Classic Kleen - The Road To Competition Fall 2024

Your conditionining is on fire I am sure he will have some good info to help put your mind at east, you're looking fantastic. Have you let him know about the nervousness from the lack of info? Maybe its important to let him know that and the previous show you mentioned where you felt coach left you overly depleted if I remember right, might help coach to better communicate if he knows where your nerves and trust are right now? Good luck man I know you got this!!

Oh yeah, I am not one to get frustrated and speak on a situation I haven't already tried to remedy. I have been reaching out daily through our channel of communication, he just has not gone to the Telegram app to look at the conversation. So he may be thinking we are on the same page since he hasn't checked back in but originally he said we would refeed until Wednesday, and now I am here still eating 500grams of carbs a day on Friday and spilling over horribly with the almost 15lbs I have gained this week. The look of deep conditioning I had just a few days ago is gone. I just wish I knew the process because right now we are getting farther and farther away from a stage ready physique.

Think this through logically, how you would do it without any outside coaching.

You are fully spilled and bloating.

If he said refeed until Wednesday and it’s Friday, stop refeeding. Once you are spilled over, the body isn’t sucking the extra nutrients in optimally (which is what that term means).

You don’t have anywhere else to put the extra carbs; get back on your previous cut diet. If he contacts you and says otherwise, it’s much easier to pick the cals back up than burn them off if he didn’t intend for you to keep going. This just sounds like a big communication snafu.

Also, keep salt up. You want salt higher than normal before you pull it several days out to dry out. This gets the body used to processing out a lot of salt, so when you pull it you keep shedding more. And if that is not what coach wants, he will still have time to change it in a few days if needed.

Yeah, I totally get what you are saying there. Unfortunately he never gave me any real marching orders that were clear like we will stop refeeding Wednesday. If it were me, we would have started dieting 3-4 weeks earlier so we weren't still trying to clean things up during peak week, and we would have a pretty damn near set in stone plan together for all of this peak week stuff. I don't really have a plan, or clue on what I would do at this point for my peak week because I paid a professional to make sure I didn't have to try to learn how to do it properly myself. So I am honestly less prepared for peak week than I was for my first show doing it myself because I put it all in his hands as I should have. Now, here we are... in a bad situation. Yeah stopping the carbs now makes sense to me too but then I will be so frustrated to find out I wasn't supposed to have and messed something up going the other direction.

Tomorrow is a scheduled check in so at least I know he will see my pics in the morning then we can see if this is what he was expecting, or if he goes into Oh **** we have to make some adjustments right now mode. Worst case if needed, I can just tell him I am okay with an extended fast of a day or two if needed to deplete faster. We will figure it out.

Like you said this sounds like a really unfortunate communication snafu, but it couldn't come at much worse of a time.

As expected, I should have been given a new meal plan Wednesday. He thought he was clear about what to do, but had never given me the meal plan for depleting post refeed so signals got crossed. No worries, he said it is an easy adjustment. We will probably just carb up less and probably have to front load the carbs or something for this carb up. It really is the practice run anyway, so I'm not stressing things too much. I expect things to be much better for the national show. Including being in even better shape. Just having him respond is enough to get my brain out of panic mode. Which is great!

I’m glad to hear his response jived with our expectations that you should no longer be carbing up. When the tank is full, adding more gas just begins to make a mess!

Yeah, 100% we just got our wires crossed a bit and the instructions went from a form to a discussion format which was unclear. We reverted back to a bullet point style set up for all actual instruction so nothing would be missed. Also discussed communication styles a bit. All is good and we have a plan moving forward. It requires some 90 minute cardio sessions but that is okay.

Now onto some even better news, my body really wanted homeostasis badly. Between lowering carbs mid day, a 90 minute cardio / posing session, and a night of the tren sweats I woke up a 12.5lbs lighter this morning! At least I know my kidneys are functioning well to have cleared that much extra fluid so quickly.

Anyway, here are pics from todays check in and I look like I did the Skip Hill reverse peaking process. For those unfamiliar he spills his guys over, then cleans them up for the show by lowering carbs and letting the subcutaneous water be excreted leaving the muscles nice and full. I could be a little tighter but I look pretty damn good!

Here I am at 197.8, down overnight from 209.3 - what a difference a day can make! Things should be even tighter tomorrow.

Wha…what? 12lbs overnight. DAMN!!!…flush that water right out? Way to work Sir!!!
Why thank you Sir, although I can't really take credit for this one. I didn't do anything but cut carbs out after my 2nd meal, and an additional 40 minutes of cardio. Honestly I don't think my body liked having the additional water on it at all. I didn't even feel good with how watered down I was. Once I stopped forcing it to hold onto the water with excess carbs it was happy to release the extra fluids. I also had probably the worst of my tren sweats last night, probably not really any worse over all but since I had so much fluid to sweat out it was a gusher. Bed was soaked every time I got up to pee last night.

Today has been a very lazy day, waiting a little later for the gym because it is so damn hot out and no way I am making it through posing practice, legs, and cardio if I go in before it starts to cool down a bit. I woke about 9, did my check in and had my chicken and green bean shake, waited around and hung out with my wife for a little bit then had another chicken and green bean shake and took a nap. Woke up a few hours later, and am going to eat preworkout meal in about an hour, and then head into the gym around 7:00 hopefully finishing up by 10:00.

One week out, I definitely wish I was in better condition, I am still 3-5lbs over where I wanted to be on stage judging by my current condition. I know peak week can do a lot but removing lower back fat, and the last bit of fat under my pecs isn't going to happen for this show. We already knew I was not going to be completely ready for this show so I have to keep that in mind here and keep expectations reasonable. That doesn't mean I think that I don't have the package that could win this show so much as I have really high standards for what I wanted to present on stage and we aren't quite there yet. If he keeps me at 90 minutes cardio the rest of prep we will likely hit that level of conditioning for nationals. Just going to let him drive. I am also trying to decide if I want to pay for the videos or professional photography at this show or wait for the one I know I will be at my best at. I think probably wait for the 2nd show.

Sorry for the rambling, lots of thoughts going through my head right now. So close, looking so close to how I want, curious who may show up, and how I will do for this one. A win would be awesome for my confidence but who knows who will be showing up and in what condition. Such an exciting, anxious, and electrifying energy coming down to the wire here!!!!

Can’t blame you at all for having fishbowl brain! A lot of thoughts a lot of moving parts, a lot of “unknown”. To your point, this is a dry run for nationals. Your coach is your coach for a reason. You pay him for this reason, he is there to take all the guest work out of this. The paid professional, if you will.
It’s a lot easier for any of us on the outside looking in to tell you to relax and go through the process. Hard telling not knowing what you’re going through.
I’d save the pics in the videography for the second show when you know you will look your best.

Enjoy tonight, session of weights and cardio!

You got this brother!!!

Thanks, yeah I have faith in his knowledge, and experience. I am definitely excited to have him in my corner for this.

I have legs so a little intimidated as one should be when approaching a tough leg session. He said to hit it pretty hard as it will be the last leg training before the show. I have to check in every day until the show now. So I will already have pics, not sure I will post up daily pics unless everyone wants to see the daily transformation over peak week. So let me know if your interested in that, or if it would be an overkill of similar pictures.

Dude, looking GREAT! I'm still in awe of the size you've kept, especially in the arms after that bit of depletion!

I love this... Maybe I'm retarded. I loved walking into a competition knowing the work was already done, a winner more or less already created, and we were just there to find out who it was!

Wow, just checking back in, you re avatar has really changed! Looks like you're still killin' it.
Yes Sir, doing my damndest!

Agree, I want to see those stage shots!
The BIG REVEAL!
Well it looks like we have a consensus. We wait for stage shots. The wife is going to be sitting in the VIP so she should be able to get a good shot or two off.

Thank you Sir! I am pretty sure this is going to be exciting for me. Maybe a little nerve racking but should be good overall.

So peak week is here and we have officially started the water load, drinking 2 gallons a day for the next several days. Seems like I started flushing last night and now things are flowing pretty freely. I am a half gallon in now and pushing to get the water down. Interestingly enough, we are not doing any type of sodium manipulation, just keeping the sodium where it has been all year basically. Not sure why not exactly, might have something to do with the plan to use dyazide the night of weigh ins to strip the last bit of water off while leaving some sodium in there to keep the glycogen and water in the muscles.

Training should be good today but going to be exhausted by the time it is all said and done. Just finished a meeting and about to eat some chicken. WooHoo! I should have brought my nutribullet to work, I really don't even want to try to choke this chicken down by itself... Oh well, only a few more weeks of this, we will keep pushing and finish strong.

If you’re consuming 2 gallons with no extra salt, make no mistake - you are currently flushing electrolytes and drying everything out/dehydrating. Just be aware and realize if you feel something cramping to back off.

And chicken/greenbean shakes sound delicious right now. If I get by the store, I might make some!

That is what I need to be doing more of...adding electrolytes. I drink so much water but forget that detail and cramp out of the blue sometimes.

Looking freaking peeled and huge man! What’s the date for the first show again? I’m assuming coming up this weekend or close to it.

make blended chicken shakes great again!
Haha, they have become a staple, I just can't sit down and have 8 oz chicken by itself first thing in the morning.
Blended Shakes 2024
Yeah Buddy!

Yeah, the additional water without extra salt will definitely skew the sodium for sure. Just used to the salt loading then salt depletion alongside the water load so this is a little less extreme than I expected.

Yep that will do it. Salt that food playa you don't have to do a lot.

Thanks, yes the 10th, right around the corner.

To add to the challenges here, I got sick yesterday, some sort of stomach bug or something. Running low grade fever and had some vomiting. Cardio and training was cancelled, no more cardio or training this week unless I am feeling 100%. We dropped calories to make up for the change and he told me with these new calories we won't need the cardio. Sitting right at 1200 a day right now since I can't do the cardio. Hoping for a full recovery, still feeling a bit rough this morning so I am just going to make it through the day here at work so I don't run through my PTO. I will try to move around up here but honestly I feel pretty rough, and just walking is taking a fugton of my energy stores up. LMAO.

Coach told me he is not worried about this at all other than I need to be well for the contest but he said he is fine with how I look right now going into this show. He is wanting me to go full Open, but I just don't think I want to risk the money there just to see if I could have won. I think I would rather keep my chances increased by competing where I belong, in Masters. He is still hopeful we might get down to 187 for nationals which would be pretty insanely impressive as far as conditioning goes.

man I'm sorry to hear that, but pretty normal to be more susceptible during peak week isn't it? chances are your competitors are feeling pretty shitty this week if they're working half as hard as you. Old school Layne video here from when he was a puppy, but I always remember this part

you're more prone to allergies and sickness in your final week because depletion suppresses Invalid Link Removed

Man, I hope it’s just a 24 hour bug. I just saw the comparison pictures from when you started, and even though you really did start in a good place, the transformation is tremendous, and I agree you can see the improvements in your posing as well. And those last pictures, after the water came off, you are really starting to look shredded. I would be shocked if you didn’t win.

The virus will probably help you look more shredded. You know it sucks, not what you would choose, but we all know it.

Are you keeping Clen in for this show I assume since it’s the dry run? You can’t get as full on it and need to pull it 3-4 days prior for the final show.

yeah, no doubt could be, I am sure having been at 1500 calories ain't helping the immune system any.

Thanks Brother, still feeling rough but it does seem to be improving a little. Nausea comes over me in waves of stomach tightening blech but seems a little less frequent. I have been lucky, my team lead knows I am low on PTO and told me to just go lay down in the wellness room for a while when I wasn't feeling good. Said if we got busy and he needs me he will come get me. So I rested for about an hour applying pressure to my stomach which makes it feel a little better.

Yeah this is kind of what I expected. The hardest thing right now is managing to get my water in while feeling so nauseas. I am a bit behind working on catching up now. I have over a half gallon left in the gallon I need to finish before I leave work today. So I am going to have to step that up.

We had not discussed pulling Clen for this show so I don't think so. I will ask him about that before we get into peak week for Nationals. I wasn't actually aware of that so great info!

So the only actual activity I have planned for today is a posing session this evening. We have to run over the timing for my poses, with the music. I have the routine memorized so it is just a matter of timing it to the music and making it look better. Then posing will likely be the source of exercise for the rest of the week. I will try to run through the routine with music about 20 times before the show. I think that should get me pretty well timed and consistent. Then only a bad case of nerves could mess me up up there.

Unless he changes it tonight it will be Hans Zimmer's TIME from the Inception Soundtrack. We will start it at 1 minute 5 seconds into the song and stop it at 2 minutes 5 seconds.

That’s should work out nice. Nothing too overbearing that is gonna frighten a judge. Kinda builds a bit but smoothly.

“Smack My B!tch Up” by Prodigy would not be the way to go.

Agreed, and well I spoke too soon. Just projectile vomited all over the place in our bathroom stall. Puked all over my shirt and jeans, my shoes, it went everywhere but into the toilet. Trying to keep the water down is just impossible. No saving PTO now, I am soiled with puke so I have to go home.

My buddy I used to work out with back in the 90s, when he did his first local show, picked “I’m Too Sexy” by Right Said Fred😂
As much jabbing and picking on from all of us at the gym, he showed us and made it work and won.

awesome track choice, it immediately reminded me of some of the motivational tracks I've had on repeat in the past.

**** man I'm sorry, rest up!!
I haven't made a mess like that since Def Leppard circa 2012 but at least mine was self inflicted.. rooting for you !!!

Man, I hate that.,..puking is no fun, but hopefully you got some of the bug out that’s making you sick.

Be well brother. I don’t know if your coach would want this but pedialyte might help w electrolytes

Sorry man. Take some Pepto if you need to calm things down and get a little extra salt in your water (and rest).

Diesel Power wouldn’t be a bad jam…💪🤪🤘

Coach told me to rest and not force the water to the point of puking just get as much as I can in until I can get more in. I am just going to stay home from work tomorrow and focus on resting and recovering. Hopefully I will have a good day and not feel bad. About to do this posing session here in 10 minutes, and gonna have to tell him I can't really push the flexing because getting worked up is making me nauseous. No big deal these are just challenges, and this is the show to qualify so as long as I compete I succeed. I already look good enough not to embarrass myself so I am not worried about it at all. I just need to be well enough to step on stage.

Exactly, great way to look at it…..you win either way, and stressing won’t help one bit, so being chilled, not worrying, and resting up is the best thing for you.💪

Thanks, finally feeling better and judging by how much better, I think I was sick for a while and just thought it was exhaustion from low calories. The dragging tiredness and heaviness of body parts is gone. Getting out of bed wasn't a fight, I even had some decent energy during my posing practice. It is almost night and day from how I have been feeling that last week. Almost wonder if I didn't have a touch of COVID with how lethargic I was over the course of the week. I pretty much slept or tried to any time I wasn't working or training.

Well, we are 2 days out and tomorrow I need to be under 198, I was there yesterday but woke up a bit waterlogged at 202.4lbs. I really need to get that down to 198, I do not have the size to be in there with the heavyweights. Again, oh well if that is what I have to do to get me qualified for Nationals then that is what we do but hoping to see another whoosh and be back under 198 in the morning. I would much rather be at the top of the weight class than the bottom.

Glad you are feeling better! I think you might be right on the Covid, my parents got something on there trip to Montana last month they where dragging ass for 3 weeks just no energy to do much and when they did they just got exhausted. No other symptoms other than that.

Right, I was starting to wonder how I was going to manage the last 3 weeks if I was going to feel that bad. Thank goodness I have a bit more energy now. Not saying I am rip roaring and raring to go but noticeably more energy than the horrible lethargy I was experiencing.

A virus can definitely zap all your energy that’s for sure. Glad you’re better and able to go into the competition feeling a little more energetic. Hopefully dropping those last couple of pounds will be smooth.

Hell yeah! Turn it up!!!

I have such crazy respect for how much mass you have held. It's mind blowing to me sometimes how you are stitting about 8lbs heavier than me, but probably 8%+ leaner than me and like an inch shorter I think we decided? Just a testament to a lifetime of busting your ass and building the machine. Gotta love it.

Thanks and yeah right at about an inch less than you. I am 5'7 3/4" and you said you are 5;9 right?

tough question. about 5'9" and a half inch. high school was 5'10". in my 20s they documented loss of height and found that burst disc under my L5. I've always wondered if thats why I struggle even when quite lean to get the very lowest spare tire area tightened up.

playing devils advocate though I also wonder if I was truly 5'10" in high school and shrunk an inch or if I was never 5'10" lol.

either way yeah I think the extra lean mass weight you hold is incredible. lb per lb inch per inch if we were the same height you'd be outweighing me by at least 20-30lbs at equal bodyfat levels I'd think!
