has a weird tiny garage door I can step out to knock out log/OHP too, maybe make/buy some sort of rack for the side of the house right there that can handle the weather.I am with @Hyde here, the basement gym is more likely to be used regularly during inclement weather, rain, snow, very cold snaps, very hot snaps. Just any extremes. Also you can do seated overhead pressing, and just about anything else you need for overhead. Titan has a 6 foot cable tower you could do a lot of pulling movements on, then pull ups via a bar in the rafters. Lots of options there and then any of the suggestions for a lean to type of situation for other items you can't seem to address in the basement sound good but you could definitely work your entire body in the basement alone with some creativity.
